I’m a Stacy Reid fan and Misadventures with the Duke did not disappoint. Pippa Cavanaugh, a female columnist who deals in gossip but social change targets the duke, Christopher Worth, who she believes disgraced her best friend. A duke that she’s drawn to herself. This is a battle of wits and wills between two strong, interesting and relatable characters that I couldn’t get enough of. Their romance was like a dance, and it was beautiful to read. And the ending. Sigh. Loved it!
This is the first book I have read of Ms Reid and found it very enjoyable. I only read historical romances so they all have romance but this one outdid them all. It was soooo romantic, I loved it. Ms Reid obviously has a very romantic soul to be able to capture the feelings and interaction between this couple. I truly enjoy the humour, suspense and joy she was able to share. It was different from the usual Ton stories. It kept me turning the page and a smile on my face. It was a quick read that I read in one day because I found it hard to put down. I will be reading many more of hers. There was a sex scene and as usual this reviewer skipped it but it did not affect my enjoyment of the book. I received as a gift but am very happy to review.
Stacy Reid does it again! Misadventures with the Duke is book 4 in the Forever Yours series. Stacy has such an amazing way of sucking you in from the 1st page to the very last page. Her characters are wonderful and the story very original. Stacy never disappoints. Though this book is in a series it can be read as a standalone. This story has scandal, hurt, misunderstandings, defending a friend, a father’s mistress, kindness, cruelty, abandonment, a scandal column, secret identities and love at first sight. I highly recommend you read this story, you won’t be disappointed.
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Pippa and Christopher. This was such a fun book. Pippa has some sas and she is not a quitter. Lady W was an exciting twist to the story. The connection between the two was breathtaking. You will need to set aside enough time to read this all the way through because you will not want to put it down.
Misadventures with the Duke is book Four in the Forever Yours Series. This is the story of Christopher Worth, the Duke of Carlyle and Pippa Cavanaugh.
Pippa who is a caring person helping her family and friends always which has lead to someone action on her part to help. Which is what lead her to her interactions with Christopher when he goes to clear his name that is being brought up in the paper. What Christopher didn’t expect are the feelings that Pippa brings out in him. Christopher starts to see her for the caring strong person that she is. Pippa also starts to figure that Christopher isn’t what she been lead to think and that he is more than she thought. Both really wanted true love which is hard sometimes in their lifestyles period but in each other they started to see what they always wanted.
I would highly recommend this book….Loved it!!
Christopher Worth, Duke of Carlyle, is the epitome of a dutiful, proper gentleman of the Ton. Thanks to her father and a cad masquerading as a suitor, Pippa Cavanaugh is all but an outcast from Society. They certainly do not belong together. Christopher knows what he wants in his wife and duchess and what he does not. Is it possible Pippa is the one he has been waiting for? Pippa also knows what she wants, if she marries. She wants someone she can love and trust. Is it possible Christopher is the one she has been looking for?
Stacy Reid has written an emotional and captivating story. This romance unfolds beautifully from friendship to love. The story has hurt, betrayal, distrust, misunderstanding, jealous friends, meddling families, forgiveness, and love. The main characters are quite engaging. I like that the reader learns about them as they learn about each other (as did anyone who reads the gossip columns). I enjoyed and highly recommend Misadventures With the Duke.
London 1839 What’s not to like about an upstanding Duke who watches everything he does publicly to have no hint of scandal to his family name? What is that saying? Sometimes the well runs deep or is it you cannot judge a Duke by his seemingly pristine cover? Having come into his title four years ago, Christopher is truly a gentleman, honorable and looks for a woman he can love and marry her. (What? How can that be?) In a terrible moment for Pippa, he witnesses her humiliation by a man at a ball, but she pulled at something in him by how she behaved rationally and handled herself well.
Pippa is determined to not just marry a man to be secure and with her writing skills, lands a job as a gossip columnist about the ton. One thing leads to another and from the word of her dear friend, she writes a column about Christoper that is revealing him as a rogue. Not good must I say! Can the two ever come together and can he prove his good name?
With her usual incredible style, Stacy Reid writes another unforgettable romance that pulls out all the stops and makes you fall in love with the hero and cheer on the heroine!!! A dance of emotions, humor, heat pounding sensuality and banter back and forth bring this engaging story to a conclusion you will not want to miss!!! Sigh…. Love this series, but this can be read as a standalone!
What an enjoyable and awesome read it was, even short, Stacy Reid was able to give depth to her characters.
Philippa Cavanaugh was ruined by her father’s boldness, since she is considered bad blood for sins she didn’t committed. A suitor’s betrayal was the undoing of her remaining trust in the men’s characters. So when her friend told her of her ruination by the Duke Of Carlyle, she decided to invest this, intending to reveal the debauched he is to London society. She just not expected to encounter the one man who witnessed the shameful proposal of her rakish beau. And the more she get to know him, the more his portrait is opposite to the one made by her friend.
She discovers a man who likes his privacy but is also a great benefactor to the cause of the vulnerable and poorest. But she can’t comprehend what he seeks from her.
Christopher Worth has loved once but it had hurt his family, since he kept his affairs secret, even more as he shares special tastes once the bedroom’s doors closed. Never he will shame his name, it is not done in his family. Until he meets a witty woman whose curses stir needs he keeps secret. Alas she is the inverse of whom he should look for as his future duchess, but she awakes emotions and frill he thought asleep. So he must decide if he will woo her or forget her, but also if she can find in her to trust him.
For a short story, it was delightful and witty, the last two chapters before the epilogue had me on edge, they were awesomely done.
A big fat 5 stars!
Another lovely read from Ms. Reid with truly wonderful characters.
This was simply a wonderful read! A well written, entertaining storyline serves as the perfect backdrop for these incredibly likable characters. I loved that Pippa and Christopher were both complex characters, with cool heads and kind hearts. It is rare to find a book where both characters are portrayed in such a manner and I found it refreshing. In historical romances the heroine is often either spoiled, ditzy, a husband hunter or anti-marriage, I found Pippa refreshing. She was a smart, talented woman with a plan. As for Christopher, I felt he was quite unique also. He was not brooding or a rakehell, he was just a wonderful, thoughtful man, with firm dreams an desires about the life he wanted. In the end I thought this was a truly exceptional historical romance.
I cannot say enough about how much I love Ms. Reid’s writing and storytelling. She interjects such emotion into her stories. Pippa and Christopher’s slow burn romance envelopes you into their emotions. There is scandal sheet shenanigans, hurt, betrayal, redemption, and love in their story. The letters in the newspaper really tear at your heart (yes, get out the tissues). Loved this book.
I received a complimentary copy from the author.
This is another great book by Stacy Reid. Misadventures with the Duke is about Christopher and Pippa and their love story. Christopher is a Duke who likes to be know as respectable with no scandal attached to his name. Pippa is a girl, who because of actions of her father is not really accepted in society.
I definitely fell a little in love with Christopher and so will you – how you can not love a Duke who wants love? Pippa is the right girl for him, because she sees him as a person and not just a title – a Duke.
This book was a nice, enjoyable and captivating book by Stacy Reid. I recommend you read this book, you will not ever be disappointed in Stacy Reid skills as a writer.
Christopher Worth, the Duke of Carlyle, has a carefully cultivated reputation of ‘respectability’ but he possesses a dark, lustful side. Except someone was out to reveal him as a wicked rogue in the tongue in cheek articles written about him by Lady W a notorious gossip columnist. The hopes of marriage or the charming attractiveness of the Duke of Carlyle didn’t drive Pippa Cavanaugh to pursue the most elusive catch of the season; she was out to avenge her dear friend Miranda whose heart had been callously injured. Pippa desired to reveal to society that their perfect duke is a wicked, unprincipled seducer.
This is another captivating, engrossing read by the author whilst part of a series it’s easily read on its own. The pace flows effortlessly from start to finish, I was drawn in from the first page & grabbed until the last. The characters are well fleshed & are likeable. I loved both Kit & Pippa, they were so right for each other. He’s the prize of the season & is ruthlessly pursued for his title & riches. Pippa is hanging onto her reputation after her father absconded to America with his rich mistress leaving her & her mother with a struggling estate. I loved that she only saw Kit as Kit not a duke. His attraction to her was just as strong but misunderstandings, machinations of others all made the road to their HEA rocky but very entertaining.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Since Pippa Cavanaugh’s father left her mother, money has been tight. Pippa’s mother suggest that maybe Pippa should look for a husband, and Pippa is expecting a gentleman to declare himself, but her hopes are shattered. Even worse, the Duke of Saints, Christopher Worth, the duke of Carlyle, witnessed her moment of shame. After the debacle, Pippa suddenly realises that she has a talent that she could use to earn a living, and it works better than she ever expected: she has become the Ton’s favourite gossip columnist! Christopher and Pippa establish a tentative friendship until things take several unexpected turns.
MISADVENTURES WITH A DUKE has one of the most unusual meet-cutes I have read in a long time, and it was a very clever way for Pippa to get acquainted with Carlyle. He has a pristine reputation, he intends to keep it that way, and I felt this was so very refreshing. Christopher is not your typical dissipate duke who relishes his wayward life. He is truly honourable, generous, a progressive thinker, a gentleman, and he also wants to find the right woman, and marry for love! In spite of her family’s scandalous reputation, Pippa is determined to make the best of a bad situation, and I loved that she behaved rationally and used her abilities instead of trying to marry for money. Both Pippa and Christopher are atypical historical romance protagonists, and I do wish we would see more like them. I loved them both, they were brilliant individually and together.
Even though I was aware of Christopher’s proclivities – he’s into light BDSM – I was quite pleased that they are alluded to in a very subtle way and it did not turn the book into a kinky romp. Stacy Reid even respected her characters in that she remained as discreet as they are about their preferences. It did figure into the reason for establishing a relationship, but it was their conversations; their interactions that got them progressively closer. There were many bumps on the road – none of them contrived or forced – and theirs is such a lovely and most convincing romance!
Isn’t it comforting to see that it is possible to write a historical romance that feels entirely believable, with characters who act according to the era’s social dictates – in this case, the early Victorian era – and still have a sexy, exciting and very romantic story without over-the-top shenanigans or anachronistic behaviour! If this is the type of historical romance you crave for, Stacy Reid delivers with MISADVENTURES WITH THE DUKE!
