This single parent dating experiment is about to go viral… ready and I’m dead set on experimenting on my new neighbor, the single mom who does the weirdest things.
But my experiment goes awry in unexplainable ways…
Lily-Marie
When dating apps fail me spectacularly, I decide to go old school and use a 1950s magazine I dug up at a yard sale to help find Mr. Right.
Fifty Ways to Find a Husband.
Sounds legit.
Problem is, my new neighbor, Mr. Science Professor, keeps blocking my attempts. And keeps losing his shirt. How does a book nerd have so many muscles anyway? Thing is, my kids like his son and we start spending a lot of time together, which is distracting me from my ultimate goal: to find a husband to sweep me off my feet and be a good father to my kids.
Things get comical quick when my best friend records everything in her daily newspaper column. I can’t help but wonder if single moms like me can actually catch a husband. Or will this Mom-Com go viral as an epic train wreck?

Mom-com is a cute, fast paced, sweet romance. A handsome, awkward and quirky hero. With a side of growly alpha. Strong, adorable single mom as the heroine. This story moves quickly and is a feel good romance.
The story was cute and I had a few laughs. It was a good light read. I love stories of couples accidentally falling in love with each other.
The reason why I am giving it three stars is the main male character and his experiment. Some of his inner dialogue doesn’t sound like something coming from a science professor. It sounded out of character to me. Also, I felt like some background as to why he is divorced wasn’t established and which I believed should have made explain why he doesn’t believe in romantic love.
The female main character, on the other hand, was funny and really likeable, someone that I’d like to be my friend. Her antics were a hoot.
Mom-Com has so many laugh out loud moments. Lily-Marie and Jameson are complete opposites and the most unlikely pair. Their “project” is from a few generations ago but completely relatable for those of us who have grandparents and great grandparents from that era. Their children are adorable, and I fell in love with Milly. The mishaps and coincidences were so comical and real.
This is the first book from this author that I have read and have added more to my TBR shelf. The pages flowed easily and was hard to put down. Grab this one and enjoy the ride.
#Hotnerd ALERT
Marika Ray, this new to me author, had me laughing out loud and smiling like a loon in this awkward, sexy romance. Jameson and Lily-Marie are so unassuming and quirky with each other, you can’t help but fall in love with them. It was hard to believe they were so clueless about their feelings towards one another at times, but that is exactly what made their journey so endearing.
Jameson is a very smart guy, but socializing and flirting with woman is not his speciality. He’s a book worm and stepping outside that comfort zone doesn’t come easy to him. He was an alpha male in his own right, but it was so refreshing to read about one that didn’t act like an a**hole too.
Lily-Marie is honestly waiting for her prince charming. The tactics she uses to snag that ideal man are downright hilarious. The fact that she’s so oblivious of Jameson’s intentions made me want to jump in and grab him for myself. Once the initial misinterpretation of their relationship wears off and they realize how attracted they are to one another, LOOK OUT
Marika’s dialogue is fresh, witty and the banter is great. If you need a break from the heavy, check this out!
This is my first read from author Marika Ray and I think I will be looking into her books more. This is a quick read but even if it wasn’t I would have finished in one sitting.
Mom-Com focuses on new neighbors Jameson and Lily-Marie and their kids. Both have had failures in relationships and are doubting the meaning of true love. When both come across and article from the 50’s titled Fifty Ways to Find a Wife and Fifty Ways to Find a Husband. Unbeknownst to the other, they set out to put the advice to the test. What originally turns out to be an experiment turns into a romantic comedy that will make you fall in love with a science nerd.
This rom-com will have you giggling in parts and saying “awe” in other parts. Well written, Marika Ray brings the old fashioned idea of love into the 21st century. Thank you Marika Ray for bringing us this fun love story.
I loved Mom-Com!!! I literally had a smile on my face while I read the whole book. I was laughing out loud at their antics. Such fun characters, they not only make you laugh but leave you feeling warm and fuzzy afterwards.

Prove love doesn’t exist? Go ahead Jameson figure that one out.
Jameson and Lily Marie are new neighbors. He is a hot single dad and she is a beautiful single lady.
I loved the incredible detail to this story.
It was different than most love stories yet the same that when you least expect it there comes love!
I have read a couple books by Marika and like her writing style. I will read more.
This book was so cute and funny! Lily and Jamesons love story is one of my favorites by far. Lily only believes in fairytale love and Jameson believes true love doesn’t exists. Watching these two come together is comical at best! You will love this story!
4.5 Stars
This book was so delightfully funny. I was laughing and chuckling the whole way through. I so loved the characters so much. I loved Jameson’s nerdy professor side and Lily-Marie had a awkward klutzy side I adored. I gobble up single parents romances so this one was right up my alley because Jameson and Lilly-Marie are both single parents. Jameson wants to prove love doesn’t exist and Lily-Marie wants to find her prince charming let the hilarity ensue. There are several romantic moments in this book that would make a heart swoon. If you’re looking for a laugh out loud funny, make you feel good book look no further. I highly recommend this one!
This book is a great laugh. Single parents need to have some fun, too, sometimes. I loved how Lily-Marie and Jameson’s kids liked hanging out, it gave them more than enough reason to be near each other. Definitely a quick, one-sitting kind of read. The chemistry between them was great. Marika Ray is a new author to me. Really glad I read this book. Highly recommend for anyone needing a good laugh.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book through Kylie’s Fiction Addiction. This is my honest, voluntary review.
This was a cute and funny read…I was chuckling so often while reading.
I really liked the plot and the characters.
Lily-Marie and Jameson are single parents and newly neighbours. They are two opposites, they have such different personalities. Lily-Marie is a dreamer who still believes in Love,Happily Ever After and Prince Charming. Jameson is a nerd professor who never believed in Love.
It was entertaining to follow their adventure in the quest of true love for the first and that to finally prove that love doesn’t exist for the latter.
I’m a Marika Ray new fan and I can’t wait to read next book.
Mom-Com by Marika Ray is a sweet and funny story that will have you in stitches. This is a delicious treat of a rom-com that puts together a single mother and single dad. The chemistry between them is sensational!!! They are next door neighbors and of course this makes things between them a bit angsty but oh so good and steamy. We learn why each of them are wearied when it comes to dating yet soon they find a reason to get back into the dating world again. The story picks up and goes into overdrive. Without giving too much away, Lily-Marie and Jameson make this story shine and heat ! I enjoyed their romance and their relationship. It was a great read with laughs, drama, small angst, twists and great romance with beautiful heat. I can’t wait for book 3 in this new series.
My Rating: 4.5 stars ****
I love Marika’s books and she is a definite one click for me but with this book she has well and truly outdone herself. I rolled with laughter I wanted to bang my head against the wall and I was saying “what The” this is how much I was drawn into this book
This is the story of two single parents both intent in their own ways to change their lives You have Lily_Marie who treats love as a Disney moment she knows that her prince will come some day and sweep her ff her feet and if she has to follow rules from the 1950’s to get that prince she will Meanwhile he neighbour is all sexy scientist he believes that love can’t be quantifies so it doesn’t exist. Throw in their assorted children and you have a disaster waiting to happen Or in their case true love but be prepared for some hilarious moments as they find there way to been one big happy family.
ONE WILD TREAT!!!
Oh Man! Talk about rolling on the floor, laugh out loud all the while holding your tummy trying to get it together. A whirlwind of unexpected mishaps and surprising events keep you flipping page after page. One spinning ride full of swirling emotions bursting to life perfectly. One amazing storyline and engaging plot bring this little gem together beautifully. Struggling through all the trials and tribulations that makes for one incredible experience. The characters are authentic and realistic with depth and individuality it’s easy to relate. The scenes are vividly described and paints an amazing backdrop that really pulls this little gem together flawlessly. Amazing job Marika, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
I can’t stop smiling! This book was EVERYTHING! As a single mom myself, I thoroughly enjoy reading about single parents navigating the dating world. This book did not disappoint! I loved how Lily-Marie and Jameson both sought advice from a 1950’s magazine on how to find a “wife” or “husband”. Jameson was set on proving the magazine article wrong and Lily-Marie was hoping to find Mr. Right with the help of the article. What ensued was an epic, modern day romance that fairy tales are made of. I loved Lily-Marie’s antics to try and find true love and how Jameson was there to intercept her plans. I swooned so hard over how romantic and caring Jameson was towards Lily-Marie. He literally swept her off her feet and don’t even get me started on how cute and adorable their children were. This book is like a Disney movie. It has everything you could want in a romance novel. Don’t miss out on this book.
Are you ready to laugh and swoon at the same time? This is the ultimate rom com. This is the story of two opposites that find each other by fate. Jameson and Lily-Marie are both single parents but that’s where their similarities end. Jameson doesn’t believe romantic love exists. Lily-Marie believes in it fully and is searching for it. They both come across an old article with steps to find a husband and wife. Jameson is trying to disprove love as a scientist, Lily-Marie is taking it into her own hands to find her prince. They didn’t expect to find the real thing with each other. I loved loved this story. I was cracking up the whole way through. I couldn’t put it down. It felt like a novella because I couldn’t stop reading. Jameson is so swoon worthy. My weakness in a romance novel is a sexy singe dad and that’s Jameson. I also love Lily-Marie. She is a strong woman who is a single mother. But she is also quirky and very awkward. I could relate so much with her personality wise. It was a blast watching them interact and talk about hot! Their love is addicting. I can’t suggest this book enough. You will thank me as you are laughing out loud with tears in your eyes. I can’t wait for more!
Wow! This was a new to me author. It was a great way to be introduced to Marika Ray! Very cute Rom-com story about a single mom AND a single dad. Being next door neighbors makes things a little bit dicey, but also makes it a lot more amusing. The cuteness level of this story is off the charts. I think I read at least 75% of this book with a huge goofy grin on my face. The ending of the book is a lead in to the next book being about the best friend, Gabby. She was such a comical force that I am quite excited to see what she gets herself up to. So if you are looking for an un-angst book, one that will make you swoon, grin and laugh….. this is the book to grab. It is totally worth all 5 sweep-me-off-my-feet stars!
Marika Ray has perfectly blended laugh out loud humor with the sweetest of romance in Mom-Com. I am not exaggerating when I say I had so many moments where I was crying laughing I probably looked insane. So probably don’t read this in a quiet public place. Like waiting in the dead silent lobby of your kid’s school before a meeting like I did. Unless you really want the side eye from the judgey moms who didn’t show up in band merch.
In all seriousness though, this is one of my favorites from Marika Ray. She always has a knack for not only writing heroes that sweep me off my feet, but also heroines that make me want to stand up and cheer. Lily-Marie is the kind of woman you can’t help but love. Totally imperfect in the best of ways, she’s funny, a great mom, and a complete sweetheart. She seems like the complete opposite of her new hot, nerdy neighbor Jameson. Where she’s chaos he’s total strict organization.
His scientific mind is no match for true love though. With more shenanigans than you can begin to imagine in this science experiment/1950’s dating advice experiment Mom-Com keeps you laughing as much as it keeps you swooning!
I loved this book. It was a breath of fresh air after the books I have read lately. I found myself laughing at the antics these 2 went throughout to find love or prove love exist.
If you need a light Rom com with a little steamy then this is one for you. I can’t wait to read more from this author!
