“Jackson’s characters and their heart-wrenching story linger long after the final page, urging readers to advocate for those who are disenfranchised and forgotten by society and the system.” (Publishers Weekly, “An Anti-Racist Children’s and YA Reading List”)
From the critically acclaimed author of Allegedly, Tiffany D. Jackson, comes a gripping novel about the mystery of one teenage girl’s … gripping novel about the mystery of one teenage girl’s disappearance and the traumatic effects of the truth.
Monday Charles is missing, and only Claudia seems to notice. Claudia and Monday have always been inseparable—more sisters than friends. So when Monday doesn’t turn up for the first day of school, Claudia’s worried.
When she doesn’t show for the second day, or second week, Claudia knows that something is wrong. Monday wouldn’t just leave her to endure tests and bullies alone. Not after last year’s rumors and not with her grades on the line. Now Claudia needs her best—and only—friend more than ever. But Monday’s mother refuses to give Claudia a straight answer, and Monday’s sister April is even less help.
As Claudia digs deeper into her friend’s disappearance, she discovers that no one seems to remember the last time they saw Monday. How can a teenage girl just vanish without anyone noticing that she’s gone?

A mesmerizing, punch-in-the-gut story about the power of friendship and the horrors hiding right in front of us.
Great suspense novel!
Tiffany Jackson does it again. This book grabs you from the first and holds your heart until you get to the surprising ending. I laughed and cried and finished in two days. Monday will stay with you long after you finish the book.
This could very well be my favorite book of 2018. I started out listening to the audio book, but my commute isn’t long enough, so I checked out the paper book, because I couldn’t stand waiting for my next trip to hear more of the story. Monday’s Not Coming, for me, is the definition of a page turner. I never wanted to put it down, and I definitely found myself getting lost in the story. Ms. Jackson has written another book, called Allegedly, and I’m very much looking forward to reading that one, as well.
This book gutted me in the best way. Tiffany D. Jackson has such a way with words. Her prose is delectable, gripping, and gorgeous. I devoured this book, and it immediately became one of my all-time favorites.
I listened to the audiobook.
Compelling. Loved the characters and the settings were mint. Beautifully written and gripping. I read the book in its entirety in two days. Totally worth the under eye bags.
I want to first say what amazing read. Just like Tiffany first novel I wasn’t disappointed with this book. This book did take me longer to read. I didn’t want to rush the reading I wanted to enjoy this story and feel the main character feelings towards her friend. This book has some really tough parts that need to be spoken about more when there is abuse in the homes. I know some reviews didn’t like the jumps from present to past. But I enjoyed that because i got to read and see how these two best friends were with each other and they helped one another. Even if one them didn’t share everything that was going in her home. Very touching book. And highly recommend this book and Tiffany first novel. I love reading Tiffany books the way she tells these characters story is amazing. And cant wait for more book/ stories from this author.
About this book:

Claudia starts finding ways to help find her friend because she feels something is very wrong with her friend and missing. Past we get to see Monday and Claudia how they have a special friendship and how they help each other. Present Claudia and her parents learn that Claudia a learning disability. How Claudia learns to deal with it. But with all this going on Claudia at the end is faced with something else and it very sad. How she dealt with it and how everyone around her helps and try’s to support Claudia.
Lastly:
This book touches on things that need to be spoken more of. I know that it opened my eyes more. That we must listen to our kids and help them when they feel hurt or something is wrong. I know that we may not want to get involved with others because we feel like its not our business. But we can change things. Again Highly recommended anything this author writes.
I did not enjoy this book at all.
**spoiler alert**
For the most part I really enjoyed this book, but I think it fell a little short of all the hype I’ve heard about it. I think the overall story does a fantastic job in highlighting the ways in which Black lives, especially Black women’s and children’s lives, are overlooked and not seen as a priority. Throughout the entire novel Monday’s disappearance was only a priority to Claudia. While some of this may have been because Claudia forgot about Monday’s death and two years had really gone by, it seemed apparent that her disappearance was not prioritized even when it had happened. Additionally, I think it’s important to have more characters with diverse struggles. The fact that Claudia had dyslexia added a lot to the story and I feel like it is essential that young adults have books where they can see themselves in the characters. The twist that Claudia actually forgot Monday’s death was interesting and unique.
A tough, heart-wrenching, necessary book.
I think that this is awesome. In the beginning, I thought that I could predict the ending. boy was I wrong. This book is definitely a book to read.
I grabbed this in Google Books last year, and it’s a shame I hadn’t gotten to read it before now. This is my first book by Jackson, and I keep seeing people recommend Allegedly. You can bet I’m going to grab that as soon as I finish this review, because, Wow!
There is something Jackson writes about that I didn’t see people comment on in the 10ish reviews I skimmed before writing this. That was people’s belief that they shouldn’t step in when another woman is getting abused by her significant other. We need to stop. 19 years after I helped my neighbor, whom I only knew in passing in the hallway, get away from her abusive boyfriend, and we still talk, even though I am states away now. Women need to stick together, and if one is reaching out, don’t hesitate. It’s incredibly hard for people to get out of abusive relationships, they need all the help you can get.
Moving on, I loved Claudia for so many things. Her naivety is dangerously endearing, but she’s insecure, she’s beautiful, and her inner monologue and the way she describes the people in her life are fantastic. She’s incredibly talented and I love that she had dance as an outlet because she spent so much time beating herself up over too much in her life. Jackson’s writing is beautiful, richly descriptive, and heartbreakingly true. Yes, the timeline jumped around a bit, but it’s easy to get used to, and it puts the story together so well, I can’t imagine it written another way. Nicely done.
I liked this book very much. The world revealed in this book exists. It doesn’t have to.
Even though you think you know how it will end, there are still surprises. Excellent!
Wow, this book kept my attention. It’s a book that makes you think? How did this happen? how does a teenage girl go missing for so long? IF you are going to read this AI would keep notes on the chapter times. It’s quite confusing and I couldn’t keep track of where I was in the time line. Everyone needs a friend like Claudia. Now I have a big ole book hangover.
I could really relate to this story, being a DC native myself. I though this book was a tragic reality effectively displaying how young black girls can often be overlooked in the system. It was entertaining and thought provoking.
Ah, it’s so so good! By the very end, it was a bit predictable for me, but truly an amazing read.
Played on past news headlines
Monday’s Not Coming is truly a captivating novel. I recommend this book because you see what is going on from a teenagers point of view in this tragic time of her trying to find her friend.
