I romanced her for revenge…but what if she’s not the enemy after all? I’m Clint Holmes. I was an ambitious guy with a busy life and a growing business. Sure North Dakota wasn’t a tropical paradise, but I was happy enough—until tragedy struck. Now the only thing that matters is finding the person responsible and making her pay. But Bethany Banks is a Harvard-educated shark used to swallowing her … Harvard-educated shark used to swallowing her enemies whole while playing dangerous corporate games. How can a blue-collar oil man like me possibly beat her?
The moment I lay eyes on my beautiful nemesis, the answer is obvious. I seduce her.
On Maui, where she’s fled, I get to know the man-eater who caused my family so much pain…only to find she’s not the brazen ballbuster I assumed. She’s skittish, secretive, vulnerable. For some reason, my instinct is to protect her. I can’t abandon my plan…but I can’t stop wanting her. Night after night, I pry her open with my touch until I’m drowning in our passion. Soon, I’m questioning everything, especially the fine line between love and hate. But when the past comes back to wreak vengeance and the truth explodes, can I prove that I’m more than tempted to love her forever?

More Than Tempt You is a standalone in the More Than Words series. Each book focuses on one of the Barclay siblings, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. While this series has an overall theme of one father who has ruined their worlds in a different way, you do not have to read in order. You learn real quick in the beginning what Beth is dealing with.
If you have read any of the previous books, you do get a small introduction to Beth and it wasn’t a flattering picture for her. After learning what kind of man their father was, it was no surprise he had at least one of the siblings fooled. What you learn in this book was just how he fooled her and how truly horrible this man is. I knew he was bad when the other siblings talked about him but in Beth’s story, you get the worst of it.
Honestly it’s surprising how Beth still has a good side to her after what her father forced her into over the years. You get a whole new Beth in this book. Her blindfold was ripped off and truths were revealed that left her reeling in the aftermath.
Clint wants revenge and he believes Beth deserves everything that’s coming to her. He wants answers and he wants her to pay but that’s hard to do when you can’t find her. He gets a lucky break when a friend of his tells him he found her in Maui. Coming at her for answers hasn’t worked so he has to devise a plan to sneak into her life to find the answers.
I’m usually on edge when one of the couple’s is deceiving the other cause you know the truth will all come out in a disastrous way. That does happen, but it was also done in a way that made me love how they got to know each other. I don’t see how it could have happened any other way with the situation they were in. It still took me a long time to like Beth but I loved Clint. Even with him being the deceiver, he was honorable and protected her even in the face of his anger.
This has been a really enjoyable series. I’ve loved getting to know all of these siblings and their journey to finding love in the face of the bitterness they all felt due to their father. It was great to see all of them and their significant others come together for Beth in this book. Great series!
4.5 Star reviews of More Than Tempt You (More Than Words #5) by Shayla Black
The fifth book in the series and this one is just as good as the first four books. This is Clint Holmes and Bethany (Beth) Banks’ story.
What an emotional roller coaster More Than Tempt You was, with a plenty of highs and lows that will keep you captivated from the first to the last chapter.
Determined to seek revenge on the woman who has caused so much pain to his family, Clint tracks her down in Hawaii. Imagine his shock when she is not at all what he was expecting. Instead he finds a woman who is vulnerable and not at all the corporate shark he expected.
The chemistry between Clint and Bethany is intense and almost overpowering. What will happen when the truth comes out? Will Clint be able to convince Bethany that the feelings he has developed are real even though their relationship started out based on lies?
Shayla Black writes stories that are strong, full of emotion and gripping. This series seems to get better and better with each book and I look forward to reading more in this series in the not to distant future.
Clint and Bethany’s story is a lesson in getting your facts straight before plotting revenge.
Clint wants her to pay for his father’s death. Working along side of her under false pretenses, he begins to see a different person all together than what he believed she was.
Bethany is trying to do what’s right and at the same time taking shelter from the storm her father caused. What she did not expect was to become involved with the very warm and sexy new co-worker.
Getting too close, avoiding deep personal conversations with distracting kisses and dealing with everything that falls apart makes for an intriguing story. A true page turner! And another fantastic Reed family Reckoning!
There is something so amazing about this series. Life is not perfect. It never will be. People make mistakes. People can forgive. This series has proven that story after story.
I don’t even know where to start with this book, I mean I thoroughly enjoyed it, but damn if it didn’t have my heart in turmoil. My heart ached for Bethany and the reality that she got heaped on her. She is hella smart and driven, good heart and all she wanted out of life was to be loved and accepted, which was both her downfall and her redemption. Clint has his own tragedy to deal with, along with the anger that comes with it, which was also his downfall, but love was his redemption. It was a powerful read for me.
One of my top reads of 2019, though all of Shayla Black’s books are. Bethany is the sibling that is elusive to me. Clint is a man on a mission, but is he even sure of what that is? Is it revenge or is there something more? Their chemistry is dynamic and just grows through the pages of this novel. Things aren’t always as they appear and we find that in this budding relationship.
Though this book is #5 in the More Than Words series, it can be read as a stand alone, but why wouldn’t you want to get to know the rest of the family?
So I love everything Shayla Black writes. Although sometimes we as readers just wish there was more that the characters had to offer and I understand that sometimes those characters are done talking. So coming back to Clint and Bethany, they were perfect for each other.
Although initially Clint was trying to get revenge from Bethany but ended up falling in love with her. And Bethany was in shadow of her father all her life. It was Clint who helped her blossom in to a beautiful independent woman, who had to deal with her past in order to move foreward in her life.
It was an absolute pleasure to read another 5+******** from Shayla Black. I can’t wait to read more from her. Thank you.
More Than Tempt You was my first book in some time by Shayla Black but it served as a reminder of why I love the author’s storytelling abilities. She draws you in quickly, and before you know it, you’re glued to your seat reading stories that are absolutely entertaining. I discovered her with her early erotic romances and over time, I have seen her expand into new genres and have loved these new endeavors every bit as much. I don’t have the opportunity to read her work as often as I have in the past, but I find that regardless of how long it’s been since I picked up a book by this particular author, I am always able to jump in with a truly excellent read.
More Than Tempt You was a delicious, seductive romance told from the hero’s POV. Clint’s emotions run deep, and Shayla made connecting with him easy—even when Clint was struggling with the unwitting emotional attachment that grows as he discovers who Bethany truly is—his character was easy to identify with and I was rooting for him… his HEA, his devastating loss, the connection with Bethany—all of it draws you in and makes you love this particular hero. Yet, I also wanted to believe in the innocence of the heroine, Bethany. While I wouldn’t classify this read as an Enemies-to-Lovers romance, I felt like the story had that vibe. Clint’s feelings for Bethany were complex and well documented—he hates her, then he begrudgingly develops feelings for her… falling quickly for the woman who he has every reason to hate and yet he can’t help but love her. It’s a complexity you can only understand if you’ve read the story. I can say that while I loved Clint, I was on the fence with Bethany… she seemed to be two completely opposite people and even when explanations for her actions were made clear, I still struggled with her person. Yet, I. LOVED. This. Story. I am desperately hoping to see Clint’s brothers in a book of their own, and pending my blogging scheduled I will be all over those books should Shayla develop them. As for More Than Tempt You, this story will satisfy you on every level. It’s super sexy with a bit of everything. It’s steamy, has action that keeps you drawn into the plot. It’s relatively fast paced, and you won’t be able to set it down. The mystery that intersects with the romance makes it heartbreaking and deeply satisfying.
More Than Tempt You is the fifth book in the More Than Words series and reads as a complete standalone. I am more than tempted to put aside my blog schedule to read the previous books within the series… although I won’t, ha-ha. I give it a solid 4.5 stars and recommend it without question. While I find it hard to imagine a romance reader that hasn’t read Shayla Black at one time or another in their journey, More Than Tempt You is certainly a great place to start… and trust me, you’ll be binge reading in no time!
Quotes:
She’s the enemy… and my dick doesn’t care.
—
God, everything about her is flipping my switch in a way I’ve never felt. A week ago I would have said this woman wasn’t my type. Too quiet, too delicate, too controlled. Now? Every fantasy I’m having is about mussing her up and making her scream.
—
When I’m with her, I feel as if I’m ravenous— and she’s my ideal banquet.
—
What a fucking fool. I knew before I met her that she played corporate games to win. I thought if I didn’t pit myself as her foe, if I approached her instead as a friend and a lover, that she would be human and honest. But no.
—
I may have fallen for her because I orchestrated this giant lie to ferret out her “crimes,” and I regret that like hell. But I don’t regret a moment of the time we spent together.
Shayla Black is a whiz at writing romances, and I was very excited to read More Than Tempt You.
Clint Holmes is out for revenge. In one fell swoop his father lost all his life savings in a ponzi scheme and Clint wants to make who he thinks was behind all of it pay. Namely Bethany Banks who is somethig of a financial whiz. The story takes place in Hawaii where Clint goes to find his answers and make the beautiful woman pay. But the Bethany he finds there is nothing like the Bethany he’d thought she would be.
She’s socially awkward, naive, and stirs something behind Clint’s tough facade. Against all reason he finds himself falling for the woman he swore to destroy. Things aren’t as they seem, and Bethany is hiding something big. If only he could figure out what.
Shayla Black blends romance perfectly with this story line. I really enjoyed watching Clint fall in love, even though he did everything he could to avoid it. We don’t really get to know what Bethany is thinking, but I felt that only added to the essence of the story. It’s what kept me reading.
I really enjoyed More Than Tempt You.
MORE THAN TEMPT YOU is the fifth book in the More Than Words series. This book can be read as a standalone although I recommend you read all the books in the series in order for some great story. Clint and Bethany story is a good story that makes since because when u lose a parent, especially unexpected you never know how someone will react. I absolutely love series so you can keep tabs on the other characters in the series. I can’t get enough of Harlow and Noah and you get some of them. Shayla Black never disappoints, and she didn’t here either.
Wow!!! This story has everything! A bit of suspense, sexy alpha hero, strong heroine, and amazing story line. My heart hurt so much for the pain that both Bethany and Clint have gone through. I loved reading about the secondary characters, and can’t wait to get the next book in this series! An amazing read that I would highly recommend!!
More Than Tempt You is the perfect title for Clint Holmes and Bethany Banks’ story because Clint’s plan to uncover the truth revolves around getting as close to Bethany as he can, but while finding his in wasn’t difficult once he found her location, keeping his connection with her as impersonal as possible is easier said than done, which not only complicates his plan for revenge but also makes him question everything he ever thought about her role in his family’s fall from grace.
It’s fitting that most of Clint and Bethany’s story is told through his point-of-view. It’s his mission…his cause…his need for closure, so witnessing everything from his perspective allows readers to gain information as he does, sifting through all of the details of what happened as well as working to figure out who the real Bethany is because the version that he interacts with and gets closer to in Hawaii is nothing like the enemy he’s put everything on the line to take down.
I have to admit…not getting Bethany’s viewpoint, at times, made it a bit difficult to understand her…to sort through the facts from the fiction…to ascertain just what kind of person her father’s demands made her and how different things could have been for her if she would have found a way to see through her father’s secrets and lies.
Regardless of how plutonic Clint tried to make things between him and Bethany, it was clear he was a goner for her as soon as she showed herself to be something completely different that who Clint had pegged her as, which means that while he infiltrated her life with ulterior motives, everything changes for him, but what that means for uncovering the truth about what happened and the mess Clint will be in not if but when Bethany learns she’s been played, once again being used by a man who fooled her and treated her as a toy instead of the intelligent woman she is.
I’ve really enjoyed Shayla Black’s More Than Words series, and More Than Tempt You was an intriguing read – one with a bit of mystery and drama as well as a quest for the truth mixed in. Clint and Bethany’s story may have started as an enemies-to-lovers, but it seems to turn into something else as soon as Clint questions who Bethany really is and what kind of closure he now wants/needs for both his family and himself.

4 stars
Fantastic addition to the More Than Words series by one of my favorite authors, Shayla Black!
This story was heartbreaking because Shayla just makes you feel so much but it slowly puts you back together again. I’ve loved all the characters in this series but I truly enjoyed hope multifaceted Clint and Bethany were. The story is alternately sweet, suspenseful and sexy. Seriously great read! Highly recommend!

This is the fifth book in the More Than Words Series and it is the story of Clint Holmes and Bethany Banks. Was everything they shared a lie? Clint was living his life in North Dakota when everything came to a crashing halt. Hell bent on revenge; he decides to go after the person/persons responsible. Bethany thought all was right in her world and had the reputation to back it up until her world came tumbling down thanks to the one person she looked up to, her father. Deciding to get out of dodge and hide away, Bethany escapes to Maui where she is surrounded by her newly found siblings and begins to rebuild her life. Clint arrives on the island with one mission to get the truth out of Bethany but that is easier said than done. The more time Clint spends with her, the faster he is falling. However, he is keeping a secret from her that she may not be able to ever forgive. Once again Shayla Black has delivered a multifaceted complex storyline with relatable characters filled with drama and the whimsical background of Hawaii where anyone can just get lost and found.
I volunteered to read an advance copy of this book.
I enjoyed the plot of this book and couldn’t wait to see where things would go between Bethany and Clint. It was dramatic and extremely rocky! It started out strong and left me worrying for both of the main characters. The more time Beth and Clint spent together, the more the original intentions became blurred and feelings started taking over logic.
These two main characters had a sweet chemistry, but one of both was always on guard due to their pasts. This slowed down the romance and made their connection stronger.
I did feel like there were entirely too many characters introduced and it became extremely confusing keeping track of who belonged to which family and who was married to who.
I felt like the end of the story was a bit rushed and completely unrealistic, given how the entire first 90% of the story went down. I was happy with the HEA but gave this read a 3/5 stars rating due to the sudden rushed ending and somewhat dire attempt that the hero made to keep the heroine. It just seemed so forced and far fetched and didn’t flow with the rest of the read.
This author continues to amaze me with her stories they are always completely amazing and exceptional. I’ve loved this whole series and this book was great continuation of the more than words series. In this story we get to meet Clint and Bethany their story is unique and page turning! It’s a must read that I would highly recommend to others!!
Wish I could give this book more than five stars! This is one story I’ll be reading again, I loved it so much! I felt with connection with Clint and Bethany from the beginning!!
Clint’s Dad was telling him about how his investment lady (Bethany) was this great person and that her and Clint would be perfect for each other. However, Clint’s Dad dies and it seems Bethany has disappeared and so has his Dad’s money. Clint decides to go after her and get his Dad’s money back. Through his friend Ash, he finds out she has fled to Hawaii. Clint goes there after her, with a plan forming in his mind on how to take her down. However, when he meets her she isn’t the shark he thought she was she’s actually the opposite. When sparks fly between the two, will Clint give in to his desire to see what info he can get out of her? Or is there really an attraction and something special between the two of them. Deceit is never the way to begin a friendship/relationship.
I devoured this book, it was so good!! The story line, the characters, were all spot on!!
Awesome!
Another terrific read from this author. Absolutely loved Clint and Bethany’s book. It just goes to show things aren’t always as they seem.
Clint is set on revenge. After the sudden loss of his father, Clint sets his target on the one he deems responsible for his loss. For a man that has himself pretty well together, his world has been thrown off balance. He’s hard worker, loyal to his family and caring man. Clint is truly one of the good ones. However his plot for revenge may not be what his thought it is. Clint learns that you can’t judge the book by its cover, you have to get both sides of the story to truly know what’s going on. His plan is in play but when his plan turns on him, Clint opens his eyes wide for and sees something much better than revenge.
Bethany never believed the stories about her father. But then first hand she saw the absolute ruthlessness that the man who gave her life was truly capable of. One minute life is grand and the next Bethany’s professional career is going down the drain while her personal life has just felt like an earthquake exploded from within her. With the help of her brothers and sister Bethany tries to move on and generally lay low while the mess her father created and put her through works itself out. I honestly think Bethany was not even sure who she was anymore. With the help of her wonderful siblings, a tropical paradise and a man who’s got his head twisted help Bethany saves the day and herself.
More Than Tempt You, the latest book from Shayla Black’s More Than Words Series is an emotional whirlwind that will have you holding your breath while keeping you on the edge. Clint and Bethany truly surprised me. If you have read prior books in the series, Bethany has not been painted as the most beautiful character. I would’ve never guessed that she goes as deep as what she does. Bethany is a kind soul and she more than showed it. Clint is a family man at heart and I love that about him. As hard as he tried to be cold hearted, once he saw things may not be what they appeared, his heart wanted to embrace and his mind just had to catch up. People so wrapped in their emotions learn so much more once they let the guard down a bit. Getting that guard to come down was the fun or the hard part depending on how you look at it. Clint and Bethany found their way into my heart and I’m sure, given the chance, they will for you as well.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again there is something about the More Than Words Series that just gets to me. I feel so inside of our main character head with each book. It’s so personal and intimate. In a way they are bearing their souls. Music plays a huge part of the stories. For me music is a big part of my life so it allows me to connect with the story on another level. Music and emotions go hand and hand and Ms. Black shows readers just how deep with each story of the series.
More Than Tempt You is a beautiful edition to the More Than Words Series.
Clint is dead set on proving that Bethany is ruthless and has stolen money from lots of people, his dad included. He makes a plan to get her to confess everything but when he finally meets her, he starts having doubts. Bethany, meanwhile, has no idea what her father has down to a lot of people. What will happen when she finds out and then also finds out Clint was only using her? This book was powerful and emotional. Tragedy, betrayal, lies and deceit…………..can Bethany overcome all of this? And will Clint really let her go? Good book!!!
