Bryndle Moody has a dilemma–she keeps waking up in the 1850’s. As if that isn’t troubling enough, her lover, the handsome sea captain, Caspian Cortez, doesn’t recognize her in 1850 and is little help in explaining the woman who follows him around. Making sense of time traveling takes over Moody’s life and leads to her enlisting help from Eve and Carlos. Deciphering the mystery of why, how, and … how, and when time traveling will strike next has all three head scratching with Bryndle stuck in the life of shipping and smuggling along the Oregon coast until being murdered on a dark beach seems possible for at least one of the star-crossed lovers.

Hoist the Jib is the 4th book in the Moody Mystery Series. This is a series that I will read again in the future. It was fun and entertaining from the first pages of Book One to the last page of Book Four. There is time travel which Hornsby handled in such a clear fashion – it made my reading in bed at 2 am so enjoyable. Obviously I had trouble putting the book (actually Books 1 -4) down. Oh, and be ready to fall head over heels for a certain Sea Captain – that’s all I’m going to say. You will have to read it for yourself. Enjoy the journey
Loved this book and can’t wait for the next one in the series. I especially liked the ending and want to see where Kim Hornsby takes this series. I couldn’t put it down.
I can’t believe the way this book went. I was turned upside down for sure. Bryndle goes more places then ever before. She seems to be doing better with her blindness. Now she has another problem. Where is going to end up next? Doing what? There was one part of the book where I was screaming I KNEW IT with Caspian. I love and hate him at the same time. I think Bryndle and his relationship is put to the test here. I am glad at the way this book wrapped up. There was some things that was left a little open so we could have some different ways to go. I always like that
Love this latest installment on the Moody series! Original plot and great characters. Can’t wait to see where the next one takes us!
I am a huge fan of this series. Moody and her best ghost friend, Caspian, take their relationship to a new level. Unplanned time travel takes place as Moody is transported back in time to see her (multiple greats) grandmother also in love with Caspian. Will we find out how Caspian died? Is Moody her own descendant? This book, like the others is captivating and it’s a hard one to put down.
There are multiple twists and the end is mind blowing. The time travel isn’t strange, instead it eis essential to the story.
I highly recommend reading these books in order. You will enjoy every one of them.
Blind Physic Bryndle loves her Spanish Ghost, Captain Caspian Cortez… but could she be his descendant? Awkward…. Now Bryndle has started time traveling without warning to the 1850s where alive Captain Caspian Cortez is in love with her 4x great grandmother whose body she inhibits while she’s there…. and she’s thrown into a world of smuggling and slavery and danger all while she’s trying to figure out how Caspian died….. when she’s back at present time, Bryndle tries with Eve and Carlos help to make sense of it all… Author Kim Hornsby kicked it up a notch with the time traveling which happens a lot and the ending will leave you speechless and waiting for the next book….
Caspian comes walking from the beach to embrace Bryndle, and they learn that Caspian is now visible to everyone in the household, including Hodor.
Bryn finds herself being pulled back into the 1850’s, reliving segments of meeting Caspian, and it is during one of these excursions where she meets Caspian in the library that she hears him mention the baby. This is very upsetting news to get.
Bryn has her mother, Rachel, drop her off at her Ganna’s house so she can ask her about the Primrose history. Ganna recalls a great-great-great-great grandmother by the name of Rachel, and how she fell in love with a sea captain by the name of Caspian Cortez, and there was a daughter.
It is the times that Bryn time travels back to the 1850’s, that we get snippets of just how, Rachel, whose body is inhibited by Bryndle, and Caspian met. We, also get a glimpse of Jacqueline and how she aided Rachel, which puts her in a new light. Bryn, now worried that Caspian was in love with Rachel, whom Bryndle resembled.
Bryn is often visited by a crow, during one visit while on the dock near Floatville, Bryn gets another visit where the crow says: ‘Hoist the jib.’ Turns out there is a reason for the crow visiting Bryn, he belonged to Ten Tooth, a crew member of Caspians.
Each time Bryn goes back in time, she learns of information for a motive of Caspians death and Rachel’s future. Caspian is gone longer and longer until Bryn becomes despondent and her Ganna is called. Ganna starts to make inquiries, and learns very important details about the family history.
I love this series! I was gasping and thinking ‘noooo’ through parts of the book because I’m so caught in Bryn and Caspian’s story. The bits and pieces provide new insight. The ending, left me both shocked and wondering what is next.
Hoist the Jib, 4th in the Moody & the Ghost serial story, adds another dimension with time travel entering a paranormal investigator’s life. While time travel is not generally something I read, Ms. Hornsby handles the subject deftly, keeping this reader turning the pages. Intriguing and suspenseful with a surprise “ending,” Hoist the Jib whets the appetite for the next installment. (Written as serial installments, each book builds on the previous. You’ll want to start at the beginning and read them all!)
Every book I read by Kim Hornsby is better than the last. I couldn’t put this one down and can’t wait for the next book to come out. I always feel like I’m in the story with the characters, not just reading about them. I love when stories are like that. I Highly recommend this book and the whole series. Start with book 1 and you won’t be disappointed
Wow! What a ride! Bryndle, a blind paranormal investigator and ghost hunter has fallen in love with the Ghost of a nineteenth century sea captain, Caspian Cortez. She now travels through time to explore the link between him and Rachel, a distant relative who nursed him back to health in the 1850’s. We explore Bryndle’s emotions and angst as she travels through yime to determine if Caspian is her great great great grandfather. She fervently wants Caspian to be her lover, even if only cosmically. But she cannot allow herself this indulgence if they are truly related.
Where will her time travels take her? What will she discover? Can a Ghost and an Alive fall in love for life? Will Bryndle and Caspian find a way to be together and explore their attraction to each other?
To find out, read Hoist the Jib. The story of the Ghost and Bryndle Primrose.
I absolutely love this series. If you haven’t read the first 3 I highly recommend you start at the beginning. It’s an easy, entertaining read and you WILL become involved in the storyline. The characters are all interesting and I am now wondering where the story will go next!
Wow! Loved, loved, loved the ending! It was so perfectly done. It felt satisfying and resolved while at the same time offering an intriguing twist making it exciting and mysterious! One of the best feel-good endings with a cliff hanger I have ever read! Well done! I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
