What a thrilling end to the Dredthorne series.
I believe this is the best book of the series. It’s full of twist, turns, murder, mayhem, and humor. I loved every word of it.
Seven years after Baron William Graystone left Jennet standing at the altar, he’s back home again. While maintaining the secrets of where he has been in recent years, he insinuates himself back into Jenner’s life and heart.
Once again, Dredthorne Hall is woven into the fabric of the story. Can the curse finally be broke?
This thrilling, fast-paced final book of the trilogy is well-worth your time to read. It could easily be a stand-alone novel. There are mentions of past events at Dredthorne Hall, but this story is self-contained.
Jennet Reed was sent an invitation to an all Hallow’s Eve masquerade at Dredthorne Hall. Of course her mother Margaret was having one of her little heart attack thinking their were all going to be cursed now and Jennet would die going out on the Devil’s night to that evil place. Lol can you imagine having to deal with that all the time? Oh only a daughter’s love.
Jennet was single because the one man she loved left her at the church on the wedding day with out telling her or his parents. He was just gone.
There is a story behind that it’s been 7 years and he is Back but the reason? One hint it hadn’t been to see Jennet. That’s all I’ll tell you lol story is full of drama, mystery, betrayal, spice and so much more. I couldn’t put it down and I so didn’t want to lol don’t miss this one I Voluntarily reviewed a copy and I honestly loved it.
Jennet was abandoned at the altar but now he’s back. Baron Greystone, the cad that had deserted her literally at the altar but she wasn’t so weak or meek that he’d get away with it. They are thrown together at a masquerade party at Dredthorne Hall and more than a party is going on. I love Jennet. She’s a strong, practical and smart woman. But there are traitors and mischief and murder along with ghosts, unpleasant revelations and a surprise or two thrown in. Great characters that jump off the pages. I’m not sure I’d believe “the story” but Jennet and Liam are GOOD together even with all the baggage between them. Fast paced and an easy read. I highly recommend you allow enough time to finish it in the first pass because it’s a page turner that won’t let you sleep until you reach the end. Great story. Nice finish to the series. Even if you think gothic isn’t “you”. Hazel Hunter makes it a terrific story that you’ll enjoy no matter what.
This is the third and final book in the “Dredthorne Hall” series. Each book in this series just gets better than the last and this one may the best. Yet, you shouldn’t take my word for it, read all three and make your own informed opinion.
*I received an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book which I am voluntarily reviewing*
I have grown to really love this series. I love the twists and turns that always appear and the strength of the heroines. This book carries on those same themes, but out of the three, I think this is my favorite. Jennet was left at the alter by the man she loved for reasons that she did not know or understand. Instead of being dragged down by that, she remained strong. Now they are reunited and despite the dangers that always come from Dredthorne Hall, they realize that their love never died. There are the usual twists and turns that you expect from Dredthorne, and a few shocks you don’t see coming. I enjoyed this series and cannot wait to see what comes next from this author.
This is the third and final stand alone story based on a purportedly haunted home called Dredthorne Hall. Just the place to hold a Hallow’s Eve masquerade ball. Jennet receives an invitation which warns her she will be cursed if she doesn’t attend. She realizes the home owner will most likely attend, the same man who left her at the alter 7 years before, and then left town the next day, never returning until now. Although that has made her the butt of cruel gossip from the other young women in town, she never wavers about going once she decides to attend. She still loves him as well as being extremely angry with him.
Woven into this love story is mystery, intrigue, and danger. As it unfolds we learn just where William Gerard has been these past 7 years and what he has been doing. With his return to England and Dredthorne Hall he has brought the means to give the English a leg up for the allies’ war on the French. The French soldiers tracking him are quite willing to kill him to get back what he has. The French have been waging a war for years (known as the Peninsular War) in the early 1800s. The English have been allies of those the French are fighting. As things progress, Hazel keeps us guessing if Jennet or William will get through this alive or without serious injury. One wonders whether they will ever get back together even once the danger is over. Hazel Hunter is my FAVORITE because she is such a great story teller. The genre doesn’t seem to matter. I have read her stories of the paranormal, witches, warlocks, time travelers, shifters, and immortal characters. She develops awesome characters in any genre she writes about. The characters in this book are “normal” people (no extraordinary gifts) , and she makes them very real. If you are like me, before the end of the first chapter you will be hooked and anxious to continue reading this latest book.
The final book in this series
I have loved this series but I have to say this one was my favourite of all three
Jennet was ditched at the altar seven years ago and since then has stayed away from men When she learns the man she loved, who left her at that altar is back in town she tries to ignore the feelings being dredged up. Upon receiving an invitation to a masquerade ball at Dredthorne Hall, she accepts in the hopes of moving on but hasn’t accounted for what seeing William will do to her or how she will feel if they encounter each other However, danger lurks at Dredthorne Hall but will they succumb to it or be victorious?
A fabulous story which I loved I have to admit while I’m reading these stories in this trilogy by Hazel, it makes me really appreciate all the technological marvels we have that they didn’t have back then and allows me a chance to imagine what those times might’ve been like for their era
I received an advanced copy from HH and I voluntarily leave my honest review
Mistress of Sins
Dredthorne Hall #3
Hazel Hunter
Jennet Reed receives an invitation that states if she doesn’t attend the All Hallow’s Eve masquerade being held at Dredthorne Hall, her family will be cursed forever. Or so her upset Mother insists after receiving the note that she takes as a threat. Jennet however knows better, but to make her mother happy, she agrees to attend. It starts out as a lavish ball and a lighthearted evening until an uninvited guest arrives.
Baron Greystone, who Jennet loved with all of her heart has returned. You see seven years ago Greystone left Jennet without so much as an explanation at the alter and it very nearly destroyed her. Now he has returned to Renwick and Jennet doesn’t want to see him. Though Jennet has sworn him off her heart has other plans for her. He tells her an astonishing story which she finds a tad heard to believe, but when circumstances change and lethal visitors arrive in his wake she realizes that he is telling the truth.
Hazel Hunter ends this series on a high note. This story was utterly fascinating and I couldn’t stop reading. Another perfect couple find eachother at Dredthorne Hall and defeat their foes. I absolutely adored Jennet. She was beautiful, feisty, and she had a knack for sniffing out the truth. She had no qualms about doing what needed to be done. Greystone was the perfect man and hero. He also did what had to be done, but was finally honest with Jennet and that made the story that much better.
Ms. Hunter you did a great job with this series.
Greystone and Jennet….my favorite couple from the Dredthorne series. Ms. Hunter’s writing and storytelling are impeccable, as usual. Her characters come life and jump off the page and straight into your head and heart. Definitely recommend this book, this series and this author!!
This is a fantastic conclusion to the trilogy. I completely fell down the proverbial rabbit hole with this one. Great characters, a bit of spice and tons of suspense. I love the strong female characters. Brilliant read.
I voluntarily read an arc of this book for an honest review. Absolutely devoured this one! I love everything Dredthorne Hall…this book is no exception. Poor Jennett is the pity of every and the joke of many. Considered a spinster at the ripe old age of 27, she’s made her peace with it all. Being left at the alter by the love of her life didn’t break her and nothing else would either. William, the heart breaker, is said to be returning for a costume party she’s been invited to. Well, that’s fine with her but if she sees him he won’t like the results. I really couldn’t imagine how Hazel Hunter was going to make this right. The twists and turns in the plot were not only shocking but exciting and interesting. More paranormal activity in this one which I loved and some pretty crazy love scenes for this period. I hope there are more from this series
“O, what a tangled web we weave”! Secrets and mysteries abound in this third book about Dredthorne Hall, and I certainly wasn’t expecting the final twist in the storyline. When Greystone left Jennet at the alter seven years ago, little did she think that he would be back in her life bringing danger with him. I enjoyed the sparring between these two well suited characters, and especially liked final comments by Jennet’s mother Margaret. The Reverend’s contribution to this story had me smiling. This was a great book.
Moody atmosphere, a curse, mystery and secrets. This last book in the series was just the escapist entertainment I needed. Second chance romance done right.
