Beloved author Kasie West once again delivers a witty, lighthearted romance that will charm her legions of fans and is perfect for readers of Jenny Han and Huntley Fitzpatrick. At sixteen, Hadley Moore knows exactly who she is—a swimmer who will earn a scholarship to college. Totally worth all the hard work, even if her aching shoulders don’t agree. So when a guy dressed as Hollywood’s latest … dressed as Hollywood’s latest action hero, Heath Hall, crashes her swim meet, she isn’t amused. Instead, she’s determined to make sure he doesn’t bother her again. Only she’s not sure exactly who he is.
The swim meet isn’t the first event the imposter has interrupted, but a little digging turns up a surprising number of people who could be Heath Hall, including Hadley’s ex-boyfriend and her best friend’s crush. She soon finds herself getting caught up in the mysterious world of the fake Heath Hall.
As Hadley gets closer to uncovering the masked boy’s identity, she also discovers some uncomfortable truths about herself—like she might resent the long shadow her late brother has cast over her family, that she isn’t as happy as she pretends to be with her life choices…and that she’s falling for the last guy she ever thought she would like.

There’s something utterly joyous about reading a Kasie West book at any time of the year, but MOMENT OF TRUTH was especially fun to read this month. No one can match Kasie for flirty banter, swoony romance, and heartwarming character journeys. And while I always fall in love with her heroes–the love interest in this book is so so good–Hadley might be my new favorite heroine of hers, and that’s saying something. I related so much to her drive for perfection, and my heart broke for the reason behind it. I always end up smiling and happy when I read Kasie’s books, but this one made me cry too and I think that’s why I love it so much.
This book was so unique, I can’t recall reading a story quite like it before. I loved that I didn’t know who it would end up being and I was surprised with every turn of the page. Kasie is brilliant, I could read twenty more books from her and never tire of her writing.
This starts out a little slow, with the mystery keeping you going (and also Kasie West’s reputation for amazing books), but the romance payoff at the end was so satisfying and funny that I kept startling my husband when I’d suddenly laugh. It was also serious in parts, with interesting dimension to the characters. I’ve started and stopped several books since that just couldn’t quite match up to this.
Totally enjoyed this . Absolutely love Hadley, Jackson, and the many side characters. The wonderful friendship between Hadley and Emmie was sweet. There was a real mystery and some deep family issues underlying the entire storyline as well as just the typical issues and other fears of adolescence. Also the narration was spot on in the Audible version! Highly recommended.
How many 16 year olds know exactly what they want in life? My guess is not a ton, but Hadley sure does. When a masked action hero crashes her swim meet, she finds herself smack in the middle of a mystery that won’t leave her alone.
I loved the dangling mystery element and the way Hadley sets out to solve it, but Kasie West is a genius at allowing her characters to struggle and grow. This coming-of-age story tugs at the heartstrings and takes the reader on a delightful journey of self-discovery, as the characters are brought to life.
I really enjoyed this book and the way it all came together in both expected and unexpected ways.
Content: mild romance
I have to admit I wasn’t a big fan of the first two books in the Love, Life, and the List series (they are companion standalones, each one can be read on it’s own!) I just adored this one. Kasie West really knocked it out of the park.
Hadley Moore is living life in the shadow of her brother- a brother she never even met because he died before she was born. She spends most of her time in the school’s pool, trying to perfect her strokes so she can earn a scholarship to college.
When an infamous prankster crashes one of her meets, Hadley is determined to figure out who he is once and for all. But it’s not so easy. Especially when the annoying, never serious, too cute for his own good Jackson makes it a mission to become friends with her.
The adorable romance in this book will make you smile. Many sweet moments that will make you swoon. And in true Kasie West fashion, there is strong friendship and an awesome side kick. My favorite part is Hadley’s growth through out the book, and her relationship with her parents.
If you are looking for a cute book that will tug on the heart strings a bit, this is one for you!
