Love the twists in all his books
Coben tends to focus on what happens to ordinary people in extraordinary situations. Missing You doesn’t disappoint. If you worry about the dark, skulking side of the internet, this one might scare you forever from putting any personal data online.
When a second-generation police woman stumbles across her long-lost boyfriend on an internet dating site she starts digging. The coincidences are believable, but as you turn page after page, the nightmare becomes believable and the holes deeper.
She must unfold hidden chapters from her father’s career to solve the disappearance of a single mother. A calculating antagonist demonstrates how quickly greed devours morality.
Coben delivers a story from multiple points of view that culminate in a more grotesque ending than normal. Surprising. Riveting.
Harlan Coben never disappoints!
One of the most elaborate and incredible plots I have ever encountered. The twists and turns will make you dizzy. The speed will blow you away. Reminds me of a matrvoshka doll, aka: nesting dolls. It is like peeling an onion – one mystery inside another and another and…. Can’t imagine anyone besides Coben who could keep all the threads together and then tie them all up so nicely at the end. Nothing is quite as it seems. But OH! what a ride it is. Coben at his best!
You ever read an action sequence that has your fingers running through the pages?u2060

I love stuff by Harlan Coben but, sometimes, do struggle with the very, very intricate world he’s opened up to me as a Reader.u2060
u2060
Coben must plot out his books like an obsessed former police detective… that case they can’t shake… a spare bedroom with newspaper clippings on the walls, headlines, profile pictures with circles and question marks, the long red lines of string connecting pic to headline, headline to question.u2060

With Coben, they fit so snug in the end, it’s kinda hard to breathe. Usually, it’s really good.u2060

But in Missing You that’s not what stood out to me.u2060

There’s an action sequence that leads up to the Big Moment that is done just so well. I expect if I looked back, the damn thing probably went on for 40-plus pages.u2060

As an author, you start to break it down: How did he do that?u2060
u2060
Short sentences, “active” dialog, and quick scene changes. This latter is particularly crafty because he employs a device where we’ll be replayed a previous moment but this time from another character’s perspective.u2060
u2060
Just so well done.u2060

Have you read an action sequence that had you racing through it, running as fast as the protagonist or killer? u2060

I’d love to know and try to look under its hood.u2060

Very worth the read
Harlan Coben never fails to deliver a solid story, and I really like the character, Kat, a NYPD detective. The mystery will keep readers guessing until the end.

Once again Coben being Coben. Just another fantastic book! All his books should be movies.
