He’s a powerful billionaire CEO who built the family business into an empire. The money doesn’t matter to him, but the company is his life. And then his eccentric mother wills it all to her tiny dog.I’m Vicky, the dog whisperer. (Not really, but that’s what my elderly neighbor always says.) When she dies, she surprises everybody by leaving a corporation worth billions to her dog, Smuckers. With … to her dog, Smuckers. With me as his spokesperson.
Suddenly I go from running my Etsy store to sitting in an elegant Wall Street boardroom with Smuckers in my lap. And my neighbor’s son, Henry Locke, aka New York’s most eligible bachelor, glaring across the table at me.
Rumor has it Henry’s a business genius who’s as talented in the bedroom as he is in the boardroom. Sure, he’s gorgeous. Sex-in-a-seven-thousand dollar suit. But…
He’s arrogant and infuriating.
He refuses to listen to me when I insist I didn’t con his mother.
He thinks he can bully me, buy me off, control me, even seduce me.
Henry may have the women of Manhattan eating out of the palm of his hand, but I’m so over entitled rich guys who think they own the world.
No way will his wicked smile be charming ME out of my panties.
His wicked…devastating…impossible-to-resist smile.
Oh well, who needs panties anyway?

A fun lighthearted read with fears and money thrown in.
Loved this book
Really well written.
couldn’t put it down, can’t wait to read book 2
I don’t normally like billionaire romances. There. I’ve said it. I’m sorry if that offends all the Christian Grey fans out there, but I can’t help it. I think there are just entirely too many unrealistically gorgeous, young billionaire heroes in romance land. Let’s face it–real life super rich dudes aren’t usually hot. Like, at all. (Sorry Bezos and Zuckerberg and Gates. It’s nothing personal.) But, while I don’t normally go for billionaire heroes, I DO love an enemies-to-lovers romance, and I DO love Annika Martin. So when I got the BookBub email saying this one was free, I downloaded right away. And if I could figure out who was responsible at BookBub for sending me that email, I would kiss that person right now. (Not with tongue or anything, but still, right on the mouth. I’m that grateful.)
First of all, the premise is hilarious. I mean, what kind of nut-job would leave a billionaire dollar company to a dog and expect the dog to run the board? But after seeing a woman carrying a Chihuahua in a newborn sling into my son’s taekwondo class the other day, I started thinking maybe it wasn’t so ridiculous after all. But still, as a rom com premise, it’s hilarious and original and I appreciated the hell out of it.
Vicky is the kind of rom-com heroine other rom-com heroines should aspire to be. She’s hard-working, kind, smart, and has overcome a fairly horrific past with relatively few scars to show for it. Sure, she has moments of uncertainty and self-doubt, but she overcomes them and perseveres. She also refuses to let anyone bully her, which makes her rom-com role model material, in my not-so-humble opinion.
Henry starts off as a bit of an ass. He’s rude and arrogant and not afraid to throw his name and power around to get what he wants. But I never really held it against him because I understood where he was coming from. He’d grown up with a crappy mother who left a company he’d devoted his life to to her DOG. He had every reason to be angry and to not trust Vicky. But when he did start to trust her, he did a spectacular and somehow still totally realistic 180, and let Vicky (and me as a reader), see that he really was a great guy. Solid book boyfriend material. He was just angry and misunderstood and passionate about protecting a company he loved. Henry, like Vicky, was totally relatable.
There are parts of the book that are laugh-out-loud hilarious, but there are plenty of serious, heartfelt moments, too. This is one of a precious few rom-coms that had the power to hit me in the feels a time or two. I really felt for Vicky and Henry, and it might have even gotten a little dusty in my reading room when these two finally found their happily ever after. (It was DUSTY, I tell you, because I DO NOT CRY.)
The sexual tension between Henry and Vicky was palpable, and the sex scenes were off-the-charts hot. (Henry is a bit of a sexy dirty-talker and definitely takes charge in the bedroom, but not in a bondage-y, gross way. It’s hot. Trust me. Ahem.)
Smuckers the dog was adorable, too. In my opinion, all authors should write an adorable dog or two into their stories. What can it hurt?
All in all, I’m super excited I got the book for free, but honestly, I wouldn’t have minded paying full price for it one little bit. It was an awesome read from an author I love. In fact, I don’t know why you’re still reading this review. Just go buy the book!
Good character development and entertaining story!
It was just okay
every other word is a 4 letter word No need for the language
did nothing for the story. Will never read nor recommend this author
Who would leave a big business to a dog? Bernadette. That’s who.
She manages to upset her estranged son and her family. Instead she puts Smuckers into the care of the “dog whisperer” artist who proceeds to sit on the Board of Directors with 51% voting power (after consulting, of course, with Smuckers). There are secrets and regrets but hang in there. It is worth the read!
Terrible book. Language is awful! I would not recommend this to anyone.
Honestly, this was a good story line. However, the author filled pages and pages with nothing more than sexual activity. I liked the plot of the story. Not the repetitive details of them having sex. So I skipped lots of these pages to continue on with the actual story.
I loved this book. It was the first one I’ve read by this author it was quirky and a fantastic read. I enjoyed every minute of it from the beginning to the end. I liked the tension and the varying methods the hero and heroine employed to try to get the other to understand their side. It was a great book I highly recommend it.
This was a quick, cute read with good characters. I loved the snarkiness!
Enjoyed the read
This was a book with great characters and the author keeps things humorous and interesting the whole way. She is very good with realistic life issues and how she resolves them. She is my new favorite author!
Somehow, I just love these egotistical macho men who think they are all that! But not in real life -go figure. Henry is CEO of his company, and not exactly close to his mother who owns 51% of the company. She has a dog she loves more than anything and mistakenly thinks that Vicki is a dog whisperer and can read Smuckers mind. The mother dies and leaves the dog the company with Vicki as the Guardian of the dog, and hence the 51% of Henry’s company. Henry is beyond himself that his mother left the company to her dog and the “swindler” dog whisperer. He is out to get her and prove she is a nutcase but doesn’t count on having chemistry with Vicki that he can’t deny. The more time he spends with her the more he falls in love with her and can’t ignore the chemistry. She has a past too that she doesn’t want him to know about so she’s not happy having such control over a company. She likes flying under the radar and can’t now. The banter between the two is funny and I really enjoyed the book. I really wanted to see how it ended so I stayed up way too late reading. It was a fun read.
This is a sweet love story. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book. I would highly recommend reading this book.
A standalone read with a HEA. A young woman lives in an apartment with her young sister. An older woman and her dog have the apartment across the hall. The woman gets it in her head that Vicky can read the dog’s mind. She makes Vicky promise that when she dies she will take and care for the dog. She does
When the lady passes, they read the will and she has left 51% of her estate to Smuckers with Vicky as his caretaker. She owns the largest company in New York. Needless to say, the son and all the relatives are not happy but have to abide by the will. They set out to destroy Vicky. This is a funny romantic love story. Everybody wins in the end,. Fun read and I definitely recommend it.
Great!
Story was intersting and clever. What I did not like was the explicit sex scenes. I do not understand the need for this when you have a clever decent story. If not for that I would have given it more stars.
