This is the second book of the series. The Characters are so realistic, Shea and Fallon are finding their way in their relationship and there is the romance and some difference of options, especially when warlord likes his way. A lot more action, adventure, mystery and of course a romance. Shea finds their is This book grabbed you the first chapter and didn’t let go.
Great book, the book flowed well where the last book ended. Love this series
I love this author and the characters she has created, especially Shea. What an outrageous and courageous woman she is!
Mist’s Edge continues the story of Shea, a Pathfinder, who falls in love with a Trateri Warlord and has to reinvent herself. Her identity has always been tied to what she could do as a Pathfinder, but now as Telroi, she struggles with what that that title makes her instead of what she can accomplish. I first read and reviewed Pathfinder back in 2016 and loved how this woman was kick ass, not for some special super power, but because she was gifted at what she’d learned how to do. In Mist’s Edge, I am still enamored with the Shea who was accomplished, but now I have fallen in love with the Shea who is going through self discovery, trying to find her place among the Trateri and in her relationship with Fallon, her Warlord.
The relationship between Fallon and Shea is heated and passionate. They feel so much for each other, but Shea is still dissatisfied with her new place as Telroi. The beginning of this novel has Shea doing a lot of soul searching, so it starts off kind of slow, however, when a fellow Pathfinder finds their way into camp, the threat of Shea leaving makes the plot really move. Fallon feels threatened because he knows she hasn’t yet settled into her role. A role which is kind of confusing, not just to Shea but also the reader. Telroi seems to be somewhere between a wife and a mistress, but women don’t seem to have leadership roles within Trateri society, so other than being attached to the Warlord, she doesn’t have much to do. It would be hard to go from a leadership role to the plus one, even if you are with the man you love.
After Reece, the other Pathfinder, shows up the plot moves along, the conflict heating up and giving both Shea and Fallon purpose together. I like it best when they are working together towards a resolution, so the second half of the book was great and the conclusion was very satisfying. Book three will hopefully not be two years out because I’m looking forward to seeing them face their final task together, each of them getting what they need. Fallon, world domination (seriously, he’s a conqueror) and Shea a place in his world that satisfies her need for respect and love.
I absolutely loved the balance the author finds between romantic storyline, real action with a great storyline. The heroine is a badass who is more like a real woman than any other novel I have read in recent memeory. Their relationship is more mirrored on what a real relationship in that situation would look like. It is not all sex and stupid arguments where the woman just suddenly decides to give in and let it go. Like no. Women don’t act like this in real life lol. On top of all of this the author is amazing at world building, it seems so realistic you could actually picture the landscape. Warning this is book two in the series and book 1 is EVEN BETTER!
Wow! We get so much more of Fallon in this one and I loved every moment of it!
The relationship between Shea and Fallon is truly highlighted in this book. Even as they are struggling against unseen enemies that take the form or traitors or beast, we get to see how Fallon really feels about Shea. He’s such a perfect hero with all of his protective ways. The fact that she drives him absolutely crazy due to her own independence and ability to save herself makes me love him even more.
I loved watching this couple work through some of their issues. They may have been made for each other but things do not come easily for them.
“She was his greatest challenge, a wild and untamed wind that defied every attempt to master it. He looked forward to the attempt despite the knowledge of his likely failure.”
With both of them stubborn and reluctant to yield to the other, we see some real fireworks that don’t stem from the bedroom. Although, there is certainly no lack of sizzle from that department either. We actually have a lot more steam this time and the romance is so strong that I just wanted to crawl into the book and stay forever.
Fallon definitely stole this story for me as he is just absolutely perfect in every way.
“Sometime it scared him – the depth of feeling he had for this woman. He didn’t know what he would do if he ever lost her. If the world thought him a monster now, it had better pray that she outlived him.”
And yet, Shea is that strong kick butt heroine that many readers love. Her lack of communication can sometimes be a problem, but that’s actually a part of the story as is her growth into learning how to do so with not just Fallon but those around her.
The world building here is amazing, especially with the trees that house a village and a city underground. I could easily picture these places in my mind. This is a longer read but really, there is no where you could skim even if you wanted to.
This is written in a way that you’re never really sure which characters you can trust and yet you love them all. I found this one to be filled with just as much action as the previous book but this time I had Fallon’s point of view to sweeten the angst and drama of it all.
Thank you again to my book buddy, Mindy, for this awesome recommendation. I’m passing it on to anyone else who loves romantic fantasy with a hard core alpha hero.
This has everything I loved in the first book and more. Now we get to see Fallon and Shae dealing with everything together as a couple. I absolutely adore how protective and possessive Fallon is of Shae. You really see how much he feels about her and would rather die than lose her.
I’m also loving how the some of the clans are realizing how special Shae is. Some are still stubborn, but the others are starting to realize how smart she is and have started to trust her.
There is just so many fascinating things happening in this series. This one ended on more of a cliffhanger than the first and I will be starting book two immediately. I’m pretty angry at her father and I’m very curious if Shae’s people really are as cutthroat as they are being portrayed.
