He’s falling for his brother’s ex—as if he needs another reason to go.Nate Wilde is ready to leave Birch Bay. He’s been home too long as it is and extending his visit means risking fantasies of staying for good. Wants and desires never work out for him, though. With good comes bad, and he’s had enough bad to last a lifetime. Unfortunately, his siblings need him. The family orchard is on the brink … orchard is on the brink of collapse, and they’re relying on him to help. Only . . . what can he possibly do to save an orchard that’s lost most of its trees?
Megan Manning, ex-girlfriend to Nate’s youngest brother and manager of the Wilde family’s cherry-themed gift store, intends to settle permanently in her newly adopted town. Her own family has always cared more about traveling the world than creating a place to call home, so she’s going to make that for herself. Her list for happiness is simple. A rewarding job, good friends, and finding someone to love. She doesn’t want the kind of love she grew up with, however. She wants someone willing to stick.
As Nate works to save the orchard, Megan pitches in to help. After all, no cherry farm equals no need for a cherry-themed gift store. But when constant contact has their chemistry spiking, Megan discovers there’s more than the family business worth fighting for. Only, will Nate be able to handle falling for his brother’s ex? Or will he walk . . . exactly as her family always has?

The emotions this author can evoke! The Wilde family has so many issues, but through it all they stick together. Even if/when one of them doesn’t realize how much support they will get, it’s there waiting for them.
From the moment Nate and Megan have their conversation in the cherry store, a totally innocent and innocuous conversation, I could feel the sparks. Their pull, along with their resistance, was a palpable thing. Kim Law did a phenomenal job setting up this relationship from all angles. And while my heart broke for both the hero and heroine, I never felt sorry for them or pitied them.
One of the things I love about this series is I feel the author really did her homework when it comes to the psychological issues the mom had and the ramifications of those issues with the now adult children. Nate proves that even when you’re aware of the harm done to your psyche as a child, and even when you know what is true and what is not true, certain things will take root and stay deep down so you don’t even realize you’re letting that past stuff affect your current life.
Both Megan and Nate had to learn to speak up for themselves. Once they got comfortable enough to talk with each other about things they had kept buried inside, they started gaining more confidence in voicing their feelings with others. It was wonderful to watch them blossom in that way, even with the bumps along the way.
One of these days I’ll have to seek out other stories by this author because I just adore this series and her writing. That way I won’t have to go so long between getting my fix of her sublime mix of angst and joy.

I was so excited when I heard that Kim Law was going back to the Wildes!! One of my favorite families. I will say this right away, you don’t have to read the previous books before reading this one, but you will want read them all after reading Nate’s story.
Nate left Birch Bay when he turned eighteen, living a life of a nomad. Megan, manages the the store of cherry themed gifts of the Wildes, she is the ex girlfriend of Nate’s brother. The cherry orchard is on the brink of collapse and Nate has returned home to help in the orchard.
Nate and Megan have hit if off but the problem lays in that Megan is looking for her forever and Nate has never been able to hold on to his forever. They both have past family issues that they need to resolve to have the forever us.
This is a well written book with wonderful characters. Loved Megan and Nate, ok maybe I wanted to punch Nate a few times, but he finally worked it all out. It was great to catch up with the Wildes!! I can’t wait to read Cord’s story. I highly recommend this book along with the rest of the books in this series!!
Montana Promises by Kim Law turned out to be a story to heal the wounded hearts of many readers. This author takes two damaged souls and paints their weaknesses so beautifully the reader weeps over their past losses and rejections and dreams of a bright future for them. I certainly recommend this book for all romance fans.
I really like Kim’s books. This is another wonderful story of family issue resolution and love. I think you will enjoy it. I received a free, advance copy of this book from the publisher. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
This is one of the sweetest love stories that I have read in a long time. Nate and Megans story is so well written, the characters, the scenes everything just pulls you right in and has you turning the pages.
Nate Wilde is a hard working loner that has made it clear he has no intention of ever moving back home. There is one not so small hitch in his plans though and her name is Megan Manning. Although she is off limits since she used to be engaged to his brother Jared.
Megan Manning is a smart woman, she left a promising career in the technology field to move to Birch Bay and manage the Wilde family’s store. Not only is she the manager but she helped get it moved to downtown Birch Bay and she redesigned their website. Even after she and Jared split, she remained friends with Jared and his family.
I love how Nate and Megan start off as friends and simply slide into love. This book will pull you in and you will need a box of tissues.
Both Nate and Megan come from less than ideal family backgrounds and both have their own issues to work out with their families, which makes them all the more perfect for each other.
Now, I am just waiting to see how the last single Wilde standing will fall.
I love the Wildes of Birch Bay, Montana as this series continues with Nate’s story, the lone wolf of the family. As soon as I started reading, I knew I wouldn’t be able to put the book down and I was on an emotional roller coaster full of family and personal drama that kept me totally involved in all that was happening and turning pages as fast as I could to see what would happen next. I also loved the attraction and undeniable chemistry between Nate and Megan Manning, ex girlfriend to Nate’s youngest brother an manager of the Wilde family’s cherry-themed gift store. If you enjoy well-crafted contemporary romance, don’t miss this heartwarming and emotional read. Ms. Law knocked me for a loop with “Montana Promises” and I look forward to book six in this must-read series. I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Book five of the Wildes of Birch Bay by Kim Law tells the story of Nate Wilde, a loner who left Birch Bay at 18 to find his way in the world, and Megan Manning, the ex-fiancé of his brother Jaden, who loves Birch Bay and chooses to stay after their breakup.
Nate just wants to do what he needs to, to keep the family’s cherry orchard going, then head out of town.
Megan just wants to do when she needs to, to keep the reason for a cherry themed store in business, then settle down in a town she’s grown to love.
Nate and Megan are different. Megan, the cheerful ‘glass is half full’ personality and Nate, the grump whose ‘glass is half empty and about to spill’, always. Their interaction allows their personalities to complement each other, but with their backgrounds, will they take the final step to happiness?
Since this is a Birch Bay novel, you’ll get to see other family members that we’ve come to know and love. If you haven’t read any of the other books in this series, you’ll not be confused. This is a total stand-alone. I’ve enjoyed all the books in this series.
Nate Wilde has a secret that drove him to run from Birch Bay and his family, but now he’s tired and wants to come home to stay. As he settles in he’s drawn to his brother’s former fiancée. He is falling for Meghan. Do they have a future? I liked Nate. He’s a good person and a hard worker. I just wished he didn’t keep everything inside. I wondered if he and his family can get beyond their past problems?Meghan has such spirit. I liked that she speaks her mind. She deserves happiness. I wanted her to find her perfect match. The chemistry between these two is amazing. I liked seeing them together. I was pulled into their romance. I was pulled into this family drama. Birch Bay and the cherry orchard are a great place to visit. I, also, enjoyed seeing the rest of the Wilde Family and catching up with them. Kim Law wrote an emotional story. I cared for Nate and Megan and wanted them to be together. I was sorry that they both carried baggage that still causing them problems. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next.
Powerful! This story is so full of real emotion and angst from both primary characters. A childhood with a narcissistic mother has made Nate Wilde feel like the outsider in his big family so left his hometown as soon as he could. His life has been a transient one, with infrequent trips home and no relationships. But a family crisis brings him back yet again.
Megan Manning came to Birch Bay with her then boyfriend Jaden Wilde and stayed after she broke it off with him. She too has a strained family dynamic and has found peace and a home with the Wilde family and this community.
These two wonderful characters show what real life can be like – ups and downs with some days so much better than others. Sparks fly between them until they accept that they can have something that lasts if they just trust.
I loved this book so much! You’ll need a few tissues if you read it in one night!
I received an ARC from the author for an honest and unbiased review. No compensation was promised or received for this review.
I have totally adored this entire series. The Wilde “children” are all grown up, but boy do they have issues from living with a screwed up mother. This book is about Nate. Nate has always made it a poing to stay away from home, but has to return and stick around after his father has a devastating accident and a freak cold spell just about wiped out the entire family cherry orchard.
Nate’s younger brother’s ex-girlfriend is working in the family store. Megan is attracted to Nate and he to her, but…she’s his little brother’s ex-girlfriend. That’s something Nate has issues with, but it’s not all he has issues with.
Megan is determined to help with the family problems and keeps showing up to work with Nate. It makes things a little sticky. Megan will have to work extra hours to get through to Nate. Can Nate work through his problems so that they can have a relationship?
Another delightful book in the series by Kim Law. Loved it!
I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.
5 MEGAN AND NATE STARS!! I loved this book….it is my favorite in the series. Megan and Nate’s story will touch your heart with all the feels. These two both have obstacles to go through, but so perfect for each other. Kim Law sucks us in to her story land and you feel like you know the characters.
This is the fifth book in the Wilde’s of Birch Bay series. I have to say it was one of my favorites. This story has some real guts to it. This is Nate’s story and shows us how much more their mom’s problems affected these kids.
Nate is 1/2 of the twin set with Nick. All his life growing up he would hear his mom say how she loved Nate more than Nick. Yet he never felt any love from her. He felt blame and hurt but no love. Unfortunately, things that had happened in Nate’s past are still being carried around with him today. You might even say he is being haunted by them. He eludes to having secrets from his family and if they find out they won’t want him around. He carries such guilt that he doesn’t stay home very long when he visits. He can’t.
Megan Manning feels very happy and content being in Wicked Bay. When she was engaged to Jaden Wilde she had come there with him and fallen in love with the town. She is no longer engaged to Jaden. She runs the Cherry Basket. She had given up her programming job with computers to stay in Birch Bay and run the store for the Wilde’s.
Nate and Megan start working together on a project of Nate’s to help the Cherry Orchard. It is dying out and only has but a handful of trees left. Nate has come up with an idea of using some of the property to build some cabins for a resort type business. People can rent the cabins and then utilize the areas outdoor activities. Snowmobiling, Hiking and so on which will all be contracting through local businesses. They want Nate to stay and handle it. But he says he is leaving once it is completed. But will he? While working with Megan things are changing. Although Nate has hang-ups with her being engaged to his brother, he can’t stop his feelings for her, but he is trying. He thinks having feelings Megan is not the right thing you do to your brother. No matter how much she tells him otherwise.
The cabins are coming together nicely, Megan is going to design the inside of them, and she has even come up with the idea to use the barn for wedding venues. Things are progressing wonderfully with their relationship as well. So much so that they are going to tell Nate’s family about it. When they all get together Nate tells them, and Jaden announces something that makes Nate go a bit crazy. I’m not giving away anything due to the fact you all need to read this to follow the progression of their relationship and how all of this will fit together.
I loved this book. I loved the way that Ms. Law brought a lot of the past books into this one and moved forward as well. Nate and Megan’s story was full of problems from Nate’s past and how all that weaved in and out was wonderful. If you have read the other books this might fill in a bit for you, if you haven’t it might be a bit hard to follow. I recommend reading the previous books first.
“I received a free, advance copy of this book from the author. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.”
This is book five of the Wildes of Montana series. While you do not have to have read the first books in this series – it can totally stand alone – you really should read those because they’re beautiful books and having that knowledge of this beautiful family’s background can only add to how great this story is. This story has some sex and some cursing including f-bombs, but neither thing overwhelms the story.
Nate’s story is as difficult to read as the other Wilde siblings stories have been, but Ms. Law balances the dramatic stuff with a lot of sweetness, love, and hopefulness. Knowing what Nate went through and how he struggled because of his childhood, that all just makes the happily ever after that much more wonderful. If there were ever an entire family that deserved a happily ever after, it is the Wilde family (their dad included).
Looking in from the outside, this pairing should not work. Megan dated Nate’s brother Jaden long-term (that would typically be a dealbreaker for me, I won’t lie), and the characters of Nate and Jaden couldn’t be more different, but this pairing, these two people, just work in a way that is unexpectedly right. Megan was the perfect foil for Nate’s lone-wolf attitude, cheerfully and sweetly breaking through his crusty shell and making him admit that being alone isn’t the life he wants to lead. Knowing Megan from Jaden’s story, I already liked her, but I really loved her in this book. Ironically, one of the best parts of the book was the way that Nate helped bring Megan’s stronger woman out, the way that he helped her see that she needed to require more from the people in her life. I loved seeing her find herself and her place in the world – even though it kind of backfired on Nate for a bit.
Being a Wildes of Montana book, there is a healthy dose of the other Wilde siblings, their father, and all of their various partners/children. I say that in every review of a Wilde book but it bears repeating: this series and this family is amazing and I love every minute of reading about them. Although I am looking forward to Cord’s book, I am dreading the end of this series because the idea of no more books about these awesome characters makes me so sad.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who has enjoyed the previous books or to anyone who enjoys a really well-written book about two very unlikely characters finding love.
My heart worked overtime with this book. Nate Wilde, and Megan Manning, are truly such lost, hurting souls that you can only find yourself hoping they find happiness. And if they find it together? Even better!
I won’t retell the story as the author does it SO much better than I could, but I can tell you what I loved about it. The Wilde family has seen such heartache, and heartbreak, and I loved reading about all of them – in previous books, too. Montana Promises isn’t quite a standalone as it tells more of the story of the Wildes and has them returning, with their own families, as important supporting characters. I’d say that reading the previous books will most certainly enhance your experience and help you to understand the depth of the connections in this family.
Nate and Megan are special. Both are struggling with their pasts (although Megan’s is hurtful, imho it doesn’t come close to the hateful past Nate has to deal with) and the fact that Megan is an ex of one of Nate’s brothers… Well, therein lies the story.
All the Wildes, and surrounding friends, come together once again to support each other and help heal an old family rift. They have had it tough for all their lives and it is wonderful to read each of their roads to an HEA. I loved this story, and admittedly have a crush on Nate, and recommend Montana Promises and the series. I received a free, advance copy of this book from the publisher. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
Wow…just WOW!
This was another great book in the Wilde’s of Birch Bay series! I have read and thoroughly enjoyed each one of these books. This book was perfect!! Nate and Megan deserved the love and understanding that they found in each other.
I was enjoying this story so much and was just waiting to see what could possibly happen to ruin the relationship, and when it happened, I was in utter shock and had to take a break from reading (mostly because of the tears). My heart broke for everyone in the story – but mostly for Nate!
I received an advanced copy of this book from the author as part of her Review Team in exchange for an honest review.
No Spoilers …Montana Promises is an emotional read from the start to the finish. Nate Wilde has been home for a time but always knows in the back of his mind that he needs to leave again even though the only place he wants to be is home but he feels his past is stopping him from doing that and if he stays he will hurt the family that he loves and only wants to protect. Megan Manning came to town with Jayden Nate’s brother but ended up staying to run the families store the Cherry Basket and ended up breaking up with Jayden in the process as they were not right for each. Nate and Megan have a tremendous pull towards one another but dont want to hurt Jayden in the process so the fight begins but each one of them needs to heal their past before they can move forward into the future for what that holds you will have to read.
Nate Wilde and Megan Manning both have childhoods they would love to forget. However, in order to move forward in their lives they need to rebuild relationships, and forgive others and themselves.
This is the 5th book in the Wildes of Birch Bay, but it can be read as a stand alone because Ms. Law does a wonderful job explaining backstories and other characters.
I absolutely loved this story as it was full of romance and passion. I found the characters to be relatable and feel almost real. I also found myself wanting to read this book every spare minute I had because I needed to know what was going to happen.
I highly recommend this story and cant wait to see what is up next for the Wilde family!
I received a free, advance copy of this book from the publisher. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
This is such a good book!
I loved everything about this engaging,
sexy & emotional romance.
Nate, was told growing up that he is a loser. Because of it, he felt he wasn’t good enough to be loved. Megan, has always fought for her father’s approval. What she wants more than anything is to find love & happiness.
I look forward to reading Cole’s story.
Nate Megan, are perfect together.
The emotions, humor & their chemistry
pulled me in, & kept me hooked.
Megan & Nate make a perfect couple. Both of them had family issues that they needed to resolve before they could create their “happily ever after”. Megan’s parents were divorced when she was young & she’s been battling for her father’s attention ever since. She has put up with a lack of his time because she felt that’s all she deserved. She’s finally had enough!
Nate was manipulated by his narcissistic mother to believe that all bad things were his fault. She even tried to turn him & his twin, Nick, against each other. Then Gabe’s ex-wife Michelle tried to complete the job by seducing him at seventeen & threatening to tell everyone he raped her when the guilt was getting to be too much for him. He felt he didn’t deserve anyone’s love. Gabe needed to realize that he wasn’t responsible & to forgive himself so that he could move on with his life.
Guilt is a powerful emotion & it almost broke up various Wilde relationships & the family. This story was powerful & strong with the premise of forgiveness. The interactions between Nate & the family are all tainted by his guilt & misconceptions. As he begins to discover the truth & learn the value of Megan’s love, the real Nate begins to shine through. I love the quick peeks at the other relationships in the family & seeing how they’ve continued to love & grow. I really can’t wait until Cord’s story but I’d love to have Dre & Brooke’s story too!
This is a beautifully written series, dealing with the repercussions of Narcissistic Personality Disorder on family members. Three years ago, the Wildes finally started confronting the manipulation and pain caused by their mother. Dani, Nick, Gabe and Jaden and even their father Max, have all managed, with therapy, to heal and find love, something they never received from their mother. Jaden has gone into counseling and had been dating Megan Manning for 4 years, when she broke it off at the beginning of the last book. Megan has moved on, even playing matchmaker for Jaden and his current fiancee, Arsula. Megan wants a husband and family, a husband who wants to stay with home with her with her, not like her family situation when she was growing up. She even has a list of potential men. The good thing about her 4 year relationship with Jaden, was it brought her to Birch Bay, a place that she loves and wants to call home. She gave up her high paying computer coding job to run the The Cherry Basket, while branching out to all other types of activities, until she finds something that calls to her.
That leaves Nate and Cole. Cole became a doctor and Nate ran away at eighteen, only two of his brothers knowing why. While he allowed his family to think he was a bum, he really was building a number of construction businesses all over the country. He wants to come home, but is afraid about what will happen if his secret comes out. He has always felt that his family didn’t need him.
At end of the last book a killer frost swept in and destroyed most of the cherry trees and Max Wilde, who was having hallucinations due to medications he was on, ended up in an accident and lost his leg and almost his life. Another thing for Nate to feel guilty about. But Nate comes up with a solution to save the Orchard and working with Megan starts to feel that maybe something good can develop between them, despite her being his younger brother’s ex. While he helps and encourages her to deal with her own family dysfunctions, can he overcome the program of failure that his mother had drummed into his head or will he mess up his relationship with her too?
As I said at the beginning of this review, this is a beautifully written series. However, I would not suggest jumping in here as a stand alone, but start at the beginning. I received a free ARC from the author and this is my unbiased and voluntary review.
