They say opposites attract, but in this case, they might just combust . . .HEATHERHermosa Beach seems to be the place for throwing together unlikely opposites. My rooster Rowdy and his new crush, Pixie the goat. The obnoxiously cocky cowboy from Texas and me . . . But unlike Rowdy and Pixie, there’s no way I’m going to fall for David Strickland.Nope. Never gonna happen. I could never be with a man … Never gonna happen. I could never be with a man so diametrically opposed to everything I believe . . . no matter how hot he is.
DAVID
There couldn’t be two people more different than me and the beautiful little tree hugger and rooster rescuer Heather.
We can’t agree on anything, except to disagree. Sometimes more heatedly than other times. And believe me, things are starting to get hot between us, in more ways than one.
She’s the last thing I expected to find at an animal shelter in California. But now that I found her, I have no intention of letting her go.
Now I just have to convince her of that plan.

Heather and David are simply hysterical together. Mother Clucker is a great read, and a fantastic listen narrated by Sebastian York and Muffy Newtown.
I really enjoyed the insta-hate and the the eventual acceptance of each other. Heather had some pretty big misconceptions to get past to see the real David, but once she did, she fell in love with the gruff cowboy. And she used her marketing expertise to help him put his company’s tainted past behind him.
I really enjoyed this installment in the Cocky Hero club, and I’m looking forward to reading, and listening, to more of them!
Rom-coms are my favorite read, I love romance and comedy and when they are mixed together it’s the best. Mother Clucker did not disappoint. I enjoyed the love/hate relationship between David and Heather. No matter how much they fight the sparks still fly. I enjoy Pixie and all the craziness that goes on on the farm.
Sassy, teasing and charming
Mother Clucker: A Hero Club Novel by Cat Johnson is a very well written romantic comedy. Quite simply, the characters, the plot and setting is just fantastic and it absolutely works. David and Heather are adorable and I fell in love with them immediately. The plot is engaging and creates opportunities that keep David and Heather interacting. It was enthralling how their chemistry becomes all encompassing.
Overall, a sassy, teasing, sweet and charming read that will have your heart melting as much as heat things up to combusting while providing a HEA too.
4 1/2 out of 5 stars
This is the first book for me from this author, but I really enjoyed it. It’s part of the Cocky Hero Club, but read amazing as a stand alone….with a glimpse of one of my favorite cocky heroes – Chance (from Cocky Bastard) and his pet goat Pixy.
Heather and David were the perfect couple. They were antagonists and really had nothing in common in the beginning, but as they got to know each other, they found the perfect common ground and their relationship bloomed from there.
The story moved at a realistic pace making me yearn for things to go faster and yet loving the slow pace they were getting to know each other at. I can’t think of a passage of this story I didn’t like and I”m so thankful for the chance to get to know a new author through a book series!

I can say with a giggle lingering in the air that Mother Clucker is a must read. The abusrd and yet absolutely believable hilarity is a gold mine. Cat Johnson definitely had fun writing this book!
I had never even heard of Ms. Johnson prior to this book. I saw the title and burst out laughing. From then on, I knew it was going to be fun. Let’s just say Mother Clucker has it all.
Sexy, jean wearing cowboys. Everyone’s favorite Aussie goat lover. A rowdy rooster. Opposites attract with the Cali girl and Texan farmer. The best part though…the sass. These two are out to get each other. From the first meet, they can’t seem to watch their mouths. It only gets better!
I’m still giggling as I type this. Cat Johnson, I look forward to more of your novels. I hope they are all this much fun!
This is the first book that I’ve read by this author and I really didn’t know what to expect, I enjoyed this book. This book is a real opposites attract and is a Rom Com romance.
Heather and David are so different, they don’t get along and there banter is non stop hilarious.
David wasn’t looking for anything like what he found in Heather and now he has found her he isn’t going to let her go.
David is so different from what Heather wants and his views are different but inside she is also determined not to fall for a cocky man.
This two are brought together by the animals and it’s so funny to read. The characters we’re so great that the author did a fantastic job writing them that I couldn’t get enough. They don’t seem to get along on anything but the connection between them both and the back and forth is so strong that the heat gets hotter between them.
I always love books that have epilogue as I feel like it always adds that something extra special to the story. This author has written this book great and I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
This book is another great addition in the Cocky Hero Club Series and I cant wait to read the next installment.
Thank you to the author and publishers for allowing me to read an early copy of this book.
ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
This book is expected to be released 17th May 2020
A combustible, lust-at-first-sight, opposites attract romance.
Heather is the type of person who is worried about leaving her carbon footprint behind, so when the large, gas-guzzling truck pulls up behind her at the gas station she can’t help the dissatisfied look that crosses her face. She didn’t think she’d see that truck again, but when she rescues a rooster from the beach she brings it to a chicken farm and lo and behold that same truck is there.
Let the fireworks begin.
David is just getting his feed company out of a huge scandal and he’s currently visiting his local suppliers to make sure things are running smoothly. While visiting one of the local farms, he runs into Heather who happens to drop off a rooster. Thankfully she doesn’t know about his company or she may never have dropped off the cocky bird, but he’s just thankful she did since it allows him time to get to know her and her spitfire personality.
Personally, I had a hard time connecting with the characters. Their attraction or hate-hate of one another didn’t sizzle for me like I was hoping. I loved the animal interactions and the premise in general, but overall their story didn’t pop for me.
Mother Clucker references characters in Cocky Bastard by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward, but you don’t have to have read it to enjoy this story. This is a complete standalone.
How can you not love a story with a rooster and his friend a goat; a great story; funny supporting cast? David and Heather are opposites, funny and loving together. I loved this quick, fun and hot read!
Cat Johnson based her Mother Clucker on Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward’s Cocky Bastard. Only she used her own character as the MCs.
This was my first by Johnson, and I know it won’t be the last as I loved this story. This was such a fun read that I was sad when it ended. It’s also one I now own with kindle and audible. It’s one my lousy day go-to list. I love how Johnson did with the world-building and brought in Vi and Penelope’s characters. She has done a really perfect job.
Heather and David butt heads from their first meeting. Then fate steps in, and their adventure begins. Can I just say I want Rowdy the Rooster? This story was steamy and hilarious, and just everything I had hoped for with a name like Mother Clucker. If you pick this one up, trust you won’t be disappointed.
If you loved Vi and Penelope’s Cocky Bastard, you’re going to love Cat Johnson’s, Mother Clucker!
This is another great addition to the Cocky Hero Club! It was a fun, romantic read that I didn’t want to put down. The characters are well written and the story flowed seamlessly. The banter between Heather and David was witty and very entertaining. Definitely a book to recommend.
An entertaining story set in the Cocky Hero World, we get Heather and David, true opposites who shouldn’t work, yet somehow they do. You know, once given the chance and Heather works through the bias she already has towards David after their initial not so meet cute. Loved the insertion of chicken language throughout, and it goes without saying (but I’m saying it anyway), both Rowdy and Pixy steal any scene they’re featured in.
I must admit, the blurb did not draw me in. BUT, I have loved everything I’ve read, written by Author Cat Johnson, so I finally cracked open “Mother Clucker” that had been on my kindle app for days. And I was so glad I did! The meeting and sparing of David and Heather had me chuckling! From there a delightful story unfolded. I enjoyed the characters, even the animals and the friendships that grew!
Aaah I loved this story, animals just give a tale icing on the tip. Rowdy was the main character from the start, this Rooster knew how to.rule the roost and the humans around him. This was a match made in heaven for all involved not just the two main characters, each had strengths and weaknesses that blended well with what the others needed, it was a win, win. I liked that this wasn’t to heavy, even the angsty parts were more light hearted, there wasn’t really a lot in the way of drama so it was relaxing and a fairly chilled read. Well written with a fast pace, something to just sink into and enjoy.

That was adorable!
A girl house-sitting for one of her bosses finds a rooster on the beach and rescues him.
A pet-food-making chicken farmer from Texas takes him off her hands.
Not to turn him into dog food, but to live happily ever after on his buddy’s farm!
That’s our hilarious start to this great romance!
I just adored reading this.
Heather and David first meet and argue-flirt at a gas station and then they meet again at the animal shelter. Where we also meet our favorite fictional goat again. Pixie from Cocky Bastard! LOL!
From there it’s more flirting and arguing and Heather helping David with marketing for his farm and then there’s reality televison … and so much more.
Just read it. I loved it!
Such a sweet and sexy and funny and beautiful romance!
I wouldn’t mind finding this on Netflix one day soon!
MOTHER CLUCKER was such an adorable & funny chicken-farmer-meets-Hollywood-ish love story! Run to your nearest amazon for your own David – this one is MINE!
Wow, what a story. This made me laugh throughout the book. I loved how everyone interacted and didn’t mind saying what they wanted. I really enjoyed this story.
I loved David and Heather together, they might argue a lot but its how they met and enjoy. They bonded over Rowdy and it made me laugh.
Cat Johnson did amazing job on this book. She knew how to make you laugh.
My first stop on the Hero Club
Why do men have to be so ooooooo?
Anyway. I enjoyed getting to know a Texas rancher working to rebuild his family business name and product line. I loved meeting a chicken/rooster loving strong minded woman. This was fun, light and very easy to get through with some interesting moments. This was a quickie rom-com and I enjoyed it all.
Never dull when you have Sebastian York leading the charge. Thank you to both him and Muffy Newtown.
Heather and David
One rooster ….
This book was such an amazing, funny and sexy read
Well done, it was emotional, bantering funny, and it kept me going…
The writing is so easy to read, and I love how some characters are coming back from one of the other cocky hero club reads .
I really really loved it.
It’s an adult romance hot smutty read

Another great, funny addition to the Cocky Hero Club series.
Whilst Heather’s house sitting she comes across a rooster, who she names Rowdy, it was running toward the beach and she didn’t want anything to happen to it so she manages to catch it then take it to along to a shelter, it’s there where she ends up seeing David again, the man she’d earlier ran into when he was filling up his vehicle at the gas station. The pair shared an intense chemistry with David really knowing how to push Heather’s buttons in the best way possible.
Mother Clucker’s storyline tells us readers a tale of how opposites attract, it’s one book you won’t want to put down once you’ve start reading so be prepared.

This is my first read by Cat Johnson and I loved it! The banter between Heather and David was funny and the chemistry between the two of them are off the charts! Now, add in Rowdy the rescued rooster that has a way with ladies. I was really entertained with this addition to the Cocky Hero Club series. I loved everything about it; seeing Aubrey, Chance and Pixy (from one of my favorite books Cocky Bastard), the side characters Drew and Lucy, the main characters Heather, David, and Rowdy. Cat wrote a fantastic romance that had me laughing and swooning the entire time. I will be checking out more of Cat’s books to read soon.

I purchased a copy of the steamy novel Mother Clucker: A Cocky Hero Club Novel by Cat Johnson and this review was given freely.
A modern day feel good story and an adversarial to more, instant attraction, opposites attract romance with a touch of irony and humor.
Environmentally conscious California New Millennia Media Productions public relations assistant Heather Wilson finds herself volunteered to house sit her boss’s house at Hermosa Beach, California where she rescues Rowdy chicken off the beach. Multiple chance meetings with cocky Texas cowboy chicken farmer and new CEO of Strickland Feed Corporation, David Strickland lead to a fast moving complex and steamy story of animal play dates, a new TV show, improved corporate image, some family drama, good friends and a happy heartwarming ending.
Ties in well with the SEALs and Coronada based series.
