Former Navy SEAL turned covert agent Wes Halsted spent his days—and weeks and months—being someone else. But with his cover blown and his injuries requiring months of recuperation, he must learn how to be himself again.
Only…he’d rather save his issues for another day and get to know a stressed-out, suited-up businessman instead.
Tom Esbeck has everything under control. Meal plans, workout … plans, workout plans, project plans, five-year plans. A plan for everything and everything according to plan.
Except there’s no plan for a surprise—and shirtless—encounter with the built-for-sin spy he’d crushed on years ago.
But crushes—and spies—burn out fast.
MISSING IN ACTION is a full-length steamy contemporary romance standalone with strong ties to the Walsh Series.

The growly sexual tension will blow your mind. Like, holy cow Kate – I feel like I was holding my breath in the best way for half the book. People dream of a love like Wes and Tom
Ms. Canterbary brings us an explosive duo in Missing In Action. Wes and Tom are familiar to long time fans of KC’s earlier work, but their story is a complete standalone book.
MIA was a fabulous book. Tom and Wes have insane chemistry, dirty mouths, and a romance for the ages. The story is evenly paced, angsty in some parts, but I wouldn’t qualify it as an “angsty” book. I was sucked in instantly, and had such trouble putting it down. Then I read it again and loved it just as much. It was fun, emotional, and refreshing.
I loved seeing Tom and Wes get their romance. The two are dynamic and play off each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Tom knows what he wants, and won’t settle for less. Wes is a force to be reckoned with.
Five stars and a MUST READ from me!
Oh my word. Missing in Action is everything I’ve been waiting for in the latest of Kate Canterbury’s Walsh adjacent books. We finally get to meet Wes Halstead and Tom Esbeck and they are everything I had dreamed. These two complicated men have given me the story I had hoped to read ever since I first met either of them. Wes and Tom are perfect for each other. Plus I This book gave me all the feels. I loved seeing Will and Shannon as parents. I loved the Monday meetings and seeing the other Walsh siblings and getting glimpses into their lives. But lord above, the places Tom and Wes took me in this book we’re well worth the wait. I highly recommend it.
Gives Loves.
Wes is physically broken from spy mission turned bad.
Tom is emotionally broken from family that rejected him.
But maybe, just maybe, they can find healing.
I loved this story. I’ve been waiting on Wes’ story since I read UIA all those years ago. Kate did not disappoint.
Dirty, emotional, and full of all the characters we have come to love.
You could read this as a standalone but the other stories in the series add texture to the characters.
It’s a great way to spend a quarantined afternoon.
Such another amazing read by Kate Canterbary! Wes and Tom’s story is utter perfection with beautiful visits from previous Walsh family and Walsh adjacent friends. A beautiful story about finding love no matter the challenges.
The long awaited and much anticipated story of Wes Halstead is finally in our hot little hands. Readers and fans of Kate Canterbary have be begging for his story for years and she didn’t disappoint. Wes is everything! His relationship with Tom is steamy and the their push/pull with each other is HOT! When we’ve seen Tom in the past, you can tell he is no nonsense and gets things done. He treats his personal relationships the same way. You’d expect the SEAL to always be in control, but one look at Tom and Wes is done for. This book was everything I hoped it would be, and more! If you like M/M romance, this book will not disappoint! If you aren’t sure if you’d like a M/M romance, I still recommend it. You will fall in love these characters as much as I did.
This book can be read as a stand-alone. However, if you would like to know more about the other characters in the book and why we’ve been clamoring for this story, I highly recommend you read Kate’s Walsh Series, starting with Underneath It All (Matt and Lauren’s book. Lauren is Wes and Will’s sister). Just like this book, they are AH-MAZING!
If you have read the Walsh series you will want to read this book. Kate has given us Wes and this book is more than what I even hoped for.
About halfway through my heart was pounding wildly and I was tearing up from the pure beauty of the writing.
Incredibly romantic. Wes is a tortured soul who finds peace only with Tom.
It was exciting, very hot, sweetly loving and one of those books that I kept putting down so I could absorb what I had just read and so it would last longer.
Absolute perfection.
It’s taken me a bit to put words to this review. I don’t read a lot of M/M romance, but Kate Canterbary’s books are always an exception. And this book, wow, it was marvelous! I have crushed on Wes & his secret life since he was introduced to us in Walsh series. I’m so glad we finally have his story! What a story it is, I felt every emotion both men shared, from their heartache, their searching for themselves & their complete happiness when they were together. This is an absolutely amazing read from start to finish!!!
This was one of my most highly anticipated reads of 2020, and it’s a brilliant 5 stars. Wes and Tom y’all. WES & TOM! They brought that salivating, heart-twitching, butterfly-inducing goodness.
If you’re a fan of M/M romance, then you’ll absolutely love this story. If you’re not, I guarantee you this author will make you a believer in M/M romance. These two were the ever-loving side characters in the Walsh series books. Tom is a well-put-together professional in the Walsh family’s architecture firm. He’s a perfectionist at heart and has clear-set boundaries in place for both his professional and personal life. Wes is the “secret agent” who lapses in and out of his family’s life. With a perpetual knack for all things CIA, he can’t imagine a world where he’ll ever have to think about anything outside of the job that exists right in front of him.
Right from the beginning, both of their worlds get flipped upside down and they find themselves at different crossroads. There is so much soul-searching going on in this book. Fear of the unknown, unplanned, and unseen have both Wes and Tom taking reluctant steps in building their relationship.
The gut-clenching moments of tenderness between these two made for such a beautiful story. They’re both desperately in need of some good loving and even though they initially seem like opposites, you quickly discover that they’re more alike than you can imagine.
They’re both vulnerable in their own unique ways that make for quite a journey through love. The backstories that this author winds into their lives are brilliant because truly set the tone of this romance.
But the best part? These two are naughty. They’re dirty-talking, dual-alpha, and flirtatious AF. I love their banter as much as I love their tenderness and vulnerability. I can’t recommend this book enough.
Love this book! It was a great trip back to visit with the Walshes, and getting to know Wes and Tom better was amazing.
This book has it all. Humor with Shannon and the rest of the Walshes, as expected, but also the emotion of Wes and Tom helping each other heal and grow is so beautiful.
Tom is a vital part of the Walsh’s office, and he puts up with them all with such wit and sarcashm and sass that it’s amazing to read their dynamic.
Wes is recovering from the life in service, and he needs Tom to help get his life back.
On paper, they seem like such opposites – impeccably dressed vs. hoodies and jeans, sarcasm and sass vs. stoic, but they help each other grow through pain and fear. They first get together through sheer passion and lust, but it develops into love, and then needs to develop even further into trust, reliance and support. So beautifully written, and thoroughly satisfying.
I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for Wes Halstead’s story and man it was worth every. single. second. Missing in Action is a standalone story within Kate Canterbary’s Walsh universe. It can absolutely be read without prior knowledge of the Walsh series but I highly suggest reading them because a) they are all sorts of awesome and b) you’ll get mega spoilers in MIA. With that being said, you do NOT want to miss this phenomenal M/M story whether you are a new reader or a huge fan of the author!
Wes Halstead has always been an enigma. This Navy Seal/CIA/Covert-Op has been deep undercover for a long time. He’s sexy, strong, smart, talented and lethal. He’s a total alpha male but there’s a softer side to him that was completely unexpected. Enter Tom Esbeck, Shannon’s right-hand man. He’s perfection in a bespoke suit. He’s sexy, smart and prefers everything orderly, neat and tidy. When these two cross paths, you can feel their attraction leap off the page. It’s as if these two were made for one another. Their connection is most definitely on a deeper level. Their banter is a thing of beauty and Canterbary never fails to nail the witty dialogue. But while there is happiness and lightheartedness, there’s also heartbreak and pain. Both characters have major hurdles to overcome and it’ll most certainly tug at your heartstrings.
Kate Canterbary weaves a perfectly executed tale of love, strength, and healing. With appearances by all a whole host of beloved Canterbary characters, Missing in Action is the ultimate gift from this author. She’s given us exactly what we’ve been clamoring for and she does it exquisitely. I laughed and I cried and I didn’t want the story to end. Wes and Tom’s story is everything I hoped it would be and more. This one gets all the stars!!
We first met Wes at Matt and Lauren’s wedding and that is where the intrigue started. He stalked the event and watched the room and then disappeared with only Easter eggs dropped here and there about his covert activities. Now he’s back and he is fighting his way home.
Enter Tom, the hardworking busy body and Shannon’s right hand at the Walsh’s firm. He’s all tidy and pulled together or so it seems.
Their connection burns hot and fast like a flare, but their differences keep them together like oxygen and flame.
This story. These guys. This family! Those baby girls!! Be still my heart, and my kindle – Kate Canterbary has added another essential tale to the Walsh series. This book is a standalone, and there is a world to explore between Wes Halsted and Tom Esbeck, right now. I loved these guys together, I loved their chemistry, I felt their pain and I adored their respective truths. The Halsted family are at the forefront of straight talk, alpha walk; take an equal measure of Walsh family and you’ve got another fantastic tale here. Crisp, witty and poignant. I loved it.
