Fanella Grant was hoping for adventure when she arrived at Chatwell Castle for the wedding of Lady Claresta Copeland and Donovan MacGregor – but what she finds is far more exciting and could lead to the adventure of a lifetime.
Ethan Copeland is the Duke of Ellings nephew and has traveled with some of his siblings to England. His eldest brother is in line for the dukedom as their father is his heir. Darius has come to learn about the estate and several of his siblings joined him. Ethan has enjoyed his time in England, but misses his home in New Orleans, he plans to return after the wedding, but when he meets Fanella, he is suddenly not so eager to return.
When Fanella sneaks off to explore, Ethan follows and when they hide from the servants to avoid being caught alone, they end up locked in the wine cellar for hours and they spend the time talking and drinking. Finally, Ethan recalls his pet parrots Rogue and Lady are in the kitchens and sings a song sure to bring Rogue to Ethan’s side. Ethan’s plan works and he sends Rogue to fetch his sister. Everyone is sworn to secrecy and they think they are in the clear – that is until Rogue blabs!
They manage to convince everyone that nothing happened and it was completely innocent, but the problem is, they can’t seem to stay away from each other or stop kissing, but they aren’t sure what they are feeling is love and want time to find out – but thanks to Rogue’s loose beak – they might not have a choice!
I thought this was a cute novella and I enjoyed the story, but it did drag a bit, had some title errors and I really wish the author would have included Rogue and Lady in the epilogue, they played such a big part in the story and had a bit of a storyline themselves that was dropped. Overall, it was a fun, sweet read with kissing only love scenes, likeable characters, amusing moments and HEA complete with an epilogue.

Cute story. Ethan and Fanella accidentally get locked in the dungeon’s wine cellar. While waiting to be found, of course they indulge in a little too much wine, which results in a kiss. They are found by Ethan’s parrots, Rogue and Lady, who not only tell what they hear, but also what they see. Love these parrots! I received an ARC of this book.
The event of the Christmas season was the wedding of Donovan MacGregor and Lady Claresta Copeland, daughter of a duke, to be held at Chatwell Castle. Fanella Grant was bursting to explore the castle from turret to dungeon and her imagination was so fanciful! Her and her family had come to attend the festivities which were lasting for a fortnight. Fanella was just delightful! Full of energy and wanting to explore and learn new things. Well, that got her in a little bit of a pickle when she ventured to the dungeons and was followed by Ethan. It was his cousin marrying the groom and he was visiting from America. Well, let the fun begin! Let’s just say the two became locked up together and a pernicious Parrot named Rogue went for help!! What an adventure..
Just adored this story and Jane Charles I can tell had a lot of fun bringing these two together! I could not wait to see what happened and this is a story you do not want to miss!! Loved it!
I enjoyed reading this story. I found myself drawn into the world of Fanella and Ethan. The love reads almost like a romantic comedy. The jumps and hurdles Fanella and Ethan had to endure just to steal a kiss or two will have the reader giggling. This is a sweet love story of two people who went to a family wedding to search for adventure.
In the end they found adventure together that will last the rest of their lives.

Just what I needed! Loving Christmas Story in July!
Ethan Copeland is in England with some of his siblings. His older brother Darius will someday inherit the Dukedom and so both his father and Uncle (the current Duke) feel he needs to learn the ropes. They are attending his cousin wedding and meets Fanella Grant. She is attending the wedding with her family and is quite thrilled with the castle. Ethan takes a shine to the lass and the two start exploring all parts of the castle…Even getting lock in the dungeon. Along with Ethan’s comical Parrots Rogue and Lady the two become quite close.
This is a wonderful love story. Quite simply a love story. Clean and funny. No major drama but lots of laughs. The Duke and Duchess and loving and kind and make everyone feel welcomed including their heir and nieces and nephews. Usually you find jealousy and betrayal but not with this tale. A very enjoyable story during a troubling quarantine time.
The story was great! You have to suspend reality in regards to how Fanella and Ethan acted as single people, knowing the repercussions for their actions and still going places alone? I loved Ethan and how he was trying to keep the situation calm while avoiding upsetting Fanella’s brother and family! Thank you for the advanced copy!
Fanella was an adventurous and spirited woman. Her determination to be her own person led her to some ups and downs. Ethan was a protective gentleman with a past that had stayed with him. Together these two were amusing, steamy, and good for the other. I loved how they compromised to find a balance in their lives. The rest of the story was entertaining with a couple of parrots and four scheming maiden aunts. I recommend this story.
I received a copy of this story as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.

A feel good story that often had me laughing out loud. Rogue & Lady added so much, his ill timed sayings had me laughing & that she only spoke to tell him to be quiet – hilarious
I loved both Ethan & Fanella although I did think she was naïve as she was compromised quite a few times. I loved how she reacted to a hangover. A well written story that had me engrossed from cover to cover & truly lifted my mood
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
An adventurous miss, a house party, an American, a talking parrot and a wedding – that says it all.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

My review :
When a parrot plays matchmaker or troublemaker …
What a fun read this one was!
As always Mrs Jane Charles does not disappoint. I do love how she brings her characters together, it is not insta-love, but a good chemistry and while they got along quite well, their living places are very far from each other, thus to them to consider if they are willing to test fate with their heart.
Fanella has an adventurous spirit but will it be enough to wager her future with a man living on an other continent.
Ethan has always known this trip to the old continent will only be temporary, but what he is to do when he falls for a lass so far away from home.
It was a lovely read as both do not deny their attraction, it is more the circumstances that leave them circumspect, as none wants to drop everything behind without knowing if they are right for one another.
This their willingness to explore their compatibility, not openly.
Add to their struggles a too vocal parrot and three meddling useless chaperones and some prickly Scots, you have a quick and fun read.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I had not realized it was part of a series, but it was good as a stand alone. Although the story takes place at one location, a castle over a matter of weeks, the story was never dull. It was quite entertaining. Loved Rogue and Lady and hope the next book mentions them.
The characters were wonderful. I liked the side characters as well as the hero and heroine. I would love to read more about this couple and the others in the book. Definitely putting the series on my wish list. My only complaint would be I wish the story was longer and a little into their married life.
The book has some kissing, but no sex. For those that do not like to read sex scenes.
I’m a huge fan and love how fun and unique her books are. Fanella and Ethan are such a fun, cute couple but the addition of Rogue and Lady make the book. Rogue is really only trying to help Ethan along with his relationship with Fanella though he doesn’t exactly go about it gracefully. Ethan doesn’t think love can happen so fast “but his heart knew Fanella, or his soul.” Enchanting, sweet romance.
This was a fun, short book with a fun-loving couple and entertaining family members. We have English, Scots and Americans that are all attending a family wedding at a Duke & Duchess’ Estate.
Ethan Copeland’s father sent him to England to meet his uncle the duke and see if there was anything for him there as he was a nephew to the duke. Ethan brought some of his family with him and his two parrots, Rogue and Lady (Rogue was a impish player in this story). Ethan was to stay until the wedding was over and then he would return to New Orleans with whatever siblings wanted to return and would leave the others to stay in England. He never expected to experience the stubborn, fiery, whiskey drinking Fanella.
Fanella Grant is full of adventure and is so excited to attend the wedding at the castle – she cannot wait to explore all of the wonderful history and what she can learn. She is funny, stubborn and lovely and the very first night at the castle, she finds herself locked in a cell in the old dungeon that the duke now uses at his wine cellar – but she is not alone, Ethan was giving her a tour when the door became locked. They were rescued after Rogue, the parrot. found Ethan’s sister to get keys before any one saw them together. The problem is Rogue has a big beak and what he sees & what he hears is always shared with others.
I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.
