This single parent dating experiment is about to go viral… ready and I’m dead set on experimenting on my new neighbor, the single mom who does the weirdest things.
But my experiment goes awry in unexplainable ways…
Lily-Marie
When dating apps fail me spectacularly, I decide to go old school and use a 1950s magazine I dug up at a yard sale to help find Mr. Right.
Fifty Ways to Find a Husband.
Sounds legit.
Problem is, my new neighbor, Mr. Science Professor, keeps blocking my attempts. And keeps losing his shirt. How does a book nerd have so many muscles anyway? Thing is, my kids like his son and we start spending a lot of time together, which is distracting me from my ultimate goal: to find a husband to sweep me off my feet and be a good father to my kids.
Things get comical quick when my best friend records everything in her daily newspaper column. I can’t help but wonder if single moms like me can actually catch a husband. Or will this Mom-Com go viral as an epic train wreck?

I’m finding that my reaction to this book is a bit difficult to put into words. These are quirky, funny characters dealing with some real-world situations that are all too familiar to some of us and they’re handling them with their senses of humor intact. I adored Jameson. It’s probably the nerd-girl in me that resonated so fully with the socially awkward professor, but he just did it for me. I started out loving Lily-Marie, but then when I learned that some of her actions were specifically to hurt or embarrass Jameson, I didn’t like her so much. That made it very hard for me to stay invested in their happily ever after. Once she got her head screwed back on straight, it was easier but by then she’d broken trust with me and I was carrying a bit of a grudge. I laughed long and hard at the crazy situations this pair landed themselves in, and the kids were utterly priceless. Their ending is picture perfect.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
Hysterical and heartwarming romantic comedy. I have never read a story like this and it is utterly brilliant. Perfect characters and a storyline that while a bit predictable, is written perfectly. One that will be remembered for a long time to come. I laughed so hard at the bizarre behavior of Jameson and Lily-Marie while falling in love with them. What kept coming to mind was June Cleaver and the 1950s meets the modern era. This is a must read for those wanting laughs and ways to either find or keep your Prince Charming.
This book was fantastic! I loved how the characters where dealing with real life things and also had a sense of humor about it. It made the book much more realistic and not so much of a fairytale.
I will definitely be reading more books by Marika Ray!
Oh my goodness this book was hilarious and wonderful and all the things I LOVE about Rom Com’s. This was my first read from Marika Ray but it definitely won’t be my last. All the feels! My face hurts from smiling & laughing…&& all the SWOON had me walking around with heart eyes …Seriously SO GOOD! If you love Rom Com’s then I definitely recommend this read; and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I was fortunate to receive this book as ARC. Loved this story. It was a romantic comedy that I could not put down. Loved the way it ended. Marika has done it again – love her books – go get this !
I found Mom-Com to overall be a cute read, it had me laughing at times. At times I felt like the chemistry between Lily_Marie and Jameson just wasnt there, yet at other times it was. For me I would rate the book at a 3.5, but I am sure others would love it and give it much higher stars which is why its good not everyone likes the same thing.
I thought that this book was so good. This opposites attract romance totally melted my heart. The plot was cute and fun. Lily-Marie and Jameson were truly priceless characters. Jameson was a charming character. Brilliant, shy and often clueless, I don’t think he could have been any more swoon worthy. Lily-Marie was a combination of quirky and relatable. She has the heart of a true believer in fairytales and Princes but carries the baggage of being a single mother of two. I absolutely loved this laugh out loud, steamy, heart melting read.
I really enjoyed this book. I always love a book that can make me actually laugh out loud. The characters in this story had such great senses of humor and I do love it when people are able to insert humor into real life situations. All of these characters were a bit quirky which to me made them all that more relatable.
I will say that at the start of this story i truly loved Lily-Marie but I didn’t like that she did certain things to deliberately hurt and or embarrass Jameson. That made me a bit upset with her.
This was my first Marika Ray but but it most defiantly will not be my last. Her writing in this book was really good and I can not wait to get my hands on some of her other books.
This book was fantastic. I laughed so much I kept getting funny looks. It was an absolutely fantastic story that I enjoyed immensely. The characters were very likeable and kept me interested. An absolute must read.
This book was so much fun to read and will have you in stitches. Funny and you’ll fall in love with Lily-Marie. She’s an adorable character that is so much fun. I’d love for her to be my neighbor. She and her neighbor, Jameson are complete opposites and you know what they say about opposites. They attract! A great read that I read as an arc and voluntarily chose to review. Five stars for sure.
Oh, I love this book! I can say I have never had the pleasure of coming across a book like this. Finally, a premise I haven’t ever read! Also, Marika Ray is a new author for me. I will have to check out more from her because this book thoroughly entertained me. So much so that I could not put this book down and read it in one sitting. Even better is there will be another book featuring the heroine’s best friend.
So, I love everything about this book. Every aspect. While yes, it became a little predictable, I did not mind. Especially while I knew something funny was about to happen, I wasn’t sure exactly what is was. There are some totally cringe-worthy moments that forced second hand embarrassment on me and I loved every minute. Unfortunately, because this book was pretty fast-paced, I felt like it was over too soon. I needed more! Both H/h were the epitome of awkward and endearing characters. Even the secondary characters made this book more likable.
Jameson and Lily-Marie were so adorable. I couldn’t stop laughing at their behavior. I can promise you this book is lighthearted and enjoyable. I can also promise you laughter and the most amazing grand gesture. Our hero may be awkward and clueless when it comes to romance but he was truly one of the most endearing characters I have ever had the pleasure of reading about.
I definitely recommend this romantic comedy. It’s a well-written, fast-paced entertaining read!
This is my honest on unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂
What a unique concept! This author blended fantasy, reality and a back to the past concept with an modern twist and it all worked! If that wasn’t enough she took very really issues facing our society today made it comical, a little sad, relevant and entertaining. And if that wasn’t enough she showed us a world through a child’s eyes. Also brought forth an issue we all deal with at one time or another, our self confidence and are we enough? How do others see us or how do we think others see us, and not being able to see the forest for the trees. And that’s enough about that. For the actual story and details you have to read the book.
I wasn’t really sure what I was going to read in this here little story but I was so glad I did. It’s quirky, sweet, funny, tender, charming…really charming and hot! Yeah it may take a little bit but the temperature rises. The anticipation is well worth the wait. Really that’s just a bonus to what you get out of this story. Sometimes you get the most out of the little things. Well as they say, “Good things come in small packages”. This is a quick read, really it flies by fast and you get so much out of it, if you’re looking for it. Or you can just enjoy it for what it is.
This series is very different from the author’s previous books that I’ve read and I can’t wait to see what is coming in the future. To the author I say, you certainly know how to weave a tale and make fantasy into modern reality and make it believable, funny, poignant and entertaining.
This is my first book by this author and it definitely won’t be my last. I really enjoyed how this book developed. The story was entertaining, sweet and simple, let’s not forget very cute. I feel like reading it over again. Definitely recommended.
Mom-Com is the first book I’ve read from this author, and I got to say she has a new reader. I enjoyed the story, and how it progressed, the comical aspects had me laughing at times. The characters were likeable and so good for eachother. Their son’s only added to the story. So entertaining!
Funny and cute this book with make you smile. Single mom and the sexy nerdy neighbor. I can’t say enough good things about this book, buy it, read it, you won’t regret it.
This book.
1. What a great premise – they are BOTH using Jameson’s grandma’s old advice column to try to score a husband or prove love doesn’t exist. And they are both wrong AND right.
2. This book is so freaking funny. I snort-laughed a few too many times!!! I swear they think things I would think!
3. The characters were so relatable! Jameson is a little nerdy, and has trouble saying the right things. Lily-Marie is a single mom, struggling to believe she wasn’t returned, damaged goods. And it’s everything a 30-something can relate to.
4. The HEAT when it came! Oh my word! So good!!!
5. The black moment was small and not horribly long, which I’m thankful for. Angst isn’t my favorite. This was just long enough to wonder what might happen.
6. The Grand Gesture and the HEA. Oh. My. Swoon. I teared up. So many times. Jameson is so perfect. This, right here: “I needed to listen to her, fully understand what she needed in a partner, and then be that partner.” Sigh. Swoon. Love.
I’ll be going back and reading the first in the series, and waiting impatiently for the third!!!
I was given a free ARC of this book, and am giving my honest opinion.
Cute. Both trying to find a spouse based on an article written by grandma. Loved it
A funny, sweet, entertaining book. I enjoyed Lily-Marie and Jameson’s story.
Both single parents, living next door to each other, one looking for Prince Charming the other not believing in love. They were destined to cross paths. But would their be love for them? Especially with one not believing in it.
4.5/5
Shawn wasn’t your forever, but your forever is out there somewhere. I just know it. – Gabby
Lily-Marie is despondent. Her one and only, Shawn, had dumped her. Her, the mother of his two children; discarded like worn out shoes. Lily-Marie had always dreamed of a white dress and a sparkling ring, but it had never happened. Trying to “put herself out there” for two years and date after date has been a dismal failure. Either the guys were losers or cheating liars. But Gabby, her BFF, kept encouraging her. Then Lily-Marie found an old Prevention magazine at a garage sale, and the title caught her attention….
Newly divorced, Jameson and his 8-year-old son Stein moved in next door to Lily-Marie and her children. Jameson thinks she’s a scatterbrain and flighty with no common sense. But still… rather attractive. Jameson has a conversation with his son about love, and he decides to conduct an experiment to prove romantic love doesn’t exist. After all, he’s a scientist, right? The thought leaves as he readies himself to begin his new career in his new position of the head of the science department. Then he receives a phone call and an email from his father. The email attachment gets the wheels spinning once again… what if? What if he could devise an experiment that would PROVE romantic love didn’t exist… what if?
“In life, there were those things that were believed without thought or speculation. My soul remembered. My soul knew. And now my brain just had to catch up. The real declaration of love wasn’t in the words, but in the listening, in the doing. I needed to listen to her, fully understand what she needed in a partner, and then be that partner. Not because I needed her. But because she needed me. Because I wanted to be the man she deserved.” – Jameson
What a hoot! Verbal miscues, fumbling advances, and misunderstandings make this a fun and fascinating read.
This book was so light and romantic! It also had me laughing!!! A real good read to keep a smile on your face!
