A decades old case. A charismatic gumshoe. A sinister don. Alfred Favero, Senior Analyst with the IRS, shouldn’t have muddled the timeline. But curiosity got the better of him. There was killing and a cat involved too, but he’d rather not talk about that. Suffice it to say, a mafia prince is dead, and Alfred is on the run through time with a wrongly accused detective. To unmask the men framing his … detective.
To unmask the men framing his new friend, he’ll tangle with New York City’s most sinister criminals. It’ll take all of his knowledge, and investigations across multiple timelines, to get to the bottom of it – before he finds himself sleeping with the fishes.
No pets are harmed in this book. The cat definitely does not die.

An interesting take on a couple that works for the IRS, a time travel device and a crime fighting cat named Fluff or Satan depending on who you ask. Rather slow moving but well done.
Absence makes the heart fond…Read the book to find out why!

*** SPOILER ALERT ***
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started reading this book. I’m glad that I did. The humour was well balanced. It seemed organic to the story rather than being shoehorned into it.
Q: What’s more dangerous than an alert law dog? A fluffy kitten!! Who knew the deadliest weapon against the Mob was a fluffy little kitten?
This was my first meeting with Alfred and Nance.I look forward to seeing more of them, and Fluff/Daemon, in the future.

Mob Bosses & Tax Losses (Time Travelling Taxman Book 5)
Rachel Ford
A fun time traveling taxman adventure! Well written, with dry humor throughout. Great plot and world building. And a kitten!

Our hero believes in justice, strongly. So we he discovers an injustice, the temptation to fix it is overwhelming. If only he could go back in time…
This is book five of the series. There are some references to the previous story, but overall it stands up just fine on its own, so feel free to start here if you like.
This is a light science fiction novel with a heavy dose of dry humor. After all, what would you expect when the hero how considers taxman as one of the pillars of society? The story is very well written and easy to read, but the plot has plenty of twists and turns that keep the reader guessing. The characters are also fantastic and the wonderful (and often humorous) interactions between them are always enjoyable. One minor warning is that this book does end on a slight cliffhanger, but nothing major. Overall, a fun read as always.
Highly recommended.
My review is based on the audio book version of the story.
I received an ARC from StoryOrigin for review purposes.
This review is for the audio book.
Another story from the time traveling tax man that I couldn’t stop listening to. I just love this series and can’t wait for the next book to be released as it was sort of left on a little cliff hanger. I love Nancy as a character she is a strong independent woman with brains and isn’t afraid to fight back but also has a soft gentle side, even Alfred has grown on me as he develops in each book, under the carefully eye of Nancy.
As Alfred prepares to give a speech in front of his peers and colleagues about tax laws he is struck by some discrepancies in an old case that he wanted to make as an example of. With Nancy having fixed the time traveling device and more importantly being out of town, Alfred finds he can’t help thinking about how a mob boss got away with breaking the law while his lackey a corrupt cop went to prison. Alfred decides to travel back in time to find out what really happened In 1940 but he has no idea that his little jump will change the course of history because Alfred mistakenly takes back a little fur ball called Satan, who just happens to be Nancy’s cat. It’s not long before Nancy pieces together Alfred’s lies and comes running back to rescue the love of her life. Oh and Alfred. Can the two of them work together and do what the cops of that era couldn’t do? Take down the mob and maybe save some lives in the process?
I like the narrator he does a good job with the voice of Alfred making him sound guilty and at the same time as always being in the right, which is just perfect for Alfred. I hope he continues with the series.
Mob Bosses & Tax Losses (Time Travelling Taxman Book 5), my seventh read from author Rachel Ford. This book is so well-written & enjoyable. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reading & reviewing it. John Carter Aimone’s talented narration adds to the book’s enjoyment. I look forward to the next book in the series. “I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.” (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
Alfred Favero, the taxman, is a senior analyst with the IRS. While preparing for a talk he reviews some famous crimes involving mobsters. Something does not seem to add up in one of the cases. Curious whether he is correct, he travels in time but ends up tampering with the timeline. Now the mobster prince is dead and he and the wrongly accused detective are now on the run. The only way out of this mess is to deal with some of the most notorious criminals of the time.
This is book five of the Time Traveling Taxman Series. I will have to state this is the first book in the series I have read. I found it easy to get caught up in terms of background. This book is filled with charismatic characters with tons of personality. The dialogue is great and has its funny moments making the book easy to read. Humour adds a great deal to the enjoyment of the book. The mystery was good with enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. Some life lessons such the importance of being honest in relationship were woven into the story. This is a fun book to read with interesting characters and I hope to read the previous books soon.

Well written time travel with our favorite taxman, Alfred. This is a fast and easy read with humor throughout. Rachel Ford is a relatively “new to me” author that I’ve been enjoying. I’ve come to expect well plotted and fast paced stories. Well developed characters that keep the story moving. I find her books to be extremely fast reads with enough twists and turns to keep you reading until the end. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).
I absolutely loved this book. Time travel, great characters, page-turning action-packed story, well-written and just overall fabulous. I highly recommend this book.

What might happen if there was a time machine to help the IRS reopen an old crime investigation – 3.5 stars
We have another adventure in the time travelling tax man series in which our tax man hero Alfred tries to prove that a NYC policeman was framed.
With a time machine, it is possible to put living beings into the past without stretching the time/space continuum too much.
More like a TV sitcom than a serious piece of science fiction, we follow the antics of a young couple as they adjust history to let the good guys have a life and fight crime with the benefit of looking back.
The story offers a gentle poke at contemporary relationships. It is a quick read.
Time travel isn’t my favorite genre to read but this one is done really well, and I enjoyed the story. The author uses humor and animals in a wonderful way within her story. The characters are likable and interesting. An enjoyable read.

This is the second Time Travelling Taxman book I have now read. This one was better, to me, than the other book. Maybe that is because I knew what to expect. This book followed a similar pattern to the other one. But it is a good pattern.
It is MOSTLY a clean read. I appreciate that and I would suggest that the author “double down” on that, by removing the relatively small number of actual curse words that are in this. There are ways to get the point across without actually including them. This author is quite good at doing that. The first time I noticed it, I thought, “that is kind of quaint.” The more I think about it, the more I like that she does this. Including filthy language does not really add anything. Yes, there are times when the language is called for. We know those times and can “fill in the gaps,” if we choose to do so.
Other than that, there are some good lessons in here about trust and honesty. But mostly, it is just a decent story that keeps you turning pages.
Yet again another brilliant, witty, wonderful book featuring my favorite tax analyst, Alfred. I laughed outloud several times and even shed a few bittersweet tears at the end too. The characters were terrific, and the plot was fast paced and captivating, making this an entertaining page-turner that I can highly recommend.

This is a good thriller with well defined characters and a time traveling storyline. I totally enjoyed the novel and was up until 2:00 am in order to finish it. I liked it and you will too. Pick this one up, you will not be disappointed.
