Well, I don’t think this author can put a foot wrong with this series. Now that I am all the books in, the whole structure of this epic story really shows in all its glory and I feel as though I’ve got one foot in the past and one foot in the future. Etain is such a great character. I love her fortitude and the way that she is both Christian and pagan. It also touches upon a woman’s dependence on having a husband to protect her and help her lay permanent claim to her possessions – something which is historically correct, – and it’s this mix of fantasy and history, that really makes these books and characters shine. If you like historical novels, anything faery, Arthurian, or unpredictable twists, you will love this. Please begin with book 1, though. The journey back in time will be so much richer if you do!

Misfortune of Time : Druid’s Brooch #6 by Christy Nicholas is the sixth book in the Druids Brooch Series. This can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading the other books in this series as well. This isnt my first Book by this author and most definitely won’t be my last. Once I started reading I couldn’t put it down. There are a few twists and turns that left me wondering what was going to happen next..I love historical fantasy as well as historical fiction. This story is about Etain and she has power that she can’t let anyone know she has it. In order to protect her grandson she eventually leaves her abusive husband. This takes place in 11th Century Ireland. Want to find out what happens?I highly recommend reading not just this Book but the whole series..I can’t wait to read more from this author.

This is the sixth story in the Druid’s Brooch series. It can be read by itself. I had a hard time fully getting into this book. The main character experiences a lot of domestic violence. She is trying to survive in a world that could never understand her. I did love the character Odhar. He loved Étaín, and he really valued her. I loved reading about this relationship.
Misfortune of Time by Christy Nicholas is book 6 in the Druids Brooch series. Overall I enjoyed the book and Christys writing style. Etain is a fascinating and strong character. She goes through a lot in this novel and I super dislike her husband. I really feel like the author did a great job and was really pleased with this book. There are some stuff that may trigger some. 4 star rating
Misfortune of Time (Druid’s Brooch #6) by Christy Nicholas was everything I never knew I needed in a historical magical fantasy.
The 6th book in the Druid’s Brooch series don’t be deterred, yes they are all connected but feature a different powerful woman. So no worries about having to start at the first book, you can read these out of order.
What a ride, there was so much good about this story that’s going to be hard to express. To keep this review short and simple I’m going to give you my highlights. But first lets touch on the writing.
What can I say, I love the writing style is author uses and I love how you’re transported back in time. The rich and lush detail is alluring and makes you feel like you’re there, 12th century, walking alone side our MC. That level of detail was a true highlight for me and, really made this drama filled story, shine.
Our MC, I don’t want to say too much but she is strong, fierce and determined. I had nothing but support and good feels for her. Having to leave, not being able to settle, on the run, I could almost feel her fatigue and frustration. She’s a beautiful crafted character, and has set a new kind of bar.
The last thing I’m going to touch on is the plot. Normally I don’t say too much about a stories put, only slighly saying what I liked; and nothing is going to change on that front… you probably thought I was going to give something away.. Haha.. nope. Just know that the plot is something special, it’s complex and for me, I felt like it was so solid that as the story drew to a close I felt also clam. That is the you way to close out a book!
If you haven’t guessed I highly recommend you gets you hands on this book, this series. It’s a magical ride that will have you feeling pride, and straight from the connection you will form with the MC.
Happy Reading

Misfortune of Time is the 6th book in the Druid’s Brooch Series. It’s the first book I’ve read in the series and the common thread in all of the books appears to be (obviously) the Druid’s Brooch. It is my opinion that it can read as a stand-alone.
When is time a “misfortune”. It is when it is not in favor of things going your way. The experiences that the main character goes through are things that one would want to change time so as to avoid. This is an undesirable situation due to extenuating circumstances.
The author writes in a very detailed and descriptive way. The way this tale is told is gripping and fluid. It brings questions to the mind about time. If you could turn back time , would you? What would you change? How would you protect the one you love?
This is one of those stories that creates thoughts outside of the book as you read along.

4 out of 5 stars
Misfortune of Time is the 6th book in Christy Nicholas’ Druid’s Brooch series and the second book I’ve read by this author. I have enjoyed what I’ve read from this series mainly because Christy Nicholas’ writing style is so filled with description and detail I feel as though I am transported within the pages of the story. Etain is a character I truly enjoyed reading about as the story progressed as well as her progression through what life continually threw at her, none of which being a walk in the park. Despite reading these books out of order I definitely enjoyed Misfortune of Time without feeling loss. I will likely start this series over from the beginning however because I do love a good series to keep me busy.
Misfortune of time by Christy Nicholas is the sixth book in the Druids Brooch series and follows the life of Etain and her struggles through life.
Etain is a pagan and holds a great secret in her life, scare that if it is realised she would be in danger. The Druid’s brooch is the greatest treasure which is literally keeping her alive as Etain is 150 years old and with the brooches magic has keep her moving on in time.
Eatin’s husband, the priest is an evil, abusive man who she is staying with for the sake of someone else, but something happens that she has to flee her home, but where does she go? Who is chasing her? Does she over come this? You will have to read the story to find out.
This is not my first book I have read within this series and the characters where rich and their stories weaved in an out of the book seamlessly. I love when an author uses the location of the book as another character and you can not go wrong with Ireland as a great character/ backdrop to this wonderful series. I also think the author was brave to use the abusive angle but the writing was wonderful and I was ready to jump into the book and recuse Etain from the situation she found herself in.
I would definitely recommend this series and book to anyone who enjoy a great story, brilliant backdrop and intense drama.
Misfortune of Time by Christy Nicholas is the sixth book in her Druids Brooch series. This is a book I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy when I started reading however I am pleased to say I was wrong entirely. This book draws you straight in to the story, never letting go right to the end.
A book about old magic and God’s we follow the story of Etain. She has found herself in a precarious situation, having to hide her true self from her husband. As much as she fears for herself and being found out she fears more for the life of her Grandson. She will do everything she has to in order to keep him safe.
However when the situation changes Etain finds herself having to entrust his protection to those she trusts in order to save her own life.
This book weaves a fantastical tale set in the old world of 11th century England. Drawing on everything from that very era this book really makes it feel like you are right there, experiencing everything right alongside Etain. The authors goes into such detail that it would be hard not to feel involved in this journey. I had not read any of the books previous to this but I will certainly be going back to read them all now.
I love reading books that have a magical feel to them. This particular book – Misfortune of Time by Christy Nicholas has a touch of paranormal, action, adventure and even romance. But what I love the most is that it’ a historical fantasy book.
I thoroughly enjoyed the author’s ability to create a believable world, filled with so much magic. I loved that the she was able to infuse so much character into the book and storyline. She did a good job at developing the characters and making them believable as well. If there is anything that I enjoy, is being able to get lost within the pages of a book, feeling different emotions and experiencing them all. I definitely considered this a 4 Star Book!
Misfortune of Time by Christy Nicholas is a must read. Christy Nicholas is a great storyteller. Her characters are so in depth that you feel an instant relationship with them. In this book, I could relate to Etain and could see us as sisters. She feels the need to hide part of herself (pagan magic) to her husband (Christian priest). This usually does not work and there is a level of abuse that goes along with the part you are hiding. I felt the pain that Etain within my soul as well. There are roller coaster rides that will make you happy, frustrated, and anger. Etain has to make some big decisions that ultimately lead her to shun out and hurt everyone around her. I cannot wait to see what is next in the series.
This is actually the sixth installment of the Druid’s Broach series from Christy Nicholas. I have not had the pleasure of reading her work prior to this, so this was my first in multiple ways. I found the writing engaging and well developed. So much so, that I didn’t feel as if I was reading a book that was sixth in a series. Now that I have read and enjoyed this one I may be going back to read those others now.
This isn’t my normal go to for a genera, but I was happy I branched out. This about the beautiful Etain. Currently she is living in the eleventh century and has the abilities and more of a thirty year old woman. In reality she is actually over one hundred years old. She is a complex character and goes through some serious crap in this novel. I swear I haven’t disliked a character as much I did her husband, Airtre. It made me appreciate her strength as a woman though, and had a place in the novel. Warning though, this could be a bit trigger-happy for some. Her story about how she overcomes things and comes out on top is one that is compassionate, heartfelt, and frankly magical in and of itself. Separate of the other magical things that take place in the book as well.
Overall, this was a good four star read for me that has be wanting to see what else the other novels in the series has to offer.
Misfortune of Time: Druid’s Brooch Series, #6 by Christy Nicholas
4 stars
This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. I think my favorite part was the journey through Ireland, somewhere I dream of visiting someday.
This author had a way of drawing me in and keeping me on the edge of my seat all the way through with the subtle twists and turns placed throughout the story.
This is the 6th in this series and can absolutely be read as a standalone but Im sure if you do you will end up like me wanting to go back and read the books before this one. She dealt with some tough situations in this story and I was completely impressed with how well she handled the writing of those. The characters were amazing and I look forward to reading much more from this author.
Misfortune of Time: Druid’s Brooch Series, #6 by Christy Nicholas is a historical fantasy story.Whilst it can be read as a standalone, I suggest reading the others to understand the characters and the world they live in. The story started off a little slow but quickly picked up pace as the suspense kicked in. Christy’s writing takes you back in time to a beautiful time and place that you can imagine. But it is a cruel existence for our main character, where she lives with abuse and her decision to survive. Her rich and vibrant words have you hanging on each and every word and keeps the pages turning and enjoying the magical world she has created.
Misfortune Of Time ( A Druids Brooch) by Christy Nicholas is another fantastic book in a series. Again the author captivates you and draws you in to the characters stories. Even though the world in the story is so far away from the world we live, you feel as though you can relate still.
Etain has magic, which she has had for many years, to the point she is over a hundred years old but part of the beauty of the magic is to be able to disguise her age. Etain is currently married Airtre, a man of the church. Their relationship is definitely what you could call turbulent and Airtre has been known to abuse Etain in the most horrible of ways. With a series of unfortunate events Etain gets to escape the world she has known for some time to a world where she eventually feels protected. However there comes a time where she needs to leave this protection on a journey to pass on her legacy, this is leads to a whole other journey.
Definitely worth a read!!
A great read about anxiety. Living in 1055, Etain must hide her magic as Christianity begins to become popular. When her husband flips in rage, she runs in fear but her decision affects everyone she loves. When the past resurfaces whilst she is on the run, will she flee in fear once more or stay and face the consequences?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns that I just couldn’t put down. Well developed characters like Etain trying to make it through each day and still be brave. The sense of danger and always looking over your shoulder was perfectly written and added emotive to her character.
I adored the visual detail throughout the novel especially in the city with its architecture and stone arches for a sense of grandeur. The city was beautifully written like you stepped back in time and were actually there with traders and builders and markets
The sense of nature was perfectly written in colours and scents and sounds as if you were there refreshing you from the city scenes and serving as a comfort or the simple beauty of the moon as a constant to mark time. The respect to nature and the history and mythology of Ireland was a splendid addition to add soemthing sacred to the magic and a sense of history.
The sense of magic and the brooch was masterfully done spellbinding in each instant and contrasted wonderfully with the religion. I also loved the contrasts between old and new and their struggle to work in harmony. Overall, a brillaint read and I would give it five stars.

Misfortune of Time is the sixth book in the Druid’s Brooch Series by Christy Nicholas. This is a historical fantasy- with paranormal elements, drama, adventure, action, romance, magic, and much, much more. I really love all the attention to detail and the vividly descriptive storytelling that Ms. Nicholas excels at- it brings her stories to life and makes them very realistic, believable, and relatable. As with the other books in this series that I have read, this is really well written, very polished, and thoroughly researched. The story is fascinating- and really captured my attention right from the first few pages. The character/s are complex, fully realised individuals who were cleverly crafted- with interesting and likeable or detestable natures- as the author is easily able to sway you one way or another.
As you can probably tell, I haven’t read the book in this series in sequence- instead picking them by random. So, even though this is the sixth book in the series, you really can read it as a standalone- as all the books I have read in this series appear to be standalone stories, with the ‘Druids Brooch’ being the connecting element. Having said that though, if you love a great fantasy with lots of historical elements, then you would most definitely enjoy the other books in this series as well- and you would be missing out by not reading them.
In this book we meet Etain, who lives in Ireland in the 11th century, she’s a pagan who has to keep this secret, especially from her devoutly religious husband, who also happens to be a priest. There is much more to Etain than she appears- for a start she is 150 years old and is able to harness the magic of her Druids Brooch to remain ageless, but is also be able to change her appearance when necessary. Her husband is an abusive pig, but she remains in her situation in order to look out for a loved one. But, a situation occurs which threatens her life and Etain has no choice but to flee- and I felt that it was at this point in the book where this story really took off…….. Where does she go? What does she discover? And when the past comes back to haunt her, will she make the right decision? All this and much more can be discovered between the covers of this spellbinding story!
The best of the bunch, so far!
Thank you, Ms. Nicholas!
Misfortune of Time: Druids Brooch Series Book 6
By Christy Nicholas
Misfortune of Time is the sixth book in the Druids Brooch series. This story is set in Ireland in the 11th century. While it is the sixth book in the series it can be easily read as a standalone. Etain has the gift of being able to use her magic in order to make herself appear to be older than she is. This is because of the magic in a brooch she was given by to her by another gifted being. Etain has possibly the worst husband ever, he thinks nothing of treating her terribly by means of physical abuse, he will abuse her when ever he has the chance to. To put things into focus Etain is a Pegan and her husband is a Christian priest, and because of this she has to hide so much from him. Etain is nurturing while her husband is anything but. Things are changing for Etain and she leaves her husband in order that she can protect her grandson. I did enjoy this book and would say its well worth the read.
Misfortune of Time: Book 6 in the Druid’s Brooch Series by Christy Nicholas

This is a new genre of books to me and I am very intrigued. We are introduced to a woman by the name of Etain, who, being Pagan, must hide many things from her Christian priest husband Airtre. Etain at her very core, is strong and nurturing. She is driving to protect those she loves from her overbearing and abusive husband. The interaction between Etain and Airtre is both passive and violent. This book gives gave me the opportunity to ponder the thought that if I had the opportunity to go back and change the path of lifetimes, would I? Would I change who I know I am for the hope of someone who I might be? This author delves you into a world where time is both relevant and irrelevant. These characters are amazing. Etain is a wonder woman in her own amazing way and I am in awe of her.
Misfortune of Time: Druid’s Brooch Series, #6
By Christy Nicholas this book while not my normal like reading really got my attention from page one. It’s an interesting and well thought out story. I’ve read other books in this series but can safely say they can be read as a standalone without confusion. The author took great care to make sure details in this story were well written and thought out. Étaín character is one I just could read about for hours, she has a story to tell you if you’re ready to hear it for sure. The author writes with so much information and emotion you can’t help but be pulled into the world shes created. I’m incredibly glad I not only found these books but gave them a try. I’m giving this book a five star review and highly recommend it to everyone.
