New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout delivers the unforgettable story of a woman whose new life has just begun—but may end in murder . . . Julia Hughes has always played it safe until she learned a very painful lesson. Now Julia’s starting over with a job in the Louisiana bayou—and a scorching encounter with a stranger, only to discover he’s Lucian de Vincent . . . her new … Lucian de Vincent . . . her new employer. The de Vincent brothers share a massive fortune and a dark reputation. Julia cares for their troubled sister, but a menacing presence in the mansion—and the ever-present temptation of Lucian—prove dangerously distracting.
Lucian’s grandmother claimed de Vincent men fall in love once—and hard. Apparently, it’s Lucian’s turn. Julia’s compassionate care of his twin makes Lucian want to lay himself bare. But some secrets are better for Julia not to know.
The recent “suicide” of Lucian’s father is the latest in a string of deaths on the estate. Someone is eliminating the de Vincents. And the best way to get to Lucian may be through Julia. . . .

“Their great-great-grandmother once claimed that when the de Vincent men fell in love, they did so fast and hard, without reason or hesitation.”
Do you ever have those books that you go into reading it without knowing what it’s about? That’s how this book was for me. All I knew is that Jennifer Armentrout wrote it, so I was going to read it. What all of that means is that I didn’t know this was a romantic thriller, which while I do like, I don’t read a lot of. Of course, with this being a JLA book, I didn’t worry about whether I was going to like it or not, and I’m happy to say that Armentrout did not disappoint me.
We start the book meeting the de Vincent brothers after their missing sister, Maddie, has reappeared but with some unknown health problems. Enter Julia, who takes a job as an in home nurse to Maddie, without knowing the family she is actually going to be working for or what she’s going to be getting herself into.
This was a really interesting book and a departure from what JLA usually writes. The story takes you for a ride and I was here for every minute of it. I enjoyed getting to know Lucian and Julia and I especially liked seeing Julia come into her own, stand up for herself, and fight for what she wants. Also, I cannot wait to read the other books and learn more about Gabe and Devlin. Was this the best book that Armentrout has written? No, but it’s still a great book and if romantic thriller books are your cup of tea, then I highly recommend that you check this one out.
“I’m not just screwed up, Ms. Hughes. I’m as broken as they come, but I don’t need to be fixed. I don’t want to be fixed. I like all my fucked-up shards and pieces. They make me who I am. They make me real. The question is, can you handle real?”

: Moonlight Sins
: de Vincent #1
: Jennifer L. Armentrout
: 4.5/5
I really enjoyed this book a lot. It was just a bit too scary at times for me. I am not big on horror movies or anything like that, and a couple of moments in this book felt “scary”, hearing strange footsteps and stuff. For me something is scary pretty quickly so, I think it will probably be different for others. I really like the romance between Julia and Lucian, there were also a lot of sexy times. What I liked best was the mystery/suspense in this story. I was really captivated by the story and I think at times I was more intrigued by the mystery than the romance. I liked the fact that we also got to know the other brothers a bit and I am looking forward to their stories. Overall, a great book with romance, steam, mystery and suspense.

Loved this bad boy player falls hard for a smart, curvy nurse. Action packed with an overarching storyline about their haunted house, cursed family, and 3 brothers determined to protect the family’s reputation as others come after them to take them down. Such a great book. I devoured it and can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
I needed a cold shower after this book. Lucian is my new favorite book boyfriend. He’s a hot, dirty talking, alpha male with a dark past and a messed up family. This book was the perfect blend of romance and mystery/suspense. Just be prepared to have a hard time putting it down for important stuff, like, you know, sleeping and eating.
I seriously think that Jennifer can write books of every genre you can think of if she put her mind to it. I don’t think that lady is capable of disappointing me.
Moonlight Sins was dark, sexy, suspenseful and mysterious. It follows one of the three de Vincent brothers, Lucian, and the new nurse, Julia, the brothers have hired to take care of their sister that has appeared after she has magically disappeared 10 years prior. We do not know what has happened to Maddie but she seems to be suffering from something psychological.
The first time that Julia and Lucian met it was under false pretenses which has made Julia wary of Lucian at the beginning. Lucian, however, can be very persistent and he did not make it easy for Julia to avoid him. I liked Julia, she was brave, kind and nurturing but sometimes I wished she stopped being so standoffish with Lucian and started being a little more reckless. Lucian on the other hand is one hell of a dirty talking and sinfully sexy individual who is not afraid to say what is on his mind, but beyond his witty, playful remarks and don’t-care attitude lies a man who feels deeply and would do anything for those closest to him. While being de Vincent comes with a lot of advantages, it did not give neither of the three de Vincent brothers the one thing that they all desperately wanted, love.
There are a lot of secrets revolving around de Vincent family. Some say that the family is cursed and that the house they live in is haunted. Throughout the book there are weird noises, strange apparition and some accidents that can’t be ruled out as simple coincidences. I was left wondering just what the hell is going on, with a lot of things not adding up. A lot of it is explained by the end of the book but I think that there is more to Lawrence’s “suicide” than it appears. I hope we find out what truly happened by the end of de Vincent series.
I am also very curious about Lucian’s brothers, Devlin and Gabriel. There are things that haven’t been explained and I cannot wait to read their stories to shed some light on those situations. Devlin especially is an enigma and I cannot wait to learn what happened between Gabriel and his ex-girlfriend. I need some answers!
I currently live in rural Louisiana and I just love the New Orleans accent this series showcases in the audiobook.
As for the series, it’s not my favorite Jennifer L. Armentrout series, but I loved it all the same!
Lucien was awesome. Julia was awesome. The romance was awesome.
Oh boy. I can honestly say that Moonlight Sins was not at all what I was expecting. Going into it, I was intrigued by the premise and wooed by the promise of another stunning Jennifer L. Armentrout novel. I have read several of Armentrout’s YA novels and truly enjoyed them, so when I saw the de Vincent trilogy at my library I figured I’d give it a shot. Again, it wasn’t really what I expected. That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy the book – I did – just not as much as I hoped to.
The first book in the de Vincent series centers around the family’s youngest brother, Lucian, whom the tabloids have not-so-affectionately nicknamed Lucifer. He’s an all-around major player and a jerk to boot. Enter Julia, a nurse who is uncharacteristically looking for a new adventure and finds it in the form of in-patient care for the de Vincent’s sister who has mysteriously reappeared after vanishing into thin air ten years ago.
This honestly read to me like a murder-mystery with a dash of romance and a sprinkling of paranormal. Although Julia and Lucian’s relationship continues to develop throughout the course of the book, the book itself seemed to focus pretty heavily on the strange and often unsettling goings-on in the de Vincent mansion. I can say that the presence of such an interesting mystery did keep me invested in the book and eager to see where the remaining two books of the series would go. Julia and Lucian’s relationship could definitely be classified as a “slow burn” and that made it a little hard for me to push through. I appreciated the plot twist but was also anticipating it, so it didn’t feel as much like a big reveal as it did a natural conclusion.
In the end, although the HEA felt a little rushed and the plot twist slightly anticlimactic, I really did enjoy the book and the look into the de Vincent’s messy family dynamic. I’m definitely hooked enough that I want to see how the series concludes.
A steamy contemporary romance with suspenseful Gothic flavor. I definitely will read more of this series.
I decided to go ahead and read this one for two reasons. For one thing, the third book in the series was coming out and so it made me remember I had this copy. For the second, I decided to put it as one of my books to read for a challenge I did in February. As with every JLA book, once I picked it up, I couldn’t put it down. First there was the Taylor guy that she had the awesome one night stand with at the beginning, and then when we found out who he was. Then, Lucian, kinda love him. But I couldn’t decide if Gabe was being serious or just trying to make Lucian jealous. There were a lot of twists and turns at the end, and some people that weren’t what you’d thought. It was a great read, and I can’t wait to read on in the series, very interested in Gabe’s story!
I really enjoyed reading “Moonlight Sins” up until the moment all puzzle pieces came together. I couldn’t give it a higher rating because I am a bit disappointed with the final conclusion to the story.
I really love the romance side of the story, but I have to admit that it was the mystery side of it that kept me going. I just needed to know what happened to Maddie and what was going on in the house. I was creeped out on several occasions throughout the story. I guess I’m not a big fan of huge old mansions and all their scary sounds.
I also want to add that it bothered me that the story is written in third person (I’m used to reading first person), but after a while I didn’t mind it anymore. The writing is really good and I love the character of Julia.
I’ll definitely pick up the next book in this series. I’m hooked now.
Oh my. Moonlight Sins had me feeling a little iffy when I first started reading, but I’m so glad I held on and stuck with this book because I ended up really enjoying it.
I honestly loved Lucien and Julia. I love how JLA added so many layers to his character. She built up the danger and mystery around this family so well. It was clear that this family could do whatever they wanted and were willing to go to any lengths for the sake of their family. But at the same time it was so great seeing the way Lucien was with Julia. He never tried to hide who he was and bad things he had done and was willing to do with Julia. Lucien was a pretty funny, always having a quip to shoot at Julia, while also never holding back on the things he wanted to say to her. And oh my goodness the hot as hell chemistry between them was so hot. Lucien never rushed anything with her and that hot slow kind of burn was amazing. Julia was also very lovable. She accepted Lucien for who he was and was very supportive of the things that happened in his past and the secrets surrounding his family.
I was very surprised at how much I loved the mystery in this story. It was exciting and I was very curious to know what the hell was going on. I think JLA did an excellent job building this up and I was pleasantly surprised when everything gets revealed. I had some suspicions going on, but I did not expect that ending. Very well done.
All in all I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed Moonlight Sins. It was sexy, fun, and mysterious. I love the de Vincent family and can’t wait to read about the rest of the family.
What. The actual. F*ck. This book is I-N-S-A-N-I-T-Y. I’m pretty sure Armentrout took every episode of Maury Povich and shoved them all into a 400 page book. But I’ll be damned if I didn’t somehow end up loving this???
I don’t even know who I am anymore.
All I know is, this book is filled to brim with DRAMA and I am 100% here for it. There are kidnappings, murders, forbidden love, illegitimate children, comas, suicides, ghosts, and so much more. You guys don’t even know. My head is still spinning and I need a drink. Don’t let the low key beginning of the book fool you because the ending of this thing packs a punch.
And all of this may sound cliche and ridiculous, which it absolutely is, but Armentrout is a genius because I am HOOKED. I gotta keep reading these books to solve the mysteries and find out who the killer is. I JUST HAVE TO.
↬ FINAL WORD
Do you love soap operas and telenovelas? Do you live for the outrageous drama in reality tv?? Then DANG are these books for you.
I love spooky ghost story. I really thought this was going to be like one. Plus this was one book I have been dying to get my hands on.
Very entertaining book. It lived up to what I hoping it to begin
Julie is a divorced nurse who has taken a job in Louisiana. She meets a handsome stranger and he takes her home. When she arrives in Louisiana, the man she meet is one of her bosses. Lucian is rich, handsome and never stays with a woman for more than a night. The night she arrives, his father is found hung in his study. He is attracted to Julie but she is there to oversee the care of Lucian’s twin sister. Strange things are happening in the house and unless they are careful, one of them could end up dead.
I know this is short but I didn’t want to give too much away. Sexy, suspenseful, and a family that seems to be cursed. I absolutely loved this book! It will give you chills and leaving you thinking ‘ OMG ‘. I could not put it down. I will definitely have to read about the next brother.
* I voluntarily read and reviewed this after receiving a free copy through Bookfunnel*
This was an insanely sexy and steamy read that would have been a five star for me if it hadn’t been so slow, I mean really slow going. I almost stopped reading at a point but I was given this to read as an ARC so I finished it and glad I did. Julia is a nurse and hired as a live-in and on the night before she is to leave for Louisana her friends take her out and she meets a hot stranger and decides to thrown caution to the wind and take him home, after all she will never see him again. At least that is what she thinks. That is until she arrives at her job and meets the family and it turns out to be the deVincent family, one of the wealthiest family in New Orleans and her stranger is the youngest brother, the twin of the woman she is going to be taking care of. Now she is feeling like she was taken for a fool when all Lucian wanted to do was meet her but he has fallen for her. It takes most of the book and lots of twists to get to a climax. SLOW going. I hope the rest of the series picks up.
I had no idea where that was going from the beginning. I even fought with my gut on where it might have been going but I honestly never expected the full depth of the holy @#!+ wow factor.
Moonlight Sins is only the beginning. Taylor is the start of something both decadent and irresistible. No mortal would ever be able to resist all that this man is. I fell and I fell hard. Julia wasn’t able to resist either. But don’t worry, this is just the beginning of trouble with the de Vincents.
I never thought I’d see the day that Jennifer L. Armentrout wrote a book worth less than four stars. Sadly that book has come and it is called Moonlight Sins.
This book had all the right elements to be a story with an amazing plot, a toe curling romance, a mysterious and compelling vibe and the best buildup for drama. While I did enjoy moments in the story (like the meeting, the mysterious mental illness, the gothic haunted house, and the romance) it just didn’t go anywhere from there. It could have been taken so much further, but the plot was just so underwhelming that I at some points even wondered if there actually was any plot at all. It felt more like following every day life. Sure, not the most normal life with a haunted house, rich hot guys, and a zombie-ish sister. But it turned into everyday life since it really didn’t develop much from there until the end. Honestly, the minor characters had more interesting side plots than the actual main story, which is saying a lot.
I could tell that the story was focused more on the romance and developing a relationship rather than the storyline, which I would have been completely fine with if I had found a more meaningful interest in their romance. There just wasn’t anything drawing me to the main characters and nothing that stood out, which in turn made the chemistry and relationship almost dull. Everything was predictable as well. There were no twist or turns and very little drama helping the intrigue. And trust me, there was a lot of room for drama. Especially with the hung up ex. The author could have done so much with that, but just solved it with one dialogue that made me wonder why it was even in the book to begin with. The same with the dramatic ending. One page it is exciting and heart-gripping and then the next page; solved. What happened to the queen of romance and drama that is Jennifer L. Armentrout? Also where was her well-known humor that I just adore? Certainly and sadly not in this book.
It is a sad day indeed when I have to give a J.L.A book a low rating, because I have loved every single previous book from her that I have read. I couldn’t feel the passion or the same effort behind Moonlight sins as in her other books. Still, all authors have their dips from time to time. Not every story can and will be great and I am confident that this was a onetime thing.
I’ve seen some mixed reviews on this one. I found the mystery intriguing. Some things felt unfinished, but there are two more brothers, so hopefully, those ends will be tied off then. Lucien and Julia worked well together. Lucien definitely had a dirty side, but that contrasts nicely with his protective side. Julia found some interesting insights into herself. There was a lot of push and pull on the intimacy side. I thought it was going to spark hot and fast and burn the whole book. Instead, there was a spark and it was a nice long simmer. That was a delightful surprise. I was a little surprised by the ending. The bad guy wasn’t quite who I thought it would be and that doesn’t happen often with me. For a book that I looked at as homework to get to the second in the series, I’m happy that I picked it up. The de Vincents definitely keep things interesting.
An apparent romance that hides secrets wrapped in a touch of mystery and supernatural. The reader will constantly ask himself what is real and what is haunting. Moonlight Sins escapes the cliché romance and flirts with suspense. The De Vincent are a traditional family, rich, businessmen, who are surrounded by a certain mystery, have a kind of curse: over the generations, bizarre situations happened, and women end up getting involved in accidents or going crazy.
The book begins with the three De Vincent brothers (Devlin, Gabriel and Lucian) finding their father’s body hanged in his office. Suicide? Murder? Curse? The police are called and arrangements are made so that none of this is publicized as it would be a scandal to the family. All are suspects. What really happened?
Each brother will have his own book, and the first one is focused on Lucian. He is the black sheep of the family, did not have a good relationship with his father, was even disinherited. Lucian has a twin sister, who after a disappearance of ten years, appeared in a catatonic state. Needing a nurse to take care of Maddie, whose return is unknown to the media, Julia appears in the story.
Julia needs a fresh start. She needs to put some distance between her and her ex-husband who still insists on keeping in touch. So she decides to take a job as a caregiver on the other side of the country. On her last night before departure, while partying with her friends, she meets an absolutely gorgeous guy, and have the strangest and most surreal experience of her life. The next day, when she arrives at her new job, she discovers that she will work for the De Vincent, all her contracting was done by another person, for the sake of secrecy. Imagine her surprise to discover that the nightclub guy is actually Lucian De Vincent.
Lucian wants Julia. And nothing will stop him. And so the main couple is introduced. We will follow the unfolding of this relationship, amidst accidents, creaking of doors and floors, laughter and whispered sounds at dawn. Many secrets surround this family. But what is real? What are the real dangers?
This book was different from what I read. There are intrigues, secrets, mysteries, people who are not what they seem, unexpected revelations, in short, a whole package that holds the reader. I devoured the book for answers. The end is shocking, the reader can imagine who is to blame, but even so is caught by surprise. The motivations are consistent with everything that was presented during the narrative.
The book has a conclusion, but many questions remain unanswered. All that remains is to wait for the next volume and hope that everything is tied up satisfactorily. A great book, different, that leaves the reader intrigued and anxious.
When I began reading this book, I was instantly enthralled by the many levels of mystery. I wanted to read, read, read. But then, as I was about 3/4 of the way through, I started getting a little bored with it. I was into the mystery portion of this book more than the romance, and the mysteries were starting to lose their hold on me. There was also something about this story that just didn’t have the same spunk as a lot of other JLA books I’ve read, and I found myself waiting for that fire… it never came.
Anyway, I still mostly enjoyed the story. Haven’t decided if I will read the next in the series though.
