He’s world famous. The most eligible bachelor in Hollywood.Owns the stage and thousands of hearts around the world. The bassist of Unquiet Mind.Rock royalty. But he’s none of that to me.To me, he’s just Wyatt. The teenager I met in my best friend’s garage.I promised him he’d never get into my bed or into my heart. It turns out I lied.
This book was bloody amazing! But then again, this series has been a game changer from the very first book. This story literally played out in front of me like a movie, with characters that seemed so real and genuine, I couldn’t get enough!
I never saw anything coming and I love that about this author’s books. It’s absolutely unpredictable and absolutely addictive. The angst in this book is off the charts intense and there were so many times I wanted to reach through the screen and shake the Wyatt and Emma for being so clueless and naive. I understood their feelings but they just needed a shove in the right direction.
If I could recommend you anything, it’d be this series and specifically this author. You definitely won’t regret it!
5 Couples who fight together… Stars
Mistake’s Melody is the fourth book of Unquiet Mind series. Emma and Wyatt have had a love/hate relationship for over a decade. Will they, won’t they, get together through previous Unquiet Mind books has kept us on our toes. Both have been fecked up by their parents in the past and what drives both to run away from love.
“I don’t write songs, words,” he rasped. “I’m the melody guy. But babe, you’re too chaotic to put into a melody.”
I couldn’t help but root for Emma and Wyatt throughout this book, despite their stupidity and frustration at them both this is a great story full of emotions and angst. I love with Anne’s book that we get all of the band, Secondary characters make a book great for me.
“True art makes you uncomfortable,” I said, moving to stand. “It makes you question your life after and before looking at it. It makes you imagine what the artist was living when they painted it. But the answer is they were living the painting.”
A common occurrence whenever I read a book by Anne Malcom, major book hangover! Emma and Wyatt’s love story is not an easy one. They both had horrendous childhoods that have affected them into adulthood. However, they are both survivors and had the strength to move on and make something of themselves, but still riddled with scars. We definitely get more of Emma’s pain so I was able to empathize more with her. The early years for her were tough and so heartbreaking, but she dragged herself out of the gutter all on her own, even though there were so many who were willing to help her. She already had some major trust issues so when Wyatt hurt her, he almost destroyed her. Due to his own upbringing, he stayed away from her because of his fear of inflicting more pain on her, instead he hurt her more than anyone else. But with the help of his bandmates, he realizes his mistakes and makes it his mission to protect her and have her in his life.
Another beautifully written story of two broken souls who finally find what they were denied when they were children. They are absolutely perfect for each other. I loved it all!!
Wyatt and Emma were quite the ride! Extraordinary. Everyone knows I fangirl Anne Malcom pretty hard and this book is a perfect example of why.
It’s brave. It’s honest. It’s funny AF and it’s also gonna rip your heart out at times. I might have sent the author SHOUTY CAPS messages A LOT in this one, but I still love her. Buckle up for an emotional roller coaster with these two!!! Love isn’t always easy.
Have been waiting for this story for what feels like forever, & boy was it worth the wait!
Ms Malcom yet again pulls at all your heart strings, and writes in such a way that it’s impossible to put the book down.
Was great being back in the lives of Unquiet Minds, will be sad letting them go after Noah’s story
An emotional tug of war
Wyatt and Emma are the next couple to find themselves together in this series However, not everything is coming up roses. Wyatt and Emma have known each other for years, ever since Emma’s bestie Lexie joined the guys to form a band for their musical outlets. Their relationship changes over the years, until one night together creates a bond neither is strong enough to ignore or break.
The relationship between these two characters is tumultuous and feels much like an emotional tug of war, but both have had painful paths that have led them to this point and will make or break them.
A must read series and author
I’m not sure where to start with my review of Mistake’s Melody from the Unquiet Mind series. I wasn’t even 30% into the book before I was blubbering through the tears and shooing everyone away from me because I was so deep into the characters. One of the things I love most about Anne Malcom’s writing is that her characters are never shiny without imperfections. If anything she has a knack for putting her characters flaws front and center and making us fall in love with them instead of revolt against them.
In Mistake’s Melody when learn the story of Wyatt, the bass player for Unquiet Mind and Emma the best friend to Unquiet Mind’s lead singer Lexie. The book starts out in a sort of flash back mode, but I love that the author doesn’t leave us in flashback for the majority of the book. One thing I am personally not a fan of is when a book has flashback, but it’s either every other chapter or the first half of the book. Sometimes a flashback can become unnecessary to the story and we end up with more information that we needed, thus leaving me bored and skipping pages. This story does not do that at all. Anne does a good job of giving us the information we need from the flashback and then moving on. Once we are in “present day” of the book she dives into the now of who Wyatt and Emma are and I have to tell you that Emma is probably one of my favorite characters from all of Anne’s books. She’s so emotionally flawed but strong and even though as a reader I wanted her to break through so she could be with Wyatt, I loved that she never let him get by with anything. If he does something that screws with her, she holds him accountable. It seems like it books, even when the heroine is strong, she constantly gives in or doesn’t hold strong to her feelings, but Emma never does that. It’s not about holding a grudge, it’s more about not allowing him to just get away with screwing up. Wyatt of course has his own set of issues that he is dealing with as well so between the two of them it seems like they just running into brick walls instead of breaking through them.
If you haven’t read the book then you might want to stop here because this may be a spoiler issue for you. When Wyatt and Emma finally come together there is a huge conflict that happens and then even bigger than that, Emma ends up pregnant. Now, I am a total sucker for an unplanned baby in a romance. I know that’s not everyone’s cup of tea and honestly I have read some books where it just felt like they were throwing a baby in the mix because they didn’t know what else to do but I loved this happening with Wyatt and Emma. Again I am total sucker for this trope but with everything else that happened in the book it made sense to the storyline.
I loved getting to read about the characters from the other Unquiet Mind books and how they all played into the relationship between Wyatt and Emma.
I have been intrigued by Wyatt and Emma from the first time they appeared in Echos of Silence. I have been waiting for their story and was not disappointed. I love that we get that feeling of being in all the stories. It was like being family.
Emma is very much an independent woman and has built her life to where it is without help and her independence butts up against Wyatt’s alpha male tendencies, which makes for a fiery relationship. When things happen and Emma asserts her independence and her desire take care of herself, it nearly makes Wyatt nuclear.
While this book can be read as a stand alone, I would encourage anyone to read from the beginning of the series as you won’t be sorry. As always Anne gives us a roller coaster ride that at the time is terrifying but when over you want to go again.
Emma and Wyatt met fighting, and they’ve continued for almost a decade. Wyatt – 1/4 of the group Unquiet Minds and Emma – the sad girl whose parents were completely destructive in a way few will ever understand.
“If we do this ” – I motioned between us- “we’re going to be strangers again one day. We’re going to have to go through the process of decomposition, that painful and frightening horrific process. So you’ll excuse me if I want us to stay strangers – in that sense of the word. For both of our sakes.”
After many years of fighting separately, the time is right for Wyatt and Emma to fight together. Unfortunately Wyatt is going to continue to make some piss poor decisions. And when he’s done making those mistakes he might find right where he was always meant to be.
“True art makes you uncomfortable,” I said, moving to stand. “It makes you question your life after and before looking at it. It makes you imagine what the artist was living when they painted it. But the answer is they were living the painting.”
Don’t be afraid to get stuck in with Wyatt and Emma, you won’t regret it! Even though it takes Wyatt and Emma a little longer, it’s all that much sweeter for the love they lose, and gain, and fight to get back.”
For everyone of Anne Malcom’s stories I have to be in the right place at the right time, but with all of them I come away a little bit more loved, a little bit stronger that she loves these characters, and her stories enough to share them.
I’m an Unquiet Minds Fan for life!
I am ashamed to admit that coming into Mistake’s Melody I haven’t yet read the first three books in the Unquiet Mind series, yet they sit patiently on my kindle for the privilege such is my faith in this lady’s talented writing ability. But it in no way took away from the experience of this book.
If anything they’ve been moved up my to-read list, and I am now gearing up for an impatient wait for Noah’s story!
There’s true pain in this story, and it’s vividly captured in these two troubled souls.
As much as this is Emma’s story I was more intrigued and connected to Wyatt as the story developed, perhaps in sympathy as she continually pushes him away.
She’s one tough cookie, having pulled herself from a loveless childhood devoid of nurture to become a true independent warrior who appears to need no one.
But this girl does a fabulous job of lying to herself and to us most of the way through this story, and unfortunately though I did grow a little tired of the drawn out battle between her and Wyatt through the middle of the book, it is well worth sticking it out for it’s somewhat predictable, though no less satisfying conclusion that is peppered with high drama and intense emotion that these two ultimately live by and deserve.
Anne does it again! I really loved this book! I can’t wait to see what we get next from this amazing author!
MC-tinted Music Tragedy Romance
I know I say this after each of Anne’s stories, but I must repeat myself and share just what an incredible writer she is!
The fourth book in her Unquiet Mind series, Mistake’s Melody reunites us with Wyatt, rock star bassist, and Emma, the girl who needs no one, especially Wyatt, and with good reason. These two are so bad for each other it is good.
Anne’s books cause visceral pain to read, but are so worth every tear, every curse, every chance her characters take to be unconventional, and every single moment you have spent with them is worth it.
nne Malcom has done it again!!!!
As soon as I read the first page I knew I was a goner. It was time to lock myself away and devour Emma and Wyatt’s story. Anne has this magical gift of bringing the characters to life.
I don’t want to give anything away cause this is must read for all. I laughed, cried, yelled and was heartbroken for these two but the emotional rollercoaster ride is so worth it.
I absolutely recommend this book and the Unquiet Mind series!
Sweet Holy Hell
This author. If ever I need someone to rip me apart, make me laugh, make me cry, and then put me back together again then she is the author to do it to me. EVERY. TIME. The way that she writes characters that have so many layers of pain but still manage to be survivors astounds me. She creates a visceral sensation that is unlike just about anything I have ever encountered before when it comes to reading. I feel it in every ounce of my being. She gives me words that I didn’t know I wanted or even needed. Case and point, this story, I loved both Wyatt and Emma before but had no idea I needed to know more than a true glossing over of their story. Well, that is a lie because I would take a story written about the milkman from this author.
In typical fashion, this author created a story that was flawed, beautiful, and bumpy. It dealt with a pretty heavy subject (a couple of them in fact) which was refreshing to see broached. Her characters were jaded and bore the scars that their childhood had left on them. They way they showed their affection in their bantering and fighting had me laughing and also feeling sad for them. Yet, I understood it because it was safer to hide behind that then to show the fear of what feelings were lying underneath the surface.
I could relate to Emma in so many ways, having lived a tumultuous childhood myself. It is hard to let the cynicism go and trust especially when the life that has been dealt has proven that love comes with conditions. She uses words and sarcasm to keep people at bay because it is safer. Even though she truly loves Wyatt, it is easier to push him away especially after he makes a mistake regarding how he handled a certain situation.
“You can’t turn all those mistakes and try to make them a fucked -up melody.” Her tongue is barbed and at times lethal and would give an adder a run at being the most vicious. Yet in the same breath, she has the jokes, and sarcasm, and glib one-liners that make her endearing. Her fears are legitimate and her struggle for self-worth is heartbreaking.
Bless Wyatt’s heart for seeing all the chaos and standoffishness and realizing that a rose wouldn’t be a rose without thorns. He is equal part a charming devoted gentleman juxtaposed with sexy rock-god. Some of the passages he said to Emma in order for her to see his true feelings was the stuff of legends. AND, the stuff he said to make her see her self-worth was even better. My jaded black heart just about grew out of my chest.
“I know,” he whispered. “that’s why I want you to marry me, to spend your life with me. Because you’re not my fan, you’re my equal. And if anyone’s going to worship at someone’s altar, it’s gonna be me.” He kissed the side of my neck. “Because of your cynicism, because of your pain, your strength, your scars…Your heart, your smile, your damaged and magnificent soul. I don’t give a fuck if the world worships me. If you don’t. I just give a fuck if you’re by my side, not at my knees.”
Also, Add in his dirty talking mouth, sweet lord I just can’t with this guy. I had no idea he would become one of my favorite heroes of the many amazing ones that this author has written but he did. I guess the old saying is true, its the quiet unassuming ones that we need to watch out for. Dimples help too.
“But I’m an asshole who’s gonna eat your pussy, ’til you scream, fuck you ’til you can’t remember your name and make sure everything you need is at your fingertips. So you got a problem with that?”
Like every book this author writes, there is an underlying message that offers so many things but especially hope. In this case, it Mistakes doesn’t necessitate something that is bad or that shouldn’t have happened. How they are handled determines if someone is a disillusioned victim or whether they, in turn, grow from it. Often times, or at least in my case, it is the Universes way of giving me just what I need to propel me forward, teach me a lesson, and help me gain the insight needed to open up and allow myself to be both vulnerable and resilient. This author wrote two of my favorite books last year and already in the first month of this year has sealed another favorite. I cannot wait to see what else is coming from her.
If you have never read an Anne Malcom book you are missing a truly talented writer. This lady has a way with words. Unquiet Mind series just blows me away. I hsve been waiting on these two broken souls to get their book, Emma and Wyatt did not disappoint. Both have suffered abuse at the hands of those that are supposed to love them and its left them shattered, but find their way to each other. I loved it.
I really enjoyed this series and have been waiting for Wyatt and Emma’s story. The angst, drama and their chemistry will keep you hooked until the end. I can not wait for the conclusion of this series with Noah’s book!!!
Anne Malcom does it again with a story that punches you with every emotion that you can think of. Emma and Wyatt make you laugh , make you angry , make you sob but most of all at the end they make you smile.
You can’t but help love these characters even when they are being idiots.
This rock star book as it all 100% heart wrenching angst , surprises galore , rock and roll sexiness , and so much chemistry it seeps out of every page.
The dialogue is incredibly smart, thought provoking and funny especially when Emma and Wyatt are arguing and boy do they argue. Each book in this series just gets better and better.
Anne Malcom has done it again! The continuation of her Unquiet Mind series has left me absolutely floored and even more in love with this series than I was before.
Emma and Wyatt’s story isn’t easy, but goodness is it worth it. These two will forever be in my heart. I yelled, laughed, I swooned, I teared up.
Emma is officially one of my favorite Characters in this series. She’s so strong and beautiful.
Trust me when I say you need this book!!! I absolutely recommend it!!
I’ve been waiting for this book forever. I’m sure it’s been forever. But, part of me knew it would be a tough read. I should never doubt the incredible story telling of AM. She is amazing and this story is amazing. I think in any other author’s hands I would have hated both of these characters. They have serious commitment issues, but AM overcomes all this and whenever I was afraid too much angst and heartache would break the story, she pulls me back into the light. She never lets the story go into complete train wreck mess level. We are in good hands. The epilogue made my romantic heart sing- beautiful. I can’t imagine liking this book as much as I did if I hadn’t read the first books in the series. I love this series. I love AM. And I loved Emma and Wyatt- finally!
Book 4 of Unquiet Mind. PLEASE read them in order… you don’t want to spoil it for yourself.
Wyatt & Emma were as stubborn and difficult as I knew they would be. Both come from a very damaged past- parents that had no business being parents. And now they have to figure out how to do life together. Spoiler alert…it doesn’t come easy. Or peacefully.
