Five nights. Two adversaries. Only one bed in their hotel room.
I’m at the height of my athletic career. Yet my arrogant brother is always trying to recruit me into the family business: a global security company so secretive that I don’t even know its name. Pass, thanks. I don’t need a summer job. But the jerk ambushes me with a damsel in distress. That damsel is Alex, the competitive, sassy … Alex, the competitive, sassy girl I knew when we were kids. Now she’s a drop-dead gorgeous woman in deep trouble.
So guess who’s on a flight to Hawaii?
It’s going to be a long week in paradise. My job is keeping Alex safe, while her job is torturing me with her tiny bikinis. Or maybe we’re torturing each other. It’s all snark and flirting until the threat against Alex gets serious. And this jock must become her major league protector.
Moonlighter is a stand-alone novel. No cliffhangers, no prior experience necessary. Contains: hackers, hockey players, and a hotel room with only one bed.

Sarina Bowen’s Moonlighter (The Company #1) is out of this world. In this story, NHL player, Eric Bayer, is enlisted to help out with his brother’s global security company. He is assigned to pretend to be the boyfriend of his childhood friend, Alex Engels, in order to protect her from her stalker ex-boyfriend. This novel is suitable for adult readers. It takes place in New York and Hawaii.
I adored this story. Moonlighter has a little of everything: romance, drama, humor, action, sports, and corporate espionage. It is an exciting read throughout. It is skillfully written and full of twists. The novel has a lot of things going on. Be warned, this book is hard to put down.
I love the characters. Eric is a veteran hockey player. Alex is a powerful female CEO. They start the story in an awkward situation. They eventually fall back to the ease of their friendship in their youth and act on their attraction to one another. The characters are challenged and grow throughout the story. I love that characters from Sarina Bowen’s Brooklyn Bruisers Series make appearances in this novel. I recommend this book to people that enjoy friends to lovers romance with lots of action. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book.
After devouring MOONLIGHTER, I honestly don’t know whether it’s Alex or Eric I have the biggest crush on. Take Alex, she’s an incredibly successful computer programmer and a leader of industry. Her newest innovation has garnered some unwanted attention and with it attempts of sabotage. Although a huge problem in itself, she actually has a more pressing matter at hand, which she needs dealt with swiftly and discreetly.
Discreet is the motto of Eric Bayer’s family run security company. It’s so discreet intact, it doesn’t have a name. Although Eric is more than happy with his illustrious hockey career he’s been roped in by father and brother to help out on Alex’s case.
There’s history with Alex and Eric. They where thick as thieves in childhood but more recently an awkward brush off is the bone of contention that needs to be picked. Eric’s role of bodyguard has them living and working closely together and it’s not long before their history and familiarity develops into intimacy.
Much like Pavlov’s classical conditioning, the mere mention of Eric’s name causes me to salivate. He’s assertive and playful, but it’s his deep rooted caring nature that has me gaga over the man. MOONLIGHTER is a story that keeps on giving. There’s a sizzlingly romance, action filled scenes along with some heartfelt ouching moments.
I may sound like a broken record when it comes to Sarina but, I seriously enjoyed this one! My new favorite!
Bowen’s has done it again with Moonlighter, the first novel in her brand new series, The Company. Not only was it a joy to read, it felt like going home. Meeting up with some of the hockey players I’d learnt to love in the Brooklyn Bruisers books was a huge plus and very well executed. The new reader won’t be the slightest bit confused either; however, adding them to your to be read list is a must. This stand-alone romance is even more action-packed than ever. Fast-paced and well-researched alarming facts had me on the edge of my seat and I was convinced I knew who was causing so much unrest but get this, I was wrong! Nine times out of ten I’m not, so I’m giving Sarina a kudo for the suspenseful plot twist.
‘If someone—or some nation state—is trying to hack my products, there will be no end to this war.’
How could I not fall for Alex? Sharp-minded, quick-witted and not afraid of a hard day’s work, I really liked the way she treats her employees. She has a great relationship with her dad too, and although she’s the CEO of the firm he’d founded, she’s turned it around and made it one of the most successful and competitive companies in its field. Yet she’s still got to answer to the board of directors who are a tad sceptical about her new venture. Her invention is a real scene-stealer and although it has to be taken seriously, I couldn’t help chuckling to myself in a couple of scenarios which even got me wanting to try it out. You see, it’s a fan-blinking-tastic idea and with all the goings-on in the hacker world, this could just be the answer.
“Bingley, fill me in on the evening’s itinerary.”
“Certainly, my liege!”
Albeit short-lived, Alex and Eric Bayer had become friends as youngsters. So when there’s a misunderstanding years later, she could have hidden under a rock. Fast-forward and they meet up again and well, the sparks of attraction start to ignite. To Alex’s surprise and much to Eric’s chagrin, he’s cajoled into helping out his brother for the summer, making sure that she’s protected from an unknown threat. And ooh boy, do things get complicated at a long weekend conference in all aspects!
‘Women confuse me. They really do.’
Swoon ladies, swoon! Maybe you’ve already have met Eric so you know what he’s like. A tad grumpy, he doesn’t just rub up Alex to the point of frustration, his brother’s also on the receiving end. Max has been asking him to join his security company for ages but hockey Eric’s life. Deadset on getting back on the ice, never did he expect events to take such a turn. Hmm, neither did Alex and here I shall say little else except their love story ticked all my boxes!
‘One does not win an argument with a woman. One simply survives it.’
Moonlighter is simply perfect. Bowen’s character development, secondary included, illuminates a read which deserves all the stars. The banter is out of this world, and plenty of humour, tension and steaminess kept me stuck to the pages from beginning to end without coming up for a breather I cannot wait to see if it’s going to be Max’s turn next because he is the bee’s knees in persona. Bravo!
Moonlighter was such a nice, funny and engrossing read. And and oh my gosh those last few chapters were so sweet,I still have hearts in my eyes.
Alex is the CEO of a telecommunications company ready to launch a new, innovative product. Eric is a hockey player with some health glitch.
They are old friends that haven’t seen each other for years and now they are forced to spend some days together in a wonderful hawaian resort for work. They have a lot of chemistry but they also have a lot of things on their minds that pull them apart.
Will they only enjoy their limited time together or will they give each other a chance forming a lasting relationship?
I fell in love with these characters,I’d like to meet them and be their friend in real life.
This was more than your typical sports romance and I can say that Sarina Bowen is good writing also spy novels.I can’t wait to read next book in the series.
I am completely head over heels for this new series. Moonlighter was a complete page turner loaded charm that Bowen always brings to her books
For anyone that has read the Brooklyn Bruisers series, you’ll be familiar with Eric our MC. I’ve been really excited for his story. I could not get enough of the these two. The forced proximity and circumstances as to why they are together sets up for such fantastic sexual tension and chemistry. There were so many sweet moments with these two. I just loved how Eric was with Alex, he is perfect book boyfriend material. Alex was smart and strong and didn’t fall willingly into the damsel roll. I appreciate strong female MC’s, and I thought she was fantastic.
The plot, pacing and overall feel of this book was really great. I always love a little suspense with my romance because it gives the story an edge that I crave. This was a great start to a series I’m really excited to read more of.
4.5 Stars
I am a huge fan of Sarina Bowen and couldn’t wait to read this book. I really enjoyed Moonlighter, a great start to a new series. I am sucker for sports romances and Moonlighter was just what I needed. I wasn’t expecting romantic expense as well, this book was well written and so good.
Eric is an older hockey player who is a black sheep of his family. He decides to help his brother by being a fake boyfriend to an old friend. Alex is in need of security and from an old boyfriend and Eric is just the guy to help her. One good thing about his job is getting a free trip to Hawaii.
The banter between these characters was perfection. If you are looking for a romance with unexpected turns this is the book for you. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. Must Read!
This book was simply perfection! I fell in love with the story and their characters immediately! it was fun, sexy, flirty and just the right amount of hockey in it!
5 stars!
I love this book so much! Funny and sexy with fantastic banter and chemistry, it’s a great blend of laughs and feels, a beautifully heartfelt friends-to-lovers/fake-romance/sports romance and a clever twist of suspense. It sucked me right in, and I loved these characters and their story.
This book is the first in The Company series, a spin off from the Brooklyn Bruisers series. I think I may be one of the only people on the planet that hasn’t read the Brooklyn Bruisers, and given my love of Sarina’s other books I have no idea why I haven’t read them. I honestly have no excuse, but I’ll definitely be getting on to them now! But rest assured that you don’t have to have read the earlier books in order to follow this one. There is some character crossover, but no real spoilers, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to delve back into this world.
This is the story of NHL player, Eric Bayer. He’s an older member of the team, well liked and respected amongst his team mates, and as much as he loves hockey, he’s looking forward to some down time during the season break Until his brother calls him in to work a job for the ‘family’ business.
“It’s the most successful company that you’ve never heard of.
In contrast, I’ve been a professional athlete for fifteen years. I make seven million dollars a year, and I’m basically the family slacker.”
Eric’s brother and father run a hugely successful, ludicrously wealthy security firm and their latest client is tech billionaire CEO, Alex Engels. Eric and Alex spent a summer together as children, and she now needs somebody with security skills to accompany her to a conference in Hawaii… while acting as her boyfriend. Given their history, Eric is well placed to step into the role, and though it’s the last thing he wants, he figures a week in paradise with a gorgeous woman won’t be too hard to handle.
From the moment these two are together, sparks are flying! There is an obvious attraction between them, and the banter is entertaining and so freaking funny as they get used to being all up in each other’s space.
“Morning.” She blinks at me. Specifically at my abs, I think. “Where are your pajamas?”
“Don’t own any.” I glance down at my boxers. All the important bits are covered. “Does it matter? I could put on my bathing suit instead. It’s more or less the same thing in a brighter color.”
“Right.” She clears her throat. But I don’t miss her eyes making another quick sweep of my body. And I have to hold back a laugh. Could Alex be having a moment of regret? “Um…” She shakes her head once. “Thank you for dealing with the delivery.”
“No problem.” I lift a hand to my chest and stroke a palm down my bare skin.
And, yup, her eyes lock onto my fingers, and she follows my movements like a hungry dog eyes a piece of meat.
How funny is this? Now I’m definitely not putting on a shirt this morning. Not until I absolutely have to. Why ruin the fun?
The chemistry is off the charts as they flirt and tease, and all of that anticipation builds beautifully until they can’t keep away and holy hell, it’s hot! The sexy time is passionate and intense, and it all happens so naturally and feels so right. Though neither of them are in a place where they can do a relationship, so they keep things simple and restricted to the brief time they are away together.
But when the danger threatening Alex becomes more extreme, Eric finds it difficult to walk away, and it seems they may be a whole lot more invested than either of them ever expected to be.
I loved the setup to this story. Eric and Alex’s childhood together created a wonderful bond that became something entirely different once they reconnected as adults. They are honest and completely upfront and everything between them felt so natural and easy, and just sizzled with chemistry, and I honestly loved each and every interaction between them – whether they were bantering, arguing, flirting, getting sweet and thoughtful, their constant playfulness or getting down and dirty. They are gold together, and watching things shift and change for them over the duration of the book was absolutely gorgeous!
The trip to Hawaii is only the beginning Eric and Alex’s story. There are some fantastic surprises and twists that add SO much to the story, and are best discovered as you read. I never knew what to expect, which I loved, and I love that they had individual stories where we got to learn so much about them, but we also got this irresistible romance that I couldn’t get enough of!
I loved Alex as a character. She’s strong, sensible and confident but has a relatable softer side, and she’s a fantastic heroine. And Eric… I’m in love! Smart, funny, sweet and caring, he is protective, slightly arrogant, irresistibly charming and sexy as all hell and just adore him! (view spoiler)
I loved the tie in with Eric’s hockey career, seeing his teammates and the camaraderie there. I also loved the introduction to Eric’s family and The Company. Alex being targeted in a case of deadly industrial espionage adds a really intriguing element to the story, and I loved the excitement and intensity, and the details of the security and tech that forms the suspense part of the storyline. It’s woven in really well as a part of Eric’s story, and I loved the snarky relationship he had with his brother, Max (I’m hoping he’ll get a book at some point!). And as a way to bring Eric and Alex together, the drama and suspense is really well done.
This is such a fantastic read. It has all of the elements of a great romance, with so much more, and it finishes off beautifully, with no cliffhanger and great closure for this couple but definitely more story to be told.
Love, love, loved it. 5 stars!
Moonlighter by Sarina Bowen is book one in her new series called The Company. Moonlighter features two characters readers have met in the Brooklyn Bruisers series.
Eric Bayer has just started his summer vacation break from the Brooklyn Bruisers when his brother and father who own a top secret security company known as “The Company” recruit him for a job. They want him to accompany Alexandria Engel, an old childhood friend, to Hawaii posing as her new boyfriend / bodyguard. She is having issues with a stalker whom they believe is her ex- abusive boyfriend. To top it off she’s three months pregnant from the ex- boyfriend and he hasn’t been made aware of his impending fatherhood. They want Eric with her for extra protection while the company finds out who is behind the threats. Her company is about to launch Bingley, the new, innovative personal cyber assistant.
One week in tropical paradise can change the dynamics in any relationship. Eric and Alex are renewing their friendship and turning it into something more. Once they are back in New York and back to their regular lives and work, they find they are still drawn to one another. Even though the danger has escalated, the pregnancy has become obvious, the ex is still out there unaware, it seems like both of their lives are spiraling out of control.
Eric is aging out of his hockey career and an old knee injury is flaring up and affecting his performance. He has to face the realities of his athletic career. He’s at a turning point in his life. He has to make the hardest choice and athlete ever has to make. When to retire.
Alex and Eric are both ready for something more, they are both ready for real love. They are ready to invest in a committed relationship. They are ready to take the next steps in life and become a family.
I absolutely loved Moonlighter by Sarina Bowen. Moonlighter was a romantic suspense which kept the readers guessing until the end. It dealt with current issues such as cyber crimes and hacking as well as the human elements such as domestic abuse and stalking. In the midst of it all a favorite hockey player and a smart female executive find their happily ever after. The bonus was not only did readers get to meet new interesting characters for upcoming Company books but also got revisit their favorite characters from the Brooklyn Bruisers.
I highly recommend Moonlighter by Sarina Bowen!
Let me get this out of the way: Moonlighter can be read independently of any or all of the Brooklyn Bruisers books. I promise that you won’t feel lost or like there’s something that’s missing if you’re new to Sarina Bowen or are familiar with her work but have yet to get to anything connected with the Brooklyn Bruisers series. So, a quick rundown of the basics of this new series starter: Eric is on break after the team lost game seven of the championships and is asked by his brother, Max, for a favor; Alex is the CEO of Engels Cable Media and requires the services of The Company after she’s physically assaulted by an ex-boyfriend; and Eric and Alex spent one summer together twenty-one years prior. So, what does a hockey player have to do with the crisis a CEO finds herself in? Max catches Eric unaware, which leads him to be Alex’s close-in bodyguard–pretending to be her boyfriend–while attending scheduled events in Hawaii. They’re stuck in each other’s company for a week, with Eric needing to keep Alex safe from her ex, but there’s no one around to keep him safe from doing x-rated stuff with her. But when an unknown threat makes its presence known, the stakes are higher because Eric and Alex are no longer just friends.
There’s a lot more that goes on in the story than just the threat that Alex is facing and Eric being her bodyguard while he’s on break from playing hockey, and I’ve been waffling on whether I should mention those major tidbits or not, but ultimately, I don’t want to spoil the book for anyone who has yet to read it. This is the sort of series starter that needs to be experienced firsthand because I feel it’ll give readers a better appreciation for Eric and Alex’s love story. Now, if you’re familiar with the author’s Brooklyn Bruisers series, you’re going to love seeing those familiar characters that already got their happily-ever-afters. If you have yet to familiarize yourself with the awesomeness that is the Bruisers team, you can totally read them separately from all things The Company. While this new book has its fair share of hockey in it, there’s also some suspense and mystery thrown into the mix. Of course, the romance, sex, humor, and even a bit angst. Eric, in all his grumpiness, was a hoot but he also had a lot of heart, and Alex was someone who managed to surprise me as the story moved forward and her character developed. I’m looking forward to seeing who could be up next in the series–although I do have my suspicions who Max Bayer could be paired with–and I have the highest hopes that the books to come will live up to the standards set by Moonlighter. Sarina Bowen’s done it again, folks, not that I’m all that surprised. This series starter snags five stars.
Eric Bayer is a professional hockey player, to most, that is a pretty spectacular thing, but when your dad and brother run a successful company, some might consider you the slacker in the family. Eric is fine with that, he loves hockey, but when his brother and dad ambush him into helping out a childhood friend, he can’t really say no. What’s a few days in Hawaii in the grand scheme of things? More than Eric thought that’s for sure. You see Alex Engels has grown up and is now a gorgeous woman running a successful company. Will their week in Hawaii be just that, or will things change when they come home?
I have been waiting for Eric Bayer to get a book since we were first introduced to him in the ‘Brooklyn Bruiser’s’ series! He was sort of a mystery to me, the broody, but helpful, older teammate with a dad in security. This book was AMAZING! We get to see a totally different side of Eric in this book, and it made me instantly love him! I love that we got to see his protective side come out, but he is still so snarky too! And Alex, oh my gosh she is incredible! I love that Sarina doesn’t just write about powerful men, the women in her books are just as powerful and they don’t need a man to make them that! I love that she writes about such powerful women, and Alex is one of her most inspiring heroines to date! Well done Sarina, as per usual you nailed this book!
Y’all, this is Sarina Bowen like you have never seen her before.
And it was pretty incredible, in case you were wondering.
Take all the magic of her hockey heroes with hearts of gold and add to it some high tech hacker action, and some pulse pounding suspense and you have this fantastic set-up for a new series, and a sizzling, swoony love story to boot.
I loved everything here – from the bodyguard/fake relationship/friends-to-lovers-esque premise, to the gripping, exciting, and interesting storyline. I loved Eric as the lovable grump, and I loved Alex as the whip smart businesswoman who knocked him on his rear end, and stole his heart right out from under him. Their banter was on point, and their burn sizzled slowly with these bursts of fire that set my pulse pounding in a decidedly different way. They were sexy as all get out, but they also had so much heart. I loved the unconventional friends-to-lovers thing they had going. They were a complete treat to read.
And the ending is one of my favorite things I have read in…I don’t even know how long. After a thrilling, sexy, pulse pounding story – Ms. Bowen gave us a different kind of thrill. Over-the-top in a way that sat just right with my heart. A little bit humorous and a whole lot heartfelt – it was just perfection. I loved it so much – loved literally everything about this story – and cannot wait to see what The Company has in store for us next!
Just when I didn’t think I could love a Sarina Bowen book more, along came Moonlighter. This book is so damn good it hurts. I loved it and you need to read it as soon as you can!
That enough to make you read it? No, well I guess that I must continue.
This is not the usual Brooklyn Bruisers story-line, this one bridges the Bruisers series while kicking off a new one in spectacular fashion. It’s the perfect mix of Bruisers mixed with a dash of intrigue, lots of hot sex, all the feels, more than a few swoon worthy moments and a shot of new characters that will have you glued to the pages.
Are you ready for Bayer and his heroine Alex (yes that Alex for fans of the Bruisers series) to have you laughing, swooning, hot and bothered, melting and awwing on more than one occasion as these two fall and fall hard despite the danger and obstacles in their way.
I’m trying so flipping hard to not give anything away as you need to watch the story unfold as you go, because its another amazingly written story from Sarina Bowen that left me grinning like an idiot after I turned the last page and okay, possibly left my ovaries doing an unexpected sigh at the last chapter. Cheeky of me to leave you hanging, but it’s worth the wait.
All I need to say is this. If you don’t read this book you are missing out. That simple.
Sarina Bowen is back with a new book series called The Company and the first novel, Moonlighter, has just been released. I had a great time reading it and I loved these new heroes and I’m sure Eric and Alex will move you.
Eric Bayer is a professional hockey player but since he is 34 he has to be more careful because old wounds could put a more premature end to his career. He isn’t involved in the family business because hockey is his life but he is going to help the security company of his brother Max and his father Carl. We don’t know much about Max but the little details we have on him makes us want to know more. Eric has a special relationship with his brother because the bickering is often present between but it’s just a proof they love each other and can’t help pranking each other. Using a subterfuge, Max will take advantage of the season break to make Eric take part in a mission. Indeed, they must protect a well-known businesswoman who is about to launch a revolutionary new product on the market and who must also manage an invasive ex who did not understand the meaning of the word “end of relationship”. He will therefore be engaged against his will as the jealous boyfriend of our heroine.
He will take his role very seriously especially since she is not a mere stranger. Indeed, he and Alexandra Engels met when they were only 11 and 13 years old and they were friends. It doesn’t bother him to play this role especially since the chemistry is always present. They came upon each other in the past and I laughed a lot discovering how their reunion took place. The tension will be palpable between them but we wonder if this man who dedicated his life to a sport that has always fascinated him could take the necessary distance and commit himself sentimentally speaking. I loved their interaction because Eric’s character is charming, seductive and very interesting. He feels protective even if he will sometimes be hurt in his ego during some setbacks. Managing feelings and a more uncomfortable injury than others will not be easy, so we hope everything will end well.
Alex Engels is an accomplished businesswoman and she’s only 32. She’s now CEO of the family business but she has yet to prove herself especially with older members who still see her as a kid. She is a determined, passionate young woman who will put all her effort on successfully launching her revolutionary robot. She is obsessed with her work and therefore shares a common trait with our hero: indeed, she will always make her professional life a top priority. She must, however, resolve to ensure her safety in an intense period of her life where she will be more fragile. Not only does she want to avoid having Jared Tatum in her life again, but she also has to negotiate the biggest personal deal of her life. I liked this character because if she seems to show a strong facade in public, in the private sphere, we can see that she seems to have some flaws.
I laughed at her interactions with Eric because as I told you, they knew each other and shared the same jokes. Therefore she will have to apologize for a certain evening but after that, they will be on the same page again. She won’t have to let go of anything and keep her course of action, leaving her happiness aside. Indeed, she doesn’t want to let herself feel the slightest feeling about Eric and the golden parenthesis that they will live in Hawaii may well remain a good memory. We would like her to have someone by her side, who cares about taking care of her and who is with her not by interest but by real desire. She doesn’t have any real friends or she doesn’t have any friends at all and she would need wise advice. Will she be able to leave Eric out of her life? Will she be able to continue to manage everything head-on?
In short, I was completely into this first volume. I entered The Company universe with great pleasure and I can’t wait to find out who the second volume will be about. Sarina Bowen is once again proving her talent by offering us an excellent romantic comedy as we love them with charming and endearing heroes and heroines that we also want to discover more deeply.
Gah! I loved this so much. I read it in one sitting and could not get enough of Eric & Alex.
Moonlighter is the first in a new series called The Company, a spin-off from Brooklyn Bruiser Series. It has everything we have come to love about a Sarina Bowen novel. Humor, suspense and a steamy romance.
The Company is a security firm run by Eric Bayer’s Father and Brother. Eric Bayer is a forward for the NHL hockey team, the Brooklyn Bruisers and is looking forward to a quiet relaxing summer vacation but his plans are thwarted when he gets steam rolled into a a trip to Hawaii to accompany Alex Engels, on a business trip to act as her fake boyfriend.
Alex Engels, is a super successful and highly intelligent CEO of a tech company. She and Eric have known each other since they were young kids and the banter and the witty humor between these two was just the best. Alex finds herself in need of protection from her ex boyfriend and Eric fits that role perfectly.
Eric is the quiet broody type but also extremely protective and loyal to his family. The chemistry between these two is off the charts and as he starts to develop feelings for Alex, he will do anything to keep her safe.
Alex is a fierce, strong female but doesn’t trust her abusive ex and I loved how she wasn’t afraid to ask for help. She is a strong female in a business world surrounded by men and she knows how to go after what she wants unapologetically.
My only complaint is the lack of communication between Eric and Alex after they return from Hawaii. Months go by and neither reach out to the other. I just wanted to scream at them to tell each other how they were feeling!
I loved all the side characters that we were introduced to. Duff, the security guard. Eric’s cousin Anton who is a new rookie for the Bruisers. I especially loved Max, Eric’s brother and his lead investigator, Scout. I really hope these two get a book next because you can just tell there is some major sexual tension going on!
Overall I loved the book and cannot wait for more in this series. 4 stars.
I was so excited to hear that Sarina is writing this new series! Even more When I saw the ARC on my kindle!
We met Eric Bayer in the Bruisers series before (if you’ve read them. If not – hurry, you’re missing out!!) He’s such a nice and great guy. I always liked him a lot.
Through some circumstances he meets up with Alex Engels, childhood friend of his – at his brothers company – and tough as nails CEO of her own company. She needs a companion for a business trip to Hawaii, and what happens when you have a room with just one bed? You get close to each other. Real close!
I loved the banter between Alex and Eric. And how she softens up with him, and him with her. All these little things he does for her, they totally show you how much he’s in love with her. They have great chemistry, and it’s hot and sexy between the sheets!
All in all this is an absolutely fantastic book as a starter for the new series. I’m already excited to read the next book. This book is not only a Sports romance, it also has a lot of suspense in it, and keeps you on the edge!
I received a review copy before release for an honest review.
This was an incredible story and I truly loved it. Its a little different than I am used to with other books by this author but I absolutely loved this story. Its a thriller but also heavy on romance and the author knocked it out of the ball park with this one.
It stars Eric Bayer, he is the NFL goalie for his team the Brooklyn Bruisers and we learn about him a little in Brooklynaire as well. Nate and Becca from Brooklynaire are heavily involved in this story as Nate is good friends with Alexis, the female lead in this story. He and Alexis had a drunken night and in that book she didn’t know if Nate was the daddy to be or her ex boyfriend was. It was discovered that it was her ex and in this story we get to meet her and her ex, Jared and we learn her full story and the connection she holds to Eric and the Bayer family.
Alexis is incharge of a company and she has an electronic butler she wants to introduce to the world. Added to that is she is pregnant and her ex hit her, so she has some protection from the Bayer family. That is how we meet Max, he is charge of her protection and Max asks Eric who is not busy during the off season to go along with her to Hawaii to protect her from the ex who will be at a conference as well.
Eric and Alexis when they were kids were very good friends but they had not seen each other in 21 years until Max asks him to protect her. The two get to know each other and they discover someone that someone is after Alexis but they have no idea who and what and so starts the thriller aspect of this story.
It is well written with characters I love and also we get to see our old friends from the Brooklyn Bruisers as we start a new series about The Company which is the protection agency run by Max and his father. This story has it all – romance, adventure and hijinks and even murder. It was a wonderfully written and thrilling story that I beyond loved.
The Swoon Factor is strong with this one
I honestly don’t know what to say about this book because “amazing” or “really freaking awesome” don’t make it justice. It’s intense, romantic, steamy, hilarious, and so heartwarming that it literally leaves you breathless. It makes you feel so many different things at once. It’s hockey with a twist of suspense. And the swoon factor is off the charts.
Sarina Bowen has the uncanny ability to outdo herself every single time she writes a new book. In theory, it doesn’t really surprise me because she’s got some very wicked writing skills. But the truth is that it does surprise me. She just leaves me in awe of her talent. Every. Single. Time. I love how gorgeous her writing is. How she develops not only the story, but her characters. I love how real they feel, their hidden depths and flaws, and how they evolve as the story progresses. Her narrative is easy to read and it flows naturally. She makes it look so simple, and that’s her genius on display, because it can’t possibly be easy to do. I especially appreciate how witty she is, how skillfully she weaves humor into her writing without making them comedies. She’s known for making people cry and laugh at the same time, and I really love that about her.
Moonlighter is book one of The Company, a new series that is actually a spin-off of her Brooklyn Bruisers series. It is a complete standalone, so you really don’t need to read any other book to enjoy this one to the fullest. Having said that, if you haven’t read the Brooklyn Bruisers series, trust me on this, you have to. It’s phenomenal. We first met Alex Engels in Brooklynaire, and Eric Bayer has been a member of the Brooklyn Bruisers team since Rookie Move, but he’s been mostly in the background until Overnight Sensation.
Moonlighter is a perfect combination of old and new. We get to hang out with old favorites like Nate, Becca and Bingley, and at the same time we are introduced to a whole new cast of characters that will hopefully get their own stories. I’m crossing all my fingers here. We get introduced Max, Gunnar, Pieter, and Scout. Max Bayer is Eric’s older brother and the director of The Company, a security agency with no known name. The name is need-to-know only, so we’ll hopefully find out more about it soon. I found him to be the most interesting of the new guys. I honestly can’t wait to read more about him and his secret past. It’s so intriguing!
Alex and Eric were childhood friends who lost contact for over twenty-one years, and who due to an awkward reunion, find themselves at odds for a while. But her circumstances and his chivalry put them in close quarters together, sharing a bed in Hawaii and pretending to be a couple. The attraction is mutual and resisting each other turns their interactions into a sort of battle of wills. The fact is that they find themselves at a crossroads in their lives, facing changes they’re not ready for, and that makes their relationship more of a challenge. But when danger seems to keep following Alex, Eric takes the role of her protector again, willingly this time, and makes it his mission to keep her safe and convince her that they belong together.
I loved their interactions since the beginning. The witty banter, the teasing, the heat and sincere affection between them, their chemistry. Everything. I must confess that Eric Bayer caught me off guard. He is without a doubt one of the swooniest, most adorable book boyfriends I have ever come across. OMG! The guy is so smooth and sweet! I wasn’t expecting that level of awesomeness from him. For a growly and grumpy set-on-his-way athlete, he sure knows how to be charming. He’s definitely a keeper.
Moonlighter is basically the same greatness Sarina Bowen usually delivers, but with a different feel. It’s unique and outstanding, a real pleasure to read. I loved it from start to finish, but even though I didn’t want it to ever end, the ending was my favorite part of the story. It brought tear to my eyes. The happiest of tears. It is heart-meltingly beautiful. Five stars fall short with this one.
Eric Bauer is in the house! Yes, this is Eric from the Brooklyn Bruisers hockey team featured in a new spin-off series by one of my go to, drop everything authors, Sarina Bowen.
In this new series, The Company is the ultra secret, high tech security firm run by the Bayer family – Eric’s brother Max and father Carl to be exact. It is so secretive, that Eric doesn’t even know the exact name of the firm; they only refer to it as “the company.”
In this release, hockey is a secondary character. Eric is on hiatus from the team, before the start of the season and finds himself being conned into working for his brother. He is to pose as the new, super jealous boyfriend to CEO and media mogul Alex Engles – who also happens to be a longtime family friend.
Eric and Alex have history. And Alex has a secret. It is a well written, highly entertaining work of romantic fiction. I love Sarina’s stories, and her character building. Moonlighter and The Company series will continue to build upon that.
O.M.G. I don’t think I have enough words to express just how much I loved Moonlighter. It hit all the high notes of favorites for me: sports romance, romantic suspense, second chance romance, fake girlfriend/boyfriend, secret baby. And I loved every word.
Eric and Alex have such amazing chemistry. Their every interaction is fun, smart, sexy, poignant. I loved how Alex never quite let Eric get too full of himself. And I loved how Eric grounded Alex in the here and now. Their relationship totally worked for me—even when it wasn’t quite working for them! I knew they’d get it together somehow.
I also loved The Company and all the secrecy, code speak, veiled surveillance, alpha males and females—looking right at you, Scout, you total badass!—doing what’s necessary by any means to protect those who’ve hired their services as well as those they love.
Moonlighter may be a spin-off from the fantastic Brooklyn series, but it’s a complete stand-alone, and I cannot wait for more from The Company!
