I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book and wasn’t sure i was going to like it but i ended up loving it, it was so interesting and imaginative and just pulled you in.
Loved this book & all its quirky characters! The story was so well-written for both teens & adults. Completely took me out of my book-reading funk!
Reading Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Chiledren was like traveling to another world! It is the best book, (and series) that I have ever read. If you didn’t like the movie, don’t let it fool you, the book is way better!
Just finished the trilogy of Mrs. Peregrine Peculiar Children. I felt like I was saying goodbye to good friends when I finished the last paragraph. Harry Potter lovers will totally enjoy!! Sorry it’s over!
Breezed right through this and cannot wait for the movie adaptation, coming super soon!
Also, already started on the next one 😉
I definitely enjoyed this one. That secret parallel world storyline. It didn’t take me long to fly through this one and I definitely needed the second book Hollow City right away. Great book!
While a series for younger readers isn’t necessarily my area, I could not help but be drawn to the premise of this incredible novel. Ransom Riggs has developed a fascinating world in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Filled with striking vintage style photographs, this novel begins with heartbreak for sixteen-year-old Jacob. His grandfather, the only person who ever really understood him, is dead. Furthermore, it seems that his death came under strange circumstances.
Jacob journeys to an island just off of Wales in search of answers about his grandfather’s past, and what he finds is more breathtaking than he could have possibly imagined.
Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children is filled with vivid, memorable characters set against a complex and compelling backdrop. It seamlessly blends the past, present, and a certain spooky charm into one captivating coming of age novel.
This has got to be the strangest book I’ve read that I’ve actually enjoyed reading. I was initially drawn to the unique photographs. However, the story was intriguing and compelling enough that I want to read the rest of the series. It starts with Jacob finding that his grandfather wasn’t telling made up stories after all. Those peculiar children really do exist. What an adventure!
This book was intricate. I loved the idea of loops. I loved the story that the pictures told. The beginning was a little slow but it picked up. I was expecting a more creepy scary book but was pleasantly surprised by what I actually got.
I found MISS PEREGRINE’S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN by Ransom Riggs to be an extraordinarily different, yet fascinating read. Once you get a toe-hold (figure out who’s who and their relationship to each other) in this well-written story, Riggs makes it easy to follow the strange and mysterious happenings and to root for good versus evil.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is a refreshing departure from the overwhelming influx of the teen dystopian genre. Instead, the reader is treated to a world of hidden conflict blended with wonderment. The story is a clever mix of mystery, exploration, adversity, and jeopardy. Worth a read if you are a fan of the young adult genre and have grown weary of the same old tropes that have become prevalent and derivative in modern writing.
I’ve heard both good and bad reviews about this book and readers seem to have extreme opinions toward it. People who hated it have so much expectation for a scary plot, which is not what this book is about. This book is a whimsical fantasy, kinda like the Addams Family but infuse with many intense moments, characters development, and beautiful writing. I watched the movie first and fell in love, and then I started reading the book. Trust me, the book is even better! In the movie, the story got altered A LOT and it is a completely different story. If you enjoyed the movie, I would definitely recommend reading the original story.
This book is an interesting concept. It started with pictures and the story was created around them. I love the idea that all the hoax pictures aren’t really hoaxes and are real. The complexity behind loops and ymbrnes and peculiars really ties the whole story together
Excellent reading. Movie was almost as good.
AMAZING
Something totally new and a good page turner.
I read this book with a group of girls at my work as the first story for our book club. Out of the whole three who came, two of us liked it enough to start the next books. I was one of those two.
I thought this book was really good. Riggs takes the concept of time travel to a new level. The loops had me a bit confused for awhile but I finally figured it out.
I loved the main character Jacob. He has such a strong voice in the story. When he is seeking mental health treatments after a family tragedy, he still believes what he saw. He convinces his parents to allow him to visit the place where his grandfather’s stories were born.
I also really enjoyed the pictures. Some of them were so strange and to know they were real pictures that were the base for this story was really neat.
One thing I didn’t like was the relationship between Jacob and his parents. The entire book they felt like distant characters. There was no personal connection between them and Jacob. It felt like they were just letting him be. Even on the island, the father let him wander all over, all by himself.
Overall, I did enjoy this book. I probably won’t read again, but I will read the next in the series because this one ended very abruptly.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were greatly enhanced with the collection of post cards that were displayed throughout the book. After seeing the movie, I want to go back and read it again!
This book was great and can’t wait to read the next one in the series. I couldn’t put it down. I now have my 13 yr old son reading it.
I have not read yet, but would like to. I saw a comment that it is not recommended on Kindle, but better in hardcover, due to illustrations. Is that true? Thanks.
