It’s been a long time since I’ve stayed up until 3 am reading. I had a hard time putting this one down, even though at times I needed to. It was sometimes too painful to read. After I read the introduction I knew it was going to be emotional and the author gave me exactly that, I went through plenty of tissue.
Codie, what a strong woman, I have tears writing this because she was amazing. I’m seriously in awe of her strength and courage. She had been in such a broken state for so long, yet she was willing to, needed to heal and she knew it. I was so proud of her progress and hurt for her during her setbacks. I love the change in her when she recognized honest, good trustworthy people to help her through. She has a great support team. Her connection to Ryder is so strong as is his to her. Knowing what they both needed they could pull strength from each other. Her calming and coping methods, her understanding of his own past, his acceptance of every part of her and loving her completely; Just wow! The bond between these two is beautiful.
This is a realistic, heartbreaking, yet hopeful story that had my emotions all over the place from sadness, frustration and anger to feelings of comfort and promise. It flows nicely within the present as it gives glimpses into each of their past, which help deepen my connection with both Ryder and Codie. This is my first book by this author and I’m ready for more. I’m especially ready for more of Task Force 779. Explosive Encounter is coming not soon enough.
When a book pulls you in so completely that you don’t want to leave you know your on to a winner.
I cried, boy did I cry… But it was totally worth all the tears for the joy and love these characters bring to the page.
Bring supplies settle down and enjoy a read that will pull on every emotion in you body.
I was really scared to read Missing in Action. I can till this story meant a lot to KL Donn with how emotional and strong the characters fought their demons. My husband had severe panic attacks every time he walked out the front door of our house and reading how Codie react the same way really touched home for me. Ryder is a strong man and was very patient with Codie, and I love him for that. Everyone needs a strong support system for them to though life’s struggles. I’m really looking forward to see was Donn has is store for this series.
Both Ryder and Codie broke my heart, then slowly, they put it back together. Wonderful story of lost love and finding love, then to enduring love.
You ever read something that strings u you up emotionally from the first page? I cried during the first chapter if that alludes to the type of story you get. Codie and Ryder will make you heart hurt from the pain that no one should experience and the love that everyone craves.
Being such broken souls led these two down the path of creating a bond so strong that it outweighed all the bad creeping into both of their lives. Fear is the driving force and is a very real thing in their cases.
This story truly makes you FEEL. Keep your tissues handy and hang on for an emotionally intense journey.
When things go very wrong on a mission for Ryder Morrison, communications expert on a secret special ops military team, he’s captured and left for dead. The only thing that keeps him going through a year of extreme torture is that his team will find him and bring him home. He’s scarred emotionally and physically and still trying to recover. He’s ready to start living for himself now since that was the promise he made himself if he survived. He just hasn’t had a real reason to yet . . . until he meets his neighbor.
Codie Ray has suffered so much pain and loss in her life that she has locked herself away from the world, letting her anxieties take control of her life. Even opening the door is a real struggle for her. But, she can’t help but to secretly watch her neighbor as he runs past her house every morning. When the safe place she has created for herself in her home is violated, Codie can’t deal. She knows she can’t leave, but she also doesn’t feel safe . . . until Ryder steps in.
Their connection is immediate. Ryder finally has a reason to live for more than his job and Codie finally has someone willing to stay no matter what. Both are broken, but together they feel whole. But, the world isn’t done with them yet. Just when things start coming together, Ryder is compromised on a mission and taken prisoner again and Codie’s past catches up to her with her with a vengeance. Will they be able to survive and find their way back to one another or is it their destiny to lose one another and themselves for good?
Missing in Action was a very emotional romantic suspense. Both Codie and Ryder have been through so much. While it’s hard to imagine what it’s like to be a POW, Codie’s loss is something that many readers will unfortunately be able to identify with, giving a real emotional connection to this story.
This book has so much hurt and drama, that when good things start happening for Codie and Ryder it feels very uplifting. Readers will truly root for a happy ever after for this unconventional couple. It was also a great series starter and I appreciated getting glimpses of the rest of Ryder’s team so I can now anticipate their future stories. KL Donn fans will also enjoy catching up with Liam and Hayes from the Hogan Brother’s series since Hayes and Ryder are siblings. 4 stars!
Another amazing, emotional read from KL Donn! I finished this book over a week ago but couldn’t form words to describe how amazing this book really is. I’m still not sure I can but I’ll give it a shot.
I will start by saying that KL is a brilliant author who knows how to turn something so heartbreaking into something amazing! I didn’t want to put this book down for a second!
Codie is one strong woman! After everything she went through, all the pain, the heartache, every emotion you could think of, she survived!
This book really hit home for me. Donn hit every emotion perfectly. While reading, I felt every emotion that Codie dealt with.
I can’t wait for more in this new series!!
I received a copy of this book for my honest review.
This is the first book by K.L. Donn that I have ever read and I am happy to say that this will not be the last.
I was hooked from the very beginning. I am so glad that I read this at home with no one around because boy is this story emotional!! I don’t often cry when I read a book but this one really hit me.
The story is very well written and it is very much believable. I love Codie and Ryder together.
I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
If you are looking for an emotional book that has plenty of action then I do highly recommend this book. Just make sure you have tissues nearby.
I am giving this 5 out of 5 stars.
This book is everything and more! I knew it was going to be emotional and it was, mine were all over the place. Ryder is Codies new neighbor. They have both been through something tragic and trying to work through it. Hes protective of her from the start and does everything he can to help her through it all and to be able to move on. I fell in love with both of them immediately and could not get enough of them. Codie is definitely a strong person for what shes been and going through to come out on the other side. Amazing book!
Missing in Action is the first book in K.L. Donn’s newest series Task Force 779. The story is action packed, suspenseful, emotional, intriquing and I couldn’t put it down once I started it. The characters Ryder and Codie had an instant connection, they were both damaged from their pasts. However together they could overcome anything and come out strong. Secondary characters were loyal and fun and I liked them too. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
What an amazing new book and wonderful start to a series from KL Donn! Ryder and Codie meet at a time when they are not looking for another person and yet for both of them it’s what’s been missing from their lives and has the power to heal both of their broken pieces. These two have been through such profound, yet very different, trauma and yet they balance the other. Their story isn’t roses and sunshine, it’s hard and sometimes painful but so very worth every step. I cant wait to see what’s in store next for the men of Task Force 779 and the women who will become their center.
After a huge tragedy Codie moves from South Dakota to Charleston, West Virginia in hopes of a new start. Unfortunately her demons came with her and she has ended up a recluse who hasn’t left her house in years. After suffering his own trauma as a prisoner of war, Ryder is recovered and trying to get his life back on track. He wants to re-join his team and is gearing up to do just that when he notices his neighbour has started watching him. She never speaks, or even leaves the safety of her open front door, she just watches. When something happens he can’t ignore, Ryder makes it his mission to help Codie get her own life back, but how will he do that when he has to leave on missions and it seems someone else might be trying to do the opposite.. end her life as opposed to live it?
This was such a good story, I really enjoyed it and can’t wait for the next one. Plenty of drama, action and of course the romance aspect and I couldn’t put this down. I’ll certainly be reading more from this author and give Missing in Action 5 stars.
This one has all the feels! It will make you cry because it hurts and cry because you are happy but most of all it will leave you with a smile and a full heart. I finished reading this two days ago but I was so overwhelmed I had to put it away before I could write my review. The synopsis tells you a lot of this story but let me tell you, this is a well thought out story with great characters, all of them. I cannot wait for the next team member to find his love.
What an amazing story! This book took my words and I honestly have no words good enough for this book. KL Donn ripped my heart out and pieced it back together page by page. The fight these characters go through is so real and raw. I recommend this book to everyone but when you pick it up grab a box of tissues and tuck in. You will not be disappointed by this amazing story of life and love.
I really enjoyed reading this book.
The story was full of emotion and angst.
Have tissues within reach because you might need them.
Ryder and Codie are such an amazing and super couple.
This book held my attention.
I am not usually one to cry when reading a book but this book was the exception. I related to Codie so much as I have been through what she went through. I really felt all the emotions: sadness, heartbreak, unconditional love, forgiveness and so much more. This book is so real. It is probably my favorite book by KL Donn and I thought the Hogan Brothers would always be my favorite. I can’t put into words how much I loved this book or how much I recommend it. So get your one-click finger ready, grab your tissues and prepare to be taken on this heartbreaking but beautiful journey.
Lost in a sea of loss and depression she has hidden away from the world. Unable to function in public, unable to face people, haunted by her personal demons. Is it the inner voices or is someone really there? Am I crazy or is someone hunting me? Then he was there. He was safety. He was peace and patience. When faced with loosing him she did what she couldn’t do before. He was fighting his own hell but that’s what gives him the power to help her, he sees what others don’t. A story not only of loss but of the devastation that loss can bring. A story of recovery and rebirth. A story that shows a strength neither one thought they had. It’s also about misdiagnosis and the damage it can cause. It’s a hard read if you have ever dealt with this kind of loss. Knowing the pain and inner torment that comes from it, knowing the guilt and feelings of inadequacy it draws, doesn’t make it easier. The author warns there will be tears. There is also release, and with that comes the healing. They both had been missing in action and now they are back.
Another emotional read by KL Donn.
Two people who has been through so much. I was heartbroken for both of them. But both are strong and they where perfect for each other. Love how patience Ryder was with Codie. He sure won my heart. Love the brotherhood and how they support each other.
Can’t wait to read more of the men in this series.
Simply… Wow. Great, fabulous story of loss and strong feelings. Have to say my eyes were in tears for about half the story, the other half, I couldn’t read fast enough to see what happens. Great start to a new series and great intro to the other team members. I am absolutely at the edge of my seat. K.l. Donn does it again. Story original, great emotions highly impactful and a great read. This may be the start of a new favorite series.
Sometimes all you need is someone to fight your battles WITH you not FOR you!!
Codie has a battlefield of demons that she fears she will never conquer, Good thing Ryder is used to battlefield… in more ways than one.
K.L Donn rips out all of the emotion out of you with Missing in Action from the very beginning of the story and doesn’t stop till the very end!
Loved the camaraderie between all the characters within Task Force 779 and I can’t wait to see what is in store for them all!!
