Five nights. Two adversaries. Only one bed in their hotel room.
I’m at the height of my athletic career. Yet my arrogant brother is always trying to recruit me into the family business: a global security company so secretive that I don’t even know its name. Pass, thanks. I don’t need a summer job. But the jerk ambushes me with a damsel in distress. That damsel is Alex, the competitive, sassy … Alex, the competitive, sassy girl I knew when we were kids. Now she’s a drop-dead gorgeous woman in deep trouble.
So guess who’s on a flight to Hawaii?
It’s going to be a long week in paradise. My job is keeping Alex safe, while her job is torturing me with her tiny bikinis. Or maybe we’re torturing each other. It’s all snark and flirting until the threat against Alex gets serious. And this jock must become her major league protector.
Moonlighter is a stand-alone novel. No cliffhangers, no prior experience necessary. Contains: hackers, hockey players, and a hotel room with only one bed.

Sarina Bowen has such an amazing skill! Another wonderful read that includes the beloved Brooklyn Bruisers that we all love in a new series. I LOVE how she keeps the characters from the past and evolve them into a new world of amazing storytelling!
Eric Bayer and Alex Engles have been bumping around the Bruiser’s series and they come together in this hot new read. They knew each other one summer as young teens and come back together when Eric’s team owner, Nate, makes a deal with Alex over their teams making the playoff (Brooklynaire). They are reunited when Eric’s family business, a private security firm, send him to Hawaii to protect Alex and her during a conference. Their “fake relationship” takes a turn for the real side as they take it to the sheets. Alex’s secret pregnancy doesn’t scare off Eric but when they return home early due to a medical scare, Alex shove’s him away, back to hockey. When another threat arises and Eric is brought back into the fold to protect Alex, reluctant sparks reignite their romance and their bond becomes the love that will keep them together even through the major threat to Alex’s life and her company’s well being.
Another well written and extremely steamy, exciting and fast-paced look at the world of cybercrime, hockey, red sleds, female independence and finding love!
I thought that Sarina Bowen’s Griff Shipley was my book husband. Griff and I have been together many years. Then here comes Eric Bayer and… swoon. He’s such a good man, trying to be a good human. Sexy, steamy, and tugging on all of my heartstrings, I love Moonlighter.
Sarina delivered more than what I was expecting. She nailed the grump hockey player, the smart and independent woman, and a whole company read to take down whoever is terrorizing said woman. It was hot, it had action-packed scenes, it was fun, giggly, swoon-worthy, it got my adrenaline going and my heart racing!
It’s the most successful company you’ve never heard of.
Alex, a childhood friend of Eric’s, needs protection, and who better to be the bodyguard and fit the boyfriend role than Eric Bayer. He does not want this at all, but he doesn’t have much of a choice. Off they go to Hawaii where there’s only one bed in their room to share and tensions are running high!
“She definitely notices when my flag is hoisted. I mean, it’s hard to hide this kickstand when the bike is in gear.”
Eric was ever the gentleman with Alex. He treated her like a queen. All the food he gave her, like yes! Food is the way to my heart! The attention, the care, the admiration he had for her was palpable and shining through every page.
No man has ever overwhelmed me like Hurricane Eric. That was a Category 5 experience.
Alex is the independent woman I was looking forward to reading. She’s strong, knows what she wants, has worked hard to become the CEO of a company, knows the technology world like she knows how to breathe. She stands up for herself and leaves men jaw-slacked in her wake. She’s full of the snark that I was here for!
“Alexandra,” the twit says as he approaches. “Long time no see.”
“That was intentional,” she says, taking a sip of her drink.
The chemistry is absolutely there. And the maturity these characters exerted was refreshing. My problem with this novel was that I was expecting suspense, which was there, but not enough. And we were kind of left hanging in the resolve of the story. I’m seriously hoping the author continues this part of the story in another book because we can’t be left like this.
Overall, Moonlighter was a beautiful and fun start to the spin-off of the spin-off. You see characters from the other series, which I thought was great. I can’t wait to read more from this series! I need a book for Max and Scout! I felt something there and I’m not letting it go!
Moonlighter by Sarina Bowen is the first book in her new series, The Company, and features a hunky hockey player and a damsel in distress. Alex was full of sass and smart. Eric is strong and determined. He wants nothing to do with his family business, but when an old friend needs help, he is ready to protect. Now the sparks are flying and danger surrounds them. This book was a bit different than the sports romances I have read from this author and I loved reading every minute of it and can’t wait to read more!
Happy reading!
The blurb about this book intrigued me so I thought I’d try it, and I’m glad I did! Alex and Eric are both likeable, and the side characters are interesting. There’s a heartwarming romance mixed with enough intrigue and danger to make things interesting. I’m off to see if the next book is available yet because I want to read more!
This was just what I needed! I wanted a sexy, feel-good romance with wonderful characters and an abundance of chemistry and that is exactly what I got. I only discovered Sarina Bowen less than two years ago and I have read all of her books yet but I have read quite a few. I have yet to be disappointed. There is just something about the way she tells a story that works for me so I was really excited to read this new book and I ended up enjoying every moment of it.
Eric and Alex were childhood friends. They spent time together while their fathers were working. Eric always seemed to follow Alex’s lead. Many years later, Eric plays hockey professionally while Alex is running a large company. When Alex needs security, she turns to Eric’s brother, Max, and before she knows it she is headed off to Hawaii for a conference with a fake boyfriend in tow.
I loved these two together. Eric was funny and playful with Alex and it seemed to be exactly what she needed. Alex is under a lot of stress but she seems to let go with Eric. They both know that it can’t last but they can’t seem to resist each other. They are really good for each other being what each other needed in so many different circumstances.
I would highly recommend this book to others. This was a really well-done story filled with some really wonderful heartfelt moments, a mystery that kept me guessing, some toe-curling sexy scenes and a few laughs. I cannot wait to read more of this talented author’s work.
I received a digital review copy of this book from the author/publicist.
Eric Bayer has a character I wanted to read about, his closed off demeanor had me intrigued. Eric meeting Alex was a perfect combo, all the banter, thee fake relationship, bodyguard story behind everything made this story a great one. This new series will become one of my favorite ones, as all of the previous ones, Sarina Bowen just knows how to get me in. Great five star and can’t wait for the next one.
I am a fan of Sarina Bowen, and I love her Brooklyn, True North and Man Hands series. She has an amazing ability to write great works in many different romance characters – intrigue, comedy, sports, a little angst, etc. This book combines them all in such a great way.
Eric Bayer is a familiar character to those of us that have read the previous Brooklyn Bruisers novels. From a timing perspective, this one takes place before Overnight Sensation and Superfan, but you don’t need to worry about that in terms of reading order since the events don’t really overlap. The Eric Bayer that we see in this novel is romantic, protective, funny, self-deprecating and charming as heck. Alex is one seriously strong female lead, and he’s a great match for Bayer. She takes his ego down a peg when needed, and she can definitely hold her own in the one-liner/zing department.
I love reading how these two characters get together, how they surpass each other’s expectations, how they lift each other up, how they are there for each other when needed. The inner monologue of each of these characters is so funny, too, right from the first page of the book. And the humor doesn’t slow down or disappear, either – it is a constant throughout the book.
And true to Sarina Bowen’s other works, the supporting characters are amazing. They highlight and lift the main characters and plot without distracting, and you are so invested in them that you want to know if they will have their own books in the future, and you’re happy to revisit your favorites from prior books.
This is a great start to a new series for Sarina Bowen. I’m looking forward to reading more in the The Company series for sure.
Audio: the narration of this book is great! Jason Clarke is a fantastic Eric Bayer, and Lucy Rivers is a great Alex. Some of the best narration out there.
Sarina Bowen does it again with book one in her brand new The Company series. Fans of her Brooklyn Bruisers books will recognize Eric Bayer as a player on the team. Though the character appears in other books, Moonlighter can be read as a standalone.
Max, Eric’s brother, convinces him to take a job with the family company providing protection and a fake relationship for his childhood friend Alexandra.
I really liked Alex. She is smart, driven, and the CEO of her company. She needs help but is awesome in her own right too. It was fun watching her reconnect with Eric and their chemistry and banter were fantastic.
Just as with the other Sarina Bowen books I have read the writing is engaging and the plot well paced. I cannot wait to see more from this new series!
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
Wow. This book is so good, I couldn’t stop reading till it was over and I kind of had no choice. It has everything I like reading… humour, romance, mystery, car chases and action, great characters, a baby…. it is amazing how well Sarina Bowen has taken these elements and brought them together in this well paced, well written story that keeps you hooked. And yes, if you haven’t read any of her other books, you can just pick this up because it’ll still make sense.
If you have read the Brooklyn bruisers books, it’s great fun meeting all your fav characters again. In fact, we’ve met Alex and Bayer before… and Alex was definitely not my fav back then. But this book gives a much better look at who she is as a person, and makes her so relatable, and also kind of impressive to be honest. And Eric Bayer is beyond awesome. He’s funny and hot and smart and silly. The photo from when they were kids is a great touch. The scene when Alex wants to put up shelves on her own is an excellent one. The way they get to the hospital is so good, I could picture it happening.
Once again, the intersection of different players and their stories made this extra fun. And I’m definitely interested in Max and scout, and The Company (I love the description of that office!)
This is the first book in a new series by Sarina Bowen, with connections to the Brooklyn Bruisers series. I always look forward to more from this author and in this case I cannot wait for future stories in The Company. What an awesome cast of characters, something Sarina Bowen always does well and makes me love her writing even more. Eric was a terrific, funny, loyal hero. These two together just worked – as friends, as a couple, great chemistry. As you can tell, I liked everything about this book. Whether you are a longtime Sarina Bowen reader, or new to her books, I recommend this one!
4.5 Stars
Moonlighter, is the first title in Sarina Bowen’s new series titled The Company, and after this installment I can’t wait for more!
A friends to lovers romance that starts as a simple favour for an old friend ends up being so much more.
Eric is an NHL player, he’s flirty, fun, successful, determined, and driven. He’s kind of cocky, and can be a tad taciturn but he also has a really big heart.
Alex is sassy, feisty, strong, successful and highly intelligent. She’s a successful CEO, a woman in a man’s world that has made for an incredibly independent woman.
Many previous favourite characters from the Brooklyn Bruisers series make an appearance, plus many new faces are introduced who I can’t wait to discover more of.
The banter between Alex and Eric is fun and flirtatious, and the steamy scenes between this pair will have you fanning your face! Their chemistry is undeniable and overall their story is incredibly entertaining and engaging read.
Sarina has knocked it out of the park with this start to this new series.
Its a spin-off from the Brooklyn Bruisers as Eric is an aging hockey player who has moved away from his ambitious family but has now been sucked into helping his brother with ‘The Company’. All he has to do is be a fake boyfriend to an old family friend, what could possibly go wrong, or really right 😉
I loved Eric, he was sweet and funny, with brilliant banter. Alex is sexy, smart and I loved her dead pan humour. The connection between them is hot and undeniable, the back and forth between them was addictive.
If your looking for a sexy, captivating read mixed with some suspense then this is the one for you and I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series.
Moonlighter is Sarina Bowen’s newest sexy, funny and exciting romance. It can be read as a standalone, but if you’ve read Brooklynaire (and the Brooklyn Bruisers series) you will know Alex and Eric. Eric plays hockey for Brooklyn. He’s sexy, funny, cocky and sweet. His brother needs his help with a security job but he isn’t looking for a job. But when he finds out it’s for Alex, a girl he spent a summer with when they were kids, he can’t say no. That’s how he finds himself in Hawaii pretending to be her boyfriend. Sharing her bed and trying to keep his hands off her luscious curves. Alex is a one woman show. She runs a company and it determined to make her mark. But when someone starts threatening her, she can’t not ask for help. Now she’s trapped with Eric and he isn’t making it easy to stay away. Walking around without a shirt. Being nice and kind. How dare he! When the pretending becomes real, one kiss turns into so much more! It looks like Alex might need protection for longer than a week and Eric is just the man for the job. His feelings start to be more than friendly and he doesn’t know what to do with that. So, tequila, declarations, tacos, pie, and feeding his woman are on his list of things to do. I loved this story! So much! Man, I missed these hockey players and I been dying to know what was going to happen to Alex! She’s is so fantastic! Independent, smart, sexy and knows what she wants. Eric is so dreamy! Yes, he’s strong, sexy and talented, but the soft gooey side is to die for. I was swooning all over the place. Overall, this had all my favorites things! Hockey, sexiness, suspense, sexy security men, humor, lust and tacos.
I’m extremely excited for this new series and I can’t wait to see who’s next?
Sarina Bowen is always surprising us with such good books! Her writting is witt and it is always edgy. Eric Bayer was first the hockey player “Bayer” in the Brooklyn Bruisers book, we did not even know his first name! Now, we get to know his in this spin-off around Eric’s family security company, that no one knows exactly the name and called “The Company”.
Eric is in a summer break from the team and has pretty serious decisions to make around his professional hockey life but a lunch taco call from his father changes everything! He is in detail security for Alex (you have read her in Brookylionaire!), at some point in their teen lifes they spent a summer together and now twenty years later he is in charge of her security and she has secrets of her own…
The book is fun, emotional, secretive and overall a wonderful reading that you will not put it away until you finish. I have read it twice!
Enjoy!!
Great start!!! Eric and Alex were childhood friends that hadn’t seen each other in years. Until Eric was contracted by his father and brother to help out Alex. She’s no damsel in distress but she needed his help. He pretended to be her boyfriend but boy was the chemistry off the roof with these two. There was a bit of everything in this story but the way these two were with each other made for a good read. Alex was an independent heroine that wasn’t a doormat and it was refreshing to read. Eric was amazing and the perfect partner for Alex.
This was a wonderful first book in the new ‘The Company’ series, but with many familiar characters from the Brooklyn Bruisers series.
Eric is a cocky hockey player that gets roped into playing boyfriend/bodyguard for an old family friend. Alex (Alexandria) is a no nonsense, self sufficient, bossy CEO that needs help during a transition time in her life. They both learn that being on their own isn’t as great as being together.
This book is a contemporary romance, with a little comedy thrown in. Eric’s inner monologue had me chuckling throughout the book.
This book includes hockey players, bad ass female heroines, espionage, hackers, unexpected life changes, and to me, fits into a ‘smart romance’ category. You’re left learning something new, and gives you a new way of how you view something – aka technology in this case.
Excellent book and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series!
5 plus stars
Romantic suspense with a side of steam, great entertaining banter and amazing characters made this story an absolute pleasure to read!
Alex and Eric have found a place in my heart and I loved everything about them! The suspense had my heart all a thumping and I wondered in which direction the story would go! Its a definite must read in my opinion and if this is how the first book of the series will be, no doubt we have some great writing to look forward to!
Hands down an absolute favorite of 2019!!
When Sarina Bowen blows it out of the park, she does it with a BANG!
This story was fun and sexy with great characters, a lot of shenanigans and a bit of suspense thrown in the mix! It’s so great to read these types of stories that are full on entertainment from page one! Both Eric and Alex will entertain you with their banter, sarcasm and sass. Equally so for both of them. Ridiculous fun people. One-click immediately. PLUS, it’s the beginning of a new series and we meet some of the characters that will hopefully also get a story and I’m already totally hooked!
4 stars. This is a good book! Moonlighter is the first book in the new series, The Company, by Sarina Bowen. It focuses on Alex and Eric’s story. The two were friends as kids but lost touch as they grew up. Now, Alex is a mega rich CEO of her own company and Eric is a pro hockey player. When they meet again at a party as adults, embarrassingly for them both, Alex does not recognize him and the encounter ends badly. In her defense, she is going through a stressful, hard time. She recently left an abusive relationship and found out she is pregnant. Eric’s father and brother run a very successful, exclusive security firm of which Alex is a client. She hires them as protection against her ex and to help her get him to sign over his rights to her unborn child. Eric’s father enlists his help to pose as Alex’s boyfriend to the public and to attend a big convention in Hawaii as her protection. As the two spend time together, they find they still have a bond from their childhood. They also have great chemistry and an attraction as adults. The two spend time together and fall in love, while dealing with her ex, business industry drama and his hockey injury.
This story was really good. I really liked both Alex and Eric. She was smart, strong and powerful in business, but not bitchy or cold. She showed her vulnerability and could be herself with Eric. He was hot, sweet and loving with her. I found it unique in that Alex was pregnant with another man’s child, but that didn’t really much factor in to her burgeoning relationship with Eric. There wasn’t a ton of focus on the pregnancy, it affect her relationship, or her worry about it. I wanted a little more clarity on how it was going to work with the baby. Was Eric going to be it’s dad and be called Dad, etc.? Also, I needed more closure and resolution in general. I wanted more discussion about marriage and their future. I would have loved an epilogue. Still, I liked the story and writing a lot. I loved the security company/suspense/action/mystery aspect combined with hockey, too.
Overall, Moonlighter was a good book. I really liked Alex and Eric together and felt the love between them. This series set up seems really fun and different. I look forward to more from this series and Ms. Bowen in the future!
