Nothing is ever what it seems—including me.The Midwest Pack has three goals: Protect the pack. Protect the pack. And yeah, protect the pack.I have my own goal: Live a simple life and hope no one ever discovers that the quiet young woman next door turns into a wolf. All my efforts go up in flames when a vampire attack draws the attention of the Midwest Pack. The next thing I know, I’m staring down … next thing I know, I’m staring down Ethan, a handsome and alluring alpha, as he demands to know what I am. Not who. What. The pack was warned that I’m not just a werewolf but a weapon—one that could be used against them.
A weapon? Me? I’d love to dismiss it as a case of mistaken identity, but I’ve become the supernaturals’ Most Wanted overnight. The vampires have put a bounty on my head. A necromancer attempts to kill me in a room full of people. And a mysterious witch is watching me far too closely for comfort.
The only thing standing between me and certain death is the pack, but we’re definitely not on the same page. I want to lie low, go back to my typical life, and live to fight another day, while their MO is “seek, confront, and destroy.”
And depending on the answers we find, the enemy they destroy … might be me.

Fun Read
Shifters, Vampires, Witches, and Demons! Oh, my! Loved the story, action -packed, and hell of a ride! Can’t wait to see where Skylar goes from here. On to the next! #HappyReading
I love all of the books by McKenzie Hunter. She has several series like these Legacy Series and Raven Cursed Book but my favorite is Sky Brooks Series Book. I am sure you will find something you will like
Fast paced Urban Fantasy that packs a heck of a punch!
3.5
“Moon Tortured” is book one in McKenzie Hunter’s Sky Brooks series. This series is in Skylar’s POV and follows her life into the world of the supernatural.
Being a werewolf has always been the one thing that Skylar despises about herself. Each month when the moon calls for her wolf she would sedate and lock herself in a cage. When a bunch of Vampires attack her home and is saved by the local Werewolf pack, learning to accept her wolf is going to be one of the many things she is going to have to do. Demetrius the leader of the Seethe wants Skylar and it’s now the Midwest Pack’s responsibility to keep her safe and out of the hands of the Vampires, or life as they know it will be total chaos.
This is the first time I have read something by this author. I can say I am really enjoying her writing.
This book was well paced with lots of action, suspense, angst, excitement and surprises. I read this book in one sitting it was that enjoyable. With so many great characters that I can’t wait to see grow and flourish in this series. I did find Skylar to be immature, eradicate and annoying at times. Now I understand she has been thrown into a world she knows nothing about or want anything to do with. But seriously her life is at risk, you’d think after the first two attempts on her life she would stop acting so stubborn and listen to the people trying to keep her alive and safe. Yes they may be werewolves with tempers and uncertainty in regards to how the future is going to look, but they are the experts in regards to the supernatural world.
Ethan, wow a typical alpha male, banging on chest and expecting the female to listen. Sorry bud but you are going to have to try harder. He is going to be fun to read when I go to his POV that have been written.
Josh, I’m really unsure of what I think of him, I’m on the fence about him.
Stephen, is a real sweetheart and is the friend that Skylar needed.
Urban Fantasy that’s just a little different. Good series.
This story is unbelievably good. It will throw you into the words and keep you there until you are finished. Mackenzie is a brilliant author and I havent found a book of hers I don’t like yet!
Sky Brooks is not the typical heroine. She drew me in because at first she isn’t very strong. But she learns and grows from her interactions with others and in particular Ethan. He isn’t going to just hand things to her, but makes her work for it and the fact that she is willing to do so makes her a strong person. She is not the typical kick butt heroine, but instead is confused as to who/what she really is. When a group of vampires takes interest in her and the Midwest Pack steps in to keep her safe, she is thrown into a world that she did not expect. The characters in this book are lifelike and jump off the pages to tell their stories. I particularly enjoy the characters of Sky and Ethan. Ethan is gruff and grumpy and at first doesn’t want much to do with Sky, but he also challenges her in a way that makes her want to prove him wrong. She works with the person in the pack who hates her the most to work on her self-defense skills. Sky works to understand who and what she is and handles it with fear, yes, but also with determination. The characters in this book are what make it so great and I highly recommend it.
I like the story. It’s fun and it keeps you asking questions. One of which still isn’t answered which is if all the guys are just assholes in the book or they trying to hide underlying feelings. I love the descriptions and the clear characteristics of each character but wish there was something more hinting at romance in the book
This is a great series. It has quickly made my top five list for it’s genre.
This book will pull a lot of emotions from you. You will love and empathize with some characters, you will be partially annoyed with others and totally be at a loss for words with a few. I love when a book can pull me in and draw all types of responses from me, and this book did that.
Excellent story. Interesting world filled with all types of magical beings, all with their secrets and rivalries. And the main character is a mystery that everyone is trying to solve. Great read. I totally recommend this book and the series.
FYI! If you are looking for instant romance or instant love, this is not a PNR book and you may be disappointed. Though being the first book of its series, the ground for a romantic story line is laid down and definitely gives you something to look forward to.
I love the audiobooks as well. Excellent narrator.
