My clients at my vet clinic have always called me an animal whisperer. I’ve never questioned it. Until I started hearing monsters too.A man came in right at closing with a sick dog. The dog told me why he was sick and I was able to treat him. I had no idea his owner would kidnap me. I had no idea his owner had an entire dungeon of monsters he wanted me to treat. I’ve met a minotaur, a mysterious … treat. I’ve met a minotaur, a mysterious kraken, a phoenix, and this really massive spider.
I can hear them too. If monsters are real and I can talk to them, then what am I?

I really enjoyed this story. The GMC was first, sassy and has an open mind. Within the first chapter you can see who she is and it was great to see what she became. The characters were well written and the world building was well done as well. I, personally, can6waor for the next in the series.
This was a fast and easy read. Is it the most creative and well-written piece? … No, but was it an entertaining read for a couple of hours? … Yes. It’s a trilogy, and I’ve already downloaded book 2, so it’s got enough of a story hook to have pulled me in.
We meet River, our heroine, at her veterinary practice. She gets a last-minute emergency case, which turns out to be Cerberus. After figuring out what was wrong with him – through her animal talking powers – she gets kidnapped and taken to the Underworld by Hades, Cerberus’ owner.
Things have gone a bit pear-shaped down below with Demeter having kidnapped Hades’ wife Persephone and basically gone on a genocide gladiator mission against monsters by threatening Persephone’s life.
Hades grabs River to try to take care of some of the monsters from the gladiator fighting ring. By taking care of them and being able to talk to them, they may be able to figure out how to save Persephone and get Demeter out of the Underworld.
The Harem!
We have a harem of monsters here: a Kraken, a minotaur, a phoenix and a black widow. We learn about their pasts and how each of them relates to each other. They all have a fascination with River, so it’ll be interesting to see how they all come together
If you’re looking for a fast-paced adventure that has some Greek mythology thrown in this is one for you.
Such a fun series- 4 1/2 stars . River is able to speak to animals and has been forced to hid it. Working as a vet gives her the opportunity to help animals and use her gifts, but also puts her in the path of Hades and a battle she wanted nothing to do with. River finds herself kidnapped to the Underworld and helping the monsters. The monsters are diverse and interesting. All the characters you remember from Greek mythology mixed with Hell and Fae in mentions. The battle of good(ish) vs evil or at least the perception of good and evil goes throughout this series. Action, adventure, myths come to life and so much romance make this a great story.

Absolutely loved this story. Definitely recommend. The characters are amazing especially River. Storyline is fantastic. Like really good. Read this story in one day. Just couldn’t put down. This cover in front of book really drew me in. JB Trepagnier did an amazing job with that is story. Loved it!!!
River is a veterinarian who can talk to animals. One day a man shows up with his dog, Cerberus, and after she helps him he insists she come home with him to treat some other animals. The man turns out to be Hades, the dog is THE Cerberus-gatekeeper of the underworld, home is the Underworld, and the animals are a giant black widow spider, a minotaur, a phoenix and a kraken. Surprisingly, River is okay with all of this pretty quickly and can communicate with all the monsters, who are stuck in that form. Other gods are fighting against them and River soon allies with Hades and the monsters. I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
Boy this book was an attention grabber right from the first page.
The plot is set around Greek mythology that meets the modern world.
Be prepared for an absolutely fantastic journey as you follow this plot
that had me absolutely hooked with the suspense drama twists and turns
and some surprises as well.
I found it ended on a bit of a cliffhanger though. Looking forward to more books
in this series.

This author has done it yet again! This book captured me from the from the synopsis and didn’t let go until the very end. To be honest I’m still reeling from this book. Once again it’s written beautifully and flows very well making it a fast read. Wonderful characters. River is a very unique character who can speak to animals and used this gift to be a vet. Hades comes into the picture when he needs her help and kidnapped her. The monsters you then meet are both terrifying and awesome! I absolutely love how she brings Greek mythology to life right before your very eyes!! It’s great. This book has it all. Flirty banter to twists and turns that leaving you gasping.
This is a must read book! This book isn’t for the faint of heart. There is a big cliffhanger that leaves you needing more!! I need book two ASAP.
The first book in the My Beautiful Monsters series a well written story that kept me turning pages. I know this is a book I will read again. This is vet River and her Monster men Pavlina a giant black widow, Kimon a Minotaur, Tryphon a kraken, and Demos a phoenix who she meets when Hades, and Cerberus kidnap her. I would like to see a story on Hephaestus, and there was a surprise at the end. A book that is well worth reading. This was an amazing start to a new series! I loved the world building, mix of different mythologies, and the spin that JB put on it. I was hooked from the encounter with Hades, Cerberus, and River at her clinic and I couldn’t put it down!
River’s just your typical veterinarian except she can talk to animals and monsters. Her personality is feisty, determined, and caring for those in need. I loved that Hades wasn’t the typical bad guy and how twisted and evil Demeter was. Cerberus was protective of River and I loved that she could talk with him.
I think I liked all of the monsters equally, which is a first since I almost always have a favorite in a harem. Demos, a phoenix, was broody and cautious. Kimon, a minotaur, was sweet and sexy. Pavlina, a giant black widow, was flirty and fierce. Tryphon, a kraken, was bold and possessive. I actually really liked Hephaestus and I hope he becomes part of her harem also.
I enjoyed watching the mystery unfold of who River is, what powers she possesses, and who her father is. I loved the relationship that she was building with each monster and that she was defiant with Hades and couldn’t care less about the consequences.

Oh man, what a read. With shades of Persephone and influenced by Greek mythology, this was just what I didn’t know I wanted.
River is a great character -a vet that can speak to and understand animals. She’s kidnapped ala Persephone’s story and agrees to take care of the great legendary creatures of Greek mythology. And as the reader we get glimpses of these creatures, by way of her ability. Fantastic!
My 6th grade self squealed in delight, my adult self couldn’t stop reading and is so excited for future stories. A definite recommend.

Intense connections and insightful communication between animals, shifters and a young woman who is not a monster, but a valuable healer getting to know more about herself, her skills and those who desperately need her help

I love the intrigue that is put into these books. This author has definitely done another that grabs you and sucks you into the storyline before you know it.
You are a vet (animal doctor not military like me). You have unique ability. You can talk to animals and they can talk to you. Wait for it….. You are asked to treat an EMOROUS dog named Cerebus. Yu do so well with healing him that you are kidnapped to help other animals. Catch you guessed it by the dog’s name. You are kidnapped by Hades and taken to his real to help his ‘animal’, which we know as monsters.
But are they really monsters? What are they made to do that made them monsters? Is that their free will? Read for an entertaining story about monsters.
Easy to read, first in new series. Some rollover of characters from previous series but will be fun to read also. Has ending that although not a ’cliffhanger’, has left some business unfinished and draws you into waiting for the next book.
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
I can’t believe this is my first JB Trepagnier read! If you love anything related to Greek Mythology this book’s for you. Hades sure has his hands full with River. I just loved and cracked up at how she settled her issues with him for her kidnapping. You need to read it to find out thought, you won’t regret it. I devoured this book in one sitting. Loved this read and can’t wait to pick up book 2.

All her life River has wondered what makes her different from everyone else until she gets kidnapped by Hades, much like the myth of Persephone. Overnight she goes from average human vet, if being able to talk to animals is normal, to caretaker for the monsters of legends. We get peeks into each monsters head here and there giving us a unique look into each of them while in the passenger seat of River’s journey in the Underworld. The world was given a good amount of building to make it unique considering Greek mythology is so well known with a great twist that allows for plenty of expansion of the series and/or world. I can’t wait to see where River’s discovery of her heritage and the drama of the Underworld she got mixed up in goes.

This was a kick ass story I didn’t see any of these turns coming. It was so cool how it interlocks with another series to. This was a really fun read I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Good book with a very diverse cast of characters and a storyline that keeps you interested as the relationships between the characters develop.
