Zoey Mathers had everything going for her until one night she lost her biggest client, her job, and her reputation. Leaving her life up to fate, Zoey closed her eyes and pointed. She would serve out her career exile in the small mountain town of Moonshine Hollow where alcohol flowed as freely as a mountain stream.Giving up the law to become a baker in Moonshine Hollow turned out to be the best … thing she’d ever done. She was happy and enjoying life in her new small town. But Zoey should have learned the first time . . . one night can change your whole life. The two events can’t be coincidence, right? And that’s all before fate turns up one more sexy hunk of a twist . . .

Even though this is a break from Kathleen Brook’s normal style. I liked it!!! Looking forward to the other 2 books in the series!!!!
A pleasant and silly cozy mystery that I consumed in one night. I enjoyed the small town vibes and the characters, the mystery itself could have used another 50-100 pgs, felt weak and rushed. (If you’ve had any involvement with the criminal legal system, leave that experience at the door & just pretend this exists in another universe to enjoy the story). If I pick up another book in this series it will be because I am dying to see more of Slade and hoping something develops there.
Different from previous Kathleen Brooks books that I’ve read, but enjoyed the magical twist. Characters well developed and fun. I like this format from Brooks.
This is a good start to a new series (for me) that I am looking forward to continuing.
Halarious. Awesome book
Kathleen kicks off a new genera in the same quirky fashion she is known for. Zoey’s life is upended and she ends up in a small mountain town where things are never as they seem. This is book one of three and it does contain cliff-hangers!
What a fabulous way to start a series. This is definitely a case of taking lemons and making margaritas (why settle for lemonade?).
Zoey was on the fast track, then derailed faster than she could blink. What started out as a short term solution becomes so much more, and in typical Brooks’ fashion the reader wants to move to the town with the characters!
Be prepared for the unexpected and unexplainable, but as always, a wonderfully crafted story. I can’t wait to read the next book.
Zoey a lawyer on the rise till one clients coasts her everything, Slade a bouncer at a bat who watched the crazy go down nails Zoey out and helps her start over. Moonshine Hollow isnt your typical town but as Zoey opens her bakery and somehow becomes a witch, things start to get crazy in this quiet town, when murder strikes and slade shows up out of the blue. Can Zoey save everyone? Is slade the evile they fear?
Great book to read, unexpected and very different from other stories about witches and the supernatural.
It’s a charming story. Well, except for the male witches trying to kill the female ones to take their powers.
I admit, I saw the title of this book and downloaded it thinking it was a mystery. It is a mystery but also a witchcraft book. I didn’t bother with the blub, which I wish I had.
If you took out the witch part of this book, I probably would have enjoyed it a lot more. It was a cute, small town mystery with a love interest. These books are usually enjoyable. Good for a quick, non emotional read. I struggled through this one, even with as short as it is.
The characters were very cliche’ for me. I am not sure what I expect from a book with witches in it, but I am sure these characters weren’t what I had expected. There just isn’t a lot of character development outside of their job titles and a few being witches. I can’t say I was a fan.
The plot itself was a bit outside of the box. A little too far outside of the box for me. It honestly went beyond the suspension of disbelief. It just wasn’t a book for me. I can see some enjoying it. I just couldn’t get on board.
*Note for the author: This book could use a round of proofreading. There are many places where words are omitted. And other places where the wrong tense of words is used. For example, ending in -ing instead of -ed.
Oh,, what a twist to the story,,, is Slade good or bad.? This will be a great series of stories.
What an awesome story, wonderful plot! Loved the weird and unique characters! What a great small town, feels like any small town in America, wished I lived there! Full of fun, surprises, mystery, secrets, mayhem, murder and wonderful twists and turns! Being arrested, getting fired, moving to a new town, a new state, a new job, and starting over, doesn’t seem to bad. Especially since she accidentally became a witch! Can she clear her best friend of murder? She has a week to prove she didn’t do it, piece of cake! Loved it, couldn’t stop ready until I finished it!
Totally fell in love with the characters. Look forward to the rest of the series. Different from her previous books. Definitely worth the read.
