Moon Chosen is a great start to the series. Although it took me some time to get immersed in the story, I am happy I did. Everything about the Clan and the Tribe is interesting. And their histories really play an important role in understanding the series. I look forward to seeing what’s ahead especially with that cliffhanger epilogue.
I loved this book and cannot wait to start the second one! The writing and world building is absolutely incredible!
OKAY, I for one love this book and Sun warrior I was sad when I heard that she was in a car crash I love her books but I care about the author more. At first, she keeps you wondering. Then it’s like wow and you are on a roller coaster she makes sure you are never bored on the ride.
This book is amazing. The world-building is outstanding! The culture of the civilizations is something to beholden, and the imagery can give you chills. Defiantly would recommend this book and it’s sequels to anyone.
I didn’t actually finish it. It was a bit too twisted for me. I got maybe 4 chapters in. Started off nice, but I hit too many nopes to keep going. Sorry, I am sure people who like P.C. Cast will probably enjoy this, but I couldn’t go on.
It’s the best book ever, it makes me want to read part 2 and 3.
This story is creative, complex, choreographed to dance with the light of the Moon & the rays of the Sun. As you read a beautiful world of magic and wonder is created on the pages. It is so sad that so many readers could not read through the amazing construction of this world. Unlike them I absolutely could not put this story down (much to my husband’s dismay!). I was so captured by everything happening in the world, the characters, their canine companions, their beliefs, the rituals, everything just came alive for me! Even the ugly parts, I felt them and knowing they were part of the story, I accepted them because I know it will all come together the way that it is supposed to whether I like it or not. I cannot wait to read more of Mari & Nik’s story and the apocalyptic world that has me wondering if maybe the Sun was on to something…

This was my first P.C. Cast novel and I truly did not know what to expect. It took me about 100 pages to get into this one, and it is quite a slow novel. BUT, with that being said, Cast has really taken the time to outline and explain the different parts of this world – the clans, the tribes, and the different ways they worship the gods/sun/moon, and how they interact with each other and also their animals.
I liked both Mari and Nik as characters, but I think I would have to say that I preferred Nik just that little bit more. Although, I think Mari has a lot more character growth in this first novel, as she has a hell of lot to come to terms with and to learn. By the end of the novel she is fierce and independent, and I look forward to seeing how she continues to grow in the next novel.
Nik is a very passionate and caring character, and I really like how he is open minded and wants to change things in their world. As a reader, you can see how the people in this novel have incorrect perceptions about each other, and there were many times I just wanted to shout at them, that all they really needed to do was sit down and talk and have a proper discussion and find out how similar things are for them all, even if one relates to the Moon, and the other to the Sun.
There are quite a few secondary characters in this one, and it would take too long to go into them all, but I think the one who stood out the most for me was Sora, because she also shows alot of growth in this novel. I also look forward to potentially seeing more of her in the next book.
By the end of the novel, things really start to amp up, and you can see that situations will take a turn and that is where Mari and Nik will truly come together. Whilst I didn’t think the book ended on too much of what I would call a cliff hanger, it is left open at the right spot for us as readers to want more, and to follow Mari and Nik’s journey, and find out if any of these peoples ever will get along.
I think, all in all, this was a good introduction and explanation into this world, and a good starting point for things to really take off in the next novel.
A really good book. It’s well written.
This book follows a young girl, Mari, born of two worlds. The Tribe of the Trees and the Earth Walker Clan. She and her mom, Leda, have to hide who she really is from her people or the Clan will kill them both. The Clan cannot know Mari is the blood of the tree people as well. Mari is born with unusual power and looks, and they hide it with hair dye and clay, and they tell the Clan that she is sickly to keep her out of the sun as much as possible so she doesn’t risk exposure. Leda is the Clan’s Moon Woman, or Healer, and it is her duty to wash the Clan of the Night Fever. One day a Shepherd canine shows up at their burrow and claims Mari as his Companion, which is a rite of blood for the people of the Tribe of the Trees. This leads to a member, Nik, of the tribe hunting the pup down, as he feels it is his responsibility for having lost the pup, and he believes the Shepherd would have chosen HIM. If a Shepherd chooses you, you are a leader in the Tribe. This leads to Leda being killed and Mari left on her own with her Shepherd, which she has named Rigel. She now has to decide who she wants to be and if she has the strength and courage to do what needs done. I loved this novel. It is a new and intriguing type of story. I can’t wait for the next one!!
