Three trials stand between Lera and exile. Unless the training kills her first. Quint magic has never chosen a human before, and the Elders Council is convinced Lera is a mistake. When the quint refuses to be cleaved apart, the enraged elders give them a choice: exile from Lunos or demotion to the lowest of trainees. Subject again to the humiliations and deadly trials they endured centuries ago, … trials they endured centuries ago, the males now face a new challenge—training Lera to survive.
River, Shade, Coal, and Tye will do whatever it takes to keep Lera safe. But Lera will do whatever she must to keep them together—even if it means putting herself in mortal danger.
MISTAKE OF MAGIC is a full-length reverse-harem fantasy novel, sequel to the Amazon bestseller, POWER OF FIVE.

Definitely better than book 1!
Absolutely loved Book 2 in the Power of Five series by Alex Lidell! I got really sucked into Book 1 by the end and then went right into Book 2 because I had noooo self control and needed to read more about Lera and her men. Book 2 did not disappoint! I especially loved the mating issue (and how they got to that point hehe) with Shade, loved River lowering down his walls, as well as Cole, and Tye being Tye and lightening the mood and being there for Lera when she needed it. I really enjoyed the different trials and Lera learning about her powers (with the help of River’s super smart sister). I think Alex did a great job with the villains in this story as well (those on the Council and in other quints). Aaaand can’t wait to see what happens with the fierce female quint leader and River’s sister…that could be fun watching them circle each other/get to know one another haha. Overall, amazing and brilliant, can’t wait for more I will say my only pet peeve is “stars” and exclamations. It got really repetitive starting in this book.
I also thought the narration was better in this audiobook. Was enraptured the whole time, the accents were more solid and consistent, and the inflections were spot on. Book 1 was more of a 4 star performance and this one is a 4.5 star performance. Can’t wait for Book 3 to come out and especially for it to be released on audio. Will definitely be a one-click purchase
River, Shade, Coal, and Tye are steadfast in keeping Lera safe, but Lera’s only goal is to keep the Quint together no matter what they have to endure to survive or the price she may have to pay.
Love how these characters are evolving and the relationship is developing not just a romp in bed. We have a definite plot and a continual developing storyline. Can’t wait to listen to the next book.
Victoria Mei narrates and definitely holds your attention from beginning to end.

Thoroughly enjoyable. Well written.
River brings his quint to the Citiadel to renew their pledge before the council of elders, but things don’t go as planned. They find themselves as first trials. Lera starts to learn the enormity of what means for her males when she agreed to the council ‘s condition. Her males are determined to make it through the trials with their new quint intact.
The unexpected happens in their first trial, River surrenders to protect Lera. Shade’s wolf can no longer resist the mate pull. His binding Lera to him only makes things harder for them all. Soon Cole pays the price.
Autumn arrives with much need answers. Lera requests the second trial, to protect her males. The second trial doesn’t go as planned and Cole along with Shade suffer for it. Now the council know the secret about Lera that River tried so hard to protect. Just maybe Kalrissa is not the bad guy.
Fast paced and steamy. Can’t wait for the next book.
Phenomenal book!
I’m in love with this series. Once you start, you can’t stop. I love how the characters and their relationships develop. Really looking forward to the next one.
I’m just going to get it out in the air, here, right now; there is no such thing as second book syndrome with this series. Book 2 is def even more well-written and more intense than the previous one. Generally speaking, the read is focusing on the politics within the Citadel: the dogmatic elders and the despicable bullying happening among the trainees throughout the trials. All at the meantime, Lera and company are discovering the nature of the magic, of their bonds. And of course as a reader, getting to know each of the guy better. Last but not the least, the development of the romantic element of the story-aka the dynamics of the harem.
As the title suggests, Mistake of Magic is not just what the elders of the council initially thought regarding the rigteousness of the members of the quint, specifically Lera as a human member. Lera has left me an impression of grace and determination when she accepted the ruling of the magic. How she connected to the guys with such an ease, not in a literal sense, but more of an it-just-seems-natural kind of thing. However, I have learned that even the heroine herself thinks how she can’t be the one to complete the group. This of course shows when she thinks herself useless since individually she can’t seem to qualify as a warrior.
What she does not know though is how she brings life to the quint. At first, it might not be obvious. But later on, as she gains character to herself, I can clearly see how she def complements each of the guys. I also find it cool when I have discovered what her ability is, the explanation behind the concept of what has made her perfect for the quint.
Shade. Ahh, it may be because I’m a little biased but I really think he deserved to be the first bond to be formed. Alas, being first won’t equal to being the strongest bond.
Tye. This guy may speak and act all rascal-ish but he has a sensitive heart. Sensitive, and not the pansy sensitive kind, but more like…I understand now why he has to decline Lera’s offer during Book 1. Also, he’s firm because unlike Shade, he actually is pretty resolved to waiting for Lera to love him truly. In a much deeper sense.
Coal. I hurt sfm for this guy and I wish retribution for all the misdeeds done to him. I am going to wait patiently for that time. And when it finally comes, I will savor each and every word down to the dot and whatnot. For all the bravado he’s intent to show and the brutal training sessions with Lera, I think his connection with her is the strongest.
River. Even this fearless leader does have his own vulnerabilities. I understand that from his upbringing, he can’t help but distance himself to be able to see things with rational and objective eyes. Buuut, he can only go for too long before he breaks. I understand but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. Plus, because of that, he can barely listen to Lera. As shown by the sand incident during their training.
I have said before that I want the guys to redeem themselves after book 1. And they did well. Though no completely…but at least I have insights from them to help me understand them better.
However, this read has also raised a lot of questions. The most glaring of them all: Is Klarissa really the villain the main characters have painted her to be?
Shout out to Autumn and her sharpness! I love her so much I hope she’ll get her own book/series!
This is the second book on the Power of Five Series. The adventure continues. This story is amazing, well written, entertaining, fast-paced and captivating. I love the scenery. I love all the main characters: Leralynn (Lera), River, Shade, Coal and Tye. Their chemistry is strong and we learn more about them. I can’t wait for the next book in the Series. The narration is really great, as always with Victoria Mei. She does an amazing job with all characters and accents. She has a beautiful and soft voice easy to listen. She’s one of my favorite narrators. I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
Lera and the Quint make it to the Citadel. They make their choice to stay as a Quint and have to fight to stay as a group. Great second book but now i’m not so patiently waiting for book 3. Emotions and some twists thrown in . I can’t wait to see what happens next.
An action-packed and fulfilling second in series. I found myself easily hooked again (as with the first book) and excited to finally explore the Citadel. The story didn’t progress quite as much as I’d assumed but the relationships with her Quint, the emotional pulls, and the discoveries made this a minimal concern. I love the author’s writing style and her ability to set the scene so descriptively. It’s so easy to visualize and really brings the story to life. I can’t wait for the next book!
She claims the group a and now has to past 3 trials to stay together. They learn a lot of background and New information here that I will not spoil
Mistake of Magic picks up where Power of Five left off. Lera is a mixture of confidence and vulnerability. She is always willing to jump in and help her guys, but also questions her place. I’m not sure if this book was actually shorter, but it kept me absorbed and the story flew by. Hopefully book 3 is out soon!
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
I thought book one was good but this one totally blows it out of the water!! Lera and her quint are traveling to reinforce their bond instead of severing it. When they reach the place to do it we gets all kinds of drama, action, magic, steamy bits, and so very much more. Honestly there is so much awesomeness going on that I could not bring myself to put the book down once I got started as I had to know what happened next. Amazing world building, characters with layers of depth, and enough surprises to keep you turning the page. After everything that happened in this book I cannot wait to see where this goes next. An absolute must read for fans of the genre. I loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
Lera is a human woman choosen by magic to become part of a quina. The others are all powerfull immortal fae males. Coal, Tye, River, Shade. They are headed to the catadel to renew thier oath to the elders council only not everyone is happy thier quina is whole again and has a human on it. Klarissa a elder council member is trying to kill lera.
OMG What an amazing story, so full of fantastic action storyline, mystery, intrigue, drama, spice, betrayal, awesome characters and so much more. I couldn’t put this story down and I can’t wait for the next book to come out! I could read them over and over. There awesome.
Voluntarily reviewed a copy and I honestly loved it.
