A great story. Truly inspiring. Dana and Derek are delightful. The growth which Dana undergoes is phenomenal as is the recovery which Derek attains. The style, bouncing back and forth between the two main characters, worked for the most part, however there was occasionally a bit too much repetition. The story falls short of an HEA, but has superb potential so, nonetheless, I feel it’s a great story.
I received a review copy of this book from a third party. This is my honest review.
This second book in the Rise Again Warrior series is just as emotional and powerful as the first. Discovering that her parents have decided that the lifestyle they introduced her to should be withdrawn until Dana has learned a few lessons, was a total shock. Didn’t they realise that compassion and a sense of responsibility are learned behaviour? Nevertheless, Dana has more gumption than they gave her credit for and when she asks her cousin Shane for a job, she gets stuck in and actually makes a go of it. However, the homeless man who sleeps under the bench near her apartment has taken up residence in her mind. Comparing his behaviour with the residents of RAW, she realises that he is a military man, but before she can invite him to the facility, Derek is forced to go to her rescue and lands up at RAW anyway. A friendship develops between the unlikely pair and with time Dana begins to understand just how troubled Derek is. Her concern for him gives him the motivation to face his fears, but not without extreme trepidation and many raw tears. This incredibly emotional novel had me wiping my eyes and I felt relief at the final outcome. Despite the painful context of this book, it is not without humour and wit. It is also very well written and despite being part of a series, it is a standalone and comes to a good conclusion. I received a copy of this romance as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Phenomenal story. Absolutely phenomenal. This author has treated the returned men and women with so much dignity and compassion. I would recommend this book to anyone – 100%. Dana is a spoilt society girl until one day her parents cut her off. They want her to learn a lesson in compassion and empathy. She is moved from the penthouse to a much smaller apartment and now has to pay all of her own expenses. Whoah! How on earth is this society princess supposed to work for a living? Even though she has a business degree. Derek is a veteran living on the streets. They meet when she is having a conversation with her father on the phone outside near the bench Derek sleeps under. He can hear everything. When she sits on the bench, they both end up having a conversation. Dana ends up going to her cousin Shane to ask him for a job. Expecting it to be in a cushy office, she is astounded to see that she will be on the ground running, working for Rise Again Warriors. I just cannot convey just how much I enjoyed this book and the first one. I am really looking forward to seeing just what this author comes up with the third book.
