This single parent dating experiment is about to go viral… ready and I’m dead set on experimenting on my new neighbor, the single mom who does the weirdest things.
But my experiment goes awry in unexplainable ways…
Lily-Marie
When dating apps fail me spectacularly, I decide to go old school and use a 1950s magazine I dug up at a yard sale to help find Mr. Right.
Fifty Ways to Find a Husband.
Sounds legit.
Problem is, my new neighbor, Mr. Science Professor, keeps blocking my attempts. And keeps losing his shirt. How does a book nerd have so many muscles anyway? Thing is, my kids like his son and we start spending a lot of time together, which is distracting me from my ultimate goal: to find a husband to sweep me off my feet and be a good father to my kids.
Things get comical quick when my best friend records everything in her daily newspaper column. I can’t help but wonder if single moms like me can actually catch a husband. Or will this Mom-Com go viral as an epic train wreck?

I LOVED this book! I’ve read several of Marika Ray’s books and everyone has been great, but I think Mom-Com is my new favorite. Maybe it was Jameson’s being nerdy professor/sexy single dad that did it for me or Lily-Marie’s goofiness. Marika has a way with characters that make them so real. This story was funny and sexy and I highly recommend it.
I seriously adore, just ADORE, Mom-Com by Marika Ray! I’ve never read Miss Ray before and I feel like I’ve been missing out! The characters are completely fabulous… they are so fun, so real… you can’t help but to fall for them… totally feet over head, adorable! Lily-Marie cracked me up with watching her Disney movies on repeat before bed. That’s a serious woman looking for her Prince Charming. Jameson is so analytical, so scientific. Who would think the romantic and scientific could mesh well, but mesh they do!
Seriously, this has to be one of the cutest storylines I’ve read in a while. Ray’s writing really gave us so much funny! So much heat! I loved the feel of family that centers in the storyline. I really feel like Marika Ray was able to portray a ton of feelings. Really, I probably spent half of this book laughing and the other half explaining to my family what I was laughing so much about.
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
Lily-Marie is a single mom with 2 children, and her neighbour Jameson is a single dad who is a nerdy science professor. These two are jaded from dating experiences, and all Lily-Marie wants is her prince charming, while Jameson is determined to prove that there is no perfect woman and love. This is a well written flawless story, which is fun, humorous, emotional, entertaining, and an all round sweet read. In my opinion this is this talented authors’ beast work to date, and that is saying something as I love all of her work. I was captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and I highly recommend for all.
A modern fairytale, but definitely not a retelling, this story is it’s own. I LOVED Jameson and Lily-Marie!! She’s determined to find a husband, and her happily ever after, and he’s determined to prove that romantic love doesn’t really exist. I couldn’t get enough of these characters. I laughed, I swooned, I wanted these characters to be real! An absolute must read romantic comedy that rivals all your favorite fairytales!
I loved this book! Both the hero and heroine were so real and relatable, I wish they were MY next-door neighbors! But they live next door to each other instead, and while each one is after the same thing in the long run, they’re working down an old-fashioned “snag a spouse” list at the same time, and hilarity ensues. I’ve got a soft spot for single dad stories, and this one didn’t disappoint! Marika Ray delivers heartfelt humor and lots of touching moments in this great romcom!
This was a great read I love the beginning of the book as we get to know Lily-Marie a little bit more. I t was fun and good and made me want to keep reading to learn a little more about Jameson. Both of the characters bring so much to the book, which is well written and quite entertaining. I can’t find anything I didn’t love about this book it was great.
I loved the plot in this book and enjoyed the characters. I can’t wait to continue this series, and read more of the authors work.
OMFG!! MOM-COM by Marika Ray BLEW ME AWAY and She is a New Author for me!! I Could Not Put It in Down and devour it in ONE Sitting!! It will have you laughing Out Loud and never a Dull moment page after page!! Hello! A Single Mom AND a Single Dad…Plus they are Neighbors..Added Bonus their Children go to the Same School!! Need I Say More?!…
This is a Definitely Must Read Book with Entertainingly addicting storytelling of two single parents wanting companionship following an 1950’s “How to Catch Steps” to the opposite sex to see if it Works! It was intriguing and their Banter was ackward but worked.
Jameson and Lily-Marie’s sexual chemistry is OFF the Charts Hot and Entertaining at the same time! Their Story is Realistically and Swoon-worthy Romantic moments that will Leave you Speechless!!
CANNOT WAIT TO read more from this Author!!
So this is a true must read, 5 star book in my opinion. There is so much that I want to say, and so much I don’t want to say as to not ruin this read for you.
This book is what you get when you mix a true Disney princess fan that wants her prince charming to come in and sweep her off her feet- Lily-Marie, and a nerdy, and awkward science professor that doesn’t believe that you can fall in love because it is scientifically impossible- Jameson.
This book has so much heart, soul and funny scenes that you will not want to put it down. From laughing at Lily-Marie for her ridiculous antics and wanting to hug Jameson because he is so freaking adorable and awkward. Jameson is so sweet, romantic and will steal your heart with one flower. He doesn’t know how to say what he wants to say and it makes him even that much more endearing. I am totally in love with his character and the scenes in this book. He makes you want to keep reading to see what is going to happen next.
You will get the heat, the passion, the laugh out loud hilarious moments, and the so sweet moments that you may tear up for a minute. It is the first book that I have read in a while that brought out so many emotions in me. It was the right book at the right moment for my mood. A very different romance read as well, I haven’t seen any with a premise like it and I love that I got a look into a book that is very different than all the other romance books out there.
Trust me when I say, you must read this book! It is 110% worth the read. My favorite book of Marika’s yet. Loved it so much!!!
If you want to know a little about the characters, here ya go!
Lily-Marie– single mom of two kids, looking for her prince. She watches Disney movies on repeat before bed. She wants to fall in love, she wants that prince that will just walk in and sweep her off her feet. She’s quirky, fun loving and when she finds an article in a magazine from the 50’s at a yard sale that she believes will help her find that man, she starts trying things from it knowing it will find her a man. You get some super funny scenes because of it, and you will want to knock her over the head on some of the other times as well.
Jameson- OH MY Jameson. a single dad and a science professor that doesn’t believe that you can fall in love. He believes that it is impossible, and he is out to prove it to his son, scientifically of course that it is not possible. His dad emails him an article written about 50 ways to get a wife and he uses it as his base for his experiment. He is sexy and will steal every single bit of your heart!
True 5 Star read!! Check it out!!
Funny, sweet, and sexy!
A Cute and Funny Read. There was Great Chemistry between these two. I loved this new storyline about two single parents. She is using the 50’s magazine guide to find Love when dating apps failed her and him to prove Love doesnt exist.
I loved this book! It was sweet and charming and sexy all at the same time. Marika Ray has an amazing way of creating characters that you feel like you already know–or wish you could be like. It’s definitely a book that’s easy to fall in love with.
Well, talk nerdy to me, I loved this!!
Jameson is such an adorkable science professor. And man, is he is HOT! And Lily-Marie is the beautiful neighbor who ends up being his next science experiment victim. These two together made my heart so happy.
I enjoyed this from beginning to end. The Disney movies, the kids, and OMGoodness…the lists!
This book was full of so much charming goodness, I never wanted to put it down.
And can we talk about the dirty talking? Holy MF-ing deliciousness. Whoa. Not only is he hiding a sexy bod under those sweater vests, he’s also got a filthy mouth. *heart eyes*
This single mom + single dad romance was everything I’d hoped it would be…sweet, sexy, and fun!
I adored this book. It was the perfect combination of nerdy dirty talking professor, fairy tale loving single mom, and a list of ways to pick up a man/woman. It was funny, entertaining, emotional, and heartwarming!

Jameson is adorably awkward and Lily-Marie is hilarious. I loved their slow burn of a romance and was entertained the whole way through this book.
I would recommend this HEA.
Single parents, hilarity, college professor
Wonderful witty characters in this rom com. I loved Jameson’s social awkwardness and his well mannered son Stein. Lily-Marie was quirky and her bad luck with dating and Jameson gave me a good chuckle.
This book can easily be devoured in one sitting, and have you swooning from the beginning to the end.
It’s romantic, funny and steamy in the best mix possible. If you didn’t believe in love and happily ever after before you started you certainly will by the end. I loved the characters and their children.
Absolutely loved this book! Jameson is a bit of a nerdy professor who doesn’t believe in love and Lily-Marie believes in the stuff fairy tales are made of. Lily-Marie is so down to earth and could be any one of us with stretch marks, cellulite and real life dating problems. Throw in a 1950’s article about finding a wife/husband and 3 kids and you have one of the funniest laugh out loud books I’ve read this year. Seriously don’t try to read this while eating or drinking as it may result in choking due to laughing!
I so wanted to love this book. The blurb was awesome, it was a whole new spin to the most classic of tales, and it felt really fresh and inventive.
What could possibly go wrong when the story is about Lily-Marie, a single mother of two, who decides to try tips from the 1950s to catch a husband? All the while her new (hot) neighbour Jameson is trying to prove to his son that romantic love doesn’t exist and uses Lily-Marie as his subject? That sounds like a fun, quirky story with endless potential.
But unfortunately, my high expectations weren’t met.
Don’t get me wrong, it was an entirely nice and passable read. The story had the most charming vibe, the characters were appealing and the family dynamics were lovely. There was such a homey feel to it all, I kind of wanted to go live in the book for a while.
I love funny and witty reads. The romances I enjoy the most are the ones that combine lovable characters with wit and smut. So it felt like an utter letdown that Mom-Com so clearly tipped over the edge, from wit to exaggerated comedy, so quickly. Many of the scenes were so over-the-top silly and embarrassing that I just had to stop reading and take a break. In other words, I was pulled out of the story again and again simply because I was cringing so much.
Once I accepted the fact that the story was more of a comedy than a romance, I did enjoy the read way more. I started to re-evaluate my first impressions and was almost entirely convinced it was actually really charming, and it being so original made it even better.
Then the ILU-incident happened. I mean, what the ever-loving f*ck! Come on! I had just started to warm up to the read again and Ray had to ruin it by introducing declarations of love way too soon for it to make any sense. But okay. I took a break. And went at it again. And I learned that yes, I could in fact enjoy the story despite the ILU.
Only then date-night happened. The scene when Lily-Marie and Jameson finally get it on is probably one of the most awkward sex-scenes I’ve ever read. Sure, they changed position a lot, but that was about it. I felt completely cheated. I was counting on the dirt to save the day …or read as it were.
And as the icing on this very irregular cake, I had a very hard time overlooking the obvious misconceptions of how scientists work. Jameson’s “experiment” doesn’t fulfill even the most basic criteria of experimental research, so to repeatedly refer to him as a professor, a scientist, and mention his analytical capability is just irritating. But I realise that most readers won’t bat an eye at those fallacies in Mom-Com, but since I’m an actual scientist myself, it’s hard not to flinch from Ray’s descriptions.
In conclusion, this is a perfectly readable book. A solid 3-star. It’s a shame really, because the story-line is really fun and original, and the characters are awesome. But to me it was the most uneven read in that some parts were fantastic while some parts ruined the entire experience.

Eeep! Could Jameson’s bumbling be any more adorable? Loved this story with its two perfect-for-each other leads and cute kids to round out the sweetness. And, damn, but Jameson was sexy! You’ll adore this book!
