At eight and twenty, Tildy’s first kiss had long come and gone but she’d never forgotten it nor the man who kissed her. Jasper Talbot, The Earl of Willoughby is widowed with twin daughters who are in need of a governess. He’s more than surprised when the girl he kissed eleven years ago arrives for an interview. He’s also never forgotten Matilda nor the kiss.
A lovely short story of two people finding each other after over a decade, throw six year old twins & a puppy into the mix & you’re set for an entertaining read. The characters all have depth which isn’t easy to do in a novella. The pace is very good & I spent a very pleasant relaxing afternoon engrossed in this charming read
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Miss Fortune’s First Kiss is the ninth book in the Fortunes of Fates series. Each book is a standalone book and written by a different author. I have loved every book in the series and this book was a great addition. The book was well written and held your attention all the way to the end! It was a short story but the author was able to do a wonderful job developing the characters. Matilda Fortune was a governess in between positions and headed to London with her dog, Peaches, to visit family and find a new position. The Earl of Willoughby, Jasper, was on his way to London to hire a governess for his daughters. Jasper and Matilda had meet several years ago and Jasper gave Matilda her first kiss. Now they are both back in London and feeling the same strong attraction, but Jasper needs Matilda for his daughter’s sake. Will Madame Zeta’s prediction come true? Will Jasper find his lost fortune? Will Matilda get her answer to all that she desires? I would recommend any book by this author.
Miss Fortune’s First Kiss by Annabelle Anders is book 9 in the Fortune’s of Fate series. Anders is one of those authors that is in my “must read” stack of books. She never fails to entertain me with her romances. Miss Fortune’s First Kiss is a lovely story with humor and some wonderful heat. “And when she was with him, she felt every breath of air go into her lungs and fill her body with life. Every touch reminded her she was a part of something much larger than herself. The world was a richer place, and her very reason for being suddenly had meaning.” I normally don’t like children in romances, but the hero Jasper’s daughters are perfect. I have truly enjoyed all of Ms. Anders books that I have read so far. I was gifted a copy of this book.
I love this story & the H & h were made for each other & the secondary characters were so lovable (except for Jasper’s Mother)!
Miss Fortune (Matilda aka Tilde) has a a short stopover at a country fair on her way to London in a coach & has her fortune told by Madam Zeta. Tilde, now 28 yrs. old, just laughed at the gypsy’s predictions – after all her first kiss & first love ended 11 years ago when the gentle man disappeared.
Jasper Talbot, Earl of Willoughby, widower & father to 5 year old twin girls is lost & cannot face attending all the Ton functions & getting married again. Now, he is heading to London with his daughters – they stop at a fair on their way & he has his fortune told. Could Madam Zeta be correct – could his future be hidden in his 11 year old past & the kiss he couldn’t never forget as it was like magic.
Jasper & Tilde had been brought together by fate several times – will they pursue their desires, Jasper’s daughters Eloise & Althea brought such warmth & fun to the story & Peaches (Matilda’s dog) was so sweet. I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book; all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.
An enjoyable Regency romance.
Little does Matilda believe the fortune told to her at the fairground but it is certainly strange that the first people she meets are the twin daughters of the first man to ever kiss her. The story is well written with delightful characters. Recommended read.

Jasper Talbot, the Earl of Willoughby is the last person Miss Matilda Fortune expected to run into at a small country fair. Since the death of his wife, Jasper has been lost, but a chance encounter with a brief old flame after his twin daughters insist on a stop at a traveling fair brings the past back. It’s just possible that the past is the key to his future now, according to a gypsy fortune teller at the fair.
Jasper knows this to be utter nonsense and yet he crosses paths with Tilde again at a ball in London. Then she turns out to be the very governess Jasper intends to hire for his girls. He’s not sure he can handle the temptation of having Tilde under his roof, but he knows it’s best for his daughters, so he must endure. But the longer Tilde remains with Jasper’s family, the more determined he becomes to keep her there more permanently, but with his mother quietly working for her own ends, happiness may prove out of reach.
This was a quick and charming read and I enjoyed it immensely. There was a great and dastardly villain, adorable children, and a sweet love story with some surprising insights on fate.

Sometime I do wonder if writing a novella is a kind of talent’s test.
Not everyone is able to give depth to its characters when the length of the story must be kept short.
I just adored this light and entertaining tale of second chance.
Mathilda or Tilde for short is a heroine as I love them, strong, determined and resilient when needed. She adapted herself to the dire circumstances life threw on her path, making the best with what she has, her wits and clever mind.
Jasper, The Earl of Willoughby did his duty and married the perfect blue-blood woman, it was not passion, it was not a bad marriage until bitterness gave a sour taste to their union.
Now eleven years after their first encounter and first kiss, their path meet again. And while they rekindle, feelings they thought buried deep in their soul reawaken.
They will need the help of a tiny bit of a dog named Peaches and two loving girls to see what they missed and decide for themselves which new road should they choose to follow.
A wonderful narrative which kept me awake late in the evening or early in the morning as I had not been able to get sleep until I turned the last page.
I was granted an advance copy by the author and purchased my own copy, here is my true and unbiased opinion.
