They say opposites attract, but in this case, they might just combust . . .HEATHERHermosa Beach seems to be the place for throwing together unlikely opposites. My rooster Rowdy and his new crush, Pixie the goat. The obnoxiously cocky cowboy from Texas and me . . . But unlike Rowdy and Pixie, there’s no way I’m going to fall for David Strickland.Nope. Never gonna happen. I could never be with a man … Never gonna happen. I could never be with a man so diametrically opposed to everything I believe . . . no matter how hot he is.
DAVID
There couldn’t be two people more different than me and the beautiful little tree hugger and rooster rescuer Heather.
We can’t agree on anything, except to disagree. Sometimes more heatedly than other times. And believe me, things are starting to get hot between us, in more ways than one.
She’s the last thing I expected to find at an animal shelter in California. But now that I found her, I have no intention of letting her go.
Now I just have to convince her of that plan.

Reading Mother Clucker by Cat Johnson was just what I needed! 5 Stars !
This story was just adorable! Any story that can incorporate cute animals in to it is a win for me! Plus, we get the story of David and Heather; definite opposites with immediate attraction. The best part, though, is the fact that they were brought together by a stray rooster, that Heather found on the side of the road and names Rowdy .
Best line from ANY book I’ve ever read…..’A man and a cock walk into a shelter…’. Does it get any funnier??
I can’t say enough about Mother Clucker. It had me laughing aloud and drawn in to the romance from page one. It was a quick and easy read that I thoroughly enjoyed. I 100% recommend reading this book immediately.

This was an entertaining and delicious read! Both the well written characters and impressive storyline kept me engrossed. A lot of funny moments and sexy heat made for quick reading.
Heather and David liked to poke at each other for fun, but their school yard antics underplayed a real emotional connection. False starts seemed to be everywhere for these two, and even when they had it figured out, they didn’t. They luckily had friends, and a rooster, in common, to thwart and help, as they figured things out. A lot of fun and a hay load of chemistry!
I enjoyed this one from beginning to end. Absolutely loved the chicken. Because after all that is what brings these two together. Heather first runs into David at a gas station , he is driving a huge truck she is driving a little car. She insults his truck and drives away. Heather is in town to house sit. She ends up finding a chicken. She takes it to the local animal shelter where she ends up running into David again. He takes the chicken out to his buddies out where he will be able to be happy. These two don’t immediately hit it off. But that is what makes this storyline freaking amazing. Watching these two get together was not only funny during some parts but melted the heart. I absolutely loved this storyline and Heather and David. This was a great addition to this series. Cat Johnson is a great writer and this book shows that off.
When you pair a rooster and a goat together, excitement is about to ensue!
This book is a definite must-read, especially if you are a fan of the Cocky World series, originally started by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. Cat Johnson was a new to me author, but if the rest of her books are anything like this one, I may have found my next new author to read!
Pair a Cali Girl and a Texan Farmer and you somehow get a fabulous opposites attract novel that will have you turning the page quickly to continue reading the story, cursing when you see “the end” and loving the heck out of these two characters who bring life to their words and make this blogger one happy girl.
A long long time ago I read a couple of books by Cat Johnson that just weren’t my cup of tea. Her style of writing just didn’t do it for me, so I never paid much attention to what she was publishing after that. Um ………. why??? Aside from not liking the title of this book very much (but it does fit the story perfectly LOL), it was fantastic. It read nothing like I remember her books to be! Goes to show you, not only do authors grow but so do we as readers and what once was not to our liking could very well be our liking today ….
I really enjoyed this quirky little read! You guys … there’s a rooster and I’m pretty sure I love him more than our leads! Lol Just kidding, I love them all! This story went by quick for me. It was so entertaining from the very beginning and it did not let up until the very end! Low on angst and high on rom-com, this is one I would highly recommend! You will just smile through the entire thing, promise!
Mother Clucker is Cat Johnson’s contribution in the Cocky Hero Club and I really enjoyed it, it was a cute story revolving around David and Heather…and a rooster named Rowdy. The banter between them is funny!! I am for sure recommending this book, and am sure you will enjoy it as much as I did!!
I don’t know what I loved more about this, Rowdy and Pixie or Heather and David. Everything had me laughing and the banter and back and forth between them had me going from laughter to swooning. There couldn’t be a better example of opposites attracting but for some reason, it worked for them. You won’t be able to put this down.
Mother Clucker by Cat Johnson is the story of David and Heather. This book is a part of the Cocky Hero Club, but it can be a standalone book. Heather is a PR consultant who is house sitting in California for one of her well off bosses. David is a true Texan who has come to California for business along with vising his friend. Heather and David first meeting isn’t so great when they both have a head butting contest. Fate steps in and they end up meeting again which David already knows that he isn’t letting this women go now that he found something he didn’t even knew he wanted. Heather has to work through some issue of prejudgement with David. Of course Rowdy the Rooster has his part in this book and does some scene stealing. This was a fun, hot read and cute for us animal lovers!
“Mother Clucker” perfectly compliments Cocky Bastard by Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland. David Strickland was a great fit for the Cocky Hero Club. The story was funny, light hearted and I loved the witty banter between David and Heather. Their verbal sparring was hilarious, and was the perfect backdrop for their rocky romantic connection. Heather had a sassy attitude which appealed to David, and he was serious and fun loving, which she found very attractive. They were both animal lovers and more than happy to help out at the animal shelter. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the friendship blossom between Pixy the goat and Heather’s rooster, Rowdy. Heather and David had more in common then they thought, despite the fact that she hated his giant truck and he made fun of her mini hybrid. I found Heather to be very witty and smart and even though she misjudged David at first, the more time she spent with him, the harder it would be to say goodbye. She was blinded by his sexy muscles, deep voice and cute accent. David thought she was beautiful, sassy and the kind of woman he could never forget. They were an extremely likeable and entertaining couple who brought a smile to my face for the first time in a very long time.
This book was so cute. Heather finds a rooster, Rowdy who is as much of a main character as Heather and David in this story. And everything including Rowdy had me laughing. Heather and David have great chemistry and even though Heather didn’t like David for the first half of the book David was all about Heather and enjoyed ruffling her feathers just for a reaction.
I enjoyed following along this story and how Heather and David come together after so much animosity from Heather in the first half of the book because of how she perceived David to them navigating being together with David in Texas and Heather in California. I didn’t want to put this book down and kept me smiling the whole time.
Mother Clucker takes us into the Cocky Hero World of The original Cocky Bastard and this story had me enamored right from the start. From the sass to the witty remarks David and Heather will have you crowing with laughter. The banter, chemistry and a rooster kept me entertained and thoroughly happy throughout this story. As these two give in to the attraction and flirting will miscommunication, phone chargers and distance finally be too much for them to overcome. A story that even though having a few tense and unsure moments, will leave you with a huge smile on your face as Rowdy and Pixie just might steal the show. This addition to the cocky hero club is one that has just the right amount of passion, steam, drama and amusement to leave you completely and utterly in love.
