Sequel to Model CitizenHaven Investigations: Book TwoThings are going well for androgynous model Ollie Petroskovic, ex-Marine Kade Alme, and their business, Haven Investigations, until rock star Jacob Elias shows up in need of their services… and trouble follows.Jacob is a playboy with a serious penchant for kink, slaves, and sex toys. He’s also Ollie’s ex—and all that implies. With the media … implies. With the media exploiting his personal life, a stalker sending blood-soaked “gifts,” a bumbling security team, and a family he can’t trust as far as he could throw them, Jacob is in desperate need of a bodyguard for his latest tour, and Kade can’t refuse.
While Kade deals with new doubts about his partnership with Ollie and struggles with reminders of his war injuries, Jacob’s stalker escalates from blackmail and threats to murder. As Kade and Ollie work to keep Jacob safe and find the culprit behind the attack, a web of family secrets, lies, and abuse slowly emerges, leading up to a final confrontation that they might not walk away from—and that will have lasting repercussions for Kade and his relationship with Ollie.

I am starting to see a theme in this series. Societal perceptions, family, and long term consequences are all ‘not good’. Ollie’s ex-boyfriend, Jacob, shows up to prove just how awful those things are.
The story kept me engaged. I was listening way past my bedtime. I even folded extra laundry just to have an excuse to keep listening. I also like the Brian Hutchinson as narrator for this book.
His voice was a bit more appealing to me than the previous narrator. This book focuses more on Kade so the narrator change made sense.
I am not sure that I liked how BDSM was portrayed in this book. Since the portrayal was more about the person participating than BDSM itself, I might just be angry with the character. Manipulating people is not the same as gaining consent. Just no. See I am angry. The author did a great job of inciting emotions. A really great job.
Like the first book, the plot has a few layers. The resolution wasn’t entirely surprising, but the conclusion was. If I hadn’t already downloaded the third audiobook in this series, I would not have been happy with the end. Jacob’s story was resolved, but that wasn’t the end of the story because this series still has an overreaching plot arc that I suspect won’t be wrapped up until the end of the series. Sneaky authors. So sneaky and evil.
It was with bated breath that I jumped at the opportunity to read ‘Model Bodyguard’, book two in Lissa Kasey’s ‘Haven Investigations’ series. I loved the first book and fell head over heels for both Ollie and Kade. Knowing this novel was going to be from Kade’s point of view had me yanking at the bit waiting for it. It didn’t hurt that I knew this author was going to bring me mystery, intrigue, action, and adventure, along with a strong cast of main and secondary characters, not to mention tantalizing hints to make me think. So, yes. I couldn’t wait to read this book!
“Ollie was my Alice, my savior, and co-conspirator. Most days I felt like the Mad Hatter, following him around with an incoherent mash of madness lingering just beyond our existence. But I couldn’t recall ever being so happy.”
You would think the author would give me a break after the exciting, tumultuous ending of book one, but oh no, she’s bound and determined to have Ollie and Kade smack-dab in another mystery with murder, a rock star ex-boyfriend, betrayal, tons of action adventure, and a cat. Yes, you heard me. A cat. Will and Britney got Ollie and Kade a cat, and if I say so myself, Newt shares some interesting habits with a couple of felines I know pretty well. Plus, Ollie is even more freaking adorable since he’s never had a pet before.
I knew when Kade reluctantly agreed to take Jacob’s case that it wasn’t going to end well. How could it? Too many secrets and lies within Jacob’s family and surrounding him that Ollie and Kade had to struggle to decipher. As much as I disliked Jacob in the beginning, I did feel sorry for him as the story progressed. He’s been used by everyone including the family that’s supposed to love him. I couldn’t forgive him for the stuff he put Ollie through, but I actually had hope there was a human being in there somewhere.
It was so incredible to have Kade’s point of view in this second installment. I got to know him better, especially how he thought, and I was able to see Ollie through his eyes. It really made this novel even more enjoyable for me and that’s saying a lot since I adored every moment spent with Ollie and Kade.
If you don’t believe the author’s words at the beginning of the book then take it from me – there’s a cliff-hanger at the end of this book. I do know, however, that the third book is in the works so I’m hoping I don’t have to wait too long. I love a good cliff-hanger to keep me on the edge of my seat and believe me, this is a great one! Thank you, Lissa, I loved every word and can’t wait for the next book.

Ollie and Kade are a solid couple. They love each other and despite some of their own insecurities, they balance each other well.
When Ollie’s ex-boyfriend hires them, Kade knows that Jacob, the ex, has ulterior motives, but also realizes that there is a real threat to him as well.
Ollie is working hard to keep his past behind him, but with his ex in danger, Ollie still knows that deep down, despite the abuse he suffered, Jacob can be a good person.
There are a lot of people involved in this story and each one has a lot to gain. The mystery portion of this story is very fast paced and well developed. You want to guess throughout and when you finally figure it out, it’s not a huge shock.
What I think makes this story the most interesting is Kade’s predicament. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next story and who comes forward as the alpha male.
