It’s beginning to look a lot like… Murder. It’s Christmastime, and farmer Lucy Resnick is living the life she’s always dreamed of. When she’s not selling her jams, soaps, and mistletoe bundles at the Buttercup Christmas Market, she’s enjoying cozy evenings by the fire with her knitting group–or her handsome veterinarian boyfriend Tobias Brandt. But less than a week before Christmas, a pall … Christmas, a pall falls over the festive atmosphere when local man Randy Stone turns up with a knife in his back… and a sprig of mistletoe in his hair.
Local sheriff Rooster Kocurek, never the brightest bulb on the string, is convinced it’s an open-and-shut case–murder by jealous wife–but Lucy suspects otherwise. She soon discovers that Randy’s life was more tangled than last year’s Christmas lights… and that unless she wraps up the case fast, there might be more than one funeral this holiday season.

Lucy is preparing for Christmas on the farm. She spends much of her time at the Christmas Market selling her wares and is running out of time to finish her own gift shopping. Her free evenings are spent with her knitting group or her boyfriend Tobias, the town veterinarian.
Only days before Christmas the town is rocked by a murder. A local man is stabbed in the parking lot of his in-law’s restaurant. Rooster, the local sheriff, arrests the man’s wife and refuses to look elsewhere for a murderer. Lucy is asked by the family to prove the woman’s innocence and hopes she can do so before the holiday.
This is the 4th book in the Dewberry Farm Mystery series. This book could stand alone, but this series is definitely worth the read. I love the setting of Lucy’s peaceful farm in Texas as well as the small town of Buttercup. The characters are well developed and realistic. The story moves at a good pace and the book is hard to put down. I enjoy this series very much and it is difficult not to read each book one after the other.
Mistletoe murder Dewberry farm mysteries bk 4 Karen Macinerney
Lucy Resnick has moved to Buttercup, Tx. from Houston and bought her grandmother’s old farmhouse. She left her investigator reporter job for farming. Friends turn to her to use her investigating skills to help solve three mysteries. It is a cute story with southern and Texan ways delightfully spread through the story. I figured the plot out early but enjoyed the story and the read.
A festive story about a farmer and her crafts, her veterinarian boyfriend, and her knitting group as they prepare for Christmas. When a murder occurs in her small Texas town, she proves to also be talented at sleuthing.
Such a fun cozy! Perfect holiday read that will keep you guessing!
Great book from an enjoyable series.
It’s Christmas time in Buttercup and Lucy is selling her homemade products at the Christmas fair. All is going well until the sister of one of her friend’s is accused of murder. Because the sheriff is a bumbling fool, more interested in deer hunting than looking for the facts and investigating the crime.
The characters and mysteries are what draw me to books by Karen MacInerney. She writes four series, but each book stands alone. I recommend these books to all my fellow mystery readers.
It’s the week leading up to Christmas, and the town of Buttercup, Texas, is buzzing about the skeleton recently uncovered in the city hall renovations. However, that changes when a dead body turns up in the parking lot of the local Mexican restaurant. The victim is Randy Stone, and the sheriff thinks it’s a case of a jealous wife stabbing her husband. But Lucy Resnick isn’t so sure, so she begins her own investigation, hoping to find the truth. Can she do it before an innocent woman spends the holiday in jail?
It was wonderful to pop in on these characters for a second Christmas mystery. The plot is strong with several good surprises before we reach the local climax. Lucy and her boyfriend are fantastic. While Lucy’s friends are all here, the spotlight is on a different one this time, and I loved her sub-plot. I did find a couple of continuity errors early on, but they were minor and didn’t affect anything as far as the mystery itself goes. Throw in seven delicious sounding recipes, and you’ve got a Christmas winner.
The more books I read in the Dewberry Farm series, the more I want to move to a small town in Texas! Mistletoe Murder is another winner from Karen MacInerney – set at Christmastime in the very cozy town of Buttercup. Murder is always depressing, but especially at the holidays, and when Lucy Resnick is asked to help clear the name of her friend’s sister who is accused of killing her cheating husband she has her work cut out for her. Meanwhile, old bones and valuable paintings found during the restoration at the courthouse may be clues to the disappearance of another man. Nicely woven tale, and a quick and clever mystery. A+
I enjoyed it as I have the rest of the series!
My all-time favorite author, Ms MacInerny never fails to deliver a great story. Impatiently waiting for more!
Winter has arrived in the little town of Buttercup, Texas and once again a killer is loose. Buttercup is the home of novice farm girl Lucy Resnick who is struggling to maintain her grandmother’s farm. The town is in the throes of Christmas season when the body of Randy Stone is found dead at local favorite restaurant Rositas. Everything points to a crime of passion, with his wife Isabella being implicated for offing her cheating man. Lucy, who is a former investigative reporter, goes in search for the true killer.
I generally don’t read many mysteries but I thoroughly enjoy all of Karen MacInerney’s cozy mystery series. I especially enjoy her Dewberry Farm Mysteries for the Texas references and setting. I am looking forward to furthering adventures in Buttercup, Texas.
