What kind of man will make a worthy husband? Beautiful Carrie Berrymen knows it’s not the half-wild Crow Indian who’s just saved her life! With wolves circling the prized longhorn calf and its mother, Carrie finds herself without a weapon. In the Montana wilds, Strong Eagle is the only protection she or the small, but all-important herd of runaway cattle has—and she must depend on the Crow … warrior, like it or not.
Strong Eagle can’t deny the instant attraction he feels for the young woman who has taken on so much responsibility for her family’s well-being. The settlers are changing Montana—and not for the better. Though Strong Eagle admires Carrie’s courage and determination, he knows there can be no future for them—not with the differences in the ways of their people.
But as their younger brothers find common ground, Carrie and Strong Eagle learn that, though their worlds are different, they are becoming more alike than they ever thought. With the mountains in their blood, can they share the language of love in the same MONTANA HEARTBEAT?

This story could have been great, but it spent more time pondering the Crows future then actually telling a story. There are times I actually became bored, and wanted to just put the story down. I was actually curious how the author got these two together. The ending is not a surprise, but it doesn’t answer alot of questions either. The plot is excellent, but the story itself is lost in boring pondering.
Two Hearts Beating Within a Vast Landscape
The land of his forefathers, the place the newcomers called Montana, was the center of Strong Eagle’s existence. It was his heartbeat. Then she invaded his heart.
Pennsylvania had been Carrie Berrymen’s home until her father brought the family to Montana. This vast land intimated her, even frightened her as she tried to raise cattle upon it. It was her nemesis. Then he invaded her space.
I liked a lot about Montana Heartbeat. Vella Munn did a good job of writing an interesting story with enough history to make it believable. I liked not only the lead characters, but also the supporting characters. Every personality seemed to be necessary to this tale of two world colliding. Although the pace was a bit slow, still it was steady and each scene moved the story forward. The ending was very sweet, but (sadly) it was not very satisfying.
Content alert: Although this book is free of vulgarities, it does contain a mildly descriptive sexually intimate scene and a number of references to sexual intimacy.
Note to editor: this edition needs another session with a proof reader. In addition to various mistakes, at least five times Water Running is called Running Water.

When a young Crow warrior comes to Carrie’s aid, her initial response is borne out of fear of the unknown. Knowing she has no alternative but to trust that he has her best interests at heart, Carrie has to rely on him, firstly to find the missing cattle and secondly to get her safely home. Facing her parents’ prejudice against Strong Eagle makes Carrie cringe. However, in the days that follow as Strong Eagle finds himself unable to stay way from Carrie, their relationship begins to build and Stong Eagle gives Carrie far more than her own parents ever did in building self-respect and belief in herself. The plot of the story is almost spiritual as Carrie and Strong Eagle explore the differences between them and the attraction that refuses to be denied. This well-written novel touches one at a deep level and closes on a positive note. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
Enjoyed the story of Carrie and Strong Eagle. The differences in the lifestyles of the settlers in Montana and the Crow Indians was vast, yet the pull of these two characters’s hearts was unmistakable. My only complaint was that the ending did not go far enough; more was wanted, at least an epilogue! I received this book from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review.
