A destructive secret. An honorable man. A plea for forgiveness.Jane Keith has known little kindness in her life. When she finds herself abandoned and starving after venturing to Bear Grass Springs, the warm welcome by the MacKinnons surprises her. Although she is now an integral part of the bakery staff, with no concern for room and board, she frets about her younger brother, Duncan. He’s … He’s reckless and wild, and she fears what will occur if he continues to frequent the saloons and gambling tables. And she is terrified of what will happen should Duncan reveal her long-held secret.
Ben Metcalf is accustomed to living alone. He works hard as Ewan MacKinnon’s foreman, but he tires of being the only single adult at their family gatherings. After Jane Keith’s arrival in Bear Grass Springs, he is drawn to her devotion to family, her inherent kindness, and the intelligence she attempts to hide. Frustrated by Jane hiding behind work and her concern for her brother, Ben worries Jane will never return his feelings.
When Ben steals Jane away in the middle of the night to save her from her brother’s unscrupulous plan, Jane’s relationship with her brother is irrevocably altered. Suddenly, she is a married woman. Soon, Jane must decide who deserves her loyalty: her husband or her brother.
When her fiercely held secret is revealed, will Ben look past anger and his sense of betrayal to focus on his love for Jane or will he allow a secret to destroy what he most cherishes?

I truly expected not to like this book as much as I did the others. Mostly because I hadn’t connected with Jane and very little with Ben. Once again, Ramona has surprised and delighted me. Full of plush new characters mixed with wonderful returning ones, the plot was full of emotional turmoil. It has a great storyline that kept me turning pages into the wee hours. Revenge, betrayal, bitterness, forgiveness, and redemption are dealt with honestly.
I can’t say enough to recommend this series. Please start at the beginning if you can, because the interweaving of the characters throughout the books provides a rich experience. Enjoy!
The MacKinnon’s are a close-knit family who will stop at nothing to protect their own.
When Jane and her brother ,Duncan, come to Bear Grass, their future unknown, Jane turns to one of the MacKinnon’s for a job and some sense of security.
Montana Vagabond is a story about family secrets, past hurts, and new found forgiveness. The characters are real and I found them compelling. I especially loved, Jane’s quite nature and her ability to forgive those who have hurt her.
Very heartfelt and inspirational read with a sweet romance. Definitely a page turner. Can’t wait to read the next one.
I was provided with an ARC copy by the author and willingly choose to review it. All opinions are my own.
I received an arc and the opinions and views are my own. Go to 1880s Montana and meet the MacKinnon’s and their friends, they become like family who you want to visit often. This story is about Jane Keith and the reason she comes to Bear Grass Springs. Ben Metcalf comes to her rescue and marries her, now he needs to keep her safe from the Gambler. Lots of secrets and plots going on. I gave the story four stars because the author skipped a part of the story, it goes from making plans to get the gambler to sitting at a table in the saloon waiting for him. There is mention of things that happened in between but it would have been better to read it as it happens. The rest of the story is well written and easy to follow. I am enjoying the MacKinnon family and their friends story. I would recommend this book and series to all.
Such a beautifully written story. I started reading at 2:00 a.m., took a break, then finished immediately after a doctors appointment because I didn’t want to stop once I started.
This story has joy, heartbreak, love, anger, and so many emotions that I was laughing and crying and loving every word on every page. Ben and Jane are perfect for one another. One is strong when the other is weak, comforting when the other needs love, and truly compliment each other continually throughout the story.
Ben works with Ewan MacKinnon thus making him a MacKinnon family member. Jane works with Annabelle MacKinnon making her a MacKinnon family member. The two marry to save Jane from an evil man from Ben’s past. She is also reunited with her family who doesn’t know she exists. This story is an emotional rollercoaster from beginning to end and I LOVED every minute of it.
The MacKinnon family, blood and spirit, is the family we all want. They love and support each other through thick and thin, pain and joy, love and loss, and through any obstacle that is thrown at them.
I cannot recommend the Bear Grass Springs series enough. They are clean yet real, not all sugary sweet like most clean reads. You can believe that these people could be real because they go through real situations (miscarriages, abuse, inability to carry any child to term, being illegitimate, and losing a spouse, parent, and child). They lean on each other and support each other through all of this. The BEST thing about this series is that you can read all the books or one book and still understand the storyline.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!
wonderful story filled with secrets, love of family and loyalty. Complex interesting characters and an interesting storyline make this a book worth reading.
Having read all the books in this series, all which I have previously enjoyed, I was a little disappointed in this one. The MacKinnon family stood by their friends and were true to form, even though Jane and her brother hid their secrets. Duncan was the worst kind brother and Jane really did need a wake-up call regarding her loyalty to him. Ben is a gentle giant and wants to protect Jane, but she does make it difficult for him. Although generally well written, there was just a little too much melodrama for me in this novel. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Not my favorite in the series.
Just OK. I don’t think that I cared enough about these main characters as
I did for all of the others.
KNOCKED OUT OF MY ORBIT!!!
Head ’em up, move ’em out! Ramona hits this baby out of the park. The way she spins this incredible jewel is staggering. The tension is thick, betrayal plentiful, mystery palpable and the determination is staggering. Perilous drama, a smorgasbord of uncertainty, chilling danger and electrifying suspense thrust this bad boy together piece by piece fluidly. An explosive storyline with a blazing plot rocks this baby to the core from start to finish. Hurdling through all the trials and tribulations, along with a few twists and turns fuses this little jewel together sleek, shiny and tight. A churning vortex of inadvertent activities and vexing surprising events keep you flipping page after page. Throw in all the perplexing situations that keep your full attention on this page turning dynamo and you have one wild rollercoaster ride. The realism and authenticity of the characters as their on point personalities blend and connect along with the graphically detailed scenes that thrust this little jewel together smooth as silk. Fantastic job Ramona, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
