He immediately offers his help but is shocked to meet her young son–a boy who looks a lot like him. Emma Hart’s sister is abducted during a home invasion while Emma hides. She is surprised after contacting the recommended security company to see a bodyguard from her past, Sawyer Lance. Sara has stumbled across financial secrets at work that someone is going to great lengths to hide. Emma hires Sawyer, and I liked how they managed to reconnect to make a family of their own.
I really like this series. The mystery, action and romance grab you right from the start in each book. They can be read as stand-alones but once you read one you will want to find out what happens to each of the men. Missing in the Mountains is Sawyer Lance’s story.
Sawyer had a brief romance with Emma just before he was deployed. He expected to be gone for 6 weeks but he didn’t get back for about a year. What he went through was horrible. He thought of Emma all the time when he was away but thought it best not to contact her when he returned because he was a mess. Turned out that wasn’t a good idea.
After seeing her sister be abducted, Emma called the Police. When they moved too slowly, she called Fortress Defense not expecting Sawyer to answer the phone. When he met with her to help find her sister he was surprised to see it was Emma. And she had a surprise for him!
This book had a wonderful ending that left me smiling. If you like action-packed romantic mysteries, I highly recommend it.
Missing in the Mountains was my first Julie Anne Lindsey, but it won’t be my last. I loved this intrigue that was a wonderful mystery infused with a sweet second chance romance. From the first paragraph, you felt the suspense building. Emma’s sister, Sara, knew something was coming for her, and she didn’t want Emma and her four-month-old son, Henry, to be caught in the crossfire. Instead, when that something comes for her, Emma witnesses Sara be abducted by a man all in black. She hears his voice, but that’s the only identifying feature she has of him.
Sawyer Lance is haunted. Haunted by the memories of his time in the Army and the men who died there. Back home and building a new life, he doesn’t expect to get a phone call from the woman he left behind over a year ago, begging him to help her find her missing sister. The biggest surprise is yet to come for him, though, when he meets Henry for the first time.
Finding a new purpose in Emma and Henry, Sawyer does what he does best, protects and serves. He will help Emma find Sara and keep baby Henry and her safe while he does. Things don’t always go as planned for him and more often than not they’re caught up in a situation that is all danger and suspense, leaving you breathless to see who lives and who dies. The culmination of the story is perfectly paced and expertly executed in a way that keeps you turning the pages long into the night.
In the end, I loved the sweet HEA and the promise of a new couple and new mystery to come in this series. If you love a second chance romance expertly weaved into a suspenseful kidnapping and murder mystery then you don’t want to skip Missing in the Mountains!
Intense investigation to kidnapping and money laundering that escalates into much more, involving frantic action kept me on my toes. But it was the passionate, ardent and ah so adorable second chance romance that swept me off my feet. Julie Anne Lindsey writes the best kind of entertaining binge reading stories that take your mind off the present and into a riveting adventure. Highly recommended!
