Jake Lassiter has a dangerous conflict of interest. He’s sleeping with Nicky Florio’s wife… and defending the mob-connected millionaire in court. Florio has hatched a scheme deep in the Florida Everglades that oozes corruption, blood, and money. One false move, and Jake will be gator bait.
Paul Levine is one of my favorite authors and he never disappoints!
Love the author but not his best
Lassiter is always a fun read.
A story of greed and sex both of which nearly kill our protagonist. He can’t shake himself from the married women who uses him while pulling him towards his certain death.
Kept you interested. Good characters. Did not suspect the ending!
Former bad Boy football player Jake Lassiter is in court defending mobster Nicky Florio . He has a little conflict of interest seeing that he’s sleeping with an old girl friend who is now Florio’s wife. The mobster is busy with a couple of corpses one of which showed up in is wine cellar and a huge scheme he’s working on deep in the Ever Glades. …
I like this main character. Sort of formulaic, but…
Great, original characters. There’s something about an ex-pro-football lineman for the Dolphins who turned to law after a not-so spectacular sports career. His best friend is a medical examiner older than dirt. Great ambience in descriptions of Miami off the regular tourist beat.
The book, Mortal Sin, is named well. Tried to get through it but the language and violence finally made me give it up. I don’t like reading the “F” word constantly. Authors should have a better command of the English language to characterize the subjects. The violence becomes VERY graphic. That is not enjoyable for me.
Cross this author …
Love Granny
Lots of fun, thugs, law bending and Jake being a slut. Too bad about the sex, not what I wanna read. But Charlie and Granny make me laugh.
One of my favorite authors.
I enjoy the main character – Jake
Had its high and lows, at some points was ready to put it aside, but glad I stayed with it. Over all a good book.
It is a slow read.
Set in 1990’s Miami and Everglades, this is a lawyer crime drama. A morally conflicted ex-NFL linebacker turned attorney struggles with his conscience and a murderous developer. The book displays solid writing, plenty of action, good sense of place, interesting characters. It kept my interest throughout.
4 stars
I like the entire Lassiter series.
I really enjoyed this book look forward to more Jake.
I couldn’t get past the wife mob character. Too cheesy and stereotypical.
The legal scenes were fairly realistic
