Whenever I pick up a book by this talented author I know am in for a treat. This one proved me right. Not only was it a touching story , but it was also thought provoking.
The story centers around Jill Davis and Sam Hawker. They met three years ago in a bar. On a totally out of character move, Jill had a one night stand with a stranger she met in a bar.
Neither has forgotten the other. One was the lifeline in a time of despair, the other one was a memory that has affected how they “grade” any potential relationship.
When they meet again by chance , Sam , now a former Marine, is looking for a job in the adventure venture Jill is managing employing former military individuals.
The sparks fly and even though obstacles are in their way, the “one more night” let them know the connection was real.
It was at times heartbreaking, at others funny. Also , it was a reminder that the experiences we have in our childhood and youth, and how our parents react to them, do in fact affect us as adults. In addition to a reminder of the physical and emotional devastations that many of our returning troops suffer while in war. We need to support and assist these brave men and women returning to civilian life.
Kudos to the author for that reminder.
I am looking forward to the next book by Ms. Bell.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
A bar. Too many mojitos. A soldier shipping out the next day. It all leads up to a one night stand for Jill. She’s thought about “Chris” in the past three years, usually as a way to rate her dates since him. Now, she’s thrown herself into building an outdoor adventure business that give veterans valid employment. Her first employee is Sam Hawker, or Chris as she knew him. They’d both given fake names.
Sam couldn’t believe he’d found her. He knew Angelina wasn’t her name but they never exchanged their real names. All he knew was how grateful he was. Her memory helped pull him through some horrible times in the war. Now, he suffers from PTSD & doesn’t want to tell her about it. He admires what she’s doing. The chemistry between them is still there but he’d have to admit what’s going on if they get involved.
I enjoyed this story. Ms. Bell managed to perfectly describe their interactions so that you could feel their emotions. The characters, especially Sam, manage to tug on your heart & keep you involved in the story. It’s a different way to raise awareness of the issues our vets grapple with when they come home. The story may be fiction but you know the issues are real.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This is a Harlequin Special Edition that reads like a mainstream novel. Jill Davis and Marine Sam Hawker had a one night stand years ago. They each, openly, made up names and made a pact to not reveal anything about themselves during the time they were together. After that, Sam was leaving the next day to go overseas.
Three years later, Jill opens a new business and chooses to only hire veterans. And, of course, one of these veterans happens to be Sam. Of course, since neither of them knew their real names, they were both blind-sided. Unfortunately, since Jill is now Sam’s employer, they need to ignore their hot chemistry.
More Than One Night is a story about two wounded people whose chemistry is so strong that I was able to feel it as I read the story. Over the three years, Sam was severely injured and had fought his way back to where he is now. Without his military work, Sam cannot figure out how he wants to spend the rest of his life. This new job offers him a chance to think about his future as he works to regain his self-respect. It also gives him a chance to work out his traumatic experiences with other veterans who have been through the same kind of experiences than he has.
As I was reading this book, I found myself experiencing many different emotions such as happiness, sadness, anger and pain. Both Jill and Sam have family expectations that they simply cannot meet. These experiences decidedly affect their emotions and their actions.
This is the beginning of a new series by Heatherly Bell. I am looking forward to reading her future books about the people on Wildfire Ridge.
This was a great little story. I loved Jill and Sam from the moment I met them. Jill and Sam had met each other three years earlier when they had a one night stand. They used different names and figured they would never see each other again. Fast forward 3 years and Sam shows up for work and find his new boss, Jill, stuck up on a flag pole. Lol. Even though they agree nothing can happen again because Jill is Sam’s boss you can tell they are still very attracted to each other. Sam is not in the right head space to want to start a relationship or even think he can have one. His experience in the war is still giving him nightmares and he hasn’t been able to move forward yet. Jill has her own issues with dealing with her feelings but she is able to accept that she has feelings for Sam and wants him. Luckily they can’t fight their attraction for too long. They were such a great couple and I was really rooting for them. I was happy that there was another guy that worked with Sam that had a similar back story and was able to kind of help Sam see that was help out there is he just asked for it. I really liked Jill’s friend Zoey and hope to see her get her own book maybe with a certain sheriff….
This was a great first book in a new series and I can’t wait for more!
You meet. You spend a memorable night together, knowing you will never see each other again…until you do!
What a great story. Sam and Jill are perfect for each other, except, instead of cover names and the thought they’d never meet again, Sam is interested in working for Jill. Can they overcome the employee/employer relationship and pick up where they left off three years ago? Will they realize they are perfect partners, especially when an attraction as strong as this one won’t go away?
A great beginning to a new series by the talented Heatherly Bell. I can’t wait to read more about Wildfire Ridge and its citizens!
