A bittersweet reunion becomes a time for looking back and starting over in a heartwarming new novel from New York Times bestselling author Carolyn Brown.
Miss Janie is at the end of a long and full life, but she has no intention of crossing that finish line until she’s found her girls… Texas, went their separate ways, and never looked back. Apart from their foster mom, Miss Janie, they don’t have many fond memories of their hometown. Or of each other. Still, neither can forget the kind woman who opened her home and heart to two teenagers in need.
When a private investigator—who just happens to be Miss Janie’s handsome nephew—tracks them both down and tells them Miss Janie is dying, Teresa and Kayla know deep down that they’ve got to be there for her as she had been there for them.
With Teresa and Kayla together again under the same roof, old tensions may flare, but with Miss Janie’s help, they might rediscover that home is the perfect place for new beginnings.

Sarah Jane Jackson… A girl with a turbulent childhood, now a women well into advanced age. She’s praying for more time, time to find “her girls” and to bring them home before her life takes a direction she’s not fully prepared for.
Miss Janie’s Girls is a story that will break your heart, as well as leave you with the true meaning of what home and family are all about.
Along the way there is heartbreak through turmoil, anger, shame, disgrace and loss, but also the discovery of strength through love, hope and healing.
This is a touching novel that brings the reader full circle through the lives of it’s characters that struggle with the demons of the past and move toward a bittersweet future~ one of uncertainty, but hopeful for one of promise as memories of the past are put to rest, and new memories begin to shine through.
Ms. Brown also introduces us to two very unique characters that are as destructive as they are painful~ those being Cancer and Alzheimer’s. They play a major role within this story and are written with care, purpose and meaning which adds a very distinct layer to this emotional narrative, one of empathy and understanding.
Miss Janie’s Girls is a compelling read that will engage the reader with Ms. Brown’s ability to bring an impactful story line to the small-town southern setting of Birthright, Texas. A place for new beginnings, a bit of romance and the strength of community.

Miss Janie’s Girl by Carolyn Brown is a sweet and touching story about an elderly woman whose dying wish is to see her two foster daughters once more. Returning to Birthright after a ten-year absence, Teresa and Kayla go on an emotional adventure to learn to forgive and take a chance on love while they take care of Miss Janie, who, in turn, teaches them that home is the perfect place for new beginnings.
This story is amazing and emotional—all in a good way. I laugh and cry along with the girls. It reminds me on how precious life is and the importance of family, especially now that the Corvid-19 virus is affecting the families and the elderly worldwide. No reader can walk away unaffected by Miss Janie’s Alzheimer’s. Carolyn Brown is a gifted storyteller, and I am so honored to receive this ARC from her in exchange for my honest review. Believe me, this book is worth more than 5-stars. Mark your calendar for its release on July 28, 2020!
