Misfortune of Vision by Christy Nicholas is the fourth book in the Druid’s Brooch series. I like this series because the books can be read in any order and still enjoyed. The story has a continuing theme in a 12th-century Irish setting. I really enjoyed the characters in this story. Orlagh is a seer who has set out on a mission of her own. She is trying to find an heir for her Druid’s brooch.
This story is well written and the story, characters, and setting drew me in and I did not want to put the book down. I really look forward to reading more in this series and going on more explorations with the characters over the centuries.
Misfortune of Vision: Druid’s Brooch Series: #4 By Christy Nicholas. Want a story that takes you away from everyday life? Then I highly recommend this book and the others in this series. The author does a wonderful job of writing a story that is intriguing and adventurous. With a character like Orlagh who’s a joy to follow I was completely hooked from page one. I’d have to say this might have been my favorite book so far but don’t go telling the others! It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. It’s a page turner that had me up well past sleeping time. I’m giving this story a five star review and highly recommend it.

Misfortune of Vision: Druid’s Brooch Series Book 4 By Christy Nicholas is the fourth Book in the Druid’s Brooch Series and a book that is hard to put down once you start reading. I have truly enjoyed this series and recommend reading the first three books although its not necessary to read them in order.Get ready to be taken on a journey of finding an heir for her magic brooch..Find out what happens next, I highly recommend this action packed page turner. I look forward to reading more from this Author.
Nicholas continues to enrapture her readers with another masterful piece of fiction. From beginning to end I felt like I was part of the story and anticipated that the characters would jump off the pages at any moment. I have thoroughly enjoyed this entire series. Wonderful, wonderful characters and storyline. What a ride!
When a man can’t cope, get you a woman who can. Orlaugh has been a faithful Seer to her cousin, the chief, for almost 50 years but for some reason he doesn’t hold too much stock in the Visions. A new bishop sees Orlaugh as a threat to himself and Christianity, and wants her dead on principle. Bishop Malachi insults her and outright says to kill her within seconds of meeting her. This dude got my blood boiling and I wanted to smack him. Orlaugh, however, knows what storm is coming and will not let men’s dismissal stop her from trying to prevent to war and bloodshed she fears is imminent.
I love Orlaugh so much. She’s witty, wise, and doesn’t give a good gosh darn. I want to be her when I’m old. This whole series is fantastic and I recommend them to anyone who likes historical fiction.
This is my favorite in the series yet. This book is creative, well written, engaging and pulled me in from the first page. The characters bring the story to life and kept me turning pages. I enjoyed watching them grow throughout the story. Orlagh takes you on a journey or quest of finding an heir for her magic brooch. It has magic, page turning action and you have to find out if she succeeds but it is worth the read. I highly recommend this book.
Loved reading this book! One of the magical things about this series is the fact that we go back in time with each new book. I love the way the continuity centres around the fae brooch and what each earlier generation has to go through in order to find an heir to the magic. Stuffed full of history and folklore, this is a really charming, page-turning read and not too heavy for anybody’s taste either. I love the variety of characters that we meet in each book and that they are not all fortunate, nor instant heroes, and this is definitely the same in this instalment. Poor Declan is all I can say. Orlagh’s personality shines through the pages, just as it does in the next book in the series. I am so intrigued to learn how this family got the brooch. Top read! I’d recommend it to anyone, no matter what genre you’re into.
Misfortune of Vision (Druid Brooch Series #4) by Christy Nicholas is probably my favourite book of the Druid Brooch series. That’s saying a lot given that I love every book in the series. This book is a page-turner and I have to admit I stayed up well past midnight to finish it.
As usual, the author’s characters are beautifully written and multidimensional. I loved Orlagh and Nicholas does a fantastic job of developing her as an older woman without getting bogged down in generalizations. This isn’t easy to do – but Orlagh is vibrant, witty, courageous, hard-headed, and still a girl at heart. Nicholas did the same fantastic job on Orlagh’s grandson, Declan by creating a complex character with personal struggles.
Because the books are standalone, they can easily be read out of order. However, they do have a thread running through them as the brooch is handed off to a family member from generation to generation.
As I’ve said in other reviews of her work, Nicholas’s writing is effortless, breathing life into the characters, the settings, and the time period. I get lost in the vivid descriptions and well-crafted dialogue.
Like Nicolas’s other books, Misfortune of Vision is extremely well-written and well-edited. Christy Nicholas is a fantastic writer and an amazing story-teller!
This is such an enjoyable, fast-paced story. There is so much to like about this book, there’s adventure, romance, a little Celtic mythology, and a blend of history. Really, something for everyone. I think this book can be read as a stand alone, though might be best enjoyed reading the series in order. I’m looking forward to reading what happens next.
