Five days after Owen Zastava Pitt pushed his insufferable boss out of a fourteenth story window, he woke up in the hospital with a scarred face, an unbelievable memory, and a job offer. It turns out that monsters are real. All the things from myth, legend, and B-movies are out there, waiting in the shadows. Officially secret, some of them are evil, and some are just hungry. On the other side are … side are the people who kill monsters for a living. Monster Hunter International is the premier eradication company in the business. And now Owen is their newest recruit.
It’s actually a pretty sweet gig, except for one little problem. An ancient entity known as the Cursed One has returned to settle a centuries old vendetta. Should the Cursed One succeed, it means the end of the world, and MHI is the only thing standing in his way. With the clock ticking towards Armageddon, Owen finds himself trapped between legions of undead minions, belligerent federal agents, a cryptic ghost who has taken up residence inside his head, and the cursed family of the woman he loves.
Business is good . . .
Welcome to Monster Hunter International.

Fun read. So much that I’ve re-read it several times already (what can I say, I’m a geek)!!!!
Everything I wanted in a fun urban fantasy novel. I appreciate how the author takes time to build the world and characters. And my gosh the length of each book is awesome!
Definitely top five urban fantasy authors for me.
Laffs, action, monsters, and private contractors with lots of guns–Correia delivers it all. This book and the others in this series have been huge hits in the military and gun communities. I enjoy the heck out of them.
Pur Sci-Fi, but so good. I came across this book in a bargain bin at the local bookstore and bought it. This whole series is action packed. A definite recommendation for anyone who loves werewolves, trolls and fully automatic guns. GREAT READ!!
This is a fun series & I think it would make a great movie.
What a great series. The writing gets better with each book. So entertaining.
Ever wonder what it would be like to find out that monsters are not only real, but here in your everyday, mundane world? Pick up this series and find out. Not your average fae world or a fantasy world, but the everyday, driving down the road to work world, grab a burger at your favorite fast food place and discover the joys of your boss, not just being his normal grumpy self but a werewolf. Not something most people are going to be prepared for.
Larry Correia brings this everyday, mundane world to life and drives a hard-action storyline with all the problems that come with it. Guns blaze, people die, and getting to the end is a race of turning pages and lack of sleep. Realism and Fantasy can mix and Larry Correia is a Master at it.
What a wild ride! This was a fun read from cover to cover. If the idea of using an armory’s worth of modern weaponry against hordes of the evil undead tickles your fancy, this book is for you. I enjoyed the easy camaraderie among the special ops monster hunters, and I adored the Earl Harbinger character. Earl’s address to the troops before the final battle was a classic. It was also refreshing to read a story where no one felt obligated to give the villains sympathetic backstories. Blowing up the bad guy was fully justified every time.
One of my favorite action-packed thrill rides ever. Read this book. You will love it.
If you like your urban fantasy with lots of gunfire and brutal combats between heroes and monsters, you’re definitely going to want to read Monster Hunter International. Owen Pitt is trying to settle into life as a simple accountant when his supervisor turns into a werewolf and tries to eat him. Pitt fights back and surprisingly, without silver weapons, not only survives but kills the creature. This brings him to the attention of not only our unfriendly government which considers keeping the secret that monsters exist more important than its citizens lives, but to a private outfit called Monster Hunter International which recruits Pitt to join their ranks.
What follows is a rollicking ride through the twisted mind of Larry Correia. There are vampires, gargoyles, insectoid monsters, wights, ghostly figures, and crazy cursed beings galore all set in a fabulously thought-out alternate earth. The characters are beautifully drawn and the tension grows from chapter to chapter toward an absolutely fantastic ending.
If you’ve been wishing for a few more guns in your urban fantasy, Monster Hunter International is the book for you.
A fun ride that kept me turning the pages on a lazy Sunday, and then buying book 2 as soon as I finished.
All of the Monster Hunter International books are awesome. I have recommended them to all my friends and colleagues. If you have an imagination and enjoy a good story, MHI is a must read.
This. Book. Was. Hilarious. Monster Hunter International just won 2020. Hands down.
When Owen Pitt gets attacked by his boss, who happens to be a werewolf, he is thrown into a world he had never known existed, a world where monsters exist. After killing the werewolf with his bare hands, he is recruited into MHI, or Monster Hunter International. Between his hilarious quips, getting his butt handed to him on more than one occasion, and the best action scenes I have ever read, I am blown away by this book.
Getting into the mind of Owen was highly amusing and had me cracking up every other page. The writing flows so incredibly well. The book has the most incredible fight scenes. The monsters were terrifying. As in it takes at least a hundred bullets to put one monster down. Perhaps a few grenades. And don’t get me started on master vampires…
Thank you, Larry Correia, for writing such an amazing book. You are now one of my favorite authors, and I can’t wait to read more!
Fans of the Forgotten Realms and Dungeons and Dragons books will recall certain characters who made a dangerous living hunting dragons and such in order to sell the carcasses, like fur trappers of the Canadian north. The hunters of the corporation of Monster Hunters International is the spiritual descendants of those monster slayers, saving civilians and the world with every hunt and making good money doing it. This is a lot more challenging and steady work than the usual mercenary gig – there will never be a shortage of monsters, but the risk! These hunters earn their pay, and then some!
I enjoyed the different approach to monsters and the overall mystery of the book.
It is funny and the main character loves guns
This series is like if Harry Dresden started power lifting, did a line of coke and visited the Punisher for some new toys before going on safari. It’s fast-paced, creepy and has little moments of hilarity to break up the chaos. Larry Correia really crafted something glorious with this series.
The Monster Hunter International series is simply one of the best, if not the best, Urban Fantasy series of all time.
Theese books give me an adrenalin rush so well told they keep me on the edge of my seat
One of the best books I’ve read in a LONG time! I love the characters and the world he’s created with all of the awesome monsters you know and love!
