Mommy Loves The Doggy Doctor by Deb Kastner is a wonderful sweet heartwarming story. Gweeny has been in a wheelchair since an ATV accident that killed her father. She wants to make her mom Ashley happy again and is looking for a husband for her mom. Luke, a vet and his mom meet Gweeny and Ashley at a nursing home with puppies and give a puppy to Gweeny plus vet services and training. This is a adorable sweet story an I highly recommend reading this book. I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review of it.
“Mommy Loves the Doggy Doctor” by Deb Kastner
I enjoyed my time with the characters in this cute, sweet, clean, contemporary romance. You would already have read the blurb, so I will not do a rerun of that. You are here wondering if you will like this story. Well, all I can say is that I did.. I read it in one day. Only putting down when absolutely necessary… life does interfere with what we’d rather be doing, from time to time. I was gifted a copy of this story… but I still really, really liked it. Hope you will like it, too!
It follows one on my favorite tropes––the main characters fall in love against they will.
There’s no major “breaking down the walls around their heart” kinda moment. Love just kinda sneaks in.
A tragic ATV accident took the life of Ashley Alvine’s husband and put her daughter Gwenny in a wheelchair. Gwenny wants a Dalmatian puppy and Alvine lets her have Pudgy, veterinarian Luke Bryant says he will pay to have the Pudgy become a service dog to Gwenny. A book I enjoyed reading. I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Mommy Loves the Doggy Doctor, the sixth installment from the Mommy’s Little Matchmakers series, is my favorite of the series. It started off heart breaking but turned into a fun, cute, sweet and delightful read! I loved it!
5 stars.
I received this book from the publisher, but was not required to write a review. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
This is such a sweet story. It has a widowed mother, a special needs daughter, a doggy doctor and a dog and a HEA ending. Oh, yeah. It has a great storyline!
Luke is a veterinarian who meets Ashley and her daughter at an assisted living facility. Luke and his mother are visiting his father (who suffers from dementia) with a litter of Dalmatian pups in an effort to establish a connection. Ashley and her daughter Gwenny drop in at this facility where they often visit. Gwenny makes friends with one of the puppies and end of taking Pudgy home. From there, the Luke and his mother become an integral part of Ashley’s and Gwenny’s lives.
The author writes well and delivers a great book. She also includes a life lesson … Gwenny is a very capable child, and not written as a “disabled” person. Instead, she has written a book featuring a child who achieves her dreams “differently”. KUDOS to the author!
This is my first book by Deb Kastner and I really enjoyed it. This is the last book in the Mommy’s Little Matchmaker series, but it was a great ending. This book features Ashley, her daughter, Gwenny, and Luke. Gwenny is in a wheelchair, after being in an ATV accident, which killed her father. On one of their visits to the nursing home, the Bryant’s are there with a litter of puppies. Luke and his mom, Ruth, gift Pudgy to Gwenny. I won’t leave any spoilers, but I will say this is one very special story.
Such a sweet love story! With a cute 7yo girl and an adorable puppy.
Gwenny is a cute 7yo girl. She’s the star of this book. No, dog Pudgy was! No, vet Luke was! No, Granny Ruth was! You see how I loved all the characters. I loved Ashley too, but she was maybe a bit too serious, lethargic even. Although there is a very good reason for that: two years ago she lost her husband in an accident and in that same accident, Gwenny became paralyzed from the waist down. Now suddenly Ashley is a single mom with a disabled kid and sky-high hospital bills.
Gwenny is SUCH a great kid! And so resilient. A go-getter. She handles things way better than her mom. She stays positive and sees possibilities where Ashley can only see the things she CAN’T do anymore. Ashley actually lets that hold her back. I could totally, fully understand that, but still, she needed to learn how to have some fun too.
Ashley is afraid of dogs. Gwenny would really like to have a dog. When they meet Luke, and dog Pudgy, there is only one way the story will go. Oh, so sweet!!!
I loved Luke: a compassionate man who loves animals and children – what’s NOT to love? And he’s handsome too, not in that look-at-me-I-work-out-way but in a gentle way. And the puppy was cute beyond belief.
A warm and inviting story, with fun moments (I smiled a lot) but also some depth. There’s attention to some very serious subjects, but in a non-heavy, lighthearted way. I loved it. And it moved me! I even shed a few tears…
The prologue and epilogue are from Gwenny’s POV (the rest of the book dual POV Ashley and Luke) and it was very well done, in a way that it actually seemed to come from a 7yo girl. They all had their own, different voice. A worthy last book in this series. Completely standalone BTW.
A single work at home mom, a disabled daughter, a grandmother to the doggy doctor, the doggy doctor and a Dalmatian puppy make a wonderful mix for this delightful story.
I think I’ve just lost my heart. It takes a truly exquisite story to make it’s way under your skin. Mommy Loves the Doggy Doctor was that story for me. Deb Kastner found beauty in a heartbreaking situation. Tragedy cost Ashley the love of her life, but hope gave her the courage to face the challenges life left behind. With a disabled daughter and a broken heart, life may not be easy, but love always finds a way to heal the cracks that pain has left behind. In this case, all it takes is a special little girl and her irresistible puppy to have this mother changing her tune.
What kind of mischief can a puppy, a young girl in a wheelchair, and a grandmother make? Can they get a woman who is heart broken over the lose of her husband and a guy who has sworn off getting attached together? Read to find out. This was a very enjoyable and easy read. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Mommy Loves the Doggy Doctor is a wonderful, heart warming story. I am a sucker for anything dog but Pudgy really has a major part in this book. With wonderful characters, a shy vet, a young girl not defined by her wheelchair, a mother widowed in the accident that paralyzed her daughter, and a mother who loves her shy son, this is a wonderful story about growing past the hurts and opening up to new chances at love. The story is well written and well paced. I did not get all my chores done since I could not put the book down!
Bittersweet story with losses, love, laughter, and happiness all rolled up into an outstandingly written book! Intriguing characters interacting with love sparkling around. Nothing is better than a happy ending. The was the best one yet in this wonderful series!
A cute story that could have been so sad but was not. Gwenny Alvine just brings out the best in everyone, in spite of the fact that an ATV accident killed her father and left her paralyzed from the waist down. Gwenny decides that just like her school friends she needs to find a husband for her mom so her mom can be happy again. I loved that all of this was done through a cute puppy named Pudgy, who later becomes a service dog for Gwenny. Kids, puppies, a cute, single veterinarian, a single mom, and fun Grandma Ruth make you fall in love with this fun story in this great series. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
This was a sweet second chance at love romance. Ashley lost her husband and her daughter Gwenny lost the ability to walk in an ATV accident. Dr. Luke lost his girlfriend and her son when he proposed and she broke up with him. So they both were a little gun shy about entering into a romantic relationship again. But a cute Dalmatian puppy named Pudgy who stole Gwenny’s heart and later Ashley and Luke’s brought them together. There was plenty of humor and sweet romance in this story. I loved the nicknames Ashley came up with for Pudgy. Gweeny was so positive despite everything she had to put up with stuck in a wheelchair. I thought it was great that Luke worked with them to help turn Pudgy into Gwenny’s service dog. I loved the little handicapped chihuahua that Luke rescued and made the clinic mascot.
This is one of those reads that will just completely melt your heart. It is a beautiful, funny, emotional, heartbreaking and impossibly sweet romance. Ashley and Luke made an amazing couple. She was so strong and loving and he was caring, charming and quite simply a really good guy. Ashley’s daughter, Gwenny was absolutely adorable and incredibly precious. Add Pudgy the puppy into the mix and I do honestly believe that your heart doesn’t stand a chance.
I have loved all the books in this series. They can be read alone or in any order. A couple of them do refer back to characters in the book before, but not enough to spoil anything in the reading. They are good clean, down to earth and realistic romance reads.
I received an ARC and I am voluntarily giving my review.
Cute story about a handicapped girl who plays matchmaker for her mom and the animal doctor who is training her new pup. I received an ARC of this book.
This book turns preconceived notions on their heads, and it’s a great conclusion to this series. As the widowed mother of a wheelchair-bound daughter, Ashley is focused on being strong for Gwenny and doesn’t see her way to a relationship. Luke is a veterinarian that was badly burnt in a relationship with another single mother, and has misgivings about getting involved with Gwenny and Ashley. Between his mother and Ashley’s daughter, however, the two have no chance of avoiding this, and Pudgy the dalmatian adds the sweetest touch at the end of the book. This is a very sweet read.
Wonderfully funny!
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
What a wonderful story. I was delighted to see that Ms. Kastner wrote a story for this series. I adore her work. She is amazing in her storytelling. The scenes are fantastic and I can see them being played out in my mind. The plot is free-flowing. The conversation between the characters is enchanting. I truly laughed out loud several times while reading this story. At first, I was heartbroken over the tragedy that little Gwenny had gone through years prior to this story. I have never been through what she and her mother, Ashley, had but the way the story is written, I could so easily identify with the characters.
This story is written in my favorite dual POV. It is through this that I was able to so readily identify with Ashley’s pain. Also I adored Dr. Luke. He is such a charmer because he doesn’t work at it. He is incredibly shy. What a refreshing change. Going on Ashley’s and Dr. Luke’s HEA journey was an absolute best way to spend a few hours. I guess I could call it a bookcation!!!
I highly recommend this story. All of the books in this series are wonderful but this one is especially touching. I would definitely read this one more than once.
