This was my first time reading this author. I couldn’t put the book down. Mr. Mofina takes the reader on a roller coaster ride of twists and turns, while weaving a story that kept me guessing as to the TRUE situation.
I will say that early on I suspected the who of the story…but a couple of times my confidence waned with new facts revealed.
One of the better books I’ve read in a long time, and I look forward to reading more from Mr. Mofina. Thank you, sir!
Rick Mofina has done it again. You think this time I have figured out the plot. But it is always a surprise. Maddie has gone missing from her room. The parents suspect someone has kidnapped her. But did Maddie run away? She has been giving her parents a lot of trouble. If Rick Mofina is the author just buy the book. You won’t be disappointed.
As good as any of Rick Mofina’s books. I always expect them to be great and never been disappointed yet.
Mr. Mofina is an excellent writer – one of my favorite authors. This non-legal thriller genre, however, is not on my top ten of his novels. Being a former SVU Prosecutor … and a parent, I find it completely unrealistic that a parent (and that uncle) would not have stormed and found the perpetrator within 2 days. It is, however, extremely well written and full of intriguing twists.
Rick Mofina is always a solid bet but he’s outdone himself in this suspense thriller about Maddie Lane, a 12-year-old girl who is either a runaway or abducted from her bedroom, and the scrutiny her parents and brother face in the aftermath. Told in two parts, the first half of the book centres around the disappearance and police investigation and no one is ruled out. Mofina does a good job of slowly revealing the secrets her mother, father, brother, uncle and cousin have been harbouring, and the guilt they feel in keeping them.
The second half of the book fast forwards to four years in the future, and no spoilers here, but this is where the book really takes off. I read the second half in one evening, bleary-eyed but determined to find out what happened before heading off to bed. Thankfully, the late night was worth it, with a satisfying ending that wraps up the storyline. Highly recommended.
Great beginning, twisted in the middle, and superb ending. I could stop there and hope you pick this book up, but I’ve got to say just a little more. Mr. Mofina truly does weave a story that will keep you riveted from start to finish. If I have a complaint at all about his writing, it would be there were places where the repetitiveness of past issues with the family and the police ‘badgering’ scenes made it hard not to skip ahead.
That being said, I still gave this a 5* review because Mr. Mofina really knows how to write! Thanks for a good few days of reading.
A well thought out and riveting story with tension, twists and turns and a plot that is creative and well-paced until the final page. I love a book where suspicion is cast upon several characters, sometimes to throw the reader off. I enjoyed noting the little hints along the way to see how accurate I was before it was revealed. Finally, I liked how the story concluded.
I enjoy all of this writer’s work. He writes great stories that don’t sound the same.
Could have been better
This author will not disappoint. One of my favorite. Love all of his books.
Excellent writing, wonderfully entertaining story.
Kept me reading and was anxious to see where the plot would take me.
Couldn’t put it down.
The book wasn’t up to his standards
Rick Mofina books are always a good read!
I enjoyed this book. It kept me interested and guessing. The only thing that kept me from giving it 5 star was a few places in the book that kept repeating how bad the family felt. It also was a little too much repeating the harassment during police interrogations.
I love all his books!!
I really enjoyed this book -I am a fan of Rick Mofina!!
For this genre of domestic mystery, this book did hold my interesting the characters and plot and keep me turning the pages.
Love this author
