From USA Today Bestselling author KL Donn comes Missing in Action, book 1 in her military romance series, Task Force 779.Ryder Morrison is a man of loyalty. Enter his elusive neighbor…
A woman of mystery and fear.
Codie Ray is a woman filled with pain. Afraid of life and locked away.

Ryder comes to the rescue and barges his way into her life, pushing past her barriers, causing Codie to rethink her reclusive lifestyle. Slowly being tormented with mind games from an unknown predator, she battles her better judgment and trusts Ryder to do what he does best…hunt down the perpetrator.
Their connection is instantaneous. Two broken people yearning to be loved but afraid to reach for it. Codie fears Ryder will leave when he discovers just how damaged she is. Ryder worries Codie will remain locked away in her mind, unable to break free.

Missing In Action was a story that put my emotions through the wringer! Heartbreaking, bold, passionate, caring, patient and beautiful, this romantic suspense was entirely welcome and extra special!
I absolutely ADORED Codie and Ryder. These two were amazing. And they made each other stronger and better. What Codie went through was incredibly real and tragic and sad. I cried for her like I haven’t cried for a heroine before. And Ryder…oh he made me swoon and I was very happy to see the way he helped Codie through her anxiety. This was a magnificent and powerful story that really made me feel.
Missing In Action gets a HEART WRENCHING FIVE BOLD
After a huge tragedy Codie moves from South Dakota to Charleston, West Virginia in hopes of a new start. Unfortunately her demons came with her and she has ended up a recluse who hasn’t left her house in years. After suffering his own trauma as a prisoner of war, Ryder is recovered and trying to get his life back on track. He wants to re-join his team and is gearing up to do just that when he notices his neighbour has started watching him. She never speaks, or even leaves the safety of her open front door, she just watches. When something happens he can’t ignore, Ryder makes it his mission to help Codie get her own life back, but how will he do that when he has to leave on missions and it seems someone else might be trying to do the opposite.. end her life as opposed to live it?
This was such a good story, I really enjoyed it and can’t wait for the next one. Plenty of drama, action and of course the romance aspect and I couldn’t put this down. I’ll certainly be reading more from this author and give Missing in Action 5 stars.
I freaking love KL Donn! Hands down, every book, she draws me in, sweeping me and my emotions along with the people in the book! I have literally just finished this book and……I need a minute to gather myself!
My tears were falling by the end of the prologue, a pain in my chest as I met Codie and slowly learnt her story.
Ryder is her neighbour, he becomes her light in the dark, not realising he has his own battles to fight. But he is determined not to let the dark win, does he have enough light for the both of them? My heart!! Here, take it!
I highly recommend you add this to your TBR.
Missing in Action: Task Force 779 was definitely not lacking in action. This book is fast-paced and riveting. From the Prologue I was transfixed. K. L. Donn very skillfully documents the most painful moments of 17-year-old Codie Ray’s young life. I could literally feel her hurt and I gained a deep understanding of why she lives the lifestyle she does.
Ryder Morrison is a true hero. He has overcome the most horrible of circumstances as a prisoner of war and is still willing to his life on the line for his country and those he loves. When he meets his neighbor, Codie, his life is changed forever. He recognizes that she needs him as much as he needs her.
This story is intense and action-packed. I loved the familial interaction of Ryder and his Special Forces brothers. They truly had each other’s backs in all ways. Missing In Action had so many realistic elements woven into this fictional world. The feelings and experiences are ones that are recognizable to many of us. K.L. Donn has given us the best of all possible mixes between reality and fiction with this first installment of Task Force 779.
Wow! This book was absolutely fantastic. It’s an incredibly emotional and heartbreaking story. My heart broke for Codie and everything she went through. Shutting herself off from the world. Ryder has been through his own trauma after been held as a prisoner of war. I absolutely loved both Codie and Ryder, together they balanced each other out and they were perfect for each other. Such a moving and wonderful story and I loved every single page of it.
Comment
This book had it all! Love, mystery, and definitely some nail biting parts! Love the aloha, super protective male lead who knew from the start what/who he wanted and never gave up, no matter what demons he was fighting.
Missing in Action by K.L Donn is the First book in the Task Force 779 Series. This is the story of Codie Ray and Ryder Morrison. Ryder is the brother of Hayes Morrison whose story was told in the book called ‘One Choice’ which was book two in the Hogan Brothers Series. I wanted to mention that because when that book ended I wanted to know what happen to Ryder but you don’t have to read that book to enjoy this one (although that was a great read).
Ryder was mission in action and was a captive for a while which messed with his mind and has been a struggle to heal his outside and inside. Codie is a young women who hasn’t had it easy at all and also traumatized by a vert hard loss. So she deals with a emotional issue that keeps her from having a normal life. Ryder sees something in her that he knows is similar to his personal hurt and goes forward to protect her along with trying to help her gain her freedom.
Very moving story!
Well I thought “Happily Ever After” was emotional, that book has nothing on this one. I was crying within the first chapter. Codie is left alone at the worst time in her young life. She’s living in a house, but won’t step out of it and every noise scares her. Ryder is just as damaged or even more. He was captured, left for dead and tortured for a year. He’s ready to get back to work but he meets his shy neighbour. There is an instant connection and the journey is mind blowing for each of them. It was a wonderful story and I was very moved. Thank you for this. This is my second book and I had the honour of meeting Ms. Donn at Romancing the Falls in May. I’m so glad I purchased this book and like six more. Can’t wait to read the next one.
I recommend this author for sure!
Codie and Ryder. Ryder and Codie. These two pulled at my heartstrings so much it was insane. Ryder is just getting back into the real world after some traumatizing time overseas, and Codie is battling demons within herself and needs help. The two meet on a chance and soon Ryder is helping to heal Codie and unbeknownst to him, Codie heals him too. This book has action, angst, love and some amazing secondary characters – all of which I pray get books! Overall the plot and story line were solid and it was a fun read. Per usual KL did not disappoint!
K.L.Donn has outdone herself in this book. The emotional angst is off the charts. You will start this book and won’t want to put it down. The ending is phenomenal. Trust me that will get a book hangover. Beautiful characters. No matter what life hands you; there is always a way. Highly recommend this book.
Great book! I couldn’t put it down 🙂
Seldom do I come across a book that grips me from the very first page.
This one was highly anticipated, because I met Ryder Morrison in One Choice, the story of Levi and Hayes, Ryder’s sister. Getting to know KL Donn through her words,I knew, without a doubt, that this one would be epic, but, my gosh… wow.
Dear readers, let me tell you, I made a mistake starting MIA at work. The first few pages, KL Donn’s introduction, and then the prologue… I had to put the book down because I realised that I would be doing a disservice to an author whose writing has come to mean so much to me.
I. AM. AWED.
To summarise, MIA is the story of Ryder, an elite soldier left for dead when he was captured and tortured in enemy territory. Rescued by his team after a year in captivity, he settles in Charleston where he spent several more years getting back on his feet. There, he meets Codie Ray.
Codie is battling demons brought on by the death of her son and the rejection of everyone around her. Blaming herself for her son’s death and believing herself unworthy of forgiveness, she has retreated from the outside world.
Ryder found in Codie his reason for surviving the atrocities he suffered in captivity. Codie found in Ryder her reason to live, to overcome her demons, and to forgive herself.
And I, who love everything this author writes, finally find myself smiling, for she is right—trauma, no matter the cause, may take a long time to heal, but it will.
We only have to dig deep within ourselves to find the courage to reach out and admit, in our hearts, that we need help. And if in reaching out, we are greeted with silence…it does not mean that we are alone in our struggle. It only means that we must listen hard for that tiny voice inside that is shouting “it’s okay to be alive, to go on, to live.
—Boom. Crash. Bang. When will this nightmare end?
—One, two, three seconds was all it took for my world to end.
—The wood slams. Locks click. One, two, three. Thunder claps.
Those three lines? Trauma. Realisation and acceptance. Resolve. Eventually, no matter how long it takes, peace.
KL Donn, thank you for Ryder and Codie.
I loved this book from start to finish. It had me crying and even laughing it parts. There is raw realistic appeal of the characters that spoke to me.
Ryder Morrison while on a mission as part of a mission of a special Task Force he is captured. He is was severely beaten and tortured for a year before his team found him and rescued him even though he was declared dead. It took him a year to recover from his wounds. He’s still fighting to recover from his emotional wounds.
Codie Ray has been through so much in her young life. Everyone she loved turned their backs on her. She’s living as a recluse. She never leaves her house. She does watch the runner who runs by every day at a certain time but doesn’t realize that he’s her neighbor until an unknown predator breaks into her house and it seems he’s the only one that believes her.
Two broken people recognize each other. Ryder seems to know just how to break through to Codie. How to help her. Though the struggle is very real for both them. Two steps forward, one step back.
Codie thinks she too damaged for Ryder. That once he realizes just how damaged she is he’ll leave her and she doesn’t think she’ll survive another person leaving her. He doesn’t let her give up on herself, on them. Codie proves throughout this book just how strong she is. Even when Ryder isn’t around she is fighting to get stronger.
Then you still have the unknown person still tormenting Codie that isn’t helping with her recovery. Ryder and his team are working hard to discover who it is but before they can they are sent on another mission and Ryder is captured again.
Upon his rescue Codie gives everything she has to be his side while he recovers and then is captured herself. Will Ryder be able to rescue his girl from this unknown predator before too late so he has a chance to prove to her that their two broken souls can be whole together…
This book was incredible. It had my emotions all over the place plus the intrigue was just icing on top to me.
KL Donn is a story telling of epic proportions. Missing in action is a story with action, suspense, and gut wrenching moment that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.
A must read for anyone who wants to know what really happens when two broken souls find each other.
This is the start of a great series! Codie and Ryder both have such deep pain, sadness and emotion that twisted my heart. They have a strength in each other as well. I loved their story, I loved all of the guys and am really looking forward to seeing where their stories take us.
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
What a emotional story. These two characters go through so much stuff it’s a wonder they were able to survive. Can two destroyed souls heal each other? Right from the very beginning I was drawn into Codie and Ryder’s world and I felt every emotion they did. Kl Donn did a great job drawing me into this story and making me invested in their happiness. Prepare to be blown away by this book. I wish it was longer just so I could see more of these two.
One.
This i think is Ms. Donns most Emotional Books to me, Both Ryder and Codie have suffered serious emotional and physical trama and they both have to battle and fight what is most difficult- Themselves.
Two.
Ryder is a warrior in many ways (he has the scares to prove it) His job yes but also a emotional warrior. Fighting invisible fights. It’s a long hard road he’s on and he is not pulling any punches. He’s getting better, stronger and ready to return to what he loves when he meets and is knocked for another loop by none other than Codie Ray. He’s sees her, he sees her struggle and that is the first step in Ryder and Codie.
Three.
Codie…. Codie has suffered like Ryder in ways no one should but unlike Ryder she bares no scars of her suffering. She’s trapped in her own H.e.l.l trying desperately to climb out. It’s a slow go. When something happens to send her back down the spiral ladder in comes another wounded warrior – Ryder.
Can two people who are battling invisible fights come together? Are they Stronger or will they yet again face another wounded another scar?
Last I’d like to say this book does have some triggers , how could a book this emotional, this real not?
Ryder had things done that we seldom read about in the news but does happen and those scars stay with you forever. For men and women who fight for our country, for others- I wish them a big Thank You.
Codie… That girl. I got her. As person who fights invisible illnesses daily I got her. The mind? It can be a terrible place sometimes. Codie had a serious sadly terrible thing happen. It’s one of the things we woman fear. It’s not the first or maybe the second but we do fear it. Mom’s fear it. Codie was so strong .. maybe not to everyone … Maybe not to alot but she was. The fact that everyday she got up? Dressed? Theres a strength in that, that others take for granted.
If your gonna read this have some tissue s near by , kiss your babies if you have em and then after go look in a mirror and tell your self you rock, your awesome, beautiful and strong.
You are.
Thanks Ms. Donn for this book
It sometimes is so hard to write a review after an emotional, life changing book. The way these characters are described and things happen, it is an amazing piece of work. The author gives you a situation where you can connect on a personal level with the characters. I’ve always loved KL Donn’s writing, but this takes the cake. It is hands down the best book to date.
Codie is this amazing woman who is head strong and doesn’t take crap from anyone. She makes you feel what she goes through and it is magical to watch their relationship unfold and happen on the pages. Together, they are strong and it turns out to be beautiful, with a few bumps along the way. Ryder has been through so much in his life, it is amazing how everything plays out. It just shows you can overcome your past no matter what the circumstances.
Ryder and Codi will absolutely make you believe in love and second chances. These two are the epitome of broken souls and they fit beautifully together. The lengths Ryder goes to for Codie will make any woman want him as her book boyfriend. He is mine and you can’t have him! Codie’s pain literally broke me. This topic his way to close to home and it was written so perfectly. I felt everything, the words came off the page and melded with my heart leaving me shattered only to be put back together. This is by far my favorite read by KL Donn. So much love with a touch of darkness. Two brutally broken people finding each other at that perfect moment in time. You will not regret this book. You need this book in your life!
