Guys My Age, Saffron Kent: I love the song this short story was inspired by and I love how it was reflected the theme of the story! Fallon and Dillon are two characters I hope Saffron revisits again. Their romance seems illogical but I promise you will be hoping for their HEA in the first couple of pages. I need more Dillon and Fallon!
The Foreword written by Laurelin Paige was beautiful and quite thought provoking…how many of us interpret song lyrics in different ways? Is it how the songwriter intended the story to be? Sometimes we can connect with another through a song and sometimes the story it’s telling them can be vastly different than what it’s telling you.
The stories in this book all relate to a song, at least they relate according to the author of the story, but maybe we’ve always thought of the song in a totally different way. Nevertheless, I loved these stories and have been listening to the Playlist on Spotify…in some cases, I’ve been given a whole new perspective on some of the songs.
Here are reviews for five of the twelve stories…
Guys My Age, Saffron A. Kent
If you read her book, Medicine Man, you’ll love this…although, you’ll love it even if you haven’t. It’s always amazing to me when an author can pack that much romantic punch into such a short novella. I feel like I got a full story and was left breathless with the emotional intimacy that she created and how she so smoothly envelops the reader in a forbidden story and makes you forget that there’s any reason these two should not be together. Perfect!
Say Yes, Elle Kennedy
This one was fun, witty and sexy…what was supposed to be a one night hook up turns into a huge misunderstanding and possibly a whole lot more!
Your Everything, K.L. Kreig
This is a prequel to Black Swan Affair, so it was really interesting to read this perspective and know more about what went on prior to BSA. Diving into the depths of Killian’s thoughts and emotions when it comes to his feelings about Maverick was intense. Knowing the outcome made it even more intriguing. You’ll enjoy this extremely hot and sexy story whether you’ve read about Killian, Kael and Maverick before or not.
Moment of Truth, Veronica Larsen
I’ve never read anything by this author before, but I’m on my way to find more to read now! This amazingly breathtaking story of unconditional love tugged at every heartstring I have. Gabby and Dean’s touching journey to undeniable love is a must read!
Lush, Marni Mann
Phew, this story is HOT HOT HOT…and I need more!
Saffron A. Kent did it again. She pulls you right in. I was so in love with Fallon and Dean. This short is great and hopefully we see more of them in the future!!
A great collection of authors and their short stories. Definitely will leave you wanting more. Flirty, sexy, with forbidden elements and scorching hot! One click this anthology!
What a great concept for an anthology, a mixtape of love songs!! 12 authors have come together in this collection. Each has picked a love song and written a love story.
My favorite….Sierra Simone’s Broken Hallelujah. She has once again given her fans a super hot AF story!!! It’s a quick, F/F, read but so well written, it’s the complete love story of Jacey and Devon. Sierra Simone’s writing brilliance weaves all the feels of the song Hallelujah throughout this story.
BROKEN HALLELUJAH by Sierra Simone
When I started reading I couldn’t put it down.Sierra Simone is magnifysent and amazing writer.I cannot wait to read more of there books.Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this book. Can’t wait for the next book.
A collection of some of my favorite authors! This one’s a must-read. Great for that weekend of relaxing with heart-tugging stories!
Moment of Truth by Veronica Larsen.
“Telling her I love her might just ruin our friendship, but watching her marry someone else? Means losing her forever.”
Moment of Truth is the story of Dean & Gabby, they’ve been best friends since childhood but it’s only in college that that they dare to confront their feelings about one another. There’s fear of rejection on both sides, but ultimately it’s the fear of ruining their treasured friendship that puts the kibosh on them taking things further.
Years later and Dean tormented by his missed opportunity when it looks as if Gabby will never be his in the way he feels she’s destined to be. He truly wanted what was best for her and I adored the way he put her feelings before his own to his detriment. I loved the heighten angst of the “will they, won’t they” combined the with what I felt to be genuine intimacy at the core of their relationship.
“I think I’ve loved you my whole life.”
I’ve long been a fan of Veronica Larsen’s storytelling. Whether it be a full length novel or a bite sized one such as MOMENT OF TRUTH, she leaves no emotional stone unturned.
Love the idea of this mixtape anthology, with each story having its own ‘theme’ song.
Guys My Age – Saffron Kent – 4.5 Stars
This is an age gap romance in Saffron’s fabulous taboo style. The characters are a spin off from Medicine Man with Fallon being very much her mother’s daughter. Fallon, just like Willow knows what she wants and has made her decision to go for it. Dean doesn’t stand a chance. I adored this couple, so sweet and sexy.
Say it First – Nikki Sloan – 4 Stars
Anna & Jamie reconnect through facebook and build a friendship through text. Once they finally get their schedules together and have some time alone their relationship develops. I really liked the dynamics in this story and Jamie seemed like a really nice guy.
Broken Hallelujah – Sierra Simone – 3.5 Stars
This F/F story of Devon and Jacey was steamy and sexy but it felt like all the controversy was quickly resolved considering the lengths Jacey had gone to in leaving Devon behind previously.
Say Yes – Elle Kennedy – 4.5 Stars
Emilia has a random hook up, leading to awkward scenes at her best friends wedding. Steamy sex scenes. This was cute, funny and sexy. What’s not to like? I will definitely be looking up more from this author.
All I Want – Mara White- 3.5Stars
Marilyn & Ove are desperate to get pregnant, cue interlude with a mysterious stranger and all their dreams come true. Destiny brings the stranger back in the end. This was a bit to trite for me but sweet.
Toothpaste Kisses – Xio Axelrod – 4 Stars
Malcolm, high flying lawyer and Pell an up and coming artist cross paths and sparks fly! I really enjoyed this story and would love to read more about the characters!
Wild Pitch – Rebecca Shea – 3.5 stars
2nd Chance love affair set in a snowed in cabin. Mateo turns up out of the blue to reclaim his relationship with Mia.
Your Everything – KL Kreig – 4.5 Stars
A mini prequel to the Black Swan Affair, which was one of my favourite reads last year. I was so happy to have this glimpse into Killian and Maverick as their relationship began and they planned their happily ever after. It made me want to go back for a re-read.
Think Im in Love – Leslie McAdam – 3.5 Stars
Randy, Shane and Kim are best friends, and a sort of love triangle, although not all of them are aware of that fact. I felt there was a bit too much introspection from Randy as Shane struggled to understand what he actually wanted.
Moment of Truth – Veronica Larsen – 4 Stars
Dean and Gabby are friends. There are some miscommunications and avoidance of feelings. Dramatic.
Lush – Marni Man – 3 Stars
Sex club scene, this was just not for me, Undercover man returns after a sudden disappearance, has a 7 hour sex sesh and then leaves again.
Kiss Me – Lynda Archer – 3.5 Stars
This couple meet up after he has recently sacked her, they hook up leading to their happy ever after. I found this one dragged a bit for me.
A fab range of stories in this anthology, with something for everyone. My highlights were definitely Saffron Kent, KL Kreig and Elle Kennedy.
Guys My Age by Saffron Kent is part of this wonderful anthology! This story makes you fall in love with these characters. It’s short and spectacular! Dean and Fallon couldn’t of been more perfect.
Saffron A Kent, Sierra Simone, Elle Kenedy, Nikki Sloane, Mara White, Rebeca Shea, KL Kreig, Leslie McAdam, Veronica Larsen, Marni Mann… These are only few names in this anthology.
They give age gap taboo romance, FF romance, second chance/high school crush romance, dark romance… You name it, this little anthology have it.
One of my fav was actually the first story in this book and it’s from Saffron A Kent. This author sure know how to write steamy taboo age gap romance even in little novella.
Hint: have you read Medicine Man? If yes, do you remember the boy Simon meet and eventually help? Imagine he is all grow up and smokin hot, too gorgeous and then bring in Simon’s daughter…. Evil laugh here… Too delicious! I need Saffron to write big book about these two but then again their story is already perfect just the way it is. Love love love it!
I love an anthology as it’s a nice way to get introduced to new author. So far I have been able to read, KL Kreig’s My Everything and Rebecca Shea’s Wild Pitch.
My Everything was a prequel to The Black Swan Affair, which I loathe to say I have not read but rest assured after this taster, I intend to do so real soon. It was sexy, snappy and has left me a whole lot of intrigued.
Wild Pitch was a fast paced second chances love story. As it’s a short story there wasn’t too much deph to the characters or story but netherless was a fun read.
I’ve read a few of these stories now and enjoyed each one. They vary from sweet and sexy, to brash and dominant. Everything you could want from a book, is between these pages. I’m slowly making my way through these novellas. Grab it while you can.
Here are my reviews so far.
Review for: Say It First by Nikki Sloane
Nikki is one of my to-go authors. I see her name on a new book and I know I’m in for a treat. This was short and fairly sweet, for Nikki.
Anna and Jamie were old school friends how come together when the school was having a ten year reunion. They never attended but did start texting. Fourteen months later, they’re close, but have never been in the same room as each other. Jamie plans to change all that when he suggests they take a week’s vacation together.
Sun, sand and an intense attraction soon have them doing more than either ever dreamed of.
This novella was fantastic. It made me want to read the ‘Blindfold Club’ books again but more than that, I think these two need a fully fledged book.
Added to that wish what about the movie that Anna starred in? Wouldn’t it be great if it came to fruition for real???
Review for: Broken Hallelujah by Sierra Simone
I’m holding my hand in the air, here. My cherry has been picked!! Broken Hallelujah is the first F/F that I’ve read. And to say it took me by surprise is a bit of an understatement.
I’ve read FF with men in the menage, but never alone, so I didn’t really know what to expect. Of course with it being Ms Simone it was HOT!! Scorching, but very emotional too.
A Dom and sub that are both women, this was pretty kinky for me, but I really enjoyed it as the emotions were spot on and the characters played off each other perfectly. Would I purposely read more in this genre? I’m not sure. I wouldn’t avoid it though so… we’ll see.
Review for: Think I’m in Love by Leslie McAdam
Mixtape: A Love Song Anthology, certainly gave me some entertaining stories in a variety I don’t normally read. After my first F/F, Think I’m In Love brought me my first M/M story. This was a follow on from Sombre by Leslie Mcadam and even though it is a stand alone novella you’ll enjoy it more if you read that book first before tackling this novella. You’ll love it more if you do.
This story was fast and tempestuous. Shane and Randy are friends. Randy is in love with his best friend, but Shane is clueless to his feelings.
When Shane proposes to his girlfriend, Kim before she leaves for Spain for a semester, Randy, has little choice but to fight for what he wants.
And what he wants is Shane.
All to himself.
Will he get his dream come true??
5 STARS FOR GUYS MY AGE BY SAFFRON A. KENT!! Wow, a perfect forbidden novella!! Fallon and Dean’s story will take your breath away, it is a sweet, beautiful, forbidden love story. If all the stories are like this you definitely want to 1-Click this book.
5 STARS FOR BROKEN HALLELUJAH!! This story took me by surprise in a good way that kept me flipping pages. It was hot and delicious with all the feels. Jace and Devon have a story that you need to hear. Sierra Simone is one of those authors that thinks outside the box and you love every word she writes and this one is no different.
This is one anthology you don’t want to miss.
These ladies are all incredibly talented. Below are reviews for my favorites.
I was so happy to find that KL Kreig’s submission was a prequel of her book “Black Swan Affair.” This book was one of my top 2016 reads. Her writing is amazing and I loved getting another piece to that puzzle. This small snippet will jave you craving more so pick up a copy of the completed book to get the full effects.
Rebecca Shea’s submission left me needed more. Her writing draws you quickly into the story and allows you to connect with her characters on another level. The chemistry is off the charts and who doesn’t love a second chance romance? I look forward to reading more about this couple in the future who knows what Rebecca will have in store for us.
I had Hey Violet’s Guys My Age stuck in my head part way through this story. It was like the definition to this forbidden love story. If you read Medicine Man, then you should have a clue who Fallon and Dean are. I’ve read the story but almost forgot these two characters. After reading passed page three, I remembered… Then I laughed and knew this was going to be a wild ride. I loved Fallon through and through. She was just like her mother. She knew what she wanted and nobody was going to tell her different. Dean… the man was stubborn but he didn’t stand a chance when it came to Fallon. He tried to ignore the way he felt. Dean tried to make excuses but what he felt for Fallon was real.
“Nobody has made me feel even close to how Fallon does. Nobody has inspired my heart to beat or my soul to fucking sing, for lack of a better word. She’s the one. An eighteen-year-old, slip of a girl with silver hair and gray eyes.”
I have read two of the stories out of this book and have enjoyed them both.
Wild pitch
Mia decided she needed a break, some alone time. So she heads to her parents cabin.
Mateo also needing a break, asks his friend Jensen (Mia’s Brother) if he could use Jensen’s parents cabin for a bit.
This was a short, sweet and sexy story. There was not a lot of conflict, just ….
Great read!
Your Everything
A short and sexy romance. Killian has been waiting a long time for Maverick. When he finally gets close to her he has to figure out a way to get out from under her father. It ends in kind of a cliffhanger, but I found out once I was done reading it it was a prequel to another story.
Looking forward to reading the rest!
Review for Guys My Age by Saffron A. Kent
A quick, sexy, age gap read featuring Dean and Fallon. Dean is the older friend of the family that Fallon has grown up with and known her entire life. He tries to fight the attraction but can she convince them their love is worth it?
I read Sierra Simone’s “Broken Hallelujah” and “Lush” by Marni Mann. Both stories make this entire anthology well worth the purchase. I also thought it was entirely clever of these authors to pick a song to base a short story off of and bring us a “mixtape” of sorts, but for books.
Broken Hallelujah by Sierra Simone
This was my first F/F read. With her beautiful, passionate and hypnotic prose, this author can make me fall in love with absolutely anything she writes, no matter the storyline… just as long as she keeps giving me the chemistry, emotions and steam that she infuses into each one.
Lush by Marni Mann
Marni is easily one of my top 5 favorite authors. She never fails to deliver a story that explodes from the pages, no matter how short the length. Lush is a spin-off from The Agency series, featuring Pepper, who is Scarlett’s BFF and owner of the Lush sex club. Her and the dark and mysterious Bale were off the charts HOT and their chemistry erupted from my kindle. My only complaint is that it wasn’t longer because I can feel there is so much more to tell with these two… but the way it left off makes me think there could be a possibility for a future story. *crosses fingers*
I HIGHLY recommend this anthology for a little bit of everything to sate your book-whoring needs. The author lineup is fantastic and I’ll definitely be reading more and adding to my review as soon as time allows.
Holy woah! I need to go back and read the rest of this anthology. Knowing that the two stories I read were amazing, I can’t wait to go back and read the rest.
KL Kreig’s My Everything is a prequel to Black Swan Affair and I LOVED it. I had no idea what Kreig’s story was going to be about, but I have to say I was in awe. I loved Black Swan Affair so getting this little snippet was AMAZING.
Rebecca Shea’s Wild Pitch… lets just say I need more! I’m dying to get more of Mia and Mateo’s story. I feel like there s more and I just need it! Their story was quick, steamy and left me wanting more.
