I give Misfortune of Time: Druid’s Brooch Series, #6 by Christy Nicholas, 5 stars.
This is the story of Étaín and her life in 11th century Ireland. She practices the old ways, but she must hide them from everyone, especially her controlling husband. Her life was not always this way, but she does what she must to protect her grandson. Her husband was not always like this, but this is the life she now leads. When her husband becomes out of control, Étaín has no choice but to flee. Will she find peace again and love again? Will she ever be accepted?
This is a story of the magic and mystery of 11th century England. It is also a story of hate and turmoil as beliefs in Ireland are changing. Étaín must endure some truly horrible things, but she is a strong woman. This author is an incredible storyteller and I literally could not put this book down. While some of the things Étaín has to endure are a bit hard to read at times, I kept reading to see what she does. She is at heart a survivor and many can relate to this. Besides the character, the story itself is fantastic. Based on much fact, it is so believable and pulls you right in. I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait to read more from this author.
I highly recommend this book to all adults who love fantasy, Ireland, and/or strong female characters.

4 Stars!!!!
I have a bad habit of reading out of order but I am very happy to be able to be able to follow the story line quite well. This is the sixth book in the series and even though it is the first one I have read I was quite drawn into the book and not feeling out of sorts.
I really was drawn to Etain. The fact that she had been through so much and that it was what really built her character and who she was really made the book a very gripping read. I found myself on tenterhooks as she dealt with her situation and the drama that unfolds in the book. I also found it quite a unique story line of the brooch and the fact that she had lived many lifetimes. I also found the time frame of the book to be quite interesting just on the cusp of religion becoming more popular than paganism. This book had some very interesting twists to it and I really do look forward to reading more of this series and by this author.
I cannot say enough about this author and series. I absolutely love the rich detail this book gives its readers. Multi-faceted and deep, this book can be read as a stand-alone and appreciated on its own. However as this is not my first book from this series, I think the reader will better appreciate the universe if reading these in the order presented. Beautiful detail. Plot pacing and character development were well thought out. Just a wonderful continuation in the series.
Misfortune of TIme by Christy Nicholas is the sixth book in the Druid’s Brooch series. This can be read and enjoyed as a standalone book. I suggest reading the others on this series because they are also good reads. The story is a fantasy which involves the character Etain. She has a power that she cannot let anyone know she posses. I like how strong her character is. I really enjoyed the incredible detail the author provided in this story. I always love reading about Ireland especially when an author can make me feel like I’m there. There were awesome characters in this story. The author will draw you in to this magical world of fantasy as soon as you start reading. I highly recommend this book and the others in this series.
Misfortune of TIme by Christy Nicholas is the sixth book in the Druid’s Brooch series. This can be read and enjoyed as a standalone book. The story is a historical fantasy which involves the character Etain. She has a power that she cannot let anyone know about. She eventually leaves her abusive husband to protect her grandson. The story caught my attention because I love historical fiction. This is 11th century Ireland and is very well described. The description allowed me to delve into the story and get swept away. I will be looking for more of the books in the series to find myself lost again.

This book really was a great read. I could honestly tell that the author had put so much research into making sure that everything was right – that really came across for me in her writing. It didn’t take me long to be completely swept in the fantasy and magic of everything that was going on. I thought that all of the characters were really well planned and developed well over the story – the nice and the not so nice ones. The authors beautiful descriptive language allowed me as the reader to fully envisage what I was reading. There were some sensitive issues that happened in the book but the author did write about them well. There were some good twists and turns in the story which had me flipping the pages fast trying to find out what was going to happen next.
This is the second book that I have read in this series and I enjoyed it just as much as the first, it can be read as a standalone but I would highly recommend reading the other books in the series as well. I am looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.

The story Misfortune of Time: Druid’s Brooch Series, #6 by Christy Nicholas is a historical fantasy book. I truly enjoyed reading this story. It draws you in from the very beginning and I found myself turning pages to find out what happens next. It is a book that will have you believing in magic, being introduced to older gods as well as other magical creatures and beings. It is a story of one woman’s strength and courage. I loved reading about the character of Etain. She is a woman that has had to hide who she truly is for a long time. She is a character that I had a lot of empathy for as she endures so much to make sure that the one person she loves is safe. She is compassionate and kind to others. Read this book to find out how her story unfolds. There are many other characters that I enjoyed reading about in this book and how they interact with Etain. There are also characters that are controlling, close-minded, and abusive. They have their own agenda. What sort of danger do they pose for Etain and the ones that she loves? The story is very detailed so that when I read about the different places that are visited I felt like I was right there with the characters. This is a well-written book that I would highly recommend. I have now read two books in this series and as I have enjoyed them so much I look forward to reading the others.
This is the sixth book in this series and they can be read as a stand alone. This is not my first book by this author, I enjoy how she is able to pull me into her magical journey. This installment is a journey about being able to controlling time. I enjoyed the characters as well as the journey through Ireland. The twists and turns left me wanting to see what would happen. I highly suggest this book.
