No one lays open the heart and soul quite like New York Times bestselling author Mia Sheridan in this heart-wrenching love story about destiny, second chances, and the healing power of love set in the beautiful countryside in France. Named on of the “Best Romance Books of 2018” by BookBub! The moment she met Callen Hayes, eleven-year-old Jessica Creswell knew he was a broken prince. Her … Creswell knew he was a broken prince. Her prince. They became each other’’s refuge, a safe and magical place far from their troubled lives. Until the day Callen kissed her — Jessica’’s first real, dreamy kiss — and then disappeared from her life without a word.
Years later, everyone knows who Callen Hayes is. Famous composer. Infamous bad boy. What no one knows is that Callen’’s music is now locked deep inside, trapped behind his own inner demons. It’’s only when he withdraws to France to drink his way through the darkness that Callen stumbles into the one person who makes the music return. Jessica. His Jessie. And she still tastes of fresh, sweet innocence . . . even as she sets his blood on fire.
But they don’‘t belong in each other’’s worlds anymore. There are too many mistakes. Too many secrets. Too many lies. All they have is that instinctive longing, that need—and something that looks dangerously like love.

I think I was one of the first people to read MORE THAN WORDS and it quickly became one of my favorite Mia Sheridan novels. The setting is stunning andthe characters gripped me from the start. There’s a dual love story going on and both captivated me. A must read.
I read Archers Voice and titled it “the most beautiful first kiss ever”…
I read Leo and several others are also still on my reading list – so how could I not jump at the chance to review the latest book from Mia Sheridan ~ when already the first glimpse of the Blurb promised so much.
“More Than Words” is just like its title ~ this book is more than its words. And just like other books before from this author it left me speechless. So I am honestly sitting here staring at my blank review sheet and wonder how much I should tell other readers about this book.
I feel every tiny bit would be too much.
Let me at least tell you this. Like in previous books the author has a magical way to bring the leading characters to your heart. They sneak in before you even realize it happened.
Callen and Jessica are beautifully written – inside and out
In addition to these beautiful leads the author not only creates well developed secondary characters, but also a wonderful setting in which the story takes place.
I am well acquainted with the setting that the author choose as I have good friends in that country / area that I visit every year. Especially in the city that is named after the person that is essential in this book (cryptic much – sorry – spoilers) … So I found myself often sitting on a bench right in the middle of that city staring at a statue of that person and thinking about reasons and choices. I was about to attach some of my own pictures of places and that statue to this review but then I thought about spoilers and refrained from it.
Maybe it is due to my knowledge of this place but I really felt the setting. This area can be magical I have seen places there that seem to be timeless , they will capture the visitors and you will find them in your dreams. I KNEW what the author described about the characters feelings when they were there – so it felt real– including the tiniest rain drop – so very real.
I hope that other readers will fall in love with these characters, their story and the stetting as much as I did.
More than Words Mia Sheridan is the story of Callen Hayes and Jessica Creswell.
Callen and Jessica meet when they were young kids going through harsh times. They became friends and made their own magical dreams at the time. But later Callen gave her a first kiss but then left her. Callen became somewhat famous but for him he ended up personally drinking and sleeping with women to forget the pain he was living with. By chance they meet again, Jessica still has stars and somewhat innocent dreams with life even though she too knows hardships.
This was a very emotional read with their story line but overall I enjoyed their story.
Five musical stars! There is music, hope, redemption and a great love story between two souls destined to be one. I can’t get over this book!
How many times have you dream of your Prince Charming or your Knight in Shining Armour? How many times have you pray for him to come and protect you? Life is good but is better when you have a prince to smooth your fears. Wow! I am really inspired after reading the latest release of Mia Sheridan.
More than Words is a beautiful masterpiece that shines with the intensity of millions stars. It is life. It is hope. It is faith. It is redemption. It is trust. It is love. It is everything and more.
There is something magical in Mia’s writing that has me over the moon, dreaming and falling in love with each story and each character she creates. They are real and too touchy.
This time she gifted us a broken and sinful Prince and a strong and pure heroine. Two souls destined to save each other at the right time. Two hearts beating at the same rhythm. Jessica and Callen’s paths were intertwined since the beginning. Their childhood was awfully destroyed. Their friendship saves them. Their dreams and creativity smoothed their pain but life happens and they were separated although fate brings them back together.
Their story taught me to be strong and have faith, to cherish every moment like the last one, to have hope in the darkest moments and never give up, to dream and believe in myself and to love unconditionally.
The book is set in one of the most beautiful countries, France, and the story line is wonderful addictive.
As the internationalist I am, I highly enjoyed the reference to Jeanne d’Arc and all the history behind the pages of the manuscript Jessica translated. I felt positively identified with Jessica because I love history as much as she does. It fascinated me. History is the study of past events and it had a different meaning depending on who tells it. To transfer all the knowledge about something or someone is as important as any other work. To see a whole past events connected through the eyes of the historians and people who lived in a specific time is incredible worthy. Mia did an excellent job and researching.
More than Words is a spiritual journey of discovery, redemption and love. It is the most wonderful book I ever read. It was like every good and beautiful thing in the world came together all at once.
I love every single thing about this book. The plot is refreshing and brilliantly developed. It has the right amount of all things French, history, passion, music and love. Those elements make it a perfect read for readers who love real romance.
Callen has ruined me for the following book boyfriends I am sure I will read about. He believed he wasn’t worth. My heart broke every time he was tormented by the memory of his father. But fortunately he was saved by an innocent and beautiful angel. He partied hard to numb his pain and darkness. He is an imperfectly perfect fallen angel. Let him tempt you with his music and tormented soul.
I absolutely recommend you this book. It is an overwhelming story that will warm your heart and it will make you believe in love and have faith. There are not enough words to say how much I loved this.
Special note to Mia: the reference to god’s existence is the same one my mom taught me and siblings when we were kids. It is a sweet way to remember that we all have a spiritual side.
“ There was no real bravery without fear.”
Mia Sheridan presents the fans with a sensational book. More Than Words brings a contemporary novel with hints of historical romance filled with love, anguish, lyricism, musicality with a mature writting and full of references.
Jessie is a girl who feels the pain of her mother in her skin and plunges deep into the magic of Fairy Tales to be able to survive all the anguish that tries to take care of her heart. Passionate about the classics like The Three Musketeers and King Arthur, when she finds a lonely and sad boy, she introduces him to this world in which he accepts to participate. Dreamy, naive, pure and sweet, she transforms the life of the suffering Callen. Until the day he does not show up anymore.
Callen has a miserable existence thanks to a serious problem that he hides under seven keys, he ends up finding in music his escape valve but the world of entertainment also brings people who in no way help him overcome his inner demons, only making him more the famous bad boy silent, mysterious and closed. Until the day he meets the only one that has always touched his heart.
But Jessica, while continuing a romantic dreamer, realizes that Callen is no longer the same boy as before and knows that if she let him get too close to her heart, she will suffer a lot later.
What I found most interesting is how Mia Sheridan presented this two characters with serious family problems and how each one of them resolved to adopt a different worldview with totally different attitudes of one another: Callen does not hide that he is a problematic person and that he does not want to love while Jessica dreams of being loved.
“But I also knew now that life was more than words. It was laughter and love, faith and joy. ”
Of course, with this title I remember the song from Extreme, More Than Words, and I put it to listen in some music app leaving free the next songs while reading but what was not my surprise when it plays Stargazing by Kygo and I felt that this one was really the music that would pack me on the journey of Jessie and Callen. The letter of Stargazing fits nicely into Jessie’s idea of trying to help Callen realize that he can love and be loved, shows how hopeful she is even in the face of human cruelty. Wow! I can not even describe the feelings I had in reading this book and listening to this song.
Mia Sheridan was fantastic both in choosing the setting for the two encounters and in the way she presented the love statements that appear throughout the plot.
Launching a beautiful message of overcoming, faith, second chances and mainly …
A message about opening our eyes and realizing how God responds to our appeals in a way that we least expect, but we need to be open-minded in order not to let the moment of Grace pass.
6/5 stars
“Sometimes the beginning of love is just a simple matter of proximity.”
I’ve learned that it’s not necessary to read a synopsis to decide if I want to read the next Mia Sheridan book, it’s an automatic hell yes! Time after time she’s ripped my heart out and put it back together again with her magical words. I’m amazed by her word wizardry and the beautifully broken characters she creates that take me to places I would never have visited on my own.
I was first introduced to Callen & Jessica when they were kids. She stumbled upon his hiding place and discovered her broken prince. In all the fairytales she’d read previously it was the prince that saved the princess, but that didn’t stop her from declaring, “I’m here to save you.” And she did.
They shared many adventures and their dreams for the future. She melted when he kissed her, and then she was devastated when he disappeared without saying goodbye. What she thought was the beginning of something special turned out to be the end. But she never forgot him.
Years later their paths crossed again. She remembered him immediately, but in his drunken state, he barely knew his own name. “So he’d grown up to be a conceited, womanizing manwhore—a wildly successful, crazy talented, conceited, womanizing manwhore. Well, good for him.” Unfortunately, her broken prince was still broken…
Callen has been trying to drown his demons. And he avoids the loneliness and nightmares by never being alone. But he never remembers their names. Too bad the numbness he seeks also numbs his muse. The music in his head is silent, his writer’s block is feeding the doubts that haunt him. It’s not until he runs into Jessie again that he starts hearing the music in his mind. She reminds him of when she first introduced him to musical notes and how they changed his life. How she changed his life…
They might have accidentally ended up in Paris at the same time, but they are still worlds apart. He must go where the music takes him and she is following her chosen career path which is in France. They know that there’s no future for them, but tell that to their hearts. It’s safer to insist, “No promises, so no regrets.” Good luck with that, right?
Along with Jessie, “I wondered if he was too damaged, too bent on self-destruction.” But I never gave up hope. I can never resist a broken bad boy, or a broken prince and Callen had me wrapped around his little finger from the beginning. I wanted Princess Jessica to slay his demons and win his heart…sigh.
I devoured this incredible story full of history and music and pain and promise. I fell in love with the characters and yearned for them to find a way to overcome the obstacles in their path. I got so caught up in the details that I could hear the music and the French accents, and I felt the raindrops and I felt their pain. It touched me deeply and long after I turned the last page I continue to think about them. That’s why I keep coming back for more from this author. The line forms here…
1 like
So funny story…. 2 or 3 years ago I went to barnes and noble on a typical saturday just looking around and I saw More than Words on the shelf. I read the synopsis and thought this would be a great read. Of course I was broke lol so I couldn’t buy it so I always take a photo of books that I like for me to remember for later. For some reason I didn’t this time (dumb I know lol) and when I went back a few weeks later it was gone. And since my memory sucks I couldn’t remember the title or author (face smack!) Until about a month ago, I went to dollar tree and there it was!!!!! I was so happy and now that I’ve read it really mad that I didn’t buy it that day!!! lol
Such beautiful story! I love Jessie and Callen’s chemistry and just they idea that they were in some way always meant to be together. She was there to save him! Ugh I cried several times throughout the book. Thank you Mia for this story and can’t wait to read more 🙂
1- Amazing characters.
2- Amazing story.
3- Amazing setting.
4- Amazing plot.
5- Read this beautiful story.
It’s one of the best books I’ve read in a while. I wish I could’ve rated the book more than five stars. I absolutely love More Than Words.
A romantic, magical and powerful fairy tale.
Be ready to live one of the “grandest adventure of all”.
I felt like a little girl believing in magic, prince, castle… and wanting to believe in faith, hope and love.
Mia mixed romance with something new for her. I can’t spoil but she really knew how to dose each element , each aspect of her story. We dream and we learn. We hurt and we love.
Jessie is us, women who want to believe that men can be honest and loyal. She dives in fairy tales like we dive in books. Searching for an escape, a better life, a magical one where we are strong and brave heroines finding our prince charming. She is the angel we expect when we know Mia’s books. Pure, with a heart of gold, some feathers on her back that make her fly away from her past and toward the life she dreamt of. So brave, smart and impressive. But real life is not easy. People have their ghosts, their weaknesses, their scars.
Callen feels trapped by his demons. Each time he speaks about himself i hurt. Words can be worst than anything. He’s a broken prince we’d like to save… But can we save people who don’t fight? Can we save people who don’t think they deserve it?
As always Mia writes poetry but she brings more… More than her words… A new… dimension. New dimensionS. And the magic happens … and works.
Here we have a beautiful lesson of faith and bravery. Life can be good if we keep our eyes open. If we recognise and take gifts we are given. There’s no regret to have if you follow your beliefs and hopes, not just words.
“LIVE FIERCELY AND WITHOUT REGRET”.
I know how much Mia worked on this book and i assure you you won’t be disappointed. I’m pretty sure you’ll feel the need to re-read it. I can’t praise her enough. She’s full of surprises. And talent.
Thank you Mia Sheridan, for being so inspiring, for your trust, for your heart, for your words… You made me cry yes, but you also made me happy and proud. And no word is strong enough to thank you for that.
I loved the combination of music and romance. I cried and suffered with Callen and Jessica. Callen as the dark, brooding composer with a life style of excess is endearing. I just want him to crawl out of his hole. Jessica is adorable yet feisty and fiercely loyal and independent. Sheridan just got everything right in this book. Looking forward to reading her other titles.
Young love doesn’t always turn out the way you plan, but it does provide the foundation that all relationships are built upon in the future. Jessica Creswell never planned on discovering that boy in the rail car that day. Callen was the broken soul that was calling to Jessica. They shared a love of books, and a keen interest in music. What Jessica never prepared for was the day when Callen would no longer show up in their meeting place, ending a chapter in their childhood that would forever remain an important part of Jessica’s life.
Years would pass and fate would once again throw these two into the same path. Jessica is on a course that will lead her one step closer to following her dreams. What she never prepared for was a run in with the one boy that stole her heart all those years ago. Callen is nothing like the boy from his youth, and it is plain that he does not recognize the girl that helped him find music in his life. One kiss sealed the fate of those two that night, and nothing would ever be the same for them again.
More Than Words is the unconventional romance penned by Mia Sheridan. It revolves around a childhood friendship that extends into a present day reintroduction. The emotional aspect of Callen’s life kept me vested in their saga. In addition – the secondary history that Jessica was uncovering in the historical writings also presented me with a draw to the past. I was absorbed in discovering just how vested these two were in the past, present, and future.
As with any Mia Sheridan romance, I found myself transported into a world of love and mystery. Callen was the broken soul that longed to find his way in a world that was determined to crush his spirit. The path to redemption more often than not is riddled with roadblocks. How you get to the destination is the magic of your journey. For Callen – that path was rocky and winding, but Jessica was the light that shined during the darkest of times. More Than Words is a wonderful second chance romance that deserves a place on your growing reading list!!
Fantastic and well written love story that will pull at your heartstrings. I think this is the first book from this author that I’ve read but it definitely won’t be my last. Instant fan for sure. The book had some heavy story lines yet carried with it a sweet innocence throughout the dialogue and character interactions. I added on the audio narration and I was so happy with how the narrator’s voice really brought the emotion and the story to life. I’d highly recommend adding that if you have the opportunity.
Great addition to any book lover’s (romance esp.) collection.
Happy Reading…enjoy!
More Than Words is a childhood friends to lover romance that will make your heart soar and hurt it all at the same time. I’m going to be very honest here and I know that this isn’t fair to the author. I actually really think this book could have spoken to me more than it did if I didn’t just come off of one of the most emotional books I’ve ever read right before I started it. The writing is brilliant and the storytelling is flawless. I was connected to Jessie and Callen from the start. I honestly just think I was emotional spent. For that, I apologize dear Mia Sheridan and I will most definitely be going back and reading it again soon.
I think one of my favorite things about Jessie and Callen’s story is from the moment they met, they accepted each other. They were each others rocks and watching that foundation build was beautiful. It only makes you fight harder with them later down the road.
I also really loved the historical part of it. With Jessie’s job and the history that she becomes a part of. I sort of geeked out over it, which is saying a lot because I used to HATE history! Her passion made me passionate about it.
Oh..and can we talk about Callen’s assistant. When she was checking his text messages for him and relaying things on, I was dying. Dying. She was so freaking hilarious.
If you are looking for a soulmate romance with two unique people who have been in love since they were children but overcome a lot to be together in the end, then this is the book for you. It will make you feel, so be prepared for that.
I enjoyed this book and was sucked into the story the entire time. I especially liked the secondary historical storyline. I recommend this book.
Such a great story of love lost and found and then fought for. Callen was a young
man with a secret that was painful for him and Jessie was the only one who could
save him. In the end they saved each other.
This was my first Mia Sheridan book, and I’ve downloaded a couple more. I love characters who overcome life’s problems with grace and determination. Great characters!
5 beautifully heartwarming stars!

Prologue – 11-year old Jessica’s POV
“Someday I’m going to go on the adventure grandest adventure of all–I’m going to live in Paris, have a French boyfriend who writes me the most beautiful love letters ever, and I’m going to eat French chocolate all day long.”
“Sounds like you’ll be fat.”
I shrugged. “Maybe. If I want to be.”
The boy chuckled softly, and butterflies fluttered in my tummy. He was even more handsome when he smiled.
What elements did I like most about this contemporary romance? It was / featured…
Sweet / Charming / Overseas French settings – J’adore la France surtout Paris! / Easy-to-read / Plenty of Flashbacks / Fascinating historical sub-plot / Inspirational / Wonderful characters / Witty / Original / Page-turner / Steamy / Romantic / HEA
I finished reading the adventures of Jessica and Callen while doing a very late post-dinner walk Saturday night. It was excellent! I enjoyed reading this one slowly and savoring being in Paris again. These two were destined to reconnect and France was the perfect setting for their reunion. It took them a while to get on the same page, but I cheered them on as they worked to get there overcoming insecurities and hurt feelings bravely. I loved the epilogue look into their future as well.
Ch. 27 Jessica’s POV:
His smile was filled with tenderness. “I love you, Jessie. Only you. I’ve loved you for a long, long time, forever I think.”
Bravo, Mia Sheridan!
More Than Words is a story within a story and spans over 600 years. It’s a thoughtful story, past and present. It’s a story that takes longer to read, as you have to feel and reflect on what you’ve read.
Callen and Jessie’s story started as children, and their story continues more than a decade later. It’s fear and anger, guilt and resentment. It’s regret. Regret is an opportunity wasted. And Callen has to discover that on his own.
There is Fate. There is God’s message. There is learning from history. There is praying for help. And there is recognizing what that help is, and grasping onto it for all you’re worth, to the good in life; more importantly, the good in yourself. Find that beauty; that inner peace and light. There is Love.
“…life was more than words. It was laughter and love, faith and joy. And mostly, it was the deep peace that came from living fiercely and without regret.”
More Than Words is a song that brings a smile to you’re face and hums happily inside your heart. It will warm your insides with hope and delight at the little things. It’s sweet and the perfect amount of “sappy”.
I honestly thought the coolest part was Jessica’s work. I was enthralled by the “story” she uncovers. I found myself more enchanted by that fairytale than Jessica’s own. (It must be the history lover in me.)
I think it’s sweet and a second chance romance with flair. I mean not everyone gets their HEA in France.
Truly Amazing
