He wasn’t supposed to be nice. This changes everything.I’m just trying to survive. Mom’s dead. Dad’s gone crazy. And I’m alone. Senior year is about to start and I can’t imagine my life getting any worse. Enter Lucas. The rich, snobby kid who’s been banished here by his parents to, I don’t know, learn how the poor slum it or something. He’s everywhere. Infiltrating my safe places and causing my … everywhere. Infiltrating my safe places and causing my emotions to spin out of control. If only I can figure out what his angle is, I might actually survive.
And then, things change. I begin to realize there’s more depth to him than he’s letting on.
I didn’t expect this. What am I going to do? My heart’s already so broken and I’m not sure I can take the chance that I so desperately want to.
Losing someone I loved already crushed me once. What if Lucas leaves me too?

A beautiful enjoyable YA romance. This engaging story really have me a real sense of small town life in Sweet Water while demonstrating lots of love for family and friends. A feel good romance with lots of push and pull feelings as their relationship develops in this sweet romance. The narrator dis a wonderful job of really bringing the story to life.
Charlotte has way too much on her shoulders at such a young age. I really liked her and loved hearing her thoughts!!! At first I wasn’t sure if I was going to like Lucas but after seeing what he has and is going through I really liked him too. Their interactions were pretty funny. I did struggle with her and her best friend both liking Lucas but loved how the author handled the situation. The narrator did a really good job of switching between characters.
This was a cute YA romance. Charlotte and Lucas get off on the wrong foot from day one. But they keep meeting up. Both are dealing with their issues, can they get past their misunderstandings…
Another sweet read!
It was so easy to get swept away in Meyer’s world and I loved every second of it. The theme of misconceived first impressions is a focal point in the genre but it never gets old and the way the two characters meet – it completely set up their relationship in a sweetly addictive way. I loved the complexity of emotions that didn’t condescend to the reader or the characters. I can’t wait to read more from this author!
This is book 1 in a new YA series by Anne-Marie Meyer.
Charlotte Robinson has experiences the loss of her mother and is reeling from her dad’s unwillingness or inability to cope with the loss. She feels like her world is falling apart and the only sane place she can go is The Bread Basket where she works.
Lucas Addington is a jerk who is the grandson of Charlotte’s boss. He is wealthy and rude and yet he and Charlotte seem to have a spark that neither wants to acknowledge. Lucas has had some difficulties and secrets in his life that are weighing heavily on him. He was sent to his grandmother’s for a “timeout” by his father and he is angry and hurt.
This book is a clean, sweet romance between high school seniors and some of the difficult life challenges they face and the feelings of love that they are beginning to experience.
I was given an arc copy of this book and I offer my honest review willingly.
This is a cute, sweet, and clean story of young romance, heartache, opposites, and life after your mom dies. The story focuses on overcoming grief and disappointments while starting your last year of high school. The characters are very realistic in how they feel, what they are going through, and how they react to circumstances. How nice to see the town rally behind Charlotte’s family. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
This was a great book that I couldn’t put down. I had to keep reading to find out what would happen next. Charlotte was a teen that lost her mother too early. I loved getting a glimpse of her feelings and how she coped with the loss. It was interesting to see her father’s grief through Charlotte’s eyes. Lucas was a snobby, good-looking guy that just moved into town. I enjoyed watching the layers being peeled back on Lucas’s character. Both Lucas and Charlotte had a lot of insecurities they had to face and overcome. Overall, this was an enjoyable sweet high school romance. I recommend this clean read to those that like high school romance.
