One handywoman. One single dad.One set of twins. And the wall isn’t the only thing being drilled… of twins who just moved to town.
Brantley Cooper gets the shock of his life when I show up on his doorstep to fix up his kids’ new rooms. His son is confused why ‘the pretty lady has a drill,’ and his daughter has a new obsession—me.
On paper, my job is easy. Go in, do their bedrooms, and leave.
In theory, I’m spending eight hours a day with a guarded, sexy as hell guy, and I’m staying for dinner more often than I’m eating it alone, on my couch, with Friends re-runs.
I shouldn’t be staying for dinner. I shouldn’t be helping him out with the twins. I shouldn’t be falling in love with tiny toes and dimpled cheeks.
And I most definitely should not be kissing my client.

Fun
My favorite part about this book was the dialogue between the characters. Lots of witty and irreverent banter.
This book was full of humor and fun. I enjoyed everything about this book except for the bad language. I just ignored it but I am not fond of that kind of language. It also is a little crude in some places. I still loved the plot and the way it progressed in the book.
The characters in this book grab you and don’t let go, awesome read.
In the middle of reading this! Great story
super funny with great romance
Super cute fun read with minimal angst. Kali runs a small handyman/remodeling company. Because she is young, attractive and female her profession raises a lot of eyebrows. She learned her craft by watching her father at work, after her mother died when she was five. She takes on a job for Brantley Cooper, a widower with four year old twin boy and girl. Brantley lost his fiancée and mother to his twins two and a half years ago to cancer. He has moved to this small town to start fresh with his kids. Kali never thought she wanted kids, or a man with Brantley’s baggage. Both characters are sweet, there isn’t anything major keeping them apart. Overall I really enjoyed this book, but had one quibble, the kids. They were cute, but the author wanted to make them super cute by making them mispronounce any letter l with a w. So instead of names Ellie and Eli, it’s Ewwie and Ewi. It was supposedly to make them more endearing, but it made it a bit annoying. If you can get past the twin’s speech impediment’s you will enjoy this book.
Brantley sometimes just has to be blunt, “okay, I’ll rephrase. I’m ordering pizza because there isn’t a single bone in my body that wants to effing cook, and you should tell me what pizza you like, because I’m buying you dinner.” Brantley’s luck is sometimes crap, “right,” Brantley said slowly. “Eli, grab your stuff and get in the opposite end of her bed, okay? Feet to feet like you used to do.” He nodded, and they both ran back up the stairs like a herd of baby elephants. Brantley took a deep breath and looked at me. “It’s like they don’t want me to get laid.” I really loced this book, I fell in lvoe with the twins they made this story, Brantley and Kali were just the secondary characters lol.
The main reason why this book attracted me was that it contains two motifs that I love in my reads. One was the whole woman having a male dominated profession and the other was the single parent thing. I just love both of those so I was really excited to read a book that combines them.
I enjoyed the story because it was short, quick, sweet and even funny but I can’t give it more the 3 stars because there is nothing more to it.
Yes, you read it right. While the story is enjoyable when it comes to a plot, it is nonexistence in it. No drama, no complications of conflicts, I would say it’s more like a collection of hilarious little scenes put after one another, than anything else. Because really even the romance comes out of the blue with not much of a buildup. Don’t get me wrong it was a great book especially since I only had a couple of hours to read and I wanted something light. The writing was solid and I laughed a lot during reading it. I would probably say that this is the perfect beach read, although I don’t really categorize my books like that.
The characters weren’t too complex, they were a bit simple and I would say that Kali even was immature. I loved the kids, they provided the most entertainment and I liked that they are not always the cute and perfect children but the little devils kids are.
I don’t really have much else to say about the book. But there was one thing that bothered me was the way the whole renovation was presented. So I pretty handy myself, my father is a carpenter and our house is more than a hundred years old so there is always something to fix on it. Alas I helped a lot growing up. So when a supposedly professional renovator comes in to fix 2 rooms in a relatively new house and it takes her weeks to do it, that bothers me. I don’t usually nitpick on such minor details but for Christ sake the time she spent on the two rooms she practically could have redone the whole house and some. Sorry it was just something I couldn’t go by this without mentioning it.
Miss Fix-It was my first book by Emma Hart, and I am in love!
Kali Hancock, neighborhood handy-woman loves running her own business on her own terms. She knows what she wants and is good at what she does. She is most definitely pretty happy with the path she is on . . . well, except for that dating slump where she keeps meeting the worst guys!
Brantley Cooper, hot, single dad of twins and new to town. He needs someone to fix up his children’s bedrooms, and K. Hancock came highly recommended. Of course, he wasn’t expecting the sassy female that showed up at his door who immediately started to become a more permanent fixture in his household than he ever could have expected.
Kali doesn’t do children. And, she doesn’t do her clients. But, there is something about the Cooper’s she just can’t resist. Can they find their way towards something permanent or will their relationship last only as long as the remodel does?
Miss Fix-It was an unexpected surprise for me. I was expecting a fun and comedic romp . . . which it was. But, it was so much more! I have not enjoyed children in a romance as much as I enjoyed 4 year old twins Eli and Ellie in a long time! This adorable and troublesome twosome really brought out the best in both Brantley and Kali. The daily ins and outs of two small children and and a single parent were both realistically and hilariously written. Their interactions with Kali also allowed her to grow emotionally in beautiful ways.
I loved how real Brantley’s parenting struggles were and that he relies on humor to get through the day (which is basic parenting 101!). I adored how Kali slowly found herself warming up more and more to the young twins and their father without even realizing it’s happening. Kali and Brantley were a slow, sizzling build up that is based on so much more than just chemistry and it was simply fabulous to read and experience. Kali’s relationship with her step-mother was also an unexpected gem in this book.
Do yourselves a favor and one click this book. See if Kali can fix more than just a few run-down bedrooms and help to make a house a real home. This book really has it all! Romance, humor, sass, sweetness, sizzle and a wonderful HEA that you won’t want to miss. 5 stars!
He took a deep breath. “And, I like you, Kali. I like you a lot.” … “I know it’s hard and it’s complicated, but I wanted to make that clear to you.” He paused, then scratched at his jaw. “The last thing I expected when I moved here was to find someone like you.”
I generally love everything about single dad romances. To me, there’s nothing more attractive than a man who is taking care of his kiddos, especially if those kids are adorable, quirky, sassy, independent twins.
When I began this story, I wasn’t sure how much I was going to love it. Then I met the twins, and their dad (*fans self*), and I just knew this story was going to be great.
I feel like the more reviews I write, the more difficult it gets not to tell you how I feel without giving any spoilers. This story wasn’t what I expected, but … it also kind of was. Let me explain:
Kali is a woman, working in a man’s field, and is feeling the prejudice that comes along with it. Instead of allowing it to hurt her, she embraces it and lives for the shock of that first moment when she meets a new client. When she shows up to begin work on the twins’ rooms, she immediately is surrounded by a small family of … well, craziness. These twins are a HANDFUL! Full of enthusiasm and mischief, they always seem to be showing up as Kali is working and somehow worming their way into her heart.
Unfortunately, their father begins to do the same. Brantley is a man who has recently moved to Kali’s small town, but nobody really knows why (and in a town like this, everyone knows EVERYTHING!). Brantley decides it should be his daily responsibility to make fun of Kali in some way. This teasing leads to an awkward friendship, which leads to … well, you’ll see
I have to say, though, it’s the twins that make this story. I fell head over heels for little Eli the minute I met him. I just knew he was going to be one of my favorite book kids EVER. His sister Ellie, though … well, she is adorable, but man was she hard to love! That is, until you see her child-like heart:
“Daddy was sad. Den we moved here.” She dropped her eyes and played with the screws in her hand. “Den you came. And now Daddy is happy. And, and, sometimes when I’m sad, Daddy kisses me and den I’m happy again. So, I fort maybe you kissed Daddy and made him happy again.”
There it was. The moment I was absolutely and completely done. This story gave me a little bit of all the wonderful parts of a love story: I laughed, my heart broke a little, I felt some sadness, but overall I felt the underlying hope that someone’s life was about to be filled with all kinds of happy
Emma Hart gives sexism the finger as she sets about breaking down stereotypes and inspiring women. Miss Fix It proves you don’t have be male to wear the pants. Kali is a woman after my own heart. She speaks her mind, does what she wants and is not afraid to knock down any obstacle that stands in the way of her dreams. Her career is an important part of who she is and she is good at what she does. Brantley is blunt to a fault and alpha to a T, but he loves hard and doesn’t shy away from difficult. The fact that he is a single dad adds to his appeal. Ms. Hart is quickly making her presence known as a force to be reckoned with. She’s not afraid to tackle hot button topics with humor, heart and confidence.
